At the moment Shaheen is obviously quite inexperienced and you can tell he is not the finished international standard product yet.

However can he be ready to open the bowling with Amir by 2019 WC?

He needs muscle on his weak body and thereafter for better line/length and variations keep bowling especially 4 day cricket. 50/50 i think for him to be ready for world cup

Don't think they will play him regularly by that point. We have the fast bowling department ticked off at the moment:
Hasan Ali
Faheem Ashraf
Usman Shinwari
Mohammed Amir
Rumman Raees
Junaid Khan
Wahab Riaz

It will probably take Shaheen a few years to make the first choice team regularly due to the players we already have.

UKS is injury-prone and inconsistent when it is not swinging.
Faheem is a support bowler.
Raees has slowed down and is only good for T20's.
JK is on his last legs.
Wahab Riaz should never, EVER, done the Pakistani kit in ODI's.

I'd have Shaheen in the squad for the World Cup, in case some players get injured. However, don't think he makes the first choice team. You mentioned a fair bit of weaknesses for each player, but also remember about Shaheen how he's very new to the scene, just made his T20 debut for Pakistan. I couldn't see him getting a game as early and as big a stage as the WC in 2019.

Agreed.

Would like him to get a game against India.

They struggle against pace and off-spinners with a doosra. No need to play Malik and Shadab in the same team against them.

Junaid is our weak link and I dont see how shaheen can do worse. Junaid has nothing special meanwhile Shaheen has height

Seems like it'll take another bashing like the one wahab got vs India for everyone to realize.

He is not really needed at the moment for our ODI side. Amir,Hassan,Junaid,Raees, Shenwari, Faheem and Talat have our pace attack covered.

I do want him for the Test side in SA.

You just have an irrational dislike towards Junaid. Guys like you were saying the same things before the CT about how Junaid would get the phainty of his life but he ended up as the 3rd highest wicket taker of the tournament.

he is raw and young.. we should n't fast track him into the side.. he should play fc and LA for a year or two then we should judge him how far he can go.. otherwise a bad game can damage his confidence..

You realize we played more games than most teams tied with India in the CT right?

I saw him bowl and he was doing nothing special, he remained economical because of Imad, Amir's tight bowling up front and then Hasan's havoc.

Doesn’t make any sense at all.. if the other guys were being economical then it made Junaid more likely to get smashed.

Don't see why not - even consistency at his current ability level could warrant a place in the squad. Already touches 140, he'll naturally get stronger given his age.

Just let him carry on playing - across formats - and see where it takes him by early next year. Brilliant to have his height..

Has to be - what are the options? 5'7" Fahim? 5'8" Hasan? 5'9" Shinwari? 5'10" Raees? 5'11" Amir? International teams have players outside PSL in their top 3/4 - batsmen will start taking guard a meter in front of popping crease against that attack - 50% swing gone.

There are options indeed - 6'5" Tanvir, 6'4" Sohail, 6'3" Wahab, 7'1" Irfan, 6'2" Rahat ...... unfortunately everyone is in their mid to late 30s by next year, having born at least 4 to 7 years old already in mom's womb - sad but bitter truth for a WC where teams will be playing confirmed 9 games, may be in 29 days max before the all important KOs - NOT SUGGESTED. Trust me, not suggested - ICC is getting smarter - their medical staff will cross examine before any "injury" replacement.

15 months is more than enough time - it took Hasan less than that to reach top rank, BECAUSE whatever it's hidden in his certificate, guy was still called at a time when learning curve was stiff and body was ready to take the work load. So was Amir - bowled in 10 Tests in NZ, AUS & ENG in 8 months and bowled like a champion for 40+ overs/Test - because he was 18/19 - even if he was born as 10 years old for the sake of saying, still in his mid 20s......

ODI's are different ball game than Test - it doesn't take fast bowlers that much maturity to deliver in ODI. Imran won a WC (interestingly of same format) after losing his most lethal pacer 3 weeks before, himself struggling with shoulders - simple reason was that he had 24 years old Wasim & 18 years old Aquib who ran, and ran hopelessly for him (Wasim bowled over 50 wides & NOs, but, boy his legal ones were as venomous as anything I have seen to our Cobra dance) and 19 years old Mushi who bowled like a 25 years old in the middle overs. In current context, Imran probably would have called back Sarfraz Newaz, when Waquar got injured, because of lack of talunt!!!!!!!

I haven't played much cricket and I know very little, but I do know the history of the game, how the game is developed in each country - IND, PAK, AUS, WI, ENG ...... particularly PAK cricket, how it functions at it's highest potential. If I were in charge, I would have dropped both Hasan & Amir till the AUS ODI tours and played every ODI & T20 with Afridi, Fahim, Amad and may be Arshad and another kid (even Umaid, guy will be 35 and probably born like Imran - grew 2 inches between official 18 to 21) - if required, make ZIM tour 7 game ODI series and call IRL/AFG in UAE/PAK for 10 games triangular - even in AUS/NZ series - Amir/Hasan plays alternately - only best possible XI (pacers' combination) plays in those last 10 ODIs in SAF & ENG - that's a proper WC preparation. These WIN/BD/ZIM/AUS T20s are jokes - more damaging than preparing for WC.

Very raw at the moment.

Our current pace unit is

Amir
Junaid
Raees
Shinwari

Raees is not exactly a fast bowler, he is a fast spinner, who does not turn, rather cuts the ball. He is more like Imran Khan junior, the domestic T20 "specialist" until recently and was a failure in PSL and international level. Raees could be good option for PSL but not beyond that.

He might be but I doubt it. He should be in the squad regardless.

The biggest issue which needs to be sorted out is his wrist position. His wrist looks too loose and the ball ends up coming out wobbly and lacks the zip.

His action can use some adjustments as well.

Junaid could get 10 for next too nothing against india and PPers would still claim the pitch assisted Junaid, or the Sandpaper attached to Sarfrazs gloves were the reason he bowled so well. Give the guy a break, wahab isn't finished either lets support our boys rather than bash them at every opportunity.

For now, let's keep him to T20Is, I don't think there's place for him in the ODI squad yet so I highly doubt he will be ready for the World Cup.

Plenty of opportunities for him to get experience:

Couple of England tour games
Ireland test
Scotland T20s
Zimbabwe tour
Maybe an Asia Cup game against Afghanistan?
Next year's PSL
+ If those T20s vs West Indies in USA take place

Yeah hopefully. Really don't want to see any of junaid khan rumman raees and usman shinwari anywhere near the squad.

Pakistan's 3 front line pacers should be:

1) Mohammad Amir
2) Hasan Ali
3) Usman Khan

Faheem Ashraf as the 4th seamer.

I think he needs to put in a great effort in his training till 2019. If coaches think he can handle the pressure then he should be put in.

No place for ethnicity/genetic discussion etc here.

If Shaheen take be the third highest wicket taker like Junaid was in CT 17 than why not.

I would say he is the integral part of Pakistan XI limited overs. We should develop him although he has very few flaws.
