Haha you know I'm not that daft.
would still go with Zulfi, he has shown he belongs to test cricket... i would have ashghar before nawaz for tests as well
Yasir
Zulfi
Asghar
Nawaz
Gohar
Imad.
this would be my picking order for tests for the min
Nawaz should be preferred.
Is Nawaz a good enough Test match batsman ? He's a good spinner in UAE conditions but I wouldn't want him to bat higher than 8.
Say he plays at 6 or 7 - with his FC avg of 33 and fairly limited array of shots - would you trust him to come in at 100-4 or 150-5 ?
Both Nawaz and Imad can play in test team:
1. Azhar
2. Sami
3. Asad
4. Younis
5. Misbah
6. Sarfraz
7. Nawaz
8. Imad
9. Yasir
10. Aamir
11. Sohail
Incredible batting depth
2 pacers + 3 spinners
The only negative is that you miss out the chance to groom Babar Azam and/or a fast bowling all-rounder which will be needed in overseas tours.
This works better for subcontinent than what OP is suggesting. Maybe Zafar for nawaz would make bowling a bit stronger and batting slightly weaker but to be honest yasir and amir can go decent as batters in uae
Nawaz's batting isn't good enough to bat at number 7. Pakistan needs at least 1 all rounder to reinforce the lack of bowlers currently in the side.
Imad is the solution because he bats well and would be a handy 5th bowler option on slow/flat wickets to keep run rate down and hence maintain pressure. Hafeez did a similar job superbly. Imad Wasim is about the same as Hafeez as bowler but a far superior batsman.
He may not be technically special with the bat or ball but test matches is more about character, absorbing pressure and harnessing an intelligent cricketing brain.
Imad is a very intelligent cricketer, fast learner, doesn't crumble under pressure (seems to thrive in fact) as we saw in the recent ODI series in England... plus he is captaincy material...

You do not really need batting of Lara's calibre at #7. Nawaz will be fine at #7.
Pakistan has a weak tail so that's naive statement to make tbh. In the modern game need batsman 1-7 to average 40+ with a strong tail.
Nawaz averages 33 in FC cricket, so his batting abilities are unproven whereas Imad averages 42 and is among the top 5-10% in FC amongst the top batters...
Imad has actually started to spin the ball when he bowls his slower variation.
On helpful pitches he will spin it a bit.
I would def add him to the Test squad. Maybe give him a game in the last test.
If you don't try you will never know.
Its Imad v Asghar.
Imad deserves a test call up.
That's why if any of Imad or Nawaz play, Pakistan has to play another all-rounder at #8 who should be a fast bowler too.
However, against WI, you really do not need batting depth.
Currently not at all.
With his action it would be a miracle if he turns the ball away from RHB on any surface. He is a limited overs bowler. He doesn't even vary his pace like Vettori and the trajectories of his all deliveries are typical of a limited overs spinner (darter)

But TSPK, I think he is good enough for 10 overs a day. His batting stats are alright too.
Not true at all. Against both England and West Indies he was flighting the ball and turning it away from the right hander. In LO he is forced to restrict batsmen by darting it in.
He cannot turn the ball with such a action which doesn't have ingredients to turn the ball. At max his left arm spin can just straighten that's it. It's his armer which swings in abit.
Imad has great attitude, great at tactics, swagger etc but he isn't cut for Test Cricket as an Allrounder. Well as a Test Batsman and partime spinner he could be tried but in that role we have better available options.
Wrt possible Test Allrounders read my post in another thread.
He only turned the ball in the 3rd ODI due to the pitch- nothing on his part. Not true at all. Against both England and West Indies he was flighting the ball and turning it away from the right hander. In LO he is forced to restrict batsmen by darting it in.
I think he should at least deserve a look. He's done very well in ODI/T20 and his first class stats are actually pretty solid. If Asad Shafiq moves to #3 and Sarfraz moves up a spot, we can slot Wasim in at 7 and toss him for 10 or so overs. It would relieve some pressure off Yasir Shah as well.
