Hearty Congratulations Bangladesh - first test win in a SENA country.

I am genuinely ecstatic for Bangladesh fans and its team on their first ever Test win in New Zealand. And let's just remember this was a win in test cricket - cricket's premier format - not in a T20 or ODI where elements of luck can sometimes determine the result. Bangladesh essentially dominated for the kiwi's for most of the test match.

I cannot think of a single cricket fan - including even the most ardent of Bangladesh supporters - anticipating a Bangla win before the test began. This is why we love this sport - truly a game of glorious uncertainties.

This is such a shot in the arm for world cricket's health. A country of 180 million - mad for cricket having a strong team can only be good news for all of us cricket lovers.

Enjoy this moment Bangladesh. You truly deserve to celebrate this - especially given how other major countries have recently struggled to compete in New Zealand.

same here, its a good performance off the back of a lot of players contributions. hopefully they make it count and realise they have to produce pitches which support their seamers at home too.

They wont become world beaters over night, but if everything comes right they show they can compete, and a lot of people including me, were questioning whether or not they should be.

Congratulations to Bangladesh for registering their 1st ever Test match win in SENA

Remarkable performance from Bangladesh, beating the reigning world Test champions in their backyard and in the process also registering their 1st ever test match win in SENA countries. Make no mistake, this is a landmark achievement for Bangladesh cricket

So my heartily congratulations to the Bangladesh cricket team and their fans. Enjoy this landmark win.

Congratulations Bangladesh — one of the all-time-great Test wins away from home — what a story!! :)

Also, it was a pretty one-sided match. Totally dominated NZ in their den.

It is a historic moment for all cricket fans. Loved seeing BD getting over the line here.

This kind of win may help in the long term. Cricket is 90% mental.

This is a historic day for Bangladesh cricket.

What an outstanding performance.

So happy for the underdog!

Is it their greatest victory? You bet. by a country mile. Thrashing "Test champions" in their own den comprehensively is better than beating Australia at home.

Congratulations to all Bangladesh fans.

And this should end the debate over their test status. Not just trolls but even genuine cricket lovers call for revoking their status which isn't the right mentality imo.

This is historical, the greatest cricket victory by BD cricket. Might change the direction of BD cricket for ever. Good for BD, good for cricket.

Superb performance. Well done and congrats to their supporters.

Wonder which one was a more surprise win. India reserves Vs Australia at the Gabba or this one.

One of the best things about this win is that they did it without Shakib.

This by far, not even comparable. This is Bangladesh who beat NZ in NZ. Bangladesh is the worst test side in the history of the game, by far. NZ were undefeated for 17 home tests before this

Thanks to all
This is the most important suggestion for our administrators. They may again seat back take the credit and continue to do nothing as they have done over the years

It is their biggest victory by a country mile.

Congratulations Bangladeshi fans, biggest day in their cricketing history!

Lots of surprise wins last few years - this one, SL win over SA in SA & Indian C team winning in Gabba. Augurs well for Test cricket.

100% best victory ever for Bangladesh and they really deserved this win! No fluke whatsoever. They outplayed NZ in every day of the Test

They have suffered a lot to get to this point

Bangladesh deserve it, last time they toured NZ in 2019 they almost got killed in Christchurch by a White nationalist militant.

Absolutely ecstatic for bangladeshi fans. Goes to show anything is possible if you work hard and believe in yourself.

Congratulations to all BD fans, live it up!
What a test of super domination by BD.
What I wold want to ask is if this team contained a few guys from the recent U-19 team that won the WC albeit it being an ODI tournament?
I guess you can expect a Green Mamba in the next outing.
Good luck BD and well done, cheers from an indian fan.

If I was NZ I would not prepare a green pitch for 2nd test. It will be shameful for NZ if they resort to a swinging pitch to beat BD in NZ

Make the same pitch as this test. Play better cricket than BD and win the match

Some of the guys were from the U19 team. Yes.

Shoriful and Joy both played in the last U19 World Cup (which BD won).

Yes 2 players. One opener and one pacer..I think mahmudul and shariful..they were part of the wc winning final

Congratulations! Bangladesh. Beating the test world champions in their own turf is truly stuff of dreams. Now go on and win the series, and that will establish you as a genuine test side for good. The cricketing world needs you to be.

Great work by BD and a day of pride for all of the team and their supporters.

Really impressive stuff. Congrats to BD fans and hope BD can build upon this memorable victory.

Records tumbled in Tauranga as Bangladesh dominated day five, claiming 12 vital World Test Championship points.

Bangladesh have completed arguably their finest ever Test win, defeating reigning World Test champions New Zealand at the Bay Oval, breaking the hosts' 17-match unbeaten streak at home.

Finishing with a second innings spell of 6/46, Ebadot Hossain was adjudged Player of the Match, as the tourists chased down a target of 40.

With a bowling average of 81.54 from 10 Tests coming into the match, Ebadot realised his potential in a rampage across the final two days, finishing with seven wickets for the match. Taskin Ahmed joined Ebadot in to bundle the hosts out for just 169 early in the day, finishing with 3/36.

New Zealand's batters had no answer for Bangladesh's canny reverse swing, with Ross Taylor (40), playing his final Test at the venue, providing the only resistance.

As Ebadot beat Taylor's defences to send New Zealand spiralling at 154/6, the hosts crumbled to be bowled out for just 169. Rachin Ravindra (16) was surrounded by four players to be dismissed for a duck. Bangladesh's bowlers were backed by a clinical fielding effort, as Shoriful Islam and sub-fielder Taijul Islam took stunning catches to all but seal Bangladesh's win - their first away Test win over a top-five ranked team and just their sixth victory abroad from 61 attempts.

Bangladesh made easy work of the 40 required in 16.5 overs to seal a historic win, in spite Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah.

Bangladesh had not previously won any of their 43 matches in New Zealand across all three formats, while the result also ends the Kiwis' eight-series home win streak that stretched back to 2017.

Records broken by Bangladesh

First win against New Zealand in New Zealand (in any format)
First Test win over New Zealand (16th attempt)
First Test win over a top-five ICC-ranked team away from home
6th win away from in 61 Tests
Ended New Zealand's eight-series winning run on home soil (2017-present)
Ended New Zealand's 17-match unbeaten run in home tests

Next match is in Hagley Oval which is a green track by nature.
Expect some more layers of the green grass on top.

Biggest upset™ in the history of Test cricket.

I mean how on earth can a team go from getting clean swept by West Indies C , Pakistan and Afghanistan at home to winning in the World Test champion's backyard?

If Bangladesh wins the toss, they can roll them over and set up a series win. NZ goin with a green mamba is a big gamble.

Wow! I haven't been following this series, but just saw these headlines. Amazing by Bangladesh, this is a huge victory for them. It must be their greatest test win.
How did they do it? We were terrible in our last test series there. NZ had outbatted and outbowled us.

It was a bit slower wicket compared to the typical NZ one and Bangla bowlers were able to exploit reverse swing on this wicket when no NZ bowler could. Didnt help either that Southee & Jamieson were totally offcolor.

Congratulations to B'Desh. Absolutely chuffed for them, they deserve this fan to keep the interest and belief in Test Cricket going.

Congratulations to Bangladesh cricket and their fans for this historic win. This is not a fluke but a proper test match performance against world champions. Hopefully this is just a start 👌

Terrific from Desh! Congratulations dear friends. Excellent work!

MMHS Mainul Executioner any other Bangabandhus i've missed out on, apologies. Congrats to you guys on a historic test win away from home. Hopefully you keep your head and seal it in the next game. Patience does get rewarded eventually.

Congratulations to Bangladesh. Well Deserved. India and Pakistan have lost misrably on their last tour to NZL but Bangladesh have won a test and who knows are in contention to win the series as well.

Great performance by Bangladesh! Very good for cricket... But on a side note I never heard of the venue for this match before. First I thought it is played in Bangladesh or Nepal Himalayan regions (Mount Maunganui) but later realized that it is in NZ and it is away win for Bangladesh. Somehow Bangladesh has some hold over NZ and strangely India struggle against NZ mostly!

Congrats BD.. next time we tour NZ we should take couple of BD bats with us, they know how to score big there ;)

Pleased for Bangladesh, i hope its not another flash in the pan moment and they build over this. For NZland, an absolute shocker and their fans should be rightly disgusted at this.

Huge victory for BD. Pakistan and India can only dream of it going by their recent performances in NZ. Congrats to Bengla posters on PP. Ebadot seems like a great addition to BD bowling unit.

Sensational victory by Bangladesh. Absolutely thrashed Test champions in their own backyard. Credit where it’s due, their much criticized pace bowling destroyed a much vaunted batting line-up at home.

Congratulations once again to all Bangladesh fans. Hope you seal the series in the next game, well deserved.

If BD can manage to win the series, that will go down as the greatest upset in test history, bigger than India-Aus 2020-21.

This could be a historic victory for Bangladesh. Let's see if they can build on it.

What a happy happy day. Genuinely delighted for Bangladesh. They showed some fight in patches vs Pakistan but here, did not put a foot wrong.

May they go places from here. Congratulations to all Bangladesh fans.

Incredible win by Bangladesh. No one expected it; especially after the way they got hammered against Pakistan at home last month and the fact that their side was full of inexperienced players while missing Shakib and Tamim. Needless to say I was one of the biggest critics. But they proved me and everyone else wrong.

For me it is easily one of the biggest upsets in the history of test cricket when you consider the fact that New Zealand are ranked #2, won the ICC Test Championship and haven't lost a test match at home since 2017. The last time they lost a test match to an Asian side was Pakistan back in 2011.

While Bangladesh are at the bottom of the table and haven't put up a credible test performance in quite some time.

Take a bow Bangladesh, you've definitely earned it.

Congrats Bangladesh. This has to be one of the biggest upsets ever in the sport

Bangladesh win against Newzealand is special.

In the last 10 years only south africa and australia had managed to win in NZ , no other team had managed to win even a single test match in NZ.

Ma sha Allah! Congratulations to all BD brothers here. Amazing win! Hopefully they can go on and win the series IA, that would be some achievement!

Win the series now Inshallah. So happy about this. Congrats to BD posters who are active here.

Fully deserved win, they applied themselves with the bat for 2 days (this after there shambolic batting vs pakistan in last series) and their pacers were excellent.

cricket needs more wins like this for bangladesh and other smaller test sides.

Congrats to Bangladesh. I personally thought they would choke as its something they have done frequently in their history but credit to them a test win overseas is a special achievement. Hopefully they can build on that and clinch the series.

Not just their greatest victory but perhaps the greatest overseas victory in the history of the game.

Given the position of both teams prior to the match I don't think even Athar Ali Khan could have predicted this.

Congratulations Bangladesh fans. Beating the champions in their backyard is very special, here's to more such performances.

Congrats to old colleagues MMHS and Ashraful_Rox it's been a long time coming. Great performance from the tigers and hopefully this will make them more resilient and will improve their young players..Great historic win.

With regards to NZ they took this lightly. They are a couple of defeats away from becoming mediocre again. Southee close to retirement. Boult looking long in the tooth. Jamieson is good but tall bowlers are notorious for injuries. Batting other than Williamson and Conway looks ordinary..they could face a difficult few years..

Thanks mate. As a Bangladeshi now I feel pressure whether our boys can meet the expectations in next test or not :wa
