Prime Minister Imran Khan has announced the formation of a youth force titled 'Corona Relief Tigers' to help in the government's response to the spread of the coronavirus.

He said members of the force will be distributed across the country and they will be used to supply food items to people in their houses in case Covid-19 cases sharply rise in a locality.

The registrations for the force will begin from March 31.

They are only meant to provide ration to poor people not go in hospitals and assist medical staff.

I like the Jazba.

IK needs people who are sincere to work with him.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday announced the launch of a youth force labelled "corona relief tigers" which will lead the fight against the coronavirus in Pakistan.

"Recruitment for corona relief tigers will formally begin on March 31. We are calling upon all volunteers," said the premier during a special briefing to the media.

Noting that the virus has spread dramatically across the globe, with the United States emerging as the new epicentre, the premier said: "No one can say today what the situation will be two weeks down the line."

"That's why we have to be prepared for the worst case scenario (in Pakistan) in case the number of cases spike," he said.

Referring to President Alvi's visit to China during which he was accompanied by Asad Umar and Foreign Mininster Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the premier said that the Pakistani delegation asked China how they controlled the situation at a time when there were close to 60,000 cases in Wuhan.

"It is important to note that when they enforced a lockdown, they delivered food to people's homes."

He said that Pakistani students recalled that the government would send supplies straight to their hostels.

"In Pakistan, this is a tall order. Today, if we want to lockdown, we don't have the infrastructure to get food to people's homes.

"So I am announcing today, we are developing a special youth force. Preparations for this are in full swing. We will have a membership drive with the citizen's portal," said PM Imran.

He reminded everyone that "we have the world's second largest youth population" which is a great source of strength for the nation.

"The corona relief tigers will be sent all over Pakistan. We will map out where there is a spike in cases and these tigers will be sent to those areas to deliver essential supplies."

'Prime minister's corona fund'

The prime minister said that in the coming week, a 'corona fund' will also be announced, which will welcome charitable donations so that the underpriveleged can be looked after.

"Data on our daily wagers is being collected. We will also dispense funds from the Ehsas programme and then this fund will be an added source to help people buy essential items for their families."

Labelling this an unprecedented initiative and putting stock in people's charitable spirits, the prime minister said that Pakistanis donate like no other nation in the world. He recalled earthquakes and floods which had wreaked much damage in the country but put no dent in people's willingness to help.

"But what happened was there was a duplication of services. There were areas where there was a great amount of work done and some in which there was no one and people were left hungry," said PM Imran.

He said with the use of information technology and the Ehsas initiative, everyone who wishes to donate will be registered and will be able to see which areas need the most assistance.

"Everyone will know who is doing what and where."

SBP account for overseas Pakistanis

The premier acknowledged that in the backdrop of the crisis, Pakistan will see a drop in remittances and foreign exchange reserves will be impacted.

To counter this, he said an account will be opened in State Bank of Pakistan, for which details will be provided on Monday or Tuesday.

"Right now, the Pakistani people are most in need of donations from abroad. I want overseas Pakistanis to deposit their money here so pressure from our foreign exchange reserves is relieved," said the prime minister.

"This will be the fund that will pull the country out from these difficult times."

'Food not short, supply a problem'

The premier then addressed the matter of a shortage of food items, especially wheat, clarifying that there is only the problem of transporting it due to lockdowns.

Federal Minister for Food Security Khusro Bakhtiar then provided "an exact picture" of the situation.

He said that tabulations for seven essential food items had been done to ascertain their stock across various districts.

"Where there is a shortage, the province will fulfil the demand. We have mapped out the country's transport needs for this."

He said that there had been a run on wheat due to the lockdowns and then there had been wheat procurement which Sindh and Passco (Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation) had undertaken.

"Provinces are completing their targets and our aim is to not involve the private sector at this point.

"We have developed a mechanism with all the provinces today under which a certain quantity will be bought from Sindh by Sindh government, Pasco and the private sector," explained Bakhtiar.

The wheat will be brought to Punjab and delivered to KP as per the quantity determined, he said.

"The ratio of wheat to wheat flour has been increased by 20 per cent. So the same amount of wheat will now yield more and better quality wheat flour."

He said there was plentiful supply of wheat — 1.6 tonnes to be precise — currently available in the public sector. "Wheat harvest has begun in Sindh and will be done in the country's northern regions as well, soon."

Great idea. Let these haraamis that are desperate for attention give their looted wealth back and fund it.

I would encourage all those with means to bring forward their zakat donations. May Allah bless PK and all its people

Seems like some tough questions for PM

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that the government has decided to set up a "Corona Tigers Relief Force" which would enlist youth volunteers from across the country to help deal with coronavirus relief efforts.

He made the announcement while addressing journalists in Islamabad. "We have a large youth population in our country which is our asset; we need youngsters in the fight against coronavirus," he said. He added that registrations for the relief force would begin from March 31.

"It is important to understand that when China enforced a lockdown, it delivered food to people's homes. We did not have any such infrastructure ... for this we are setting up the special youth force, we will deliver food and other necessities to people through them."

The premier added that although coronavirus had not spread as widely in Pakistan as in some western countries, there was "no guarantee" that Covid-19 cases would not rise sharply in the country in coming weeks. He said that the government was preparing for the "worst-case scenario".

Reiterating his concerns about the impact of a lockdown in the country, the premier said that he would announce the "Prime Minister's Corona Fund" next week to provide money to labourers and daily-wagers etc so they could buy food for their families.

"We will register all such people in our Ehsaas programme. People all over Pakistan will contribute money which will be given to them [families in need]."

Calling the coronavirus situation unprecedented, he said that such a thing had not happened before and that was why it took time to coordinate a national response.

Denying rumours of a food shortage in the country, Khan said that the problem had arisen because transport of goods between provinces had been restricted and people had started hoarding foodstuffs out of panic.

"All the provinces decided today that there will no restrictions on inter-provincial transport of goods," the premier announced, adding that the government was trying to work out a mechanism with the provinces to keep the essential industries (such as those associated with food products) running while minimising the risk of spreading the virus. "We have to be careful in our efforts to control the spread of coronavirus to not create a situation whereby people start dying from hunger."

The premier also added that he would open an account in the State Bank of Pakistan and ask overseas Pakistanis to contribute remittances to it so that reserves could be boosted and pressure on the rupee could decrease.

Responding to a question about the screening and quarantine measures at the Taftan border, the prime minister said that the area was "barren" and the Balochistan government did not have enough funds to provide adequate facilities to pilgrims and traders arriving from Iran.

"Dr Zafar [Mirza] went to Taftan after the first case was reported and when he returned and gave us the report, we were horrified. Because the [area] lacked basic facilities.

"We can't call it mismanagement, there was no management there at all," the premier said.

We have enough food supplies

Minister for National Food Security Khusro Bakhtiar, who was also present during the meeting, said that the country has enough supply of wheat and other food to last until the next season. "The government has taken stock of seven essential food items in all districts and any shortages will be overcome through inter-district transfer of food resources.

"We have 1.6 million tonnes of wheat reserves; wheat procurement has started in Sindh and will start soon in Punjab too. We have enough to last until the next season."

The minister added that with the cooperation of the provinces, the gap between demand and supply would be bridged within a few days and prices of wheat and pulses would reduce.

This is a great move from Imran Khan. This can hopefully reduce the impact of the virus.

Look at the question at around 4.50, we need to forgive the crooks for their crimes against a poor country. Really, why doesnt she ask the crooks to bring back their billions so that the poor country can stand on its 2 feet.

Will it work? Or wishful thinking?

Working in a tertiary care hospital, I am going out daily and see the volunteers. I can confirm that Social Welfare groups are already in field. Delivering ration on call to poors and donating PPE to hospitals. This initiative by govt, if coordinated well, will be more organized though. Volunteers will register overwhelmingly. Just need to assure sincerity of chain of command.

Registration for Prime Minister Imran Khan's 'Corona Relief Tigers' youth team will start from March 31, the Youth Affairs Ministry announced on Saturday.

According to the ministry, citizens would be able to volunteer for the force through the PM Office portal by filling out a digital form.

“Those interested will have to provide their name, age, phone number and union council on the form to register for the force. Only those above the age of 18 can register for the force,” the ministry said, adding that registration for the force will end on April 10.

The ministry further said volunteers from each union council would be tasked with delivering food to the homes of the most vulnerable segments of society.

“Members of any party can register to volunteer. These volunteers will work under the deputy commissioners of each district. In case of a lockdown, the force will distribute food and also identify those hoarding,” the ministry said.

Volunteers will also monitor suspected cases at quarantine centres, the ministry added.

A day earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the launch of the youth force, saying it would lead the fight against the coronavirus in Pakistan.

PM Imran says 'Corona Tigers Relief Force' will provide food to those who need it

Prime Minister Imran Khan announced the "Corona Tigers Relief Force", which he said will be comprise of the individuals who will provide food to areas where it is required due to a lockdown.

He added that they will provide people with information about what is self quarantine etc.

Is the establishment of the Corona Tigers Relief Force a good idea?

On the face of it - nice name with some history to it - but will it just be eye-candy and not deliver anything useful? Or is it a good idea to galvanize the nation towards a good goal?

If its organised and funded then it will make a difference. We know the country has to come together because the mafia have used this terrible virus to blackmail the govt. Tbh , I would have been more surprised if they hadn't because these badniyaat are getting more and more desperate by the day and hoping for people to die is there politics.

no its not a good idea and it will not make a difference.
Army is already out, police is already out. They are human as well. We need to think about their health as well. If the public do not want to protect themselves, then no one can protect them. They will find a way to come out. Look at the pictures of Imtiaz market islamabad on friday how many people were there, infect its on everyday story.
Only general public can make a difference if they stay inside and stop socializing.

My understanding is that they will be the eyes and ears of their own communities so that most vulnerable are not left to starve. They will be in addition to and not replace the role of the army and police.

LAHORE: The PML-N has alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government is using the Corona Relief Fund for its political agenda, therefore a parliamentary monitoring committee must be formed to ensure oversight and transparency.

Presiding over a meeting of senior party leaders and lawmakers through a video link here on Monday, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif said not only has Imran Khan Niazi failed as a prime minister but also as the federal health minister. “Imran Khan has established himself as the minister of coronavirus spread and personal enrichment. Therefore, it is demanded that a parliamentary monitoring committee should also be responsible to know the details of the import process of all items being procured from abroad.”

Party meeting calls for parliamentary oversight

The meeting said the government was [allegedly] using foreign aid for coronavirus for its political activities. It stressed that the National Assembly speaker should summon a meeting of the standing committee with immediate effect.

Shahbaz Sharif said the rapidly-increasing number of coronavirus patients in Punjab was an alarming situation. “A serious notice of this must be taken immediately,” he said and warned that hiding [actual] data and deaths was a criminal act which should be avoided at all costs. He said the government was refraining from conducting the required testing and screening especially in Punjab that might cause an unimaginable disaster.

The PML-N president lauded the decision of the court to revive the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) as his party had been demanding this for a long time.

The meeting said Imran Niazi had completely failed as the federal health minister and had proven to be the minister for ‘spread of coronavirus’ and his task force was destroying the healthcare system. It condemned the act of not allowing the PMDC registrar from entering the building.

The meeting also pointed out that the new notice from the health ministry regarding revival of PMDC was a ‘cunning’ act and instead of the so-called Tiger Force, local governments needed to be reinstated.

It stressed the need for providing preventive gear to the doctors as ensuring their well-being was the key to ensuring the well-being of the nation. The meeting took notice of the numerous complaints of terrible state of affairs at hospitals, while the government was busy doing politics in the name of relief funds. It criticised the [alleged] distribution of money to favourites through PTI MPAs and MNAs.

MARYAM: PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz has paid tribute to medics for their services in Covid-19 pandemic.

“The mankind has not known a bigger sacrifice than to save lives imperiling your own. Stand with pride, because you are the best amongst us. Our heartfelt gratitude & homage to our heroes in white armour, our doctors, nurses, paramedics the healers & humanitarian leaders of our times,” she said in a tweet.

Shehbaz Sharif should quarantine his coronavirus-infected thinking, says Awan

SAPM Awan said that opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif should "quarantine his coronavirus-infected thinking".

She said that the government had taken him onboard but all he did was provide criticism.

"Instead of sitting in his five-star office, wearing a mask and lecturing the government, he should have been seen amongst the people doing something.

"These problems will not be solved with just lip service."

Awan added that she hoped that he would donate generously to the prime minister's coronavirus relief fund.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday issued directives for provision of relief to the masses purely on merit saying he won’t tolerate any sort of discrimination in this regard, reported ARY News.

He presided over a meeting to review progress on the measures the government has so far taken with regard to coronavirus prevention and diagnosis facilities, the stimulus package for economy, maintaining supply chain of essential food items across the country, and to keep the wheel of the national economy turning.

The premier maintained experiences of other countries about testing and control of the disease are being assessed closely.

Prime Minister Khan directed the authorities concerned to collect data about availability of testing kits and ventilators as well as other facilities being provided to the corona-affected patients in hospitals across the country.

He further instructed that people be kept posted on the coronavirus situation so that no misconceptions or ambiguities about anything arise.

It was decided that private sector hospitals will be asked to allocate a number of beds and other facilities for treatment of coronavirus patients.

Briefing the premier on the measures taken to deal with the coronavirus situation, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chief Lieutenant General Muhammad Afzal said the number of labs conducting coronavirus tests stood at 14 as of March 13, which has now been increased to 20.

Twelve more labs are being established as the NDMA has set a target of 32 such facilities in the country, he added.

Initially, the NDMA chief said 57,000 testing kits were procured from China while another 30,000 kits arrived in the country later.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Wednesday that the Pakistanis have always fought unitedly in a difficult time and the nation will also win the war against the coronavirus pandemic, ARY News reported.

PM Imran Khan made the statement while participating in ARY Digital Network’s telethon to collect donations for PM’s Relief Fund to fight COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan.

Imran Khan reiterated that the federal government announced the country’s biggest-ever $8 billion worth relief package for the nationals to fight the pandemic.

PM Imran Khan said it is not finalised how to utilise the dam funds to contain coronavirus pandemic. He added that dams are also important for the nation.

“We have to witness how long this war against coronavirus will continue. This nation fights unitedly whenever a crisis hits the country. Coronavirus makes no difference between a rich and poor person after we saw the situation of Europe and the United States (US) due to the pandemic.”

“I want to tell the nation regarding the importance of the Corona Relief Fund. We have delivered Pakistan’s biggest-ever relief package worth $8 billion in accordance to our available resources. US government had announced $2200 billion package amid COVID-19 crisis.”

Read: 20,000 protective suits to be provided to doctors, paramedics fighting COVID-19: Salman Iqbal

“Pakistan has faced a severe economic crisis, however, the number of persons is in majority in Pakistan which donate money for welfare tasks. Our young population is on the second number around the world.”

“At this time, the government has shortage of resources and the authorities have to provide relief after collecting donations to the deserving people facing difficulties due to lockdown. The daily wagers are now unemployed and businesses are at a halt. These people need our support.”

The premier said, “The population of China’s Wuhan was 10 million and the Chinese government had provided ration to its nationals at their home. We also have to provide food to the nationals after restricting them inside their houses and without finalising such measures, lockdown will not produce any good result.”

Imran Khan announced that the federal government will transfer case worth Rs150 billion to the deserving people through the database of Ehsaas programme. He detailed that 12 million families are currently registered with the programme, whereas, at least 80 to 100 million people will be affected with the lockdown.

“The government is forming Corona Relief Tiger Force to spot needy people to cover the remaining 80 to 100 million people from the funds.”

When questioned regarding the proper utilisation and immediate results after collecting the funds, PM Khan replied, “I think, I am the biggest fundraiser in the history of Pakistan who collected donations for constructing Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital. Later, I collected funds to run the hospital after its construction was completed. After this, Namal University and two more cancer hospitals had been established in the country.”

“Former chief justice raised funds for constructing dams and the donations were preserved and unspent. I can collect funds earlier but the government prefers to finalise preparation to cope with the impacts of the pandemic.”

“Relief funds will be spent on those lost their jobs due to coroanvirus and the people who are not registered with the government’s programme.”

“In America and Europe, all labourers are registered and possessed social security. Whereas, 80 per cent labourers are not registered in Pakistan. The services of Tiger Force will be utilised to spot such people.”

Commenting over the transparency in spendings, PM Khan said the government will record all expenditures under the relief funds by using all modern techniques.

The premier also appealed showbiz industry to help the nationals as it is the time to raise their voice and fame to fight COVID-19.

PM also announced to launch Facebook page of Ehsaas programe that will be used to dispatch ration to the areas facing difficulties. The social media page will also guide welfare institutions and social workers for relief activities.

During the telethon, various prominent personalities, businesspersons, celebrities and others announced donations of millions of rupees for the PM’s Relief Fund.

IA we will get this figure to even greater numbers. Why dont the Nooras and PPP( that dont like IK) join their own forces and do their bit, the more the merrier.

Lets hope that these guys work efficiently now and provide the support and help that the people actually need in these difficult times.

Funny how certain paid anchors were running smear campaigns that IK's pet dog was also called 'Tiger' and what not.... I loved how social media pushed back and started abusive campaigns against these anchors. Then they start crying that social media is abusing us. Jaisa karo gaye waisa bharo gaye.

Hope its not a gimmick and people actually serve the masses.

Sounds similar to a cammunist dream land with obsession for young people but ok

I am not fond of this idea tbh
How will we insure that this funding is going to the right people?
Why can't we give this money to the counselor who knows the actual people instead of some random young guy

Can we use internet or telephone where people call in and than maybe these guys go in check the financial situation and than bring the food in
This could work I guess

I just hope these volunteers are sensible, honest and intelligent, otherwise this could go horribly wrong.

How is the alternative to social distancing And lockdown creating more volunteers who will have to work in groups? Especially when these are not trained professionals and just volunteers

Hopefully it goes well. But it has every elements for a disaster also. These guys are inexperienced and most probably have no exposure to such projects.

When you have teachers who are free at home and lady health workers, both theses segments know there area much better as well, why the hell you need these so called volunteers, only for drama bazi, they most likely will prove counter productive and waste precious time. And that 12k figure is aslo seem a hoax so far, i applied this service for some daily wagers and the reply they receive is contact district administration and no one know damn about that and how they can contact when all such government offices are closed, and specially in villages they are doing it through numberdars who has there political agendas and biases, failed system so far.

In india, these lady health workers are now given added responsibilities including creating awareness.

Teachers and the lady workers are much respected in the community, knows their designated area very well. This should have been one area which IK have missed.

exactly its a tough task hopefully it works but I am not that hopeful but I would rather be wrong than correct

More than 400,000 people register for PM's relief force, says Usman Dar

More than 400,000 people have registered to join the prime minister's Corona Relief Tigers' (CRT) force in just two days, PTI leader Usman Dar has said.

He added that more than 9,000 women had registered for the force from across the country.

Provincial breakdown of the number of volunteers who registered for CRT is as follows:

Punjab: 276,000

Sindh: 62,839

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 52,171

Balochistan: 3,013

Islamabad: 6,408

Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 4,173

Gilgit-Baltistan: 1,549

If you know PK teachers then you know that arent going to do jack as they are mostly lazy and have no motivation and will hinder the project. Lady health workers are an option but their are cultural issues with them going around in a "lockdown". IK has done well so far( there is a long way to go) and IA he is right on this. In the UK over 500,000 have officially volunteered to this and countless others that are doing something for elderly neighbours. I do agree that it has to be organised properly, otherwise it will be a waste of time.

Seems like this is more for Marketing ("Imran Khan's Cornered Tigers to Corona Tigers") than it is anything substantial on the ground.

Happy to be proven wrong.

Well time will tell. If done with right Niyaat it will succeed if it isn't, it won't.

"intention" and "being practical" could be two different things. You may have good intention but the limitation may impose a great obstacle in your plans and could backfire. At this moment, I understand no one should criticize such steps but seriosuly speaking, even going by the interviews of IK, it seems he had better options available which he ignored.

If he gets it wrong then critise. In the UK its been done and its been very successful.

Why will they need to work in groups?
Even if they need to accomplish some tasks in unison they can still do this by adopting social distancing protocol.
Volunteers have been successfully deployed in many countries to help governments in their jihad against this threat.

There are cultural differences which you need to take into account. What works in UK or USA, may not work in India or Pakistan.

On western countries, a whole community won't gear up/riot towards medical personnel or even police in these kind of circumstances where as, in india or Pakistan, it already happened.

Maybe, but if anyone can get people motivated and working it's the Kaptaan. Organisation is key, but IA it will work.

Social Etiquette is different for most western counties and the Subcontinent.

If these volunteers are trained by professionals then sure it can work but if people are left to do things on their own, despite their genuine noble intent it can go south if they don’t take all precautions.

Is the government providing them with Hazmat suits and other equipment like some European counties are doing?

You need to take all this into account.

There should be government guidelines first and then individual responsibility. I don’t see the former here.

Anyway let’s hope it works out. I am just pointing out why this is a problem in our part of the world, if it works out that’s great for 2 reasons. 1. It helps the vulnerable obviously and 2. It can show that in times of crisis people can change and follow the rules even in sc

Again please don’t post drivel just for posting sake. Preparations are still under way and those that require the information will be taken into confidence.
Please spare us any of your faux well-wishes or sympathies.
Your true colours are amply displayed on various threads.

The number of feel good stories coming out of this are great - if nothing else great for the morale of the nation.
