The white ball team has genuine superstars in afridi and babar and some pretty skillful young players coming though.
The team played exciting cricket throughout the tournament and i genuinely believe they were the best team in the tournament.
This hurts but enjoyed watching these guys play and hopefully they continue to build on this.
Broke a 20 year old jinx in the process too.

Pakistan and England were the best sides in the tournament however that doesn't always win you tournaments.

Need to start playing dahani, wasim Jnr,Haider Ali in the xi

We 've won tournaments where we weren't even close to being the best. That's just how it goes but these guys fought fire with fire.
Fakhar hitting Starc for those monster sixes. This team has confidence about it.

Definitely just need to induct some players in the next series or two leading upto the world cup next year.

These guys have probably cemented their spots (LOI) for a long time:

Babar
Rizwan
Fakhar
Shaheen
Asif
Shadab
Imad
Rauf

Other positions have not been cemented yet.

That's the spirit! We should be behind this team 100%. This decade will be a resurgence.

So shocked at how negative all these threads are - good to see a positive one.

If you told any Pakistan fan that we would thrash India by 10 wickets and win all our matches until the semi final and lose with a fight against Australia we would have all taken it.

Problem with our fans is that we are never grateful and call for a player to be dropped after 1 bad series/tournament. Our team completely changes every 2 years. Need some stability now - back Babar and the boys. Insha Allah 2022 t20 WC is ours. If not we got 2023 WC aswell.

Totally agree with your sentiments.

It was a bitter pill losing but I shrugged it off within 1 hour.

How ? because I reflected overall that Pakistan done really well in this tournament, even today’s game they played well but fell short at the final hurdle.

Australia won a good toss but it wasn’t a critical factor if Pak just tightened their seam bowling and took all their chances be it run outs or catches but they didn’t. A good team will make you pay and they did.

I’m optimistic but sure it will be more harder for the younger fans to digest but I will say 20/20 is much easier to get over.

Surprised Hafeez and Shoaib haven't get opted to retire yet. Was expecting them to retire post tournament.

This is Pakistan cricket if Misbah got the chance to come out of retirement and play he would they just don’t know the word retire.

They have license to play another year now . As Malik got his first fifty in a World Cup event in 12 years against mighty Scotland and as Hafeez scored a nice little 30 against Namibia .

Yeah. As literally anyone with a brain predicted, Hafeez and Malik ultimately caused our downfall. We played with 9 players. They do literally nothing unless the opposition is ranked 7 or lower.

Hafeez should’ve retired after 2017 champions trophy

Malik should’ve retired in 2013.

Yet they keep coming back.

Thankfully the young blood looked very promising in this tournament and carried these 2 bozos hard.

Why are you shocked? Obviously we all care about Pakistan cricket, had a very realistic expectation to win because of how good this team is minus the old washed up losers, pretty normal to feel hurt and air out our negativity to lose in such a tragic fashion to the same team over decades in big tournaments.

But I can still acknowledge that the future is bright.

You can't blame them for this loss and Malik was phenomanal on the field, he's still one of Pakistan's best fielders at 39. Mans literally saved so many boundaries throwing his body around.

Team was handicapped

The 2 uncles in hafeez and malik who are way past their sell by date and need to retire

Hasan ali was never on song whether he's not fully fit who knows but he is a frustrating player he has good patches and then has lean patches where he just leaks runs

Fourth is the darter imad wasim with his big chicken thighs nawaz is a much better bowler fielder and batsmen than imad , pakistan may have missed the trick in not taking usman qadir who might have got more purchase in uae.

Also another big concern is our fast bowling bar shaheen who can lose the plot himself at times , we have no other world class bowler to partner shaheen.
Rauf and hasan blow hot and cold and the bench and domestic bowlers simply just don't look enough .

Also asif ali is another one , I knew when he faced Australia he would fail . He's simply not worth investing in the long term.

Hardly anything mentioned about the fielding here.
It's no co-incidence that the 2 teams in the final have excellent fielding.
Pakistan's fielding went to pieces under pressure-that was the difference. Had more than enough runs and had Australia pretty much done after warner got out.

I do think Pakistan will be very competitive in Asia but I cant see this team evolving into consistent threat away from Asia until they sort the fielding and playing under pressure.

We could’ve used a proper spinner over Hafeez who did nothing this tournament and simply bowled an over full of pies.

More than these guys I blame the selectors. They’re 40 with faded reflexes and ability. Why select them anyway. Could’ve had a quality spinner over any of these guys- since guess what we are in the UAE after all

Kinda minor but Malik is not the guy you send when you need a big hit in a few deliveries. Maybe if Imad or Shadab came out instead they could’ve hit a boundary in 2 balls which would make the difference.

True...no one expected Pakistan to play this well in this WC.

There are some issues to sort out but the future looks promising

I mean, after Misbah and Waqar were kicked in the rear end and thrown out of PCB, obviously the team would land in good hands.

Future may be in good hands but it is stuck in old ways thinking so even if we produce a team better than 99 WC team, outcome will still be the same no matter what. Even a school kid would tell you to substitute a spinner for Hasan Ali who did nothing this tournament... Spin is Australia's weakness, especially their lower order's and we gave them medium pacer (presumbly ill) Hasan Ali and handed them the match on a platter.

The team has a reasonable core to build around.

What they need is a quality death bowler and a world-class spinner that's reliable in different conditions. Always relying on Shadab, Imad, and a part-timer won't cut it.

A pacer like Umar Gul at his peak would have been a solid addition to this core.

This 'winning combination' theory doesn't work in World Cup for Pak, we need to make changes according to strength and weakness of the opppent.

E.g... Don't play extra spinners against India and don't play extra fast bowlers against Australia.

We could've choked Australia for runs after Warner got out but we let them get back into it because we had no quality spinner in the side besides Shadab

Australia fielding in the semi final was below average.
