Arsenal beat Valencia convincingly in the semis.

Chelsea beat Frankfurt on penalties.

Chelsea have already qualified for the Champions League next season courtesy of a top four finish. But Arsenal haven't so more at stake for them.

Who'll win?

Arsenal are so up and down - that even as an Arsenal supporter, I find it hard to realistically predict their win!

Chelsea are the better side, but Emery is the master of Europa League. Almost impossible to call this one.

Chelsea should win this. Arsenal have a very poor defence which will not be able to hold back Hazard/Willian/Pedro and co.

Arsenal as they have more at stake. Chelsea have already qualified for CL

Hazard will win it for Chelsea. He will be the difference maker.

London - Arsenal have branded the decision for Azerbaijani capital Baku to host their Europa League final with Chelsea as "unacceptable" as fans struggle with the logistics and cost of attending the game on May 29.

The London clubs were given 6 000 tickets each by European football's governing body for the match at the 68 700-capacity Olympic Stadium, more than 4 500 kilometres from the English capital.

UEFA cited Baku's limited airport capacity as one reason for not reserving more tickets for travelling fans.

"We are bitterly disappointed by the fact that due to transport limitations UEFA can only make a maximum of 6 000 tickets available to Arsenal for a stadium with a capacity of well over 60 000," said Arsenal in a strongly worded statement.

"Time will tell if it is even possible for 6 000 Arsenal fans to attend the match, given how extreme the travel challenges are."

Liverpool and Tottenham supporters have also complained about the limited number of tickets given to both clubs for the Champions League final, in Madrid on June 1.

And Arsenal called on UEFA to take fans' considerations more into account when choosing where showpiece European finals are held.

"On behalf of our fans, we would like to understand the criteria by which venues are selected for finals, and also how supporter requirements are taken into account as part of this," added Arsenal's statement.

"Moving forward, we would urge UEFA to ensure that supporter logistics and requirements are a key part of any future decisions for final venues as what has happened this season is unacceptable, and cannot be repeated.

"We would be happy to join any future discussions to avoid this situation happening again."

Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek will miss the Europa League final after rupturing his Achilles tendon in a charity friendly in the USA.

The 23-year-old went down clutching his left ankle in the first half of Chelsea's 3-0 win over New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

Chelsea said the player had seen a specialist on Thursday and will now have surgery.

Chelsea play Arsenal in the final in Baku on Wednesday, 29 May.

England manager Gareth Southgate had earlier confirmed Loftus-Cheek would miss the final when announcing his squad for the forthcoming Nations League finals.

The player had been in the squad - but Southgate was forced to call up a replacement after learning of his injury.

"I went to bed last night and Ruben's in the squad and playing brilliantly," Southgate said.

"He misses now a major European final and a brilliant opportunity for us."

He added it was a "huge disappointment" for the Chelsea man.

Loftus-Cheek scored in the second leg of the Blues' Europa League semi-final against Eintracht Frankfurt and has been directly involved in nine goals in his past 15 competitive appearances for Chelsea.

Wednesday's friendly raised £3.1m for organisations which combat hate crimes.

Ross Barkley scored twice either side of an Olivier Giroud header in the comfortable win in Foxborough.

Prior to the game, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri had expressed his concerns about travelling to the US so close to a major European final.

Damn, injured in such a pointless game ruling you out of a European final! Crazy really

We're going to lose this without Loftus Cheek, I'm fuming at the board for setting up this charity friendly in against some no-name US team this close to the end of the league season. Honestly, I'm very pessimistic now about the final, it would be a surprise if we pull this out when our midfield is going to have a bang average player like Kovacic and Barkley in it. First Hudson Odoi and now Ruben Loftus Cheek. Hazard is also gone in the summer, this is looking disastrous. We'll be lucky to finish 6th next season if it stays this way.

London derby in Baku shame this final should have taken place in England somewhere like London Stadium St James Park Molineux

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not play in the Europa League final against Chelsea on 29 May.

It is understood the Armenian, 30, feared for his safety on the pitch in Baku, Azerbaijan.

"Having considered all current options, we had to take the tough decision for me not to travel with the squad to the Europa League final," said Mkhitaryan.

"It's the kind of game that doesn't come along very often and I admit, it hurts a lot to miss it."

As a result of political tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Mkhitaryan has missed club matches played in Azerbaijan in the past.

"We have written to Uefa expressing our deep concerns about this situation," read an Arsenal statement.

"We have thoroughly explored all the options for Micki to be part of the squad but after discussing this with Micki and his family we have collectively agreed he will not be in our travelling party.

"Micki has been a key player in our run to the final so this is a big loss for us from a team perspective.

"We're also very sad that a player will miss out on a major European final in circumstances such as this, as it is something that comes along very rarely in a footballer's career."

Uefa responded to Arsenal with a statement that said: "Working alongside Arsenal FC, Uefa sought and received assurances regarding the player's safety in Azerbaijan from the highest authorities in the country.

"As a result of these guarantees, a comprehensive security plan was developed and given to the club.

"While the club acknowledges the efforts that Uefa and the Azeri government have gone to in this matter, we respect the personal decision not to travel with the player."

Arsenal, who finished fifth in the Premier League, will qualify for next season's Champions League if they beat Chelsea.

It would be their first European trophy since they won the Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

On Monday, Azerbaijan's ambassador to the UK, Tahir Taghizadeh, said there was no cause for concern.

"I would say [to Mkhitaryan] 'you are a professional athlete, you are a footballer, and a class A footballer', so let's make sure this is a class A event if our purpose is to make a great final," Taghizadeh told Sky Sports.

"If our purpose is to play political games around it, that is something different, but I hope it is not, because you [Mkhitaryan] are being paid as a footballer, not as a politician, so let's leave other issues aside."

There are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan because of a longstanding conflict over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan usually does not allow foreign nationals of Armenian descent to enter the country.

While playing for Borussia Dortmund in 2015, Mkhitaryan did not travel for a Europa League tie against Azerbaijan Premier League side Gabala because of security concerns.

He also missed Arsenal's 3-0 Europa League win at FK Qarabag in October, with manager Unai Emery saying "he cannot travel here" despite Uefa offering their support over a visa application.

Armenian media reported that Anna Naghdalyan, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, said Azerbaijan had an "opportunity to show how real it is to prepare the people for peace".

"Manifestations of racism and xenophobia in sport should not take place," added Naghdalyan.

"In this regard, the refusal of Azerbaijan to provide such guarantees and a ban on the entry of alleged fans of Armenian origin is nothing but a new manifestation of racism, and this calls into question the holding of similar international events in Azerbaijan."

who plays better away from home would win this game.
arsenals's away record has been abysmal this year. especially in the europa league, losing to teams such as Bate Borisov & Rennes.
I think Chelsea will win. but it is a tight game and can go either way.

Chelsea’s N’Golo Kanté set to miss Europa League final with knee injury

Chelsea’s preparations for Wednesday’s Europa League final have endured another serious setback after N’Golo Kanté suffered a knee injury in training which is expected to rule him out of the showpiece in Baku.

Kanté is understood to have twisted the knee while making a challenge in a session on Saturday and departed the pitch in clear discomfort, with Chelsea’s medical staff due to assess the joint on Sunday afternoon to ascertain the gravity of the injury. However, their initial impressions are believed to have been far from promising.

The France midfielder had missed the previous two games after sustaining a hamstring injury in the victory over Watford this month but had recovered sufficiently to resume training at Cobham early last week. Maurizio Sarri was confident the World Cup winner would be fit to feature in the final against Arsenal, with Chelsea’s squad due to depart for Baku on Monday afternoon. Those hopes appear to have been dashed, leaving Sarri considering selecting a midfield trio of Ross Barkley, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic.

Kanté would become the fourth senior player ruled out of the final, with the other three in rehabilitation from long-term injuries. Antonio Rudiger suffered his own knee problems in the run-in and, having hobbled off after suffering a relapse in the draw at Manchester United, underwent surgery to repair the meniscus in the joint in his left leg.

Chelsea hope to have him available for pre-season, though that will come too soon for Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek, whose ruptured achilles tendons required operations. Both would have featured for England in next month’s Nations League in Portugal.

Hudson-Odoi, so impressive since breaking into the team, fell awkwardly during a home draw with Burnley in April, while Loftus-Cheek saw his best run of form in a Chelsea shirt interrupted after he suffered his own injury during the team’s appearance in a charity match in Boston after the conclusion of the Premier League season. “I’m sure he will be able to return stronger,” said Sarri of the midfielder. “I don’t know the timing because it’s very difficult to say now: four months to six months.”

The final could yet prove to be Sarri’s last game in charge, with uncertainty persisting over his future at the club amid interest from Juventus in luring him back to Serie A. He has struggled at times to implement his footballing philosophy over the course of a first campaign spent outside Italy, with Marcos Alonso having admitted the period of adaptation has been difficult at times. Sarri’s playing career was limited to the lower level and he worked in a bank before committing to coaching full time two decades ago.

“It’s not been easy,” said the full-back. “Managers are different and have different views on tactics. He wanted to change the way [we play]. It’s never easy in the first year, to come to a new country and new league, new football, new culture,” Alonso said. “It is many different things. The gaffer is still learning, too. He was not a football player either, so he is learning a lot this year. He is different, but, at the end of the day, we have to be professional and take on whatever he asks of us. We have worked hard at it and done a great job qualifying for the Champions League. It’s been a tough but good year, and now we have a massive chance to win a trophy.”

He'll be a very big miss. Probably their most important player after Hazard

London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal meet in an all-English Europa League final on Wednesday, 2,500 miles from home.

There is speculation that, win or lose in Baku's Olympic Stadium, it could be Blues boss Maurizio Sarri's final game in charge.

He refused to discuss reports linking him with Italian side Juventus on the eve of the final, saying: "I have a contract with Chelsea for two years.

"So, first of all I will speak with Chelsea but this is not the moment."\

Sarri has had a turbulent first campaign at Stamford Bridge, frequently questioning the mentality of his squad and having a public fall-out with Kepa Arrizabalaga during the Carabao Cup final.

But, as he reflected on the past 11 months, he suggested his feelings for his players will play a part if he does have a decision to make about his future.

"For me, at the beginning of the season it was really very difficult to understand my players, to understand the mentality," Sarri explained.

"But after a very difficult month in January, in February they started to change, I think. Or probably I changed - I don't know.

"In this moment, I love them because I have 20, 22 wonderful men, and wonderful players. So now I am really very happy with them.

"Of course, I have to consider it for the future, and I have to consider that I love English football and I love the Premier League."

Sarri, 60, has never won a major honour as a manager, while his Arsenal counterpart Unai Emery has won this competition three times with Sevilla between 2014 and 2016.

His current club has had rather less success on the continent, however.

While Chelsea won the Europa League in 2013, a year after their triumph in the Champions League, Arsenal have not clinched a European title since they won the now obsolete European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

Emery insists ending that 25-year wait is his first objective in Azerbaijan, despite the game also being his side's last chance of making next season's Champions League after a two-year absence - with qualification likely to significantly increase their summer transfer funds.

"There are two targets here but the most important target for us is to win a title," the Spaniard said on Tuesday.

"The second target is to help us to achieve the Champions League."

Emery does not feel the game means less to Chelsea because the Blues are already in the Champions League after finishing third in the Premier League table.

"Each title is very important for us, and for Chelsea too," Emery added. "We want to enjoy this moment, for our fans and also for ourselves. Chelsea will have the same idea."

Blues defender David Luiz agreed when he faced the media later on Tuesday, adding: "This competition is not about the Champions League.

"It is about a big trophy - everybody wants to win this competition when they start out in it, and we want a repeat of 2013, with a win."

There is last-minute work going on all over Baku ahead of the final, with workers planting flowers in fan parks and painting roads outside the airport the day before the game.

Chelsea are also leaving it late before deciding if France midfielder N'Golo Kante is fit enough to face the Gunners, after he suffered a knee injury on Saturday.

"It is not as serious injury but the problem is the timing," Sarri said. "He is 50-50 at the moment. We will try to recover him, but we don't know."

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi are already ruled out, and Kante's absence would leave Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Ross Barkley as Chelsea's only three fit midfielders.

"We are in trouble with the midfield," Sarri added. "At the moment we have only three midfielders for three positions.

"For us N'Golo is very, very important. He is the only defensive midfielder that we have so we are trying to recover him and we will try on Wednesday morning."

Arsenal are definitely without Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who decided not to play for security reasons because of a dispute between his country and Azerbaijan.

Injured midfielder Aaron Ramsey has already played his last match for the club before his summer move to Juventus but Emery must decide whether veteran goalkeeper Petr Cech will start against his former side in his final game before retirement.

"I want to tell the players the starting XI first, and I want to tell them on Wednesday," Emery explained.

"I speak about Petr a lot but above all he is a great man and a great professional. His behaviour in his year with us has been amazing.

"I want to do something important with him in his last match. This was my conversation with him - I told him 'I want to do something important with you in the last moment in you career, playing or not playing'."

Emery said reports that Cech, 37, will become Chelsea's sporting director in the summer will not influence his decision.

"He can start or not start, I have to decide, but he deserves trust because his career says to us he is a gentleman," he said.

"Really, how can we not believe in him?"

The build-up to the final has been overshadowed by the problems fans of both sides have had getting to Baku.

There could be as few as 5,000 Chelsea and Arsenal fans inside the 70,000-capacity stadium, with the rest of the crowd made up of locals, neutrals, sponsors and Uefa dignitaries.

"It is not in my hands," said Emery.

"They have arranged to play here and I must respect that decision. Of course, I would prefer it if a lot of supporters for us and Chelsea can come here, but it is difficult for them."

Sarri added: "I am really very disappointed. We do this job for this kind of match so we hope to see our fans here.

"I don't know what to say other than we will try to win, for us and also for them."

Unlike Chelsea, Arsenal have already released plans to hold a trophy parade - in Islington on Thursday - if they are the team who triumphs.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta said: "They have to plan for this, but hopefully we can ruin it. Our job is to play the game and to win the trophy.

"We didn't plan a parade but that doesn't mean we are not hungry and determined to win the trophy.

"We will give everything. It is the last game of a long season.

"When you have a trophy to play for in the middle, you get energy from everywhere and hopefully all together we can get our hands on it."

Yes their strikers have been very good this season but their defence has been very average overall. Chelsea are used to winning trophies and their players are far more expierenced in finals, so back them to win this one.
