This stadium costed about half a billion Euro (without the land price.....).
I think, PCB is trying to build something like a National stadium, where top matches 'll be played (something like Assembly or Stade de France).

Yes I have actually.
That must explain why there's never been a terrorist attack in Mirpur.

So there has not been an attack in Mirpur so it is perfect spot? Why not sahiwal or Dina or Tobba Tak Singh?
Have been hearing this for years...
Should spend the money on player salaries and improving domestic cricket as well...
We already have international standard stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Faisalabad and Multan.
I doubt we need a another one in Islamabad, last time I checked we are not going to be hosting any major tournament anytime soon so we don't need 15 international stadiums.
Hopefully PCB can work out a way to reduce the environmental impact as it would be terrible to see the local scenery destroyed. It may be mentioned here that Pak-EPA and NCCW had said that the proposed site for the stadium falls in the jurisdiction of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and such a project is a violation of Islamabad Wildlife Ordinance 1979 as well as violation of the city’s master plan.
Construction of this stadium is said to result in the felling of thousands of trees and about 15 acres of shrubs, flora and other greenery.
KARACHI: Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) bid to construct a cricket stadium in Shakarparian in Islamabad has come to a halt after the Supreme Court (SC) scrapped the plan and handed over control to the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday.
The PCB had plans to construct a stadium on 35 acres of land in Shakarparian, which falls in Zone III in Islamabad, however, the SC ruled that since the area was part of the National Park area, construction of a stadium could not be allowed.
PCB Chairman Najam Sethi responded by saying that the board respects the SC’s verdict and will look for an alternate place for the project.
“We wanted to have a stadium there but now as the SC has given a decision not to build the proposed cricket stadium at Sharkarparian, so now we will search for an alternative location,” said Sethi.
Talking about the alternative place for the project, he informed that the board has not yet identified any place but it will share with details with SC as soon as it has found one.
“The PCB will identify new sites for the stadium and would request the SC to ask the CDA to facilitate the search,” he added.
The CDA and PCB signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard, twice — in 2008 and 2012 — but on both occasions the CDA backed out after claims that the PCB had not fulfilled the MoU’s terms and conditions.
Last month, the CDA submitted a report with the SC mentioning that it would not be carry out the project because the PCB had not followed the mutually agreed terms and conditions.
The report said that the PCB began construction after the MoU was signed without obtaining environmental clearance for the stadium.
The 2012 MoU had stated: “Stadium will be constructed in such a way that the area beneath the stadium could be used for commercial purposes. The resources so generated from sports events from this venue or from commercial area by PCB will be shared between CDA and PCB at the ratio of 30:70 respectively.”
Replying to allegations levelled by the CDA Sethi said: “CDA is trying to cover up its incompetence. But we don’t want to get into that and have left the site.”

PCB to be allocated alternate place for stadium in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will be allocated an alternate place by the CDA in the federal capital to build the cricket stadium.
A top PCB official said that the board and CDA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in 2012 under which the CDA allotted 35 acres of land near Shakarparian for the construction of cricket stadium. “But the project could not be materialized as last year Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak EPA) and National Council for Conservation of Wildlife (NCCW) clearly said that the proposed project fell in the jurisdiction of Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP), which was a violation of Islamabad Wildlife Ordinance 1979 as well as of the city's master plan,” he said.
He said construction of stadium at Shakarparian would have resulted in felling of thousands of trees and other greenery which was a clear violation of the Wildlife Ordinance. “Now both PCB and CDA are making efforts to mutually select an alternate site in the federal capital to build the stadium,” he said.
“We will assure that Islamabad Wildlife Ordinance 1979 is not being violated this time. At present, there is no state owned cricket stadium or academy in the capital city and all local matches or trainings are carried out at club owned grounds,” he added. He said the PCB is also constructing a new building in Pindi Cricket Stadium which is likely to be completed within six months. “It will be a three-floor building and work on the project has been started. The media center will also be shifted in the new building,” he said.
He said PCB aims to give a makeover to Pindi stadium along with others stadiums of the country. “In future, we hope that all cities of Pakistan would be hosting international matches including of PSL, therefore, the board wants to upgrade all stadiums,” he said.
