What's new

Congratulations India on winning their 8th Asia Cup title

I don't think Asia cup is important. The only important tournaments in the world are world cup and champions trophy.. and India lost in WC SF and CT final..

The world respects champions of global tournament .. no one cares about Asia cup.

What world? 10 teams lol and most fans are of Asia anyways.

Shastri is not a coach but CHO - Chief Happiness Officer.

His job is to keep players happy!

If the Champions Trophy was so important than it wouldn't have been scrapped. :ashwin

Asia Cup, on the other hand has been happening since 1984.

:)) Champions Trophy was on the verge of being scrapped since 2006. Such a prestigious tournament that the ICC was thinking of scrapping it since the last 12 years, and finally did it last year.

It is hilarious.. do we ever credit MS Dhoni for winning the Asia cup ? His captaincy career is glittered with trophies and CT 2013 is highlighted as his major achievement.

ICC is trying to scrap it due to some other reasons.. probably to keep only one global tournament in the form of WC.

It doesn't mean the teams taking part in CT take it less seriously.. do you imagine Kohli taking "rest" for CT ?

90 percent of cricket fans are from Asia. Very few from rest of the world care anyway

Really? Until now we Indians believed that the 2011 World Cup was his major achievement. Thanks for enlightening us.

Can you imagine Kohli taking "rest" for WC or CT like he did for Asia cup ? Asia cup was so insignificant that last time they converted it into T20.

Please don't change the topic. You said that 2013 CT is Dhoni's captaincy highlight. We Indians don't even deem that tournament victory anything significant to cherish.

Asia Cup is irrelevant, and so was Champions Trophy. And that's because it was a B class tournament for which ICC was mulling to scrap it since 2006.

Interesting times ahead.

Rohit's PR team is in full flow glorifying how great a captain he is going by the numerous media articles and support from ex-legends like Gavaskar and Dada.

So far Kohli-Rohit have not really been rivals but in the days things could come to a head.

Rohit's brother-in-law Bunty Sajdeh is the best sports management agent in India (has managed Kohli as well but perhaps they have parted ways and Anushka's agent works for Kohli now), we are likely to see a proper campaign on social media.

I am not changing the topic.. I mentioned Kohli point in my first post itself. You probably missed that part.

Indians were very happy and Ravi Ashwin even considers CT 2013 final as one of the best moments of his career..

My question is what coaching credentials does he have?

To be fair to the Shastri bot, he has stepped in when needed for Indian cricket. He was the tour manager for us immediately after the 2007 WC debacle. And then he was the team director for two years when Duncan Fletcher was the coach. Prior to that he has also served as the Director at NCA managing a bunch of coaches. So he's been closely involved with Indian cricket

What goes against him is his overtly aggressive persona and the big boasting words he uses. He has appointed yes men as specialist coaches (Bangar, Arun and Sriram). Impression is no professional coach wants to work with him which is harming his own reputation despite good results which could have been better with inputs from more qualified specialist coaches.

"Stepped in when needed" is like saying he took up a well paying glamorous job in the name of a noble cause.

Not really. Immediately after 2007 WC, with Chappel sacked and fans going ballistic, he had the option of not getting involved.

Likewise, in 2014 , after the England Test series thrashing, with Joe Dawes and Trevor Penny sacked mid way into the series, to step into the Director's role was not really a 'glamorous job'.

Flabbergasted to realise that Shastri has fans. Not sure whether to get depressed or frustrated.

Was he doing it for free?

Exactly. He wasn't doing any charity. Just read somewhere that he is getting paid 2 crores something for 3 months. I don't think he has made that much money while playing cricket for india?

Dude not just that he makes 2 cr per quarter, he gets that entire money in advance. Ever heard of a job where you get paid 3 months in advance? So much so for sacrifices he's making!

You mean he had the option to decline a well paying job offer? Of course he had that option but he didn't excercise that and instead decided to take up a well paying job. How exactly does that make it any kind of sacrifice? If someone gets a good job offer, and he accepts that then really it's not a sacrifice of any kind, nor it's a sin. Most people evaluate the risk reward proposition of an offer and decide whether or not to say yes, simple.

Stop these rubbish. All tournaments are important. As afg and bd becoming more competitive asia cup becomes more exciting. Almost 175 million viewer is something.

Unless you think white-people blood and bones are somehow superior to brown-people blood and bones, I don't see how it's "blasphemous" to compare fitness standards.

I am comparing fitness levels, not cricketing skills. And you are just trolling without actually engaging in any meaningful debate. So I'm gonna bow out of this nonsense. Goodbye.

Lol it's not about white people. Jadhav has always been a bit injury prone and at his age , it's not gonna get better.

.... Unless the win was a fluke validated by losing to a minnow.

Great performances by Ind, head and shoulders above the others. Its their WC to lose.

Kyon bewal... sorry bawal, kar rahe ho, bhai. India is nowhere near being called one of the favourites for WC. The Pak team that played the Asia Cup is better equipped. However, I agree that the problems in Indian LOI setup are all self-manufactured by Indian selection committee and management.

This is the weakest Indian team in years, especially the batting so it's surprising that we won convincingly. The quality of cricket in Asia has come down considerably, only Afg is an exception.

On the verge of winning the 8th Asian title and extending their lead over Lankans (6 titles) and Pakistan ((2 titles)
