What is the real reason behind the end of Indian team's Test dominance on home soil?

Indian cricket team dominated at home from 2012 to 2024 untill NZ whitewash us 3-0 ,what seems to be the main issue with indian test side? Is it really a Gambhir problem, or could it just be that they are going through a transition phase after losing stalwarts like Virat,Rohit & Ashwin through retirement and Shami through injury?

The arrogance of the players, the coach, the board, and fans like you is the main reason. :inti
Pretty much - You stole my words. I never in my life have been as discreet to speak to Indians as I have been in past 10 years or so. Even my hate for PA Generals is nothing compared to these Sanghis & their dumb leaders.

Reason India is not dominating at home is teams like south Africa have world class bowlers in spin and pace departments you cant doctor the pitches to suit your spinners because they have equally good or better spinners last series against pakistan they won on doctored pitch

GG resulting in pathetic selection .... too much fascination with instant cricket - I know it is hugely lucrative btw !!!

India lost a lot of big names that carried their cricket.

Ashwin Sharma Kohli were on their last legs and no replacement groomed.

If Jadeja and Bumrah have a bad day nobody is ready yet to step up.

Lack of talent.
If you think Jaiswal, Rahul, Sudarshan/Jurel, Gill, Pant, Jadeja,..... Are consistantly going to win you matches, then you are in for a shock.
First, you have to play the right combination, 6 batters (including wk), all rounder, 4 bowlers (2-2 or 3-1).
That playing XI of india is a lot worst than what people think.

The issue is, none of the players in the test team are able to cope with the spin.

Jaiswal and Gill when fit are good.
KL Rahul is decent
Sai sudarshan is not ready for test cricket. This should be the last series for him before taking a long break. He needs more time in domestics.
Pant is too brittle. His injuries are not helping his form
Jurel has flopped. But he scores in A games.
Nitish teddy needs to improve both batting and bowling. He needs to be out of team.
Jaddu has finally flopped in a test series.
Washi is good.
Kuldeep is good.
Bowlers flopped.

India need to include genuine batsman in tests.

Only jaiswal and gill are good test batters

Guys like sudharsan, nitish reddy, kl are never going to make India dominant at home

India after dominating at home for a good 12 years are allowed to have 1-2 bad series. Need to give credit to a massively improved full of character South African side which has beaten Australia in a WTC final, Pakistan in Pakistan and now India in India. They are now back to their 2012-2015 best form in all formats of the game

India are not able to win key moments. They are pretty loose and T20s have made sure players don’t have patience now.

Selections hasn’t been consistent. What did Sarfaraz do to get dropped in Indian conditions? There seems to be a bit preference given to players whom they think will do well in SENA but as a result, we have ended up losing couple of home series. Not winning crucial moments is a big problem as well.

Wankhede vs NZ - India couldn’t chase 150.
Lords vs Eng - India couldn’t chase 190. That pitch got so much better afterwards when Jadeja was batting with Bumrah/Siraj.
Kolkata vs SA - India couldn’t chase 124.

They also seem to be missing Ashwin because he and Jadeja were basically carrying the Indian team at home for last 5-6 years when Indian batsman including Kohli, Rohit, Pujara were getting flopped.

And finally, credit to South Africa because they learnt a lesson after their last tour to India that they need to have good spinners alongwith pacers to win test matches across the world. They have been able to win crucial moments under the captaincy of Bavuma. NZ also did the same under captaincy of Latham last year.

We dont have good red ball players. Current selection is crap.
Gill is yet to establish himself as a leader.

Iyer / Pandya seem good fit as captaincy contenders, Pant is not a leader and post his comeback from that life threatening accident looks a shadow of himself.

Too much focus on winning icc events like odi/ t20 titles seem to have corrupted the test selection

They are likely to have more than 1-2 bad series.

There is no more Kohli, Rohit, Pujara, and Ashwin. Once Bumrah, Kuldeep, and Siraj retire, things are likely to become far worse. :inti

If that was the case we wouldn’t have drawn the series in England.

The team is new and settling. Jaiswal is one of the best talent in the world, Gill is up there too.

As for Jadeja, lol, that guy literally helped us in a 11 year domination in home matches.

Literally all of them are better test players than Babar Azam.

It's an insult for Jadeja to be compared to a specialist batsman averaging 42 in Tests with 1 century in SENA. Jadeja being a bowling all rounder averages 38 with the bat in Tests.

Gambhir's arrogance & ego has cost us another series at home.

When you have batsmen like Gaikwad, Patidar, Karun, Sarfaraz performing in first class cricket, yet you opt to play with only two batsmen Rahul & Jaiswal, you are bound to lose. Gill is reduced to being a puppet in this ego game of Gambhir.

In all likelyhood, we will lose in SL & NZ too. End of our WTC even if we manage to beat Australia in '27.

Test cricket is dying quickly in India, too much focus on IPL, no quality bats with any decent technique is coming to the test scene for India.

Unfortunately India's test cricket playing days are over, they will be like a Pakistan or Bangladesh...

Look at this test team & u realise its actually a good T20 team

There lies the problem. Bit & pieces players are great for T20s but not so great for tests

Also Kuldeep is a white ball bowler , not red ball player. Its a big difference
