The Indian cricket team was unhappy with the practice facilities at Edgbaston with captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble making their displeasure known, according to a report on PTI.

The report added that both Kohli and Kumble had reservations as the arena was small in size. The main issue was the run-up for fast bowlers.

Thursday was India’s first training day in Birmingham and they were allocated the practice arena adjacent to main stadium.

It was learnt that Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Shami and Hardik Pandya, all of whom have a 30-yard run-up, couldn’t bowl full tilt at the nets as the distance wasn’t big enough.

The captain and the coach sent manager Kapil Malhotra to sort the issue with Warwickshire (local county) authorities.

The fact that Australia and New Zealand would be playing a game on Friday at Edgbaston may have prompted the authorities to deny India full facilities or those at the main arena.

The Pakistan team, India’s opponents on Sunday, also practiced at the same ground.

However, since they have been camping in Birmingham over the past week, they have already got a feel of the main practice arena.

India will only get a feel of the main turf on Saturday, prior to the marquee clash.

The excuses have already started.

Awwwwww bachoon ke paass khelne ki jaga nahi hai shoooo sad :sree :sree :sree :sree

Obviously these are all "valid concerns", since it's the Indian side who is complaining. :))

If ECB cannot provide good practice facilities, then they should not organise such tournaments. Remember, ECB were very keen to organise this Champions Trophy one more time because they earned handsome profit while organising it last time.

Even this time, they wanted to organise this tournament for the same reason. And when BCCI were contemplating pulling out of this tournament, they they applied pressure through various channels to ensure the participation of BCCI. They all want money that Indian market helps bring them, but they cannot arrange for proper practice facilities for the team that is helping them earn that money.

In the past, English media would publish such reports whenever they felt that their players were not getting proper facilities in India. It turns out that now England has become like India of 1970s- a place where decent practice facilities are not available for visiting teams.

If pace bowlers cannot have space for their run up, then how is this an excuse ?

Indians shoulod lower their expectations. England isn't really the same country it used to be. Today its pretty much the same whether you'replaying in England or Colombo.

Still a massive upgrade for players used to the Mumbai slums...

That's the only reason I have any regard for Gavaskar the commentator. He is the only one who would openly talk about these things on air while in these countries, particularly England. Sometime in the mid 2000s recall him calling a ground in England a village ground with village facilities and how the same English used to **** and moan about facilities in India when they toured.

The great thing about the way the BCCI has spread the net of cricket in India is that, you can come from a slum, but once you're noticed, you're given good practice facilities and not slum facilities.

Something the English and their cheerleaders can learn from.

None of the Indian pacers are from Mumbai slums. They are from Bengal (Shami), Punjab (Bumrah), Vidarbha-Maharashtra (Umesh Yadav), UP (Bhuvneshwar Kumar). Their home pitches - Eden Gardens, Kolkata, , PCA ground, Mohali, VCA ground-Nagpur, and Green Park, Kanpur- are all test match quality grounds.

That is true. Even the so called Mecca of cricket, Lords , is a tiny ground sloping on one side. It is grounds like MCG, Eden Gardens, Kolkata etc that are real great grounds.

I've been stood near the Edgbaston training ground before watching the likes of Broad and Anderson bowl off full run-ups with room to spare so not entirely sure how Pandya, Shami and Umesh are struggling for space?

The facilities these spoilt-brat Indians would be getting in England would be several times better than what they are used to in third-world India.

What's the point of practice facilities that dont have proper space for pace bowling run-up ? It is useless to a professional team and organisers getting sloppy here.

Edgbaston has always been the same. They probably expect some Indian pitch to be dug up and specially bought in for them. Get on with it, cry babies.

Anyone remember australian cricketers carrying their own luggage? What were the reactions back then?

'Big Deal' :inti

Bhai. Players themselves didn't regard that a 'big deal'. Only fans were concerned with that issue. Here players themselves are complaining.

What you said doesn't even make sense. What Viru bhai meant to say was that the Aussies shut up about it and got on with the job meanwhile the Indian superstars are complaining about something that is a lot minor.

India should just get on with it. There bowlers are experienced enough to deal with it.

OK. But not getting proper practice is not a minor problem ahead of a big game in a big tournament due to such negligence. Surely players would get on with it..

That sounds a professionally legitimate reason from them. This is an ICC tournament not some club game. They should be provided adequate training facilities and that is the prime responsibility of the host country

Bumrah is one of the very few Punjab players who are actually world class, majority of the other punjab players tend to fall flat or have had unfulfilled careers. Rest of the Indian players in the team are world beaters.

Pakistani team should have asked for better practicing facilities. Looks like they weren't interested in practicing before match.
