He's bowling beautifully in the CPL right now- seems to be enjoying the conditions.

Varies his pace well and has some very clever variations including a useful arm ball with which he dismissed Evan Lewis. He was also robbed of Gayle's wicket by the umpire.

He opened the bowling for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash and did a decent job.

He was signed for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 3 but didn't play- looks like they missed a trick.

Handy with the bat too...

He's been involved in PSL too.

Brilliant over at the death. Only went for three and picked up the wicket of Chapman. Has swung the momentum.

Was watching some CPL late last night and some women in the crowd saying she was going to propose to him :))

Yep.He was a part of the Lahore Qalandars-Sydney Thunder exchange program. He never played a game that season. The following season he was picked by Quetta Gladiators and played a few games.Didn’t do too bad.

As I mentioned in OP, he is yet to feature in the playing XI of a PSL side.

He even went to Pakistan for the qualifier but had to warm the bench.

I mixed him up with the fast bowler Ben Laughlin who played a few games for Quetta.

Seems to love pressure.

When pretty much everyone else is going at more than 10 an over, he returns with 2-19 from his four overs and in doing so helped his team defend 209. Particularly impressive given he bowled in PP- Shoaib Malik seems to trust him a lot!

Interestingly he seems to have developed a variation from the front of his hand- like a carrom ball- which he gets to turn away from the right hander. Got the wicket of Ross Taylor with it.

Still needs to improve his off-breaks, but his height and ever growing range of variations make him a very useful bowler.

Not test calibre.

Who said he was? He's a limited overs specialist.

Btw, would I be correct in assuming he is eligible for Australia (not sure how strict the requirements are with foreign-born players)? If so, with a bit of work he would be a much better prospect than Lyon in LOIs.

Moved over as a kid (I believe) and has Aus citizenship. Same boat as Khawaja.

He's definitely got a carrom ball- he's bowled it a few times this CPL.

Should get chance in Australia t20I squad in near future.

Reckon he will be picked up by a 3rd PSL team this year! If Shoaib Malik trusts him and he is ready to travel to Pakistan, he is an ideal player for Multan Sultans! Him and Imran Tahir together can cause some serious destruction

Wanted to see how he bowled on a slow, turning wicket and he showed tonight that he is an intelligent bowler and can adjust. He's not looking to dart it in, instead he's slowed it down and given the ball a chance to turn. Bowled beautifully- you'd be forgiven for thinking he was bowling in a test! 4-1-8-2 were his figures.

Lahore made him warm the bench during PSL2 for whole season and Quetta did same last season

Is he seriously captaining GAW in the final or is there something wrong with the scoreboard? mak36

He has been captain for the last two-three games or so.

Shoaib left and then I think they dropped Emrit so they made Chris Green captain.

Not bad for a player who wasn't even initially part of the tournament!

Yeah, was pretty surprised considering how inexperienced :hafeez he is.

Just checked. This is his fourth game in charge (two wins, one loss so far).

To be honest, I was very surprised by it. Came completely out of nowhere.

Surprised he wasn't picked by any of the PSL sides. He was part of the draft, and his stock has been rising given his recent performances so definitely a surprise.

I assume he was available for the whole tournament?

There's not much room for loyalty in the Twenty20 gun for hire world that Chris Green lives in. Pride in the jumper changes from month to month.

This year alone he has played for the Multan Sultans, the Toronto Nationals, Birmingham Bears and the Guyana Amazon Warriors. In the Pakistan Super League alone, he has played for three franchises in three years.

So when his Big Bash League team Sydney Thunder offered him job security in the form of a six-year contract Green jumped at it. Job security is hard to find on the T20 circuit.

"The nature of these franchise tournaments is there's no guarantees you'll be going to the same team or if the same team exists. They may change their name next year," Green said.

"For me to be playing for the same club for the next five years is something that's really special because of how much I love the club."

Twenty20 has not only changed the way cricket is played but also dramatically altered Green's career. Without it, he notes, he would be "grinding away in first grade, playing second XI [for NSW] and hoping for a state contract".

Instead, he is "living the dream", as he puts it, travelling the world playing the game he loves. He is speaking to The Sun-Herald from Abu Dhabi for the T10 League, a tournament also featuring former Australian star Shane Watson, South African great Hashim Amla and West Indies stars Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell and Darren Sammy.

It has also taken him, of all places, to non-traditional cricket nations like Canada the matted pitches of Norway.

As much as Green had wanted to visit the Scandinavian nation, he figured it would be one of those places he was unlikely to see if not for cricket.

"The fact cricket took me there was pretty awesome, it's one of those pinch yourself moments," Green said.

"I'm travelling the world playing the sport I love, going to different countries, seeing different cultures, learning about the game and how it's played by people from different backgrounds.

"My two dreams were to travel the world playing cricket and to play for Australia."

The second dream is not as far away as most cricket fans would think. Australia are due to play 15 Twenty20s leading into next year's World Cup at home. Green has been told by selector Trevor Hohns he is on their radar.

A spinner who can hit hard in the latter overs, Green is vying for the position currently filled by Ashton Agar, who impressed bowling in tandem with Adam Zampa in the series against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

While Agar may be the more accomplished all-form player, Green's BBL record compares favourably to his rival. He has taken more wickets (30 to 27), at a lower average (29.16 to 30.25) and a better economy rate (7.00 runs to 7.04).

There is more to T20 analytics than those numbers, of course, but at the very least they illustrate how Green should not be far off the mark.

"He [Hohns] said to me playing around the world and not being in Australia doesn't mean I'm not being considered," Green said. "They like the experience I bring. I have to keep pushing and putting my best performances because I know how well Ashton and Adam Zampa are doing.

"I have to keep putting solid and consistent performances to put them under pressure."

Statement from Cricket Australia: Chris Green

Sydney Thunder player Chris Green has been suspended from bowling after being found to have an illegal bowling action.

Green will be unable to bowl for a minimum of 90 days in Cricket Australia-run competitions, effective immediately. He will be permitted to play as a batter should the Thunder or Cricket NSW desire and can also play premier cricket (including bowl) under the supervision and with the consent of Cricket NSW during his suspension.

As a result of this suspension, Green has been withdrawn from the Thunder’s squad for tonight’s KFC Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Green was reported by umpires Nathan Johnstone, Mike Graham-Smith and third umpire Paul Wilson after the KFC BBL match between the Thunder and Stars at Sydney Showground Stadium on Thursday, January 2.

As per the Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Procedures, Green then underwent testing at the Bupa National Cricket Centre on Sunday, January 5, under the guidance of Dr Luke Kelly.

Results from the test were made available to Cricket Australia today, which showed Green to have an illegal bowling action. Both Green and the Thunder were informed of the decision.

After the 90-day suspension has elapsed, Green will be eligible to undergo testing once again with a view to returning to bowling.

Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations, said:

“We’d like to commend Chris and the Thunder for the way they have approached this process with complete cooperation and respect.

“Chris undertook testing at the earliest possible time and satisfactorily replicated his bowling action in the controlled environment.

“We look forward to working with Chris in the coming months and conducting further testing once the suspension period has elapsed.”1

Sydney Thunder coach Shane Bond says suspended bowler Chris Green is “gutted”, but the club will be with him every step along the way as he fights his way back from an illegal action.

On Wednesday the T20 specialist was handed a 90-day suspension for having an illegal bowling action.

The 26-year-old was reported by umpires Nathan Johnstone, Mike Graham-Smith and third umpire Paul Wilson after the BBL match between the Thunder and Stars at Sydney Showground Stadium on Thursday, January 2.

As per the Suspected Illegal Bowling Action Procedures, Green then underwent testing at the National Cricket Centre on Sunday, January 5, under the guidance of Dr Luke Kelly.

It was there that it was confirmed that Green’s action was illegal.

He will be unable to bowl for a minimum of 90 days in Cricket Australia-run competitions, effective immediately. He can, however, be selected as a batsman in the BBL, and can still bowl in Premier Cricket.

Former New Zealand fast bowler Bond said the overwhelming feeling was one of disappointment.

“I think today the word’s more gutted,” Bond said.

“We’re obviously gutted for Chris, the boys were gutted for him and now we’ve got some work to do to get him back ready to bowl again.

“He’s distraught as you can imagine. It’s not easy to go through what he’s going through at the moment.”

It’s the second time in three years that the Thunder has had a bowler suspended.

The Thunder had Arjun Nair also suspended for an illegal bowling action in January, 2018. Nair has since returned to the Thunder and played against the Stars during their six-wicket defeat on Wednesday night.

“We’ve obviously had Arjun go through the same thing, so there’s someone who understands him exactly,” Bond added.

“Look, we’ll give Chris some time to take stock. He’s still our vice-captain, still good enough to play as a batter, we’ll still have him around the environment, we’ve just got some work to do to get that action right.”

Bond added that the club were surprised by the findings, but backed the process by which it was conducted.

“Yeah it did (shock me),” Bond admitted.

“I’m all happy for any player who’s suspected of having an action to be illegal to be tested and so it’s very fair enough that anyone’s tested.

“I think what surprised us is when Chris went to the testing, the coaches went to the testing, we videoed it, it looked really good, so with the naked eye we thought, we were really confident he’d get through it, and it just goes to show how the naked eye doesn’t always tell the truth.”

Green has been a long-time member of the Thunder and took two wickets during their maiden title in 2015-16.

He recently signed a six-year deal to remain with the Thunder and was picked up in the IPL.

While Green could realistically feature in the competition, Bond said the priority was that his off-spinner took the necessary time out of the game to make sure he makes a successful return to bowling.

“Look, I hope not. But 90 days from now, it probably does (mean he’ll miss the IPL),” Bond said.

“You’ve just got to put that to the side and go, ‘ultimately, we just need to get Chris bowling with an action that’s legal and whatever competition that falls in line with, that’s what it is’.

“I think we need some coaching support around him. We need to work out what are the changes technically we need to make. After 90 (days) he can re-test to see where his action is sitting at, so we need to make sure that we take – whether it be 90 days, 100 days, 200 days – we need to get him to a point where we’re confident that he’s going to pass that test again.

“We’ll start that as soon Chris is ready and we’ve got the support around him to do it.”

Cricket’s administrators are hell bent on killing the art of off spin. You have to give some form leniency to off spinners. Not everyone is Nathan Lyon and it’s not like an off spinner’s action is a danger to a batsman’s physical security.

More like mentally week batsmen consistently crying to the ICC

Lol. The art of offspin can be mastered without resorting to throwing. Good on the Aussies for banning a chucker.

OP always gets hyper over average players. Asif Ali, Faheem and now this.

This chucker has no international future.

There has been talk Australia were considering him for the World T20 but don't see him being an option after this incident.

They never were lol this guy is utter garbage but I’m surprised he gets picked around leagues in the world despite he hasn’t even made a debut for Australia even in a t20. Australian selectors are very smart they can recognize good players and domestic bullies except in Mitchell marshes case there’s a lot of nepotism there we all know why. But anyways this guy will get smashed all over the park he’s a terrible bowler takes forever to bowl takes a huge pause before delivering he ball can’t turn the ball to save his life. His best ball is a darter he’s known for yorking the batsman in the poweprlay that doesn’t work against the likes of kohli Sharma guptill stokes butler he will get annihilated.

Green himself mentioned Australia selectors were keeping an eye on his progress.

Sydney Thunder star Chris Green has been cleared to bowl again, after passing the necessary tests and having his action deemed legal.

The 26-year old was banned from bowling during the BBL09 season for an illegal action, where it was found his elbow bent too much on his quicker balls.

Green was sent for testing to try and fix the problem, and on Wednesday morning the franchise released a statement saying he had been cleared.

"Sydney Thunder all-rounder Chris Green has been cleared to return to bowling following re-testing at the Bupa National Cricket Centre under the supervision of Dr Luke Kelly," it said.

"Green was re-tested on 16 June 2020, with his off-break and faster ball deliveries under review.

"The assessment revealed that his bowling action is now deemed legal, with all deliveries performed significantly below the allowable 15 degrees of elbow extension."

Green was forced to sit out the second half of the Big Bash tournament, but did play Sydney Grade Cricket as a batsman for Manly.

The off-spinner thanked the Thunder and Cricket NSW and believes he will be better for the process.

“To have to sit on the sidelines and not be able to play or help the team was really difficult...but at the same time, it was also a big factor of my motivation to get back to playing as quickly as possible," he said.

“I am very grateful for all the support from the Thunder and Cricket NSW coaches.

“I feel like I’m in peak physical condition, my batting is going really well and now I’m really excited to get back bowling competitively again.

“I just can’t wait to play again. I’m so excited to get back out on the field and repay the faith that has been shown in me the best way I know how – by putting out my best effort.”

Green has played 48 games for Thunder to date, and has taken 33 wickets and scored 351 runs at an average of 18.47.

The popular bowler re-signed with the Thunder for six seasons in November last year.

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that Australian off-spinning all-rounder Chris Green will no longer join Birmingham Bears squad for this year’s Vitality Blast tournament.

Green (26) was due to return as Bears captain for the 2020 Vitality Blast, but as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak and the delayed start to the season, recently appointed Club Captain Will Rhodes will now skipper in T20 cricket alongside his First Class and List A roles.

“All of the Cricket Management Team and players think the world of Chris,” said Bears Sport Director Paul Farbrace.

“Nobody should forget the commitment that he showed to the Bears last summer by coming into the side for our Vitality Blast home match with Notts Outlaws, within 24 hours after completing a match in the Global T20 Canada.

“These are unfortunate circumstances and sadly the impact of COVID is something that every cricket club and organisation is feeling.

“Chris is a true professional. His willingness to support the Club and his and way of dealing with this has been exemplary. We certainly hope that we can bring him back to Edgbaston as a Bear soon.”

T20 specialist Green is a long-term member of the Sydney Thunder squad in the Big Bash League in his native Australia and for Guyana Amazon Warriors in the Caribbean Premier League. He was also signed by Kolkota Knight Riders in the 2020 IPL auction.

The Australian joined the Bears in last year’s Vitality Blast, as a replacement for the injured Ashton Agar, and he went on to play the final six games of the tournament.
