England announce squads for the Royal London ODI series and ICC Champions Trophy

England selectors have announced a 14-man squad for the Royal London ODI Series against Ireland starting on Friday May 5 at Bristol and a 15-man squad for the Royal London ODI series against South Africa and the ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England and Wales in June.

Durham seamer Mark Wood returns for the first time since September and will be looking to add to his 11 caps. Yorkshire all-rounder David Willey is also included having missed the West Indies series in March with a shoulder injury.

Three players – Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes – have not been considered for selection for the Ireland series due to their ongoing Indian Premier League commitments. They return to England on May 15.

Northamptonshire batsman Ben Duckett and Middlesex seamer Steven Finn have both been included in the squad to face Ireland.

National Selector, James Whitaker, said: “We have made encouraging progress over the past 18 months in white ball cricket and the squads selected reflect consistency and give options across all disciplines.

“It is pleasing that Mark Wood and David Willey have returned to full fitness. They add variety and quality to our bowling strengths and David’s ability as an attacking batsman is also an important element for us.

“As we build-up to the ICC Champions Trophy in June, matches against Ireland and South Africa are very important in their own right as we aim to win both series.”

The players selected in the Ireland squad will report to Bristol on Thursday May 4 2017.

Thats a solid solid squad on Paper wont be easy to beat them but they and Safers are chokers so its tough to support them

I'm rooting for Saf vs Eng final..

Not so great team but with home advantage it can be lethal. Needed some effective specialist.

Mark Wood needs very careful handling. He's been through a number of ankle operations, and his action puts so much stress on his ankle.

The bowling isn't up to the mark, Australia and South Africa have superior pace attacks. But the batting is formidable and can compete with anyone.

England HAVE to win either the CT17 or 2019 WC. Both are on home soil. Otherwise it'll be another "Golden Generation" like the football team that promised much but failed to deliver.

England should be one of the big favourites for ICC trophy. Talented and well balanced sqaud picked.

A Hales
J Roy
J Root
E Morgan
J Buttler
B Stokes
M Ali

Wow look at this top 7. Hitters from 1 to 7.

With back ups as

J Bairstow
S Billings
B Duckett

England has four hard hitting wicket keepers

Bairstow, Buttler, Billings, Duckett.

And Pakistan doesn't have a single hitter in their line up, let alone, hard hitting Wicket keeper

Good squad.

Man I can't wait to see us finally play in England but damn, bit fearful as well lol

Interested to see how we put the team together against you guys with no Stokes around. Do we pick 5 bowlers + Root or go with the usual 6 bowlers but Ali as the 6th instead of Stokes.

Commentary: (We're not creative enough and we're not positive enough)

Cricket's COMING HOME! Its COMING HOME! Its COMING HOME! Its COMING!

Everyone seems to know the score, they've seen it all before
They just know, they're so sure
That England's gonna throw it away, gonna blow it away
But I know they can play,
'Cause I remember

Three lions on a shirt
Aussies are still gleaming
40 years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming

So many jokes, so many sneers
But all those "oh so near's"
Wear you down, through the years
But I still see that choke against Bangladesh
And when our bowlers did not score, Dilshan belting the ball
And Nobody dancing

Three lions on a shirt
Aussies still gleaming at us
40 years of hurt
Never stopped me dreaming
