Asad Shafiq has 10 test 100s as follows:

  1. 104 in 2011 test series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh
  2. 100* in 2012 test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka
  3. 111 in 2013 test series against South Africa in South Africa
  4. 130 in 2013 test series against South Africa in UAE
  5. 137 in 2014 test series against New Zealand in UAE
  6. 107 in 2015 test series against Bangladesh in Bangladesh
  7. 131 in 2015 test series against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka
  8. 107 in 2015 test series against England in UAE
  9. 109 in 2016 test series against England in England
  10. 137 in 2016 test series against Australia in Australia

Problem is he has never scored more than 1 100 in a test series. And this is a big negative point against him that he is not consistent and does not work hard in a test series after scoring a 100. Will he finally try to score another 100 in a test series this time? Does he has the work ethics for this task?

The management team needs to talk to him , and tell him to increase his vision.
Not get satisfied with 42 - 44 average , try and push towards 47 - 48.

Tell him he can get more hundreds , try and aim for 25 test hundreds, bring more hunger into himself.

the lack of a good alternative in the squad also make Asad Shafiq feel too easy about his place in the team. he knows Rizwan and Nawaz are easily way inferior batsman than him. this inning comes after his position in the team was in real danger and it was certain that if he fails in 2nd inning then he will be dropped in next test and bring Sharjeel in the team as an opener and move Azhar to #3 and move Babar to #6.

Asad bats better when he is in flow. Should always stay positive and look to score runs

This time he has more time than ever. He scored 100 in the first test and have 4 innings still remaining. hopeful that he can break his own record.

In the current squad, how many pakistani cricketer have 10 100s beside asad shafiq?

I won't blame Shafiq if he only manages one or two fifties in the rest of the 4 innings. The other batsmen have to step up as well.

YK, Misbah, Sarfaraz and Azhar are all due a big innings. Sami and Babar need to start contributing as well, although they are new and have more leeway.

Yes, agree both him and yk for a change have scored in the first test rather than the last so..

Should do it if he performs as per potential..

Unfortunately, he doesn't perform to that level.

Its important Shafiq and Azhar average 40+ outside Asia and 45+ overall or else the batting looks bleak post the retirement of the 40 year old duo..

I hope so but tbh any time your no. 6 is scoring big, it usually means the rest of the batting has failed. Especially someone like Asad, he's not the kind of guy that can score a quickfire 100 coming in at 350/4, more kind of the guy who scores a fighting 50/100 coming in at 100/4 or something like that.

Failed in 1st inning of 2nd test to score another 100 on this test series. This was a great chance to finally have more than 1 100 in a test series

this must be some new metric of greatness that has not caught on, whereby we find a way to call the inning a failure.

How biased can one be lol

Failed in scoring another 100 if you guys read the OP. So all of Asad's remaining innings in this test series will be considered failure if he score from 0 to 99 according to the purpose of this thread. Hope you guys now understand this thread.

Should come above MISBAH in the 2nd innings as we can clearly see MISBAH is struggling a lot more than YOUNIS so far in this series...

Failed in 2nd inning of 2nd test to score another 100 on this test series. Now he only has one more test to prove that he can score good in more than 1 inning of a test series

Asad Shafiq's runs barely come in winning causes.

That's the problem with him. Plus he bats down low.

When we really need him to do something special, he doesn't.

This is why it is difficult to have faith in him and didn't find myself jumping up and down after his match-losing epic at the Gabba.

You just know that Shafiq will fail 6/10 times, and only 1/10 time will his runs have any sort of influence and impact on the outcome of the game.

Good thread.

He looks comfortable in all conditions and yet never scores consistently. You would expect batsmen to hit their peak at the stage of career where he currently is. Unfortunately, he has been unable to take his career into next phase. One of those players about whom you can say have played one test many times rather than playing many tests.

A chicken-hearted batsman. Azhar is leagues above now.

not only 1 ton in a series... he has not turned even one 100 into a 150 so far, he is yet to cross 140...

tbf thats impossible from number 6

but yes hes very inconsistent and certainly not reliable

Azhar has surged far ahead eventhough in their early away tours Shafiq seemed to give more condifence

few times on his century he had enough time and tail to make it big but gives it away early in the next day morning just like MISBAH.....MISBAH and ASAD u can call them afternoon+evening batsmen... many times I have seen these two go quickly the next day morning very cheaply...
