Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Tuesday summoned Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf spokesperson Fawad Chaudhary to the Supreme Court to "witness" the proceedings of the Asma Rani murder case.

"He [Fawad Chaudhary] keeps criticising other people and says that the Khyber Pukhtunkhawa has an exemplary police force. Let's call him to court so that he witnesses how exemplary the KP police is," the chief justice said during Tuesday's hearing on the murder of the medical student.

"Have the phone records of the main suspect and his accomplice been recovered?" the chief justice.

The director general of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FIA) said that it has not been confirmed if the main suspect in the case is in Dubai or in Saudi Arabia. "It seems like this man planned this whole thing; he has an iqama from Dubai as well," he told the court.

"Have red warrants been sent out for the suspect? Can we send out the warrants?" the chief justice asked.

In the last hearing of the case, Justice Nisar had shown great dissatisfaction at how the case was being handled by the KP police.

"We heard tales that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has become a lot better; what is the force doing after this girl was murdered in Kohat?" the chief justice had asked in the previous hearing, while adding that there seems to be no mechanism set for the investigation.

Asma, a third-year student at a medical college in Abbottabad, was murdered after she refused to marry Mujahid, the prime suspect in the case, police said. She was rushed to the hospital after being shot three times on January 28, where she identified Mujahid and Sadiqullah as her assailants before succumbing to her injuries on January 29.

Soon after the murder, police claimed that Mujahid had escaped to Saudi Arabia. Sadiqullah, however, was arrested.

A third suspect in the case, Shahzeb, was arrested by the police on Saturday and was sent on a 14-day judicial remand by a judicial magistrate on February 4.

4-year-old's rape and murder
The chief justice expressed his dissatisfaction with the KP police for a second time on Tuesday while hearing the case regarding the grisly rape and murder of a 4-year-old girl, whose body was found in a sugarcane field in Mardan on January 14.

"Such a terrible thing was done to the child but there has been no development in the investigations," the chief justice remarked.

"We have not taken this suo motu notice for you but for the residents [of the province]," the chief justice told Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Salahuddin Mehsood, who was present in court for the hearing.

"It is the responsibility of the police to provide security," Chief Justice Nisar added, ordering the police to file a report in the case before the court within two weeks.

The court also directed the Punjab Forensic Science Laboratory to submit its report to the police as soon as possible.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until February 21.

Good to see accountability and being taken to task

If they are not doing their job then a valid criticism is justified and should be used as basis to improve. LegendInzi, do you think that the Punjab Police will ever stop being a private army for the Sharifs.

I dont think so but kP police have to improve more and deliver.though i stil think they have massively improved in PTI tenure ...and u did not replied there where i tag u..KMC forensic lab is going to be functional in few days.

That's how institutions improve, hold them accountable and force them to make further improvements. Yes KPK police has come a long way from where it was 4 years ago but the improvement process is ongoing.

Sorry i meant to reply- that was actually positive news and you hope that its helps to bring justice to ordinary citizens.

I dont know about you guys but Im highly disillusioned with the way things have gone in the last few months. i mean NS choar is going around the country like a beghairat and screaming. While Khan gets mired in personal issues. Why? Where is the PTI's movement? it was a vibrant movement only 18 months ago yet we seem to be on the backfoot at the mercy f these ghunday and their mafia. And the stupid public are lapping it up..

we constantly hear he's going to jail..but we have to be realistic he isnt..why isnt the PTI waking up?
How are things in Pakistan because Im here in the UK watching paksitan tv and the news and it looks pretty grim..

economic numbers were looking somewhat palatable in the last few years (not great still btw) since the global economy was booming and oil was hovering around $40 per barrel

recent price spike and maturity of Pakistan's debt issues has totally led the economy into the ground and the PM;-N govt werent prepared for it at all. Any dunce with a passing interest in economics would have predicted this 3 years ago and there was enough time to prepare

For some reason no one can break into pml-n stronghold in punjab. the folks there are literally slaves to them.

OP probably thought that he would post a news report about CJP criticizing KPK police and PTI government and the PTI supporters on PP will spew filth against CJP like the Nooras, but that back-fired in epic fashion. :)))

Good job by CJP, should keep KPK police on their toes. There is alot of pressure when you are the best police force in the country.

Everyone talked about this years ago but they were told to shut up as tajarba kaar siyastdaan were at work..I mean NS is a stupid illiterate surrounded by illiterates. he comes over to England to enjoy the NHS. Does he even question how such institutions come into being? has he bothered to arrange meetings with key individuals to see if such a system could be setup in Pakistan? I'm totally disillusioned with this lot now. The way they have permeated every starnd of punjabi society with their corruption. i mean in some places you cant even sell land without the land mafia getting involved. All with the blessing of the PMLN. I know of individuals who are part of the gullu butt gangs and land mafia. They are horrible khatarnaak people..I despair..

Unfortunately for us, there are more illiterates in Pakistan than literates.... so Noon league will again form government.

and this is where I feel the PTI have somewhat fallen down. They need to find a way to break this illiterate dihaat stronghold. but how? They tried giving a ticket to an honest man in my parents constituency and he lost because the PMLN got a ghunda to stand opposite him and they messed around with all sorts of rules and rigging etc..
