Lahore- April 25, 2017: The National Selection Committee headed by Inzamam ul Haq has selected 15-member squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, 2017 to be played in England and Wales from June 1, 2017 to June 18, 2017. The team has been selected keeping in mind the conditions and the recent performances of some players in domestic and international tours. Azhar Ali making his comeback in the team looking at his good track record at English conditions, whereas Umar Akmal also makes a comeback after bringing considerable improvement in his fitness, and his performance in the ongoing Pakistan Cup. Young Shadab Khan and Fahim Ashraf are retained in the side to give the team variety in the shape of spin and fast bowling all-rounders, respectively. Overall the team consists of experience and youth and the selectors believe that team will do well in the ICC event”, said chief selector Inzimam ul Haq.

The Sarfraz Ahmed-led side will play warm-up matches against Bangladesh (May 27 and Australia May 29 at Edgbaston) before taking on India in its opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy at Edgbaston on June 4, 2017. The selected players are:

  • Mohammad Hafeez
  • Shoaib Malik
  • Umar Akmal
  • Sarfraz Ahmed - Captain, WK

On what basis is Umar Akmal back in? Also very harsh on Aamir Yamin. Fahim Ashraf has done nothing of note in the Pakistan Cup. Why is Wahab still there. Anyway it's academic I see us losing all 3 of our games regardless of who we picked.
 
Hope this is Inzi's last series as selector he needs to go back and run his meat shop, team selection isn't his cup of tea.
 
The biggest blunder is bringing back azhar ali... akmal will either score quick or get out. Azhar will score and score slow. Teams scoring 320 plus for fun and we have guys like shehzad , azhar and hafeez in top 4 who take an eternity to get into double figure.


Say good bye to winning even a single match.

Every selector is the same..the change of names doesnt change anything..the change of mindset does.
 
Hope both Fahim Ashraf and Fakhar Zaman don't get a game. Would be harsh to debut them in a pressure game against the likes of Kohli, Amla, Rabada, and Malinga.
 
I'm fine with Umar but Shehzad and Azhar don't belong in an international ODI team
 
Injustice with Amir Yamin and Sohail Khan. As a fan I want Pakistan to win it. But realistically speaking it is just impossible considering the strong and well balanced teams selected by other nations .

Our team lacks fire power at the top of the order and the tail can hardly score at 6.5 per over. Relying on Umar Akmal after he has disappointed time and again is insane. And on the top of that our bowling lacks killer instinct .
 
Junaid Khan is having worst time as a Cricketer in his entire life. Even his action is questionable.

Picking him ahead of Sohail Khan is worst decision.


Fahim Ashraf is not better than Yamin, Hussain or Amad and we have picked him for CT. He will only warm the bench. If he is rated so highly than he should have played atleast one Odi against West Indies.


We could have picked Yamin, Hussain, Haris or Amin ahead of Fahim.


Azhar Ali is back because all openers picked for PC were TTF'S barring Sahibzada who is just decent.


Fakhar 2.0 won't succeed against top bowling lineups.


Quite poor squad. As Usual.
 
Why Azhar dropped from ODI squad for WI series if they picked him for CT? Inzi is such a stupid idiot.

because according to inzi English conditions require a 'steady' player. Cleary he wasn't watching what happened the last series we played there

April Fools day was a while back... Please tell me this is some sort of sick joke. Absolutely pathetic squad. Why is Azhar Ali there? Why has Aamer Yamin been ignored? Why has Sohail Khan been ignored? Where is Haris Sohail? Shame on you Inzi. Go back to coaching Afghanistan you have lost the plot
 
Why bothered waiting for the last minute of deadline when pakistan cup was not even considered.?
 
Same old story as usual. We'll get clobbered against India and South Africa with this squad. Haris Sohail and Aameir Yameen deserved a place over Umar Akmal and Fahim Ashraf

Very dire and underwhelming squad - we might beat SL but SA and India should be beating that lot.

Why do we need to wait for the inevitable debacle at the CT before making the necessary changes ?

Hussain Talat, Haris Sohail and Amir Yamin deserved callups. I know Haris is still regaining fitness but he'll only do that with more time in the middle.

I'll accept losing if I see us trying to implement a new philosophy and going in the right direction. But this squad is a major backwards step. It'll be a miracle if we progress to the semi-finals.
 
The bowling department is poor too..guys like junaid and riaz are so past. They will be manhandles by the opposition.

More like WICB, They dropped Azhar and Akmal then brought both back, For what?
 
I'm so angry right now!!!! How the hell are we supposed to compete with this team. How are we supposed to improve our ranking. Mickey will be blamed after our poor show but look at the squad that inzi is giving him. It's like giving someone a bicycle and asking them to win the Grand Prix
 
I don't want to say it but in our heart of hearts we are all hoping for a drubbing in the CT so that we can get rid of all this excess fat.

People are exaggerating about the difficulty of "English conditions" - its been phattas here for ODIs in the last few years. We're not playing early May at Headingley.

I remember teams racking up 350 and even 400+ scores in last year's Royal London one day cup.

Meanwhile we have "steady" Azhar and Shehzad to blunt the new ball...

Mickey has a say in the squad selection and he signs off on it. He is as much to blame for this as Inzi.

he was selected as captain without any reason and dropped all together. now got selected for champions trophy but not get selected vs windies odi .

winning or losing is one thing but selecting a team which cant even have any hope for fans when there are players with potential which selectors have ignored .

He wasn't being sarcastic. In ODIs England is arguably the best place to bat these days.

i know its truly shocking,its as if Inzi never watched the ODI series vs England, despite the fact he was there on the ground
 
Sohail khan and yamin deserve a place but let's get behind the boys who are selected. Junaid could surprise a few people in English conditions

Ideal squad to get embarrassed in a tournament once again.

Best hope is only one of Azhar/Shehzad are the openers while Fakhar is the other opener. Seems so odd how Yamin keeps being the odd man out even though he performed well when he was given the chance. Looking at Fahim Ashraf domestic numbers and he seems like a guy that should make it as an all-arounder on the Test team but I'm not convinced he will be good in LOI.

If they're going to have Hafeez in the squad, they should just have him open and give #4 spot to Haris Sohail.
 
Not so good news for Pak fans. Though i hope selectors choose the best thinking lot. Hope this team do well.

Underwhelming. Can't have Azhar and Shehzad in the same squad. And what exactly has Umar Akmal done to get a place?

What English conditions yaar ? We've seen phattas produced here for ODIs in the last few years with teams racking up 350 and 400+ scores.

There may be a little bit of swing up front with the new ball but other than that its easy for batsmen to hit through the line. We're not playing in Durham in early May where the ball is hooping around corners.

Junaid got battered in the domestic one day tournaments and has done little since his comeback.

Unless the conditions/pitches are more adverse than expected, this should be a batsmen-dominated tournament and we are horribly equipped for that.

What is with Fahim Ashraf's selection?

He wasn't given a single match and most probably he will not be given a single match in champions trophy. I am not in favor of dropping a player without giving him a chance but it seems like Fahim is only selected in squad to not to be selected in final XI.

All-rounder is the most important position in the team and we are selecting a player which we know will not make final XI.

Seems like Inzi completely disregarded the Pakistan Cup, that includes the good performances (Yamin, Sohail, Haris) and the bad performances (Junaid)
 
they literally could not have selected a worse team had they gone inni mini miny mo after putting all the names on the table.

It's surprising indeed. Suchha Musalman, Inzi said that they'll consider PAK Cup performance will be considered - so they have recalled 1 player who didn't participate & one, who has a run a ball 72 - after failing fitness Test 2 months back.

On a serious note, I can only say that, I still have long, long way to understand Inzi. I knew, he'll be a horrible CS, but this is a bit too much.

this is exactly what I was thinking. all this talk about using Pakistan cup for selection and yet still selected Fahim Ashraf, Umar Akmal and Hafeez.
 
Umar akmal is number 17th in most runs list of ongoing pakistan cup. If sort by average he is more down in the list AND he get recalled. Even mohammed sami has better average than umar as per recent form.

Like I wrote before, no wonder pakistan is one of the most corrupt country.

Shame on you inzimam and other selectors who just to accommodate a TTF and an unfit player, destroying other deserving player's career.

And people want us to support them. A team full of ttf's. Playing due to connections. I will be honest nodays I only watch shadab and babar azam bat it bowl as soo as they are not I turn the tv off. Hoping we lose all 3 of these matches. Fell very sorry for amir yamin and Harris sohail.
