Can Umar Amin be groomed as a future captain for Pakistan?

Finally we are thinking of grooming someone other then :hafeez .... Although he needs to cement his place i hope that he can show good captaincy so that we can have some hope.
 
Shouldn't groom a guy for captaincy and make him A team captain when he hasn't even secured his place in any format. His averages across the board and performance so far has been poor.

Azhar Ali would have been the more logical choice to groom.
 
Azhar is a good choice and he has captained in the domestic but couple of choices wont hurt. What we need to do is groom them by giving them captaincy in the domestic games.
 
People thinking of grooming Azhar Ali as the captain? I don’t understand Where this survival mentality has come from in these people ? Pakistan is slowing becoming a DUD – good for nothing team recently. Azhar Ali CAN NOT SCORE freely due to lack of skills/potential / talent , he can ONLY block well but he will never be able to take the game away even he plays 3- 4 session let alone playing one or two.
So why you need a captain who is as DUD /Defensive mentality as Misbah ?

Umar technically the best of lot at the moment ,i understand he hasn’t scored much but technically he looks very promising and in control when playing

I VOTE to groom him to be the next captain

He looks Calm and seems to know what he is doing on the ground

The problem with Pakistan is that young players are not encouraged to be captain of domestic sides. They shd take a leaf out of India book and make promising talented youngsters captains of domestic teams eg

Sohaib Maqsood : Multan
Umar Amin : Pindi
Umar Akmal : Lahore
Asad Shafiq : Karachi
Harris Sohail : Sialkot etc

Then he should go to Diana King instead.
 
It is good to see Umer Amin being named captain for the practice game but this can prove to be the end of his career. If he is seen as a possible future caption then Hafeez will be threatened by him. As long as Hafeez is captain of the T-20 side Umer Amin might not get proper chances and then get dropped from the playing 11. Similar thing happened with Azhar Mahmood and his career got destroyed due to politics from senior players.

Amin has proved that he is not a selfish and a thinking captain.
Good move by promoting Shafiq.

Should be appointed as the VC and then the Captain.
 
Yep, it looks so.

As he has already established himself as a legendry batsman in Test cricket.

Sooner we make him captain better it is.
 
The future vice captain, captain , coach and future chairman runs himself out in the 3 day match at Lahore.

These are his scores since his comeback to the National One Day side 3,16,27*,1,59,33.

And this man gets into the 12th man squad ahead all of his competitors.

And now gets cleaned bowled on a track which is being considered very favourable for batting.

He might be good but I think he is getting the "golden boy treatment" for no reason.

I've seen each of those innings and there was nothing to get excited about.
Pakistan has a rich history of promoting young talent - but in the current environment, if you make a guy who has a barely secure place in any format of the game a "potential future captain"....you might as well put a bullseye on his back - he will get no help from the seniors and the guys that are ahead of him in the pecking order.
If he were super-talented maybe, but honestly, on display so far is a fair bit of mediocrity.

The guy who should be getting the "golden boy treatment" isn't even good enough to make the 'A' team :))
 
Let the lad atleast play a few tests/ODIs before lambasting wether hes good enough or not. Some people on this thread seem to be wanting the lad to fall flat on his face.

I don't want him to fail but from what I've seen so far from him I don't think he warrants a spot ahead of other players (including Shafiq atm).

There are more promising players who are more deserving of such opportunities than Amin.

he has played a few tests in England already and he was woeful there as well.

Almost every batsmen was woeful in that series in the UK. It was a baptism of fire for all new batsmen. Im willing to give the lad a few more games before passing judgement.
 
bowled Philander. People here should rememebr that phrase. two of shafiq and amin were removed by philander. Ominous if you ask me.
 
Conflict of interest to make Umar Amin captain?

Isn't there an obvious conflict of interest on the part of Umar Amin when he was made captain of Pakistan A?

He might or might not have shown bias during the game, but the fact that this line up has players like Ahmed Shehzad, Asad Shafiq, Shan Masood, Faisal Iqbal & Sohaib Maqsood, who are all in contention for the 15-man squad at the moment could constrain his decisions to ensure that they do not get enough chance to bat during the game?

Now, knowing that we already have the bowling line up in place for the test match, we only had the remaining 3 spots ready to be filled by batsman. Sohaib Maqsood, from the scorecard atleast, seemed like was going good till Umar declared.

That middle order spot of Asad Shafiq is up for brags, and PCB allows Umar Amin to be the captain of Pakistan A (which is filled with upcoming batsman), who himself is in contention for that position.

What are your opinions guys? , this situation is quite similar to Sohail Tanvir & Hammad Azams in Rawalpindi Rams.
 
Everyone got a bat in the game and was bound to get 1 inns atleast to stake a claim for selection so there never was going to be a conflict of interest.
 
It was decided before the match that 100 overs would be the limit per innings

Umar is lucky to be in a team who doesnt know how to bat other than younus and misbah...he first needs to be a regular in team before dreaming of captaincy
 
Sohaib maqsood to me looks like a better choice than umar amin,asad shafique and faisal iqbal given his ability to execute big shots and bowl offspin plus his technique isnt worse than all three named...
 
Umar amin, player without confidence. Played so many games.
Given so many chances, i havent seen a innings that i can say this guy is superb.
All losers. Including asad.
 
Ok, captaincy looks a dream gone sour at this stage.

But windows of opportunity are still open for him in coaching and other administrative set ups.
 
Well yes he has in him.. Some constant solid performances can make him a strong contender... Other than him there is Fawad Alam, Umar Akmal, Hammad Azam, Shan Masood, Azeem Ghumman etc.. But first they shud show some solid performances at the international level and also be first given a go as captains in the domestic scene...
 
He must be given time, and you do not need to be great with the bat in order to be a good captain.

He just needs to be good enough to be in the team, i agree he has been a disappointment with the bat and he should be rested for the rest of the series, but he should be in the squad and should be given more chances to establish himself.
 
Maqsood would be selected for next match and he too would get out giving a classy edge behind,,,

And next day all ppers including me gonna rip apart his heart and drink his blood like bloody vampires....
 
dats why i say just please dont over-hype until the lad shows character on the field,,,,,,,, and i mean consistent character not just based on 1 or 2 fabulous innings!!!!
 
what has happened to our selection system?

surely you at elast select someone who has hit runs in domestic? and has a healthy average? even if you simply go by stats? why Amin? why?

Amin was the top scorer in our FC Domestic season averaging above 40 and averaged over 50 in LA cricket this season.

Let him first cement his place in even 1 format. With an average of 38 in first class, and 32 in List-A cricket, I dont think he will be able to last long in the team as a batsman.

I hope he proves me wrong.
 
A captain has to lead from the front. He can't score runs to save his life at this stage.

4 years after he is struggling to find his place in the squad...
 
He played well against World XI and Sri Lanka in the home T20s however he was not persisted with
 
Someone who I work with knew him and played cricket with him back in Pakistan when they were younger!

He was telling me how back in Pakistan they would play in tournaments and they both got the offer to go to some tournament in Faisalabad or something along those lines. Obviously Umar Amin would go but the guy I knew didn't as his dad didn't let him because he wanted him to focus on the studies. He says that Umar Amin was never talented but would put in a lot of hard work and he is still in contact with Umar Amin now.
 
Ordinary captaincy during the National T20 Cup tournament.

Seemed as if he panicked at key moments.
 
This happens when you select captains based on their English speaking skills.

It's always the guy that is the oldest or is fluent in English. It's also why Rizwan got the captaincy in the E-Asia cup. Typical PCB.
