Coronavirus impact on Gulf Economy & Pakistani Expats

There is a thread that discusses the coronavirus in gulf countries in the steps that the governments and those countries are taking to stop / limit its spread.

I wanted to create one specific for the Pakistani Expat communities and to learn about the impact of coronavirus on gulf economies and it's direct consequences on the employment opportunities for the pakistanis in the gulf countries.

Those that are from that areas or have relatives in that area Can you please post in this thread and let me know how things are down there?

Very good thread.

At the moment in Gulf, most job losses are for the low income earners which is really sad. However, employers like Emirates and Qatar Airlines are also letting pilots etc go.

Majority of people of Pakistani background are doing low-income jobs and they will be severely hit, they're often supporting more than one family's back home and the ripple effect of This down turn in golf economy is going to be horrendous for their relatives in Pakistan.

One local bank got rid of all tea and office boys overnight and replaced them with vending machine.

These are the lowest paid workers....all india/Pak/Bangladesh - guess they will be heading home now via repatriation flights.

The impact of Middle eastern expats losing their jobs will be unbelievable on Pakistani economy.


It will impact mental and psychological well being of tens of millions who depend on their loved ones to work in middle east and send $ back to Pak
