Can Babar Azam join the group of Fab 4 and make it a Fab 5?

Its time to add Babar in Fab 5?

Along with Kohli, Smith, Williamson, and Root.

I feel Babar looks promising in all formats.

Lets discuss on this.........:113:

he couldn't even bat to save his life in the 3rd T20 against SRL and we're talking about best batsman?

To add to the above he needs to stop being timid and impose himself more out in the middle. Could also do with some improvement against spin.

Too early.

He's a level below the other 4 as yet, but I'm sure he can join that elite group in future.

He maybe the best excluding the Fab 4 currently. But right now he needs to perform in longest format.

As many already said, it's test cricket where not only he has to cement his place as Pakistan's best test batsmen but also take his average over or around 50 to be classified as fab five.

He is 25 and others are 29-31, so he doesn't belong to that era.

Quinton de Kock is closest but given he averages a very poor 29 in World Cups, he is behind that league of "Fab four".

In LOIs, it is easily Fab 5 rather Babar might be better than one or two in Fab 4 but in tests not at the moment.

In LOIs it's a very different group. Someone like Rohit is better than Smith if you only consider ODIs and T20s.

There are only terrific 3. Root does not belong there. He is a level below them and half a level above Babar.

Joe root is not fabulous though. He’s a very average player honestly failed miserably in the tests against Australia. Also in Odis he’s somewhat ok but he can’t even play t20s so that automatically makes him a very limited player. A fabulous player would be someone very good in all formats which for now it’s only kohli and Williamson. Babar still has a long way to go

no. Babar is a good batsman but he isnt as good as any of top 4. In test cricket he hasnt achieved anything yet.

His FC record suggests that he is not a player of biggest format of the game. 3 hundreds in 90 innings.

I think he is definitely among Fab 5 when it comes to ODI. However, he still has a lot more to do in Test format.

Smith
Kohli
Kane
Pujara (borderline)

Are the fab 4 now. Root is out of it. Bobby ,despite the obvious talent, still only averages 35 with the bat. Under Misbah, he may never make it.

In Southern Afrikaan we all saw Babar The Bobby Azam unbobbying himself. If that is sign of things to come you can forget the freaking the Fab 4 you are possibly looking at the Fabulous Bobby that's how good he is.

Don't you ever dare

If you know what it takes

Always believe

Nope. Pujara is way ahead of Babar in Tests, maybe on par with Root. Will judge Babar only after playing Australia in Australia. But he is the best of the emerging lot.

LOI Big 4 is Kohli, Sharma, Taylor & Williamson. Babar still needs to find their consistency, but he is almost there

First of all, there is no fav 4. Smith >>>> Kohli >>>>> rest. There's no competition.

Secondly, Babar hasn't done anything in tests yet, and his T20I stats are as meaningless as it gets (the only T20I stats worth anything are T20 WC)

As for ODIs, Rohit >>> Babar and Taylor is as good.

So no, Babar hasn't joined anything.

I think Babar has improved in test cricket. Ever since the england tour last year, without checking I'm sure he averages 50 + since (including that tour) game where he made 70*

Needs to score in the Aus tests at 60 avg, and that should seal it

Babar time will come, but not now, once he performs in Australia

Kohli
Smith
Williamson
Root
Quinton de Kock

That's fab five considering all-formats, ofcourse tests being valued more. Bobby is the 6th name in it but will come in reckoning once he averages close to 45.

Ross Taylor or Rohit Sharma these are old enough and don't belong to this chain. Sharma is a non-established test batter.

babar is an average test player. Great odi player. one of the best odi batsmen in current era. top3.

Across 3 formats, its Kohli>>Smith and not the other way around.

Babar Azam scored 450+ runs in the 2019 WC. A feat Kohli hasn’t achieved despite playing 3 World Cups.

Babar succeeds in Australia - then we can say he is in the fab 5.

Currently he isn’t but one series against Australia in Australia can change this status.

What?

There are better ODI players like Rohit ahead of him.

Who said Rohit isn't in the fab 5 for LOI. The fab 4/5 is different in LOI than the overall fab4.

In only LOIs it is (just my opinion):
1. Kohli
2. Rohit
3. Babar
4. Warner
5. Root/De Kock/Taylor

Although it is fact that Rohit and Warner aren't great when the ball starts moving, the thing is that the ball rarely even moves these days. So most places they go they will have ideal conditions. Warner is below Babar as he does average about 6 less than Babar, and he also hasn't done well in Asia in ODIs.

Second only to Kohli overall. But because tests do hold the most importance, he still is not in the fab 4/5.
I reckon when he does break into that group it will be Root that he will replace. Root isn't even in the same league as the other 3 anymore.

Not yet. Once he brings his test average to 45+, he can be considered part of the Fab 5.

If we're just talking about LOIs, he's easily #3, behind Kohli and Sharma.

There is no fab 4. Smith is far ahead of the rest. Babar needs to overtake Root, Pujara etc in tests first and then can aspire to be in Kane - Kohli company. Forget about Smith, he cannot be chased.

He has ways to go but if perform in Australia he is on his way!

Has too average 50 and get atleast 1
100 in Australia

Babar Azam is among select few to average 50+ in both tests and ODI's since 2018. Others being Kohli , Sharma and Williamson.

His biggest issue in tests is lack of conversions of 50's into 100.

Babar Azam is catching up Fab 4, ATM. I reckon he is above Joe root and may be on par with Williamson. But he is surely behind Kohli and Smith. Unless he prrove himself in world test championship

Standards of Fab players must be at an all time low when average players with one Test Ton and an average of 35 get included in it.

Lol Rohit Sharma has more Test Tons and a better Test Average than this Babar.

Not until he does the required job in the premier format i.e Tests.

Babar is talented and hard working. But he’s not at the level of these other players because although consistent, he doesn’t carry his team in tight situations.

Did you watch his century vs New Zealand in the world cup? You can't play a knock like that without being able to handle pressure, he almost single-handedly guided that chase on a very difficult surface.

The Australian test series will determine where he ranks in comparison to the fab 4

Not even close, the next four to five years will determine where he sits with players like Kholi, Williamson and Smith.

At the moment people are confusing form with consistency.

He's a fine player and one of the best in the world but he needs to play iconic BIG knocks to be counter even close to Kohli, Smith, Warner, Root and even Sharma.

Sharma is arguably the 2nd best batsman in the world right now after Goat Smith

The fact that every other batsman is useless apart from Haris and Imam to some extent doesn’t really help.

Totally agreed.

Babar needs to do more. Just hope these comparisons arent messing with his head.

Of them all, I'd say Williamson's style matches Babar the most. He should be able to get to Kane's level and game.

Checked his test stats and it's shocking for someone of Babar's obvious quality. Not too bothered about his average, but it's the lack of conversion of those 11 fifties. The great players are brilliant with turning starts into game-changing knocks, that eventually define them as great players.

There never was a Fab 4.

It’s only 18 months since AB De Villiers retired, and he was better than all the others - a Fab One.

He has scored only one Test hundred.
With the hype around you would think he had at least 20, you should have been here during Pak tour of SA, ballads were written chronicling his heroics after he hit a few good looking fours of Steyn.

I have nothing against him, I admire his talent and stroke making. He is an excellent ODI bat, definitely among top 5. A very reliable t20 bat but hasn't done anything in tests to be rated so high.

De Villiers may have been the joint best ODI players out of the 5, but he was at best the 3rd best test player of them all and 3rd best T20I player.

I watched Kohli, Smith and De Villiers play Tests in South Africa at the start of 2018.

And I have to say, De Villiers was on a completely different planet to Kohli and Smith. Even against obviously doctored balls at Durban and PE.

Didn’t Kohli make more runs at a higher average against a far far better attack than ABD in the same series? It’s 3am here so not in the mood to check myself lol

One thing going for Babar is he's a clutch player.

Performs under pressure. Did better than all the other Fab 4/5s at the freaking World Cup!

That has cemented his spot in the Fab 4 already, especially in ODIs. Joe Root is now displaced from the ODIs, he's not in the Fab 4 anymore.

Kohli too has been struggling a lot to perform at the big stage, when it matters. Spectacular failures so far in World Cups.

If we only consider this factor then Babar is above the rest. But this is not the only factor, though it does matter.

I'm not counting Tests, where Babar has to work a bit more. He's too new.

Fab 4 was based only on tests otherwise the likes of Rohit would be there as well.

One thing going for Babar is he's a clutch player.

Yeah, Smith and Kane always go missing in WCs. Nowhere near Babar

He is better than Smith in Odi
Better than Kane in t20is
Has performed better than Root in last 2 years and better than Kohli in World Cup

That makes him better than the rest

Warner is above Babbar in any format. Avg alone isnt the thing. Warner has better SR and has done it for a longer period.. Then there is Kane Willamson.

I may be wrong, but Babbar has not dominated a series yet. His runs are more like Amla's, very good avg but most will take a Rohit or Warner or Taylor over a Amla.

Having said that, Babbar is young, and has time to rectify these issues.

Difference between Babar and Kohli is not big in wc around 30 runs only,I dont know why people thinking Babar had a great wc than others

B. Azam -474 runs
V.Kohli - 443 runs
K. Williamson 578 runs
J. Root 556 runs

Kohli did not get to bat for long during the world cup. Rohit was dominating, so he was happy to play the second fiddle and sometimes even third when Dhawan/Rahul were going well.

Exactly he played anchor role when openers batted most of the overs.
He didnt get enough time/overs to convert 50's into 100's in wc in most of the matches
