I simply can't believe people want to drop Mohammad Amir

Cricket is a team game. Apart from bowling a player needs to do well in the other 3 departments as well, and your Rahats, Imrans, Riaz's who ever can only dream of the innings Amir played today. This is what you call preassure and Malik, Hafeez, Azhar, Imad all bottled it here and Amir supported Sarfraz incredibly well.

I don't think anyone wants him to be dropped, they just want him to take wickets.

People hold him to an incredibly high standard.

He deserves his spot.

Amir .. You beauty .. The only person in this Pakistani team that plays to win and is World Class ..

Defn, top player from being hated in start of the match to winning this!

people are frustrated at his bowling. Dont want him dropped but needs to take wickets more regularly.

Take a bow son, TAKE A BOW. You have stepped up when your team needed you the most.

You showed more guts than Azhar, Malik, Hafeez and Imad combined.

Brilliant batting and composure from him. Especially considering he was batting with the human equivalent of a hamster. Joke that Sarfaraz has been awarded MoM.

Well bowled too.

Have a strong feeling he's gonna blow away the English.

All we need now is to get past the Bangladeshis and we can successfully defend our title :afridi1

Deserved to be MOTM for taking out Matthews and Dickwella at a very crucial time and then playing the most composed knock of Pakistan's innings.

MoM.

Congratulations to Pak fans. Win or otherwise, this tournament has nicely highlighted the flaws in this team. That's progress if the team responds correctly.

Good luck for the semi-final!

You tell me what exactly is amirs role?

Is he a bowler? Or an allrounder?

As a bowler he hasnt performed to his potential.

If he is an allrounder, then whats the poont of having fahim ashraf

Brilliant performance from him - gun players perform in tough situations and he did that exactly.

Great batting down the order, however would we have gotten home had he gotten out? Probably..

Would we have gotten home if Sarfraz got out? Probably not

You need to read OP. Aamir is a bowler and he took two wickets today. He has bowled well all this time though he hasn't taken many wickets. When you don't take wicket the best thing you can do is to bowl economical and perform in other formats. Had it not been for him Supporting the captain we would be on way back to Pakistan.

Sarfraz has taken 2-3 catches and one of them was a blinder... so allround performance of Sarf was better

He was composed and had the nerves of steel, when sarfraz looked ready to bottle it and give it away several times.

Yeah probably a close one, not much in it. Although Amir was way more composed than Sarfaraz who looked very edgy and got two chances.

Captains are always more stressed, it takes alot out of you, and to produce that knock as a captain in a virtual semi final...

He's done it before as well for Pak, came up trumps against SA in a must win game of WC 2015, and he's done it again this time as captain...

Agreed, they are stressed but they also need to display a calm exterior as the rest of the team looks upto them. Sarfaraz usually lets his nervousness show. But it's early days yet and hopefully he will get over this as he plays more games as captain.

Amir was composed and didn't take a risk while Sarfaraz took the charge for single doubles and shot making. It is criminal to appreciate Amir's inning and belittle the grit Sarfaraz showed. Sarfaraz, despite being lucky, was the reason for Amirs composure and disciplined batting.

I don't think anyone wants him to be dropped, they just want him to take wickets.

....

Just messing with you dude :))

Congrats.

You need players who are mentally tough , who play for team. Amir has been bowling his heart out but has been unlucky to not get wickets. Even today 1 catch was dropped!!!! The way he batted looked like a No 4 /5 batsman

Clutchest player in the team. Stepped up when the team needed him. Calm and cool under pressure. Classy innings.

Fahim Ashraf was also playing very well, in fact his cameo started the turn around. But a very unlucky dismissal. Another Player who is doing great is Junaid Khan. This is the best trio Amir, Junaid & Hassan for Pakistan. Amir will now get more wickets because their will be sport from other end (Like Junaid provided today)
Fakhar Zaman is now showing potential. Apart from that we have a limited batting potential. we need an extra batsman Harris sohail in the middle order.

Brilliant innings by a World Class player!!!! Well Done Amir, you have made us proud.

Wow high praise coming from an Indian.

Great innings!

Again shows you why left handers are required in the team. Malinga was superb against right handers but struggled against left handers. that was game changing. His yorkers and slower deliveries were not upto the mark against amir.

Honestly looked like a one-down batsman. Was more claim than Saifi

He is the only world class bowler we have. All opponents look to see off his spells thats why he is not among wickets.

Great innings kept it simple did not try to do something crazy, and most importantly was able to bring the team home.

The lengths people will go to NOT give credit to Amir. Anything he does is not enough.

I wonder, is there any member of the Pakistan cricket team that has regularly faced the pressure that Amir has? Wahab can be absolute garbage for 2 years and is a guaranteed selection.

Amir has to live up to himself from years ago EVERY MATCH. People expect him to be an all time great. If he helps play a match winning knock, that's not good enough either.

He's not going to be the Amir of Lords. Who can ever get back to that after not playing professional sports for 5 years??

But he is with regularity an economical bowler for us. He doesn't get smashed around the way the other fasts do. There isn't anyone you can clearly replace him with, and for today I am extremely thankful that he has become so accustomed to pressure since his return that he could keep his head today.

All the pressure and spotlight on him - his return, going back to England, expectations - maybe all that helped today when so many others wilted.

He dropped the last specialist batsman, who took SRL to 236, backed by another blunder of PAK Captain, who kept 8 overs of his pacers for death overs at 170/7 or so & allowed Lakmal to drag that score to 236. Instead of winning it, basically he almost lost the match for his drop & goofing up.

Business usual, Sarfraz takes that catch, SRL end at 170, Amir 4/38 & PAK winning by 4 wickets inside 30 overs with Sarfu 23* & Amir not required to bat.
.... not to mention those 3 drops by Lankans, but that's not written in score card, so I give it to him.

Some Pak fans will question any player that is not their local favourite.

Amir showed so much heart and guts but above all application and brains.

I ignored those pathetic threads in the morning questioning Amirs place. We have some thick fickle fans who don't know where the problems are in the ODI team.

It was a very tough chance, someone like Atherton said it was a very tough chance and he did well to get to that, having already taken a blinder before to get rid of some batsmen who's name I don't remember...

Don't think Amir would have 4 wickets he would have 3, Junaid could have 4 but hGuna was dropped off his bowlling from a dolly by Fahim...

2 drops by Lanka, and 1 was a very difficult chance, however the guy creates a pressure of his own, why is it when Afridi and Malik scores off dropped catches it gets praised to no ends... I remember some defence from you in the final ODI game vs the WI where he was dropped twice to reach his century.

Atleast Sarf has the guts to perform in a big game, against the big guns, in a virtual knockout where Meek boy is still looking to find his first proper innnings in Champions Trophy since his 129 vs India almost 8 years ago..

All of a sudden lot of praise for Amir, its not just our team, whole Pakistan have heart on their sleeves :))

Ofcourse you will goto any lengths to prove this guy is not as fit as Zulfiqar Babar..

Really appreciate how Sarfraz gave all the credit to Amir for his batting inpost match presentation.. Very simple and humble guy. No me me me!

Very played today. To use that as "take that, haters" is the wrong response.
His bowling has improved over the course of the tournament, culminating in wickets today. I would love for him to have two wickets up front against England.
But as a player, he did everything right today.

For sure, it wasn't me.

Please keep this thread to MoM of this match - or we'll have to go back just one match. Against SAF, that was also an eliminator & SAF still is No. 1 team :(
