I was chatting with one of the players (a bowler) who is taking part in the ongoing QEA Trophy final between HBL and WAPDA and it was interesting that he was saying that the quality of the pink balls was abysmal. He said that the ball's seam is getting damaged quickly and the general quality of the ball is very poor.

Apparently what has happened is that the PCB bought a huge supply of these low quality pink balls because they were cheap.

Really poor planning by the PCB.

I would be more surprised if they were using good quality balls, thats something which is worth breaking news.

It's actually better than the rubbish they use in non televised matches where the likes of Sadaf Hussain, Tabish, Mir Hamza Talha etc. rack up crazy good stats.

And our spreadsheet statistics lovers go crazy over them.

Anyways.

The pink ball here is deteriorating a bit quickly also because the ground and pitch is not green enough.

You need to prepare greentop to let the pink ball survive for long. Without grass on the pitch and the outfield, it gets worn out.

Dr_Bassim is also one of those confused Asif bashers who don't seem to get this concept and he keeps terming Asifs magic as 'but but but it's on a greentop'.

These televised finals actually give us relatively better quality balls and grounds than non televised junk.

so if asif can swing the low quality ball, just imagine what is he gonna do with actual kookaburra in his hands...

I don't think 'marginally less terrible' is a good standard to aim for.

It's absolutely not.

But PCB is inefficient. You work with what you have.

Asif has already done it in the past and he's the best in the world at that. Be it Kookaburra or whatever.

Fun fact.

He's James Anderson's teacher and taught him how to swing and move the ball.

'but but Asif can't swing it now'. Yeah, right.

I actually tried to buy some cheap first and second generation Kookaburra pink balls, and was told that I got the last one.

I presume they dumped them in Pakistan!
