Can Shan Masood be Pakistan's Mike Brearley like captain?

Shan could be a very good captain for Pakistan, as he remains calm under pressure and never indulges in any dosti yar stuff.

Listened to his interview. He shared his family info. Just learnt they had to move to Pakistan because he has a special needs sister. Wish him all the best in his role. Seems like a very decent guy.

His sister passed away last year.

We all know how this will end. He would resign or be sacked in 6-8 months max. Bad tour to Australia whether in terms of his own runs or a 0-3 defeat and knives will be out. If he somehow survives that then others will gang up against him esp. if he's not the mingling type. It's just not sustainable in Pakistan ecosystem to have a batsman as a captain with batting average of 30.

Poor post. He's captain of Yorkshire, he's shown improvement v SL and is willing to play attacking cricket. Don't follow the crowd learn to analyse and study.
Have you seen his international stats also he is playing in devision 2.

Don't know if cricket in 2024 can afford a specialist captain especially in a flawed team like Pak.

He does not merits a place with a meagre average of 28, another product of nepotism and the guy is quite overconfident he depicts himself as Pakistan' Strauss

We keep hearing that Masood is a gym rat, but all I see is a malnourished, weak man with zero power game. What does he do in the gym?

Specialists captain cannot work in modern cricket especially in a team like Pakistan where you have nowhere to hide once the team is on a losing run. It is your individual performances that shield you.

The only reason Babar has not been sacked is because he is Pakistan’s best batsman. The only reason Misbah was not sacked as ODI captain was because he was Pakistan’s most consistent batsman at the time.

Sarfaraz lost his captaincy in 2019 not because the team was not performing but because he had completely lost the plot as a batsman.

If he didn’t & was performing like he did in the recently concluded NZ series, he would probably still be captain.
Can't agree more with this post. Shan Masood is the embodiment of nepotism, the poster child of Pakistan's parchi culture. He made his Debut 11 years ago with Khurram Manzoor. The two not only share their debut but also their batting average Khurram and Shan both have a Test Average of 28, however Khurram's career has long ended (why non-performance), What keeps Shan Masood in the side? Hint : it is not Mickey Arthur.
Every time Shan steps out on the field it is injustice to some deserving player. Ahmed Shahzad has an Average of 40 in Tests, He happens to be 2 years youngers also but he last played a test 7 years ago. Then there are others sitting on the bench like Kamran Ghulam, Muhammad Hurrira etc. Kamran is almost 30 if he doesn't start now, it will be too late for him in a few years.

Shan might do some minnow bashing on a placid pitch and claim that he has turned the corner but he will go down in history as Captain Parchi. This is not about just one individual, the culture of Nepotism and bribery goes deep and it is far worse at the domestic level, where there is less scrutiny. Where people ask for huge bribes for a spot in a first class match.
