KINGSTON – The Selection Panel of Cricket West Indies today named the Windies 13-man squad for Finolex Pipes T20 International against India.

The match will be played at Sabina Park on Sunday, July 9. First ball is 10:30 a.m. (11:30 a.m. Eastern Caribbean Time).

Experienced opening batsman Chris Gayle has been named in the squad. The left-hander is the highest run-maker for Windies in this format with 1 519 runs (average 35.32, strike rate 145.49), including two centuries. This will be his first T20 International at Sabina Park.

All-rounder Jason Holder is being rested for the match.

CWI chairman of selectors Courtney Browne welcomed Gayle back to the squad.

“He is the most prolific batsman in this format and will add value to our team at the top of the order. He will get the chance to play on his home ground and against a top-quality Indian team.

This squad has a good mix – experience within the batting and bowling – it is a well-balanced squad. Again, this is an opportunity for the young players to showcase their talent and for the experience players to perform and help nurture the young players,” he said. (PR/NB)

I feel Chris Gayle is past his best as evidenced from poor seasons in the IPL and the PSL.But good to see him back playing for the WI.

This guy can't buy a run anymore.. a HUGE step backwards. It's like Pakistan recalling Afridi for lack of better options. For Windies sake I hope he performs.

Will be an entertaining T20. Russel also returns.

Braithwaite, Narine, Badree and Samuel's too.

Should at least bring the crowds in. That in itself will be a result for the WI.

Sorry meant Pollard.

When will Russel return? How long for his ban to end?

Make a golden duck please as we don't want the Windies to install former decent players back in

I hope he comes good as he is entertaining to watch, but I feel his days are behind him as a cricketer. He has done nothing in the PSL of the IPL for that matter. He just seems to have lost it. I hope I am wrong because if he comes good he will definitely be fun to watch.

Hopefully he tonks India. What about Dwayne Bravo? Is he still injured? I can't imagine Sammy coming back after he slagged off the WI board. I love watching West Indies when they have the big 10 playing 1) Gayle 2) Sammy 3)Bravo 4) Russell 5) Pollard 6) Sammy 7) Narine 8) Russell 9) Badree 10) Samuels. Hopefully West Indies sort out their problems with their players

Kind of surprised at this selection. Thought West Indies were doing a great job on looking towards the future by bring fresh new players.

Gayle is waaay past it. He will only make himself look very bad.

Its tough on him but he should really retire now.

Why can't they pick the same batting line up for ODIs so that there is some hope at least. Dhoni is not going to play for them in every match.
