They are probably the best two teams on paper but it’s rarely the best two teams that get into the final of a tournament ,whatever the sport.
There’s also the unpredictable teams like Pakistan and West Indies who threaten to come into ‘form’ at any moment with big guns firing on all cylinders , and blow everyone away for a sequence of three or four games, often at the knockout stages.

To be honest I wasn't really impressed by the quality of cricket in this series from both teams. They are supposed to be the greatest most magnificent most utterly superb teams in history but the games themselves were underwhelming, not of the intensity I expect such magnificently great teams to be playing at and generally not of a high standard.
India at home will always be tough and unless something out of the ordinary happens somewhere they will be in the SF for sure.
England have some good players (e.g. Buttler) but I think this England team has probably gone over the peak of the hill. Wouldn't be surprised if they are not even in the SF.

Apart from Eng and India there are others who can take surprise spot in finals.
WI are always a threat so too are perennial favourites Australia.

Stock of either side hasn't fallen at all from my point of view, it's pretty much the same as it was prior to the series though I was disappointed with the overall quality from both teams over the five games.
Australia v India series - I gather you are talking about a test series. It was without a doubt a brilliant performance by India especially after the 36 all out to bounce back. India have a very good test side and deserve to be in the Test Championship final.
Of course this world cup will be played in Asian conditions which is different. My comment was more on the overall quality on show from England six months before the world cup. You can smash teams all you want but the world cup is a one off tournament and the form and momentum you take into it counts.
Let's not forget Pakistan were a very good ODI side in 2005 - beating India 4-2 in India (including 4 in a row) and then come 2007, lost to Ireland and went out in group stage of the world cup.
You seem to be a bit obsessed with turning this into an 'India' thing. It isn't - just not in the least bit impressed by the quality of cricket in the series. It was generally dull and I had to force myself to watch it.
As I said, unless we see something unusual India will be in the SF (once you get to the SF, an over here or there can swing a game so I won't make predictions beyond SF) but I really wouldn't be surprised to see England KO'd.

Exactly. But people here and in the PCB will tell you that fitness is not that important.
It's like they are regressing while the rest of the world is moving ahead. And its not like Pakistan's fielding wasn't absolutely horrendous to begin with. Where are they going to hide Sharjeel? He's not going to be particularly useful running between the wickets either.
All they have done with this selection is shown that a) they don't care about fitness anymore. Whatever standards Mickey brought in have been completely thrown out the window. Therefore they don't care about making Pakistan a professional and world-class team. And b) match-fixing is a-okay. As long as you serve the miniscule time handed to you, you will find your way back into the team.

In T20s the truncated game makes it much more open. Any of the top 9 teams can beat another on a given day. It can literally be a matter of 2 overs of mayhem or madness. See the WI who have power players galore and those bursts of runs can take them past teams who are much better overall.
If that was the case then India should have won every WC since 2011. How many did India win? None, apart from the solitary champions trophy in 2013.
The 2019 WC final too had umpiring blunder so did England play a dirt trick against NZ to win? You need to wake up from your delusion and accept the fact that India is now a team miles ahead of pak. I can understand its bitter to accept it but you need to.

I agree with the first 3 teams but i dont agree with new zealand i dont think they have the depth in batting or bowling to reach the semis.west indies proberly have a better chance than new zealand due to the power hitting ability than can proberly chase down anything on their day.

This is actually true, Aussie fortress Gabba was so much talked about when India was planning not to go there coz covid rules- posters were like India being cowards etc.. and lol after that a complete U turn..

NZ easily made the semis in the last 2 tournaments held in India. (2011WC and 2016 t20). They’ve also made back to back finals in the last two world cups and were unlucky not to win in 2019. This is their tournament, I expect them to make the top 4 and then anything can happen. NZ also have the WTC vs India in July so they will definitely get a good look at the Indian side before the T20 World Cup.

You are dreaming (and clearly lying) if you are claiming that ANYONE was claiming Australia was a great side before India tour. Maybe you were hyping them up but it certainly didn’t bear out with facts. (Btw not taking any credit away from an amazing Indian effort ravaged by injuries.) Also Head (with 2 centuries in almost 20 matches) most certainly wasn’t scoring centuries for fun. Unless you have a very weird definition of scoring 100d for fun.

The current Australian team are definitely not a "great" team by any stretch of the imagination, but they certainly have the ingredients for it. They have 3 world class batsmen in Smith, Warner and Labuschagne and 3 world class bowlers in Cummins, Hazlewood and Lyon. Starc is someone who's decent to very good against everyone except the Indians. With guys like Pucovski and Green coming in, they certainly have the ingredients to form a great team.
I would say the current Australian team is the best team they've had in a decade. Their only competition is the Ashes team of 2014 but even they couldn't win or draw the series in England, while the current one all but won the series in England but for one poor umpiring decision from Joel Wilson.

It should have happened in the WT20 2016, 2017 Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup but we will finally have it in the WT20 2021.
They have been the two best white ball teams over the last 6 years and deserve to play each in an ICC tournament final.
Whoever wins will be a deserved winner, but I am afraid England is all set to lose consecutive WT20 finals, that too in India.

We have been robbed of an India vs England final on three occasions now due to varying circumstances and factors.
Dhoni losing the toss at Wankhede in the 2016 semifinal, England getting a sluggish, slow pitch in the 2017 semifinal, India losing momentum against New Zealand in the 2019 semifinal because of rain.
However, it appears that things will fall in place this time and we will finally get the final that we have deserved for years.

Utter nonsense. The teams that make finals deserve it. Don't matter what you do outside of tournaments. Oh so England and India have been best white ball teams they automatically should be in finals. You know what why not cancel the whole tournament. Just have a final between India and England. Hand the trophy to one of them. Sometimes listen to yourself.

The thread is premature and anything can happen specially in t20s. India playing at home has the home advantage but but the problem for India in the last decade has been that they have chocked most of the time in big matches.

India will play NZ and SA in a T20 series before the WC in India. The logistics are being finalized. That will give some practise to all 3 teams before the WC. Yes, NZ is a good tournament team. That will make it even more compelling considering 6 teams are vying for 2 spots with Ind, Eng most likely taking the other two

If the match was completed on the scheduled day, India would have most probably won.
What hurt India the most was the abandonment of play on the first day which gave the New Zealand bowlers the opportunity to utilize the early morning moisture and swing the ball.
Without the rain, the New Zealand bowlers would be bowling in the late afternoon with the ball not doing much, and that would have made India heavy favorites.
I think without the rain interruption, the semifinal would have been a very similar match to the Pakistan vs New Zealand group game with Pakistan chasing a 230 odd total with 6 wickets in hand. It was also a day game and a slow pitch.
New Zealand definitely got a lucky break because of rain.

India and England are the best teams and that is why they are always in the finals and semifinals. It is not a coincidence or luck; it is an illustration of their quality.
However, they are yet to meet in the final and I hope it happens this time because we deserve to see an ICC tournament final between the two best white ball teams of this era.

It was overcast and the bowling conditions were good throughout the two days.
Also India’s collapse was as much of a choke as anything else tbh.
Indian team in the current era has a history of batting collapses on crunch matches going back almost a decade now.
Some collapses in major games for India in recent ICC ODI tournaments:
CT 2013 Final: 66/5 and then Kohli saved day
WC 2015 Semi: 76/1 to 4/108 which effectively killed the game
CT 2017 Final: 72/6
WC 2019 Semi: 24/4
It is undeniable that this Indian batting team has the tendency to choke and collapse in a heap in big matches and when it happens for four consecutive tournaments it’s not a case of ‘lucky break for the opposition.’ Unless the lucky break is facing an Indian team which almost invariably will have a batting collapse in a crunch ODI knockout game.

They have collapsed frequently in big games but on a slow pitch with no proper spinner in the opposition ranks, I believe India would have prevailed in the later afternoon conditions.
On the flip side I also think New Zealand would have won had they bowled first because their bowlers would have induced a similar collapse in the early morning conditions on the first day.
Their bowlers are among the very best when it comes to exploiting conditions. New Zealand is a very tough side to beat in day matches when they are bowling first, especially in conditions where the ball swings.

In both the 2015 WC semifinal and CT final, they were chasing 330 odd in a knockout game. They had more probability of losing those games than winning it at the start of their batting innings. It's a bit like saying 2003 WC final was a choke by the Indian batting. CT 2013 final was batting first.
Only the WC 2019 semifinal can be classified as a choke job as they were expected to win at the start of their batting innings unlike the 2015 semi or CT final in 2017.

2003 WC final was not a choke. The chase was on for a good while despite the mammoth mammoth score.
330 odd in 2015 and 2017 was very different from 360 in 2003. I’d say 2015, Australia were big favorites at start of Indian innings but can’t say same about 2017 tbh

India were chasing nearly 340 in an ICC tournament final. They had probably 10-15% chance at the start of Indian innings. The match was half won when Pakistan finished their batting and it needed someone from the Indian team to play out of his skin and some handy contributions from others to win the match. Pakistan were massive favourites at half time no matter how you look at it.
There is a reason why a total of 330-odd has never been chased in a ODI tourney finals, ever! Whatever the opposition is, almost every single time a chasing team will lose chasing such humongous targets. Such is the pressure of finals. No wonder we still lay into Kohli for electing to field first in CT '17 finals!

Chase was on? lol, just because scored run-a-ball 82! We were in the game only because of DL par score! Even if Tendulkar scored a blazing 50, we won't have scored 360 that day due to Australia being perhaps best ever ODI XI that played in WCs and the match being a WC final!
Nathan Lyon fumbling an easy run out chance didn't help the Aussies either. Or burning the last review for an LBW call when the ball pitches several inches outside legstump.

Yeah Australia had several chances to put the game to bed but they messed it up every time. Harris dropped a chance at the boundary as well. It was almost as if it was written in the stars for Stokes and England.

Left-arm fast bowler Topley, who has played 13 ODIs and six T20Is, was named as a replacement after Mills was ruled out due to a thigh injury. Topley was a reserve as per the allowance for teams to travel with extra players in view of COVID-19 quarantine requirements.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad.
