India (150 & 487/6d) beat Australia (104 & 238) by 295 runs in the 1st Test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Firstly, the ICC which supposedly runs the WTC and is in charge of the finals, want no part of this. They were dragged kicking and screaming to start this. They don't want to touch WTC with a ten foot pole.

The longest "tournament" in sports. So long that no one know when it even started.
The longest finals in sports history. Slated for 5 days.
And the one that takes the grand prize, teams playing the same game will earn different number of points. Depending on how many games are in a series.
WTC actually discourages teams from playing a longer series. Because, the more number of tests the lesser points each test is worth!

I say utter nonsense.

Affirms my suspicion ur born after 1995-2000. if u think 5 days match is a long final ...then hello...do u even watch test series ? one test match which used to run 4- 5 days before advent of t20 now barely last 2- 4 days.

its because of lack of patience in generation z x or whatever post 1995 people that u guys feel like this.

oh wait no ..if americans play basketball play offs for 5- 7 matches over few weeks then its alright eh ? nba championships last a year too afaik.

f1 races last a year too.

however cricket has 3 formats to accodomate. plus ipl psl sa pl west indies pl bangla pl and so on.

u can watch t20 as per ur patience levels. let us purists enjoy some semblance of Classic cricket

Who do we drop from the batting line up for Adelaide? Paddikal or Jurel?

jurel for gill . padikkal for rohit. hopefully. nitish rahul deserve to stay where they played. wud hate to see vadapav get out after playing 10 balls and put others under pressure

I mean with Rohit we have no choice. He is captain and he comes back and opens. Rahul has booked his spot for another test. That means Gill should be expendable.

id still pick ashwin over washington and jadeja. either ashwin or jaddu depending on pitch. they both have ability to rip thru top order unlike washy who can only remove tail enders . plus both r as good batters as washy if not better

Lol. Now we'll take another 20 overs to get the last wicket as usual.

jurel for gill . padikkal for rohit. hopefully. nitish rahul deserve to stay where they played. wud hate to see vadapav get out after playing 10 balls and put others under pressure
I really hope they don't drop jurel
@Devadwal

Jurel keep him

Bring Gill for paddikal I guess. Paddikal more suited for Asian wickets and West Indies and maybe swing conditions. Gill better for flat wickets and pace and bounce.

Nha bro. Servers underestimating how good washy as a batsman is.

He is far better than both as batsman. Has some work to do as a bowler.

Jasprit Bumrah during post match ceremony:

"Very happy with that beginning, especially with the way we responded after being put under pressure in the first innings. I'm really proud of the team. I played here in 2018 and remember the pitches become quicker and quicker. This one was a little less spicy than the last time I played here, but we were really well prepared either way. I told everyone to have faith in their process. On any given day, experience does matter, but anyone who has faith in their ability can do something special. We can't ask for anything else from Jaiswal. That was probably his best Test innings so far, especially because he left the ball well and played long. Virat was looking very good in the nets so hopefully he'll build in confidence and go from strength to strength."

Australia captain Pat Cummins during post match ceremony:

"That was fairly disappointing. We thought our preparation leading in was firing. It was just one of those games where nothing went right, so there's a fair bit to look at ahead of next week. After a loss you always want to get back on the horse pretty quickly but we'll take a couple of days rest before we get to Adelaide. We didn't really give ourselves a chance in a few facets, especially late on Day 1. If we got through that period maybe the game would have looked a little different on Day 2. There are a few areas where we have to clean up. We've got a bit of work to do this week and I'm sure there will be plenty of conversations about what we could have done better."

1st Test: Jasprit Bumrah's India breach Perth fortress, outclass hapless Australia

Pat Cummins's Australia have had a knack for delivering knockout punches to India on the grandest stages. Remember the WTC Final triumph at the Oval or silencing over a lakh Indian fans in Ahmedabad during the 2023 ODI World Cup final? This time, though, it was Jasprit Bumrah's turn to flip the script—and what a statement his side made in Perth! Bumrah's India hammered the Australians at their Optus fortress, handing them their first-ever defeat at the venue with a 295-run win in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. After setting a mammoth 534-run target, India bowled Australia out for 238 to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

India stormed back to the top of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings with 61.11 percentage points after Perth win. As for the margin, this victory is India's biggest ever, surpassing their previous record of 222 runs, set back in 1978 in Sydney when Australia fielded a weakened side amidst the mass exodus for the Kerry Packer World Series. A history-defining win, in more ways than one!

Who would have thought this comeback was on the cards after India’s dramatic collapse on Day 1? Bowled out for a mere 150, it seemed like the script was written for another Australian steamroll. But, as they say, there's something magical in the Australian air—or water—that transforms India. It was a showcase of every sporting cliché done right: audacious bounce backability, unwavering team spirit, a defiant never-say-die attitude, and self-belief that defies logic.

India delivered a performance for the ages, spearheaded by stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah. With eight wickets across the match and stellar centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli in the second innings, India demolished a faltering Australia. This isn't just a win; it's India's largest Test victory by runs on foreign soil. Only once before has a team won by a bigger margin after being dismissed for 150 or fewer in the first innings-West Indies, against Australia in Bridgetown, 1991.

Coming off a shocking 3-0 home whitewash against New Zealand, India arrived underprepared and undermanned, missing skipper Rohit Sharma and an injured Shubman Gill. Yet, under intense scrutiny, coach Gautam Gambhir’s bold calls—including benching spin stalwarts R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja—paid off spectacularly. Bumrah was the beating heart of this triumph. His fiery late-day-one spell turned the tide after India’s dismal 150-run collapse on a winning toss. His leadership electrified a revamped squad, proving that the right spark can ignite even the toughest challenges.

BUMRAH, SIRAJ DECIMATE AUSTRALIA ON DAY 4

Skipper Jasprit Bumrah (3/42) and Mohammed Siraj (3/54) led the charge on the fourth day, with Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy providing crucial support by claiming a wicket each. India had set Australia an imposing target of 534 runs on day three. Starting the day at 12 for 3, chasing 534, it seemed only a matter of time before Australia would capitulate, and they eventually did, despite a spirited 89 from Travis Head that only delayed the inevitable.

In contrast to the previous two tours where India began in Adelaide, known for its batting-friendly conditions, Australia opted to start the series on the bounciest pitch in the country. The move worked initially, but only for a session and a half before it backfired. While Australia had hoped to exploit India's vulnerabilities, they also gambled on their own underperforming batting lineup. Key players like Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne have struggled with form for some time, and the decision to bring in rookie Nathan McSweeney, who is untested and not an opener, highlighted Australia's own transition phase—one that could prove even more challenging than India's.

By the third evening, Josh Hazlewood had seemingly given up, and it wouldn't be surprising if the Australian team management opts for flatter pitches in future matches to negate Bumrah’s threat. However, Bumrah, a bowler who can tighten the noose under any conditions, continued to dominate. On the fourth afternoon, Bumrah produced what could be considered the best of his eight wickets in the match, dismissing Head, who had been battling hard. Pitched on length, the ball climbed unexpectedly, catching the outside edge of Head’s bat and ending Australia's resistance.

Dominant victory. Congratulations to all the Indian fans.

commiserations to Australian, Pakistan, Bangladesh or rest of cricketing fans

Can't wait for 2nd test. bring it on . :kp
Bro we need to stop giving taunt to pakistan or any other adian team end of the day we all here as brother who love to post about this great game india won it hats off to them

What is taunt .this is how were Pakistan fan's said when You guy's were won the series against australia .

If You can't take it then don't give it . :kp

By the end of this tour, which excuse will we see from Indian fans? Pick one.

1) Umpires were biased.
2) Aussies were racists.
3) Dog ate our homeworks.
4) It was too hot.
5) We didn't have a full team.

Instead the excuses we heard was:

1) T20/IPL destroyed test batting
2) Bumrah Chucks
3) Australia intentionally underperform due to IPL money

Absolute humiliation for some posters who are all hiding now

It is refreshing to see no arrogant chest thumping from Indian fans.

Aussies are doing it again.

IND - 128/8.

Aussies dropped 2 catches. Otherwise, India could've been all-out for 130-140.

Anyway, I expect Aussies to win by an innings here.

It is gold to see such arrogant posts and that too from a fan of a team who never gets invited to Australia

@Devadwal

Proper beatdown by India.

Bumrah turned the game on its head once Australia came out to bat. His memorable effort added to his legacy, but the Australians suffered a humiliating defeat at home.

It'll be interesting to see how the Australians come back in Adelaide. That batting order is looking pretty fragile right now.

@Devadwal
Today win has shut all the indian haters for atleast 10 days .

This victory was much needed after NZ series.

Now I'm back to the form to take on these loser's who are jumping up and down based on others team results because own team can't do anything:kp

What a win! Never thought I'd see this day especially when we lost 3 tests on the trot against NZ!

Bumrah was sensational as a captain! Now see Rohit making a mess of this camaraderie.

Aussies lack of competitive edge in the opening Test match has caught them out big style. Remember, their previous test series was way back in March, so they've basically been playing limited over cricket right up to this test match. This will give them the mileage in the legs for the rest of the series.

As for india, even though the humbling at the hands of kiwis, it was three very tough test matches lead up to this.

I do watch all formats of cricket. My comment was not against test cricket. Which you too have to admit is a dying format. My comment was specific to the WTC setup. But you are right. People have the choice to watch the format they want. And they should exercise that choice.

By the way I noticed you chose to ignore my other points on ICC's attitude towards the WTC and the whole points system of WTC.

Bro, 10 days left before the start of next test. If I were you, will start thinking of more excuses.

Just a reminder, you have already used following in this game:

1. T20 destroyed Australian batting
2. Bumrah chucks
3. Aust intentionally underperform due to IPL money

Time to come up with something new. 10 days left..so lots of time

India shatter multiple records on their way to historic win in Perth Test

From Virat Kohli unlocking another run-scoring feat in Australia to Jasprit Bumrah rubbing shoulders with Kapil Dev, India’s win against Australia saw several key milestones.

India kickstarted the five-Test Border-Gavaskar series against Australia with a comprehensive 295-run triumph in Perth on Monday, 25 November.

The win is India’s biggest by the margin of runs against Australia in Australia. The previous biggest win dates back to 1977, when India won their first Test Down Under in Melbourne. It is also their 10th Test victory in the country.

In the overall contests between these two nations, it was the second biggest Test win (in terms of runs) after the Mohali Test (2008), when India had won by 320 runs.

1732531443187.png

Laying the foundation for the win was the stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah, who snapped eight wickets across the Test, including a five-for in the first innings.

Bumrah became only the second captain from Asia to lead his team to a Test win against Australia in Perth - after Anil Kumble (2008).

The 30-year-old levelled the record for most five-wicket hauls for India in Tests in the SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). Bumrah is now level with Kapil Dev atop the tally with seven five-fors.

After India managed to dismiss Australia for 104 in the first innings and establish a 46-run advantage, Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and KL Rahul set the stage for a big total.

The duo combined to add 201 runs - the highest opening wicket stand for India in Australia.

1732531468220.png

Jaiswal also became only the second player to convert his first four Test hundreds into 150 plus scores - the other being former South Africa captain Graeme Smith.

Also back in form for India in the longest format was Virat Kohli, who notched his 30th Test ton, his first in Australia since 2018.

It was the seventh overall Test hundred for Kohli Down Under - most by an Indian batter in the country. He broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of six centuries in 20 Tests.

Great Win by India.

Bumrah almost single handedly won us this match. India were playing with inexperienced bowling line up.

India should try a bit of different line up. For me not just Padikal, but Jurel is out too. Keep the 1st test opening pair intact, Gill at 3 and put Rohit at 5 and Pant at 6. If Shami is available, the he comes in for Rana.

Aus. needs to make at least one batting (if not two) and one bowling change. Induce some fresh blood.

Great win.

Jaiswal's first hundred outside India and that too in Perth was biggest positive for India. Immaculate technique and unflappable temperament he showed.

Plays an attacking game still seems very hard to dismiss. No obvious faults in his game.

Great win for India.

Actually, now we can say that we are actually faring better away from home in last few years than at home where we used to be dominant in past.

In last few years, we have drawn test series in England and South Africa and of course we had those two series wins in Australia. In addition to all these, no upset or a loss vs weaker nation like Sri Lanka, Windies or Bangladesh.

Nice win for India but I still think Aussies should win the series.

I think Aussies may win the series 3-2 or 3-1.

I Feel 2 2 draw or 3 -2 aus win. But i do think one game will be washed out. So 3-1 aus or 2-2

No one underestimates Australia. They have winning culture. I am sure they will comeback strong.

PS - You saved yourself from 100 pushups :misbah

Why Australia and England reluctant to host Bangladesh?

"

Bangladesh were set to tour Australia in 2018, but Cricket Australia communicated with Bangladesh Cricket Board a few months ahead of the tour saying it would not be “commercially viable”. According to James Sutherland, the then chief executive of Cricket Australia, top-end matches out of season get “swamped” by major football codes.

That means the reluctance of Australia or England to host Bangladesh is something that does not seem to go anytime soon. And Bangladesh, without doubt, still have a mountain to climb before arranging for an opportunity for their cricket-crazy fans to feast their eyes on their heroes stepping onto the lush green outfields of The Oval or the SCG, as neither Australia nor England will easily be interested to host Bangladesh. Bangladesh must improve to get hosted by them.

"

Bangladesh has to elevate their game significantly even to get an invitation. If you ask me India should adopt the same policy going forward.

That is an excuse. lol What competitive test matches India played by Nitish kumar reddy, Paddikal, Nitish Rana, Jhurel. India fielded a noob unit, over the hill players unit. What is next " they didn't get enough practice at Perth"? India did not even play a practice game. Just closed door practice. You can't win a 5 day test match by turning up. You have to work hard to earn your win.

As I have said before Bangladeshis can’t compete so they adopt other teams and then fix the timeline that we love Aussies from 2000s lol
Let it be it’s what makes forum fun, I can’t even imagine how miserable such posters must be but irrespective its amusing.

Great humbling for India.

:shakib
what is it with Bangladeshis and celebrating early? India may very well go and lose the series, but why not wait for it to happen before celebrating? also why does achievements of Australia bring joy to poor BD fan? lack of self-image, lack of achievements, poor athleticism and skills of their own players, etc makes them hold on to achievements of others while their own team is always scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

I think Indian fans give too much oxygen to single poster. It is not like you are going to successfully convert or convince trolls. So what is the point of engagement?

That's what I love about Team India... they always rise from nowhere. No one even gave them hope that they could win a single game in Australia after that horrible performance at home but they stood up and proved everyone wrong.

It required extaordinary discipline from batsmen especially Rahul and Jaiswal to complement the bowling of Bumrah. If INdia had lost Jaiswal/Rahul early the whole match would have produced a different result.

One minute down, next minute up - Team India.

Not he, but Indian cricket team saved him from doing 100 pushups. He should be thankful to Indian cricket team.

It's all good. India is likely to lose this series and not make it to WTC.

I expect Aussies to win this series and win the WTC.

intention is not to convert or convince the trolls. It is to make fun of them as we don't have many other BD trolls to make fun off :).. We don't want him to go away and want him to continue to put his feet in his mouth, which personifies his team and his country. This allows us to have some fun at their expenses :)

If I am not a Bangladeshi, what am I? Nigerian? Bolivian?

As someone who watches cricket since 1997 and played hard ball cricket, I am pretty sure I know the basics of cricket.

Just because you disagree with someone doesn't mean he is a troll.
Which league have you played in Canada? I have played in SCA and Lakeshore.
It's all good. India is likely to lose this series and not make it to WTC.

sorry to burst your bubble but India will most likely win the series 3-1 or 3-2.

Australia will lose some points for slow over rate in Perth which would it even more difficult to qualify for the final.

It will be an India vs SAF/Lanka final.
