Confusing reports on Bangladesh players' willingness to tour Pakistan

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan Papon has informed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are more interested in hosting the Test series rather than the Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh.
"We have told PCB that we want to play three T20I's and then come back and then decide on the Tests. But they are more interested in hosting the Test series as part of the Test Championship," Nazmul said to the media at a press conference on Wednesday.
The BCB wanted to know if the players were willing to tour Pakistan and senior player Mushfiqur Rahim has expressed his desire to not tour; other senior players have also expressed a similar stance according to the board president.
"Mushfiqur Rahim has not shown keen interest in wanting to tour Pakistan along with some other players. We told PCB that and in reply they said that Bangladeshi players came here to play in the PSL for 35 days and they needed to stay here longer. So if there wasn't a problem then, why is there a problem now," Nazmul added.
Nazmul did express that the official decision on whether Bangladesh would tour Pakistan and how that would be would be made by Thursday.
"By tomorrow, we can come to a decision. We have spoken to agencies and the security is good from what we have seen. But most of the coaching staff aren't willing to go although the head coach is okay to travel for the T20I's."
Nazmul also added that he would be willing to see if the PCB were willing to see if they agree to hosting one Test initially instead of the T20I's: "Hosting one Test would be a good idea since they are interested in the Tests more and it would also mean the players have to stay there for a lesser time."
The BCB chief explained that staying in Pakistan under "high security and in that environment for a prolonged period was something that the players were against" and that is the main issue here.

Looks like they are making up excuses now, earlier it was the entire coaching staff, now staff minus head coach. If an individual Rahim has a problem he can very well drop out, but Papon is using that excuse to withdraw the whole series.

While uncertainty still looms over Bangladesh’s tour of Pakistan, the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB’s) outlook may be changing after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) communicated that they were keen to host Bangladesh for the Test series first with the T20Is rescheduled for a later date.
BCB President Nazmul Hassan informed reporters yesterday about PCB’s stance of prioritising the Test series.
“A full series was scheduled and we previously let them know that the team wants to play the T20 series and we were discussing the possibility of whether the Test series could be rescheduled for a later time.
“They [PCB] are more interested in the Tests since it’s the [World] Test Championship of the ICC. They have informed that Tests are more important and it would not be difficult to reschedule the T20 series for a later date,” Hassan said.
Bangladesh were originally scheduled to play three T20Is and two Tests in Pakistan in January-February 2020 but the BCB had communicated that they did not want to play both series on one tour and wanted to play only the T20Is.
The BCB president had later thrown the tour into doubt when he said that they were only going to go to Pakistan if they could form a side of considerable strength, adding that many of the players and management personnel did not want to tour Pakistan for a longer period and preferred a short tour.
A T20 series would take a week to complete but a two-match Test series would have to be spread over two weeks. After PCB’s latest communication of intent, the ball is in BCB’s court and Hassan said that a decision will be given today.
The president once again met with a few senior players yesterday in order to update them on the scenario. A number of players have reportedly already consented for the tour.
“We have gotten the reports from [government] agencies concerned and some discussions are left but my understanding is that we will be able to reach a decision tomorrow.
“Mushfiqur did not show any interest to go from the very first moment. The other players wanted a short tour,” he said.
“We haven’t taken a decision yet and we let all the players know today [Wednesday] and we are hoping that we will be able to make a decision tomorrow [Thursday],” he said, before adding that a one-off Test series works in BCB’s favour since the duration of the tour will not become an issue.
The ongoing World Test Championship – for which series of two Tests is a minimum -- was still a concern since not playing the series could mean losing points.
“We have to see what will happen if we go or if we don’t. Our concern right now is what will happen in case we don’t go. We’re not clear since the Test Championship is ICC’s.”

We all know they are rubbish in test anyway, they hardly get invited by any decent team out there. What boggles me is that they are getting to act pricey with PCB & may actually get away with it as well!

From above it seems that there is some worry from BCB about losing points in WTC which means that ICC could award points to Pakistan if Bangladesh dont go?

Bangladesh are that poor in test cricket they should in reality should have there test status revoked.
My only question is what is the justification for any foreign team not to tour?
1) PSL games held successfully in 2019
2) SL T20 and Tests held without incident
3) Intl security experts have given clearance
4) All statistics related to any terrorism violence have been trending down for many years, and are now comparable to any country in our neighbourhood.
5) Reputable publications like Conde Nast and Forbes are putting Pakistan on their travel recommendations, they would surely not be doing this if they were uncomfortable about security risks.
There are no certainties in life but clearly from a logical point of view there is little justification in any country saying no right now.

I honestly think playing the LOI series and then coming back for tests within a 12 month period is a sensible option.
Let’s think about this.
If England Australia or New Zealand proposed this we would be jumping for joy.

Pakistan cricket wins no friends by acting in a stubborn and narrow minded way. The whole cricket world understands and sympathises with our predicament but a full test tour can’t be taken lightly.
We should recognise that small steps inching forward building on previous successes is the best way to re establish ourselves in world cricket. Build solid foundations and better organise our own home venues and security environment in the best way we can and the teams will come. No need to rush this. After years I finally got to see a Pakistan stadium and crowd on the tv screen and honestly even our own attendance and quality of stadiums was woeful.

PCB want to play the Tests first because we have less Tests scheduled as it is.
According to the latest rumours, it looks likely that the two Tests may be played during this tour with the T20Is scheduled for later in the year before the T20 World Cup.
Ditch these guys. I don't know why PCB is trusting them and getting hopes high. Don't expect any dignified independent decisions from these cowards. It's their loss. PCB should organise short England or NZ tour instead. Shouldn't be an issue.

Pakistan are playing 6-8 test a year max and then we get messed about like this by BCB, already under the FTP the number of tests pakistan is playing is low and being messed around here, having to changed schedules etc.. doesnt help.

Moving series to different locations all the time is a massive pain for the PCB, Also the issue with UAE was also the availability to have the venues to play cricket. cant be in a scenario where pakistan has to change its cricket calender because teams want to trial things out and play other bits of cricket later, massive waste of time, energy and financial resources.

PCB allowing for a bad prescetand to be set here trying to sort this series, we cant have a mess like this everytime pakistan are due to host a series. BCB delibrately dragging it out so that there isnt enough time to play the series.

The fact of the matter is PCB needs BCB, plain and simple. A successful tour by SL, and PSL being Pakistan will not convince England and Australia to tour Pakistan before 2030. And a lot can happen in 10 years to further erode those chances. Even a team like NZ or SA won't be convinced to tour Pakistan and those countries will be even more financially unattractive than BD team. BD team will at least bring their own companies in as sponsors, what will NZ and SA do?
BCB may be in the wrong in this particular case, but PCB are no angels either. Lets not forget PCB cancelled a tour of BD not so long ago, in addition to asking for and receiving half of the revenue from the 2015 series in Bangladesh.
Ultimately, I hope the Test series goes through whether in Pakistan or at a neutral venue - provided the security is up to par. But with Shakib banned, Mushfiq opting out, and Mosaddek's mother's illness, BD will probably have no choice but to send a 2nd string side for this series.

A nobody who has played himself into a decent cricketer because Bangladesh could not produce anyone better over the years giving it as if he is MS Dhoni or something.

I agree with you for the most part - It's more of my frustration with PCB due to years of mismanagement. It is also mind-boggling on the lack of support PCB has from BCB and most other boards.

He's more than a decent cricketer. Did well at the last 2 world cups, and has scored runs all over the world with a better average overseas than at home. Tamim and Shakib have pretty exemplary records too, so dunno where the "couldn't produce anyone better" line is coming from. He's right around the 4th best WK-batsman in the world right now behind Bairstow/Buttler, and Watling.
While disappointing, his refusal to tour may be on personal grounds. We don't know the full story.
Why do you assume England, Australia, SA and NZ won't tour if BD doesn't tour? I've heard that theory many times. Each board makes their decisions independently of what other teams do. If PCB agrees to host BD on neutral territory, then it gives those teams an excuse. If PCB doesn't do that, I think they have just as good a shot of hosting those teams. Hosting PSL successfully would be a far bigger deal, given the number of players and the number of games involved.

Yet, somehow, 'most' are reluctant.

Pakistan is desperate. India is playing more test cricket in 2 months than Pakistan does in a whole year. No wonder Pakistan test ranking is so low. Without proper amount of test cricket, Pakistan will only get worse and worse.

And Mashrafe, who has already retired from Tests and T20Is, was asked if he would consider touring Pakistan in such situations. The 36-year-old pacer said that, had he been in the squad, he would have toured Pakistan after consulting with his family.
“To be honest if you ask me, I would have gone but obviously I would have consulted with my family. I don’t know what my family would have said as this would be the first time I would discuss this matter. But if you only ask me about going to Pakistan or not, I would say yes, I would go. May be but not sure as it depends on my family too,” said Dhaka Platoon skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza after their 11-run defeat against Rangpur Rangers during their Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BBPL) encounter in Mirpur today.

Bangaldesh is not safer than Pakistan, they are both 3rd world dangerous countries just like all the others.
Pakistan is a nicer country than Bangladesh in every way so I do not understand this mentality. You are not Tom from Sussex, get over yourselves.

Saifuddin had been suffering from back pain for quite a while. The all-rounder was forced to sit out the World Cup match against Australia last year, Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka and the three-match T20I series in India last October due to the injury.
“We did a scan and the report was good. We have already started his rehabilitation from today [yesterday]. We will assess his healing process and monitor his work loads. His injury was aggravated mainly for technical reasons like his bowling action. We are hopeful and are looking to prepare him for the upcoming Pakistan tour,” Debashish told The Daily Star yesterday.

I honestly feel BD won't come. This is the reason why they're just delaying as they're preparing a well crafted excuse. That's all I think is the reason behind the delay in decision.
I hope Bangladesh doesn't hide behind recent Quetta terrorist attack. I know it happened in Balochistan but they can hide behind the excuse that Pakistan isn't safe and anything can happen. PCB should just host it in UAE. It has great grounds to be honest.

If BCB decline the tour this time, it will damage their relations with Pakistan in a huge, huge way. They have led PCB down this path many times before, and I won't be surprised if PCB completely shuts them out going forward.
BCB may not think much of it right now because PCB is not a powerful body at this time, but this attitude they've shown over the last several weeks will come back to bite them really, really hard.

Boards like India, NZ, Australia, Eng or S Africa has strong administration with professional people in top place and others cannot play game with them like this.

BCB need PCB as much as PCB needs BCB. This is the reason why they are thinking thoroughly before making any bog decisions.
smaller boards like SL, BCB and PCB have to keep their relationships together as bigger fishes are not going to care about them in the coming future. Aus cancelled their tour to BD hiding behind security when everyone knows they don't give them much of importance.
PCB has shown a good will by allowing their players to participate in BPL despite cancelling their NOCs for T10. They could have done same for this league but they didn't as they want to improve their relationships with the BCB.
This could definitely be a make or a break between PCB and BCB.
I think BCB will announce they want to tour for T20Is and reluctant for tests and eventually PCB will host them for T20Is and let them feel about security and later inviting for tests.
Whether the tour goes ahead or not, the cat and mouse games played by BCB have been less than impressive and highly unprofessional. I'd be worried if I was a Bangladesh fan that such people are running cricket in their country.

Why will PCB care about BCB? They never did in the past when cancelling their own trip to Dhaka at the last minute.
Large boards will always need smaller boards for voting to get something through and also to make money by inviting them home and bashing them. PCB can provide neither.
I hope BCB agrees to visit Pak for tests. It just makes cricketing sense and benefits both boards and also all cricket fans.

Reports indicate that official announcement will come tomorrow, although BCB will decide today in their meeting and communicate the decision to PCB as well.

In last 4 years, India, England, Australia, SL, WI, NZ have all played tests against Bangladesh. Cricinfo Statsguru!

That’s why I said, BCB will hopefully be a lot nicer than PCB and should agree for the test matches Karachi/Lahore. But No one should be surprised if they won’t.

Have bangladesh cried off and cancelled yet? So boring this whole farce and time for PCB to move on.
Among all countries, Pakistan has played minimum tests against BD since the latter got test status. It’s not shaded because Pak is the only country that has not played a single test against BD in the last 4 years.
This, along with the fact that Mr Mani was against giving test status to BCB, does not give credibility to the claim that PCB has done a lot for BCB, so the latter should reciprocate.
If you have so much hatred so much against Pakistan why are you in this forum with our player's name?
Your India played only 1 extra test considering there were few series cancelled due to BD's political interference with present government.

Ind won't be playing them until Nov 2022 and Aus already cancelled their FTP series later this year. Eng, NZ as well know invite them for 1-2 tests and 2-3 T20Is once in 4 years.
PCT gets good amount of FTP and the rest of missing calender they can fill up by making PSL bigger and inviting Ireland or Zimbabwe instead of BD. BD's quality as a team is not that great which is why PCB could replace them with another team from the bottom of table. but I am sure it will affect BCB if PCB cancels their tour of BD as well like Aus.
if BCB do ditch PCB this time then no one can blame PCB for not taking them seriously in the future. This time PCB did show good will by allowing players to take part in BPL and the reason why BPL is televised to 22 million people in Pakistan is because of some players taking part otherwise nobody would even follow it.
Also BCB's action will alsi justify the likes of Aus ditching them hiding behind security.

[Babbar is a common name (Raj Babbar, Aryan Babbar etc) where I am from ( Punjab, Firozepur ). Babbar (not Babar) is also a common term of endearment ((mera babbar sher) for boys. It may be same in Pakistan Punjab also. Nothing to do with Babar or Humayun.

so in 19 years India played them 11 times while Pakistan played them 10 times in 15 years and you didn't even mentioned the amount of matches missed due to their PM refusing to host us. Also Aus playing them only 6 games further validates my point.
It's an open fact that BCCI gave them some cricket only because they wanted them to keep quiet and happy for not playing with Pakistan. if I am not wrong BD team played their first home test match against Ind in years. Also Ind won't br playing then for another 3 years. They treat them like a true minnow team. It's PCB that gives them royal treatment and yet they don't pay it back.

If BD would have come for the tour then the number would have been more than Ind, Eng and equivalent to SA. So this isnt the right time to bring out a stat when actually a series was supposed to happen to raise that number.
You have missed 6 tests vs Aus which is the minimum number here.
