Jaiswal needs to curb this aggression a bit. He looks a million bucks but some of this is unnecessary

These 2 sixes would've been enough to scare English teams of the past.

But with Stokes and Baz, theres too much of that laid back yet tough character that is typical of Antipodean cricketers .

So it’s rinse & repeat big 3 play 5 test matches each get to the wtc finals by default & rest live of scraps. Is Vince macmohan heading icc these days
Winning percentage is the criteria for WTC final spot.. And others would happily play less tests & more T20Is (other than big 3)..

This is good planning and selection by England.

Wood looking to target the right shoulder with the new ball.

Will bowl much fuller with a reversing ball.

India simply can't take this English side lightly at all.

Have got to outlast them rather than looking to trade punches.

Ben Foakes tripped over the stumps while trying to grab the throw. LOL

You can say that stumps are dismantled but could not get a wicket.

Wood is the best bowler in this line up, he should look to conserve energy as well, not burn out in 6 overs!

This feels like India's still to get over the T20, World Cup hangover. Could work but it's a high risk-high reward approach.

Incredible fielding from Crawley! He stops what looks a certain four from Hartley's first ball

I know hindsight is pointless, but Sam Curran must be included on Asian tours.

He's among the most underrated English batsmen on Subcontinental pitches + Can bowl medium pace well holding up one end + exceptional fielder. In the subcontinent irrespective of format Sam Curran must play.

Explained: Rule That Forced Umpire To Reduce 1 Run From England's Total In 1st Test vs India

A big confusion unfolded on Day 1 of the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad after Rehan Ahmed saw a run's deduction to his tally. The England batter, despite running a double before the overthrow from an Indian fielder, saw only 5 runs being awarded instead of 6, leaving fans in the stadium and on social media confused. However, the decision was correct because of the rule that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has for such scenarios.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full toss on the pads and it was flicked behind square on the on-side by Rehan. The throw from the fielder was a wide one and it beat the backup fielder and went straight to the boundary.

Initially, 6 runs were awarded to Rehan but the umpire reversed his decision and said only 5 runs would be given as the two batters hadn't crossed each other when the throw left the hand of the fielder.

The rule was seriously looked upon after a similar incident took place in the England vs New Zealand ODI World Cup final 2019. In that instance, England were given 6 runs instead of 5 even though the two batters hadn't crossed each other.

What does the rule say?

MCC rule 19.8 is applicable on the matter. It says:

19.8 Overthrow or wilful act of fielder

If the boundary results from an overthrow or from the wilful act of a fielder, the runs scored shall be any runs for penalties awarded to either side and the allowance for the boundary and the runs completed by the batters, together with the run in progress if they had already crossed at the instant of the throw or act.

Harsha Bhogle, the commentator during the incident on Day 1 of the first Test, explained the matter on-air while also reminding former England captain Eoin Morgan of what was the case in the 2019 ODI World Cup, contrary to the scenario that unfolded in Hyderabad.

Why have England brought a bunch of spinning kids? Poor guys can potentially go back with their careers ruined.

I always wonder how Jaiswal plays. He looks too weak and unathletic. How did he even hit the six? Can he play 155+ deliveries?

His is a fairytale story. Has to have unbelievable fortitude to achieve what he has achieved given where he's come from.

Mental strength probably substitutes for physical strength in his case.

Too much bounce saved prince Gill on DRS. Always knew this is a bouncy Perth like track

Has come from the bottom rungs of society, so possibly malnourished as a kid. But he will only grow stronger with time, already must have immense mental strength to make it so far.

I think it's a cultural issue, as in what we see as strong or healthy. Ask all the chachas and auntys back home and they'll tell you Azam is stronger and 'healthier' than Jaiswal any day.

Foakes must man up and play a role when English DRS reviews come up. The guy looks clueless and let others take control.

Partnership is 35 balls and Jaiswal only play 6 ball . Very poor from gill to not rotate strike
