‘Felt Like a Hostage’: Bengaluru Startup CEO Alleges Harassment During Cab Ride to AI Impact Summit

Dhananjay Yadav, a Bengaluru startup CEO, recounted a troubling cab ride to the airport where he felt trapped. He booked an AC cab via the Namma Yatri app, but the driver refused to turn on the air conditioner, claiming it was a non-AC ride.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru-based startup founder and CEO Dhananjay Yadav has shared a disturbing experience from a cab ride to the airport, alleging that he felt “almost like a hostage” during the journey. Yadav, who was travelling to Delhi to attend the AI Impact Summit, described the incident in a post on social media.
According to Yadav, he booked an AC cab through the Namma Yatri app for his airport drop. However, during the ride, the driver refused to switch on the air conditioner, claiming that it was a non-AC booking, even though the app clearly showed it as an AC ride.

Yadav said the situation escalated when the driver checked the fare on his phone, which was Rs 844, and demanded additional money. The driver reportedly told him that it was a “metered taxi” and charged Rs 24 per kilometre. Yadav said he insisted that he would pay only the amount shown on the app, but the driver refused to accept this.

The startup founder further alleged that when he asked the driver to stop the cab so he could book another ride, the driver refused to let him get down unless he paid the full amount of Rs 844.
"Felt almost like a hostage on my cab ride to the airport today. Booked an AC cab via @nammayatri
for my flight to Delhi (Impact AI Summit). The driver refused to turn on the AC, claiming it was a non-AC ride — despite the app clearly showing otherwise. He then checked the fare of Rs. 844 on my phone and demanded extra, saying it’s a “metered taxi” at Rs.24/km. I insisted I’d pay as per the app. He refused. When I asked him to drop me so I could book another cab, he said he wouldn’t let me go unless I paid Rs.844, " he wrote in an X post.

“Eventually, I had to give in just to make it to the airport,” Yadav wrote, adding that the experience left him feeling unsafe and deeply uncomfortable.
He said he has raised a complaint regarding the incident and urged authorities and cab platforms to take stricter action against such behaviour. “Customer safety cannot be compromised,” he said.
Yadav is the co-founder and CEO of NeoSapien.xyz. His post has sparked discussions online around passenger safety and accountability of app-based cab services.

Speaker Om Birla Re-Constitutes Panel To Probe Judge In Cash Row

The committee includes Supreme Court Judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shri Chandrashekhar, and Karnataka High Court senior advocate BV Acharya.

New Delhi:
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has re-constituted a three-member committee to investigate the corruption allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, the judge of the Allahabad High Court, at whose home piles of burnt cash was found.

The committee includes Supreme Court Judge Justice Aravind Kumar, Bombay High Court Chief Justice Shri Chandrashekhar, and Karnataka High Court senior advocate BV Acharya.

The notice from the Lok Sabha Secretariat mentioned that the committee was being reconstituted "for the purpose of making an investigation into the grounds on which the removal of Justice Yashwant Varma of the Allahabad High Court is prayed for".

The Speaker's move came after the Supreme Court dismissed Varma's appeal challenging the the decision to admit an impeachment motion against him and the validity of a panel set up to probe the corruption allegations.

Justice Varma was repatriated from the Delhi High Court to the Allahabad High Court after burnt wads of currency notes were found at his official residence in New Delhi on March 14 last year.

In August, Om Birla had formed a three-member panel to investigate Justice Yashwant Varma. The committee comprises Supreme Court Justice Aravind Kumar, Madras High Court Chief Justice MM Shrivastava, and senior advocate BV Acharya.

He had also accepted an impeachment motion against Justice Varma, endorsed by 146 members of Parliament.

In his petition to the top court, Justice Varma had argued that the constitution of the committee under Section 3(2) of the 1968 Act violated both his right to be treated and protected equally by the law.

He also asserted that though notices of motion for removal were given in both Houses of Parliament on the same day, the Speaker had formed the committee unilaterally, in a violation of rules.

But a bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Satish Chandra Sharma said a legal provision cannot be used as a weapon to scuttle parliamentary proceedings.

Justice Varma's argument, the judges said, lacked any legal foundation and would entail consequences of a most serious nature.
During Holi last year, firefighters called to Justice Varma's Delhi bungalow had found piles of money that had been burnt. It had shocked the country and raised questions about corruption in the highest levels of judiciary.

Denying any knowledge about the cash, Justice Varma had called the allegations "preposterous".

Later, the top court had set up an in-house panel that recommended his impeachment. The panel's report was forwarded to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi - by then Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna - with the same recommendation.

How An Ex Branch Manager Masterminded 590-Crore Fraud At IDFC FIRST Bank

Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested former branch manager Ribhav Rishi, former relationship manager Abhay, Ribhav's wife, Swati Singla, and her brother, Abhishek Singla.

Behind the Rs 590-crore fraud at IDFC FIRST Bank's Chandigarh branch was a former branch manager, and funds from Haryana government departments' accounts were funnelled into an account belonging to a company run by the former manager's wife and brother-in-law, the investigation into the shocking case has found.

Haryana's Anti-Corruption Bureau has made four arrests in the case so far: former branch manager Ribhav Rishi, the bank's former relationship manager Abhay, Ribhav's wife, Swati Singla, and her brother, Abhishek Singla.

AS Chawla, Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, said Ribhav and Abhay are the main accused in the case. Both of them quit their jobs at the branch around six months ago.

A sum of nearly Rs 300 crore was transferred to a company called Swastik Desh Projects. While Swati holds 75 per cent of the company's shares, Abhishek holds the remaining 25 per cent. The accused will now be produced in court.

How The Fraud Came To Light

Earlier this week, IDFC FIRST Bank disclosed in a regulatory filing that it had detected a fraud of about Rs 590 crore involving certain Haryana government-linked accounts operated through its Chandigarh branch. The bank said the fraud was prima facie the result of unauthorised and fraudulent activities carried out by some employees at the branch, possibly involving other individuals.

The bank said the fraud surfaced when a Haryana government department requested closure and transfer of its account balance to another bank. During the process, bank officials found discrepancies between the amount mentioned in the records and the actual balance. Similar discrepancies were identified in other Haryana government-linked accounts.

What Investigators Said

The main accused (Ribhav and Abhay) made the master plan, Chawla said. "A sum of Rs 300 crore went to Swastik Desh Projects and it was forwarded from there. It is surprising that the IDFC FIRST Bank branch is in Chandigarh, the Haryana government departments are in state territory, and the AU Small Finance Bank, where the money was transferred, has its branch in Mohali," he said.

"We questioned the senior management whether they checked how a government account was being opened outside the state territory. They told us this problem because of the proximity of the three cities, and two states and one Union Territory are involved," he said.

"We assure you we will take strict action against everyone who is involved in this. The investigation is in a preliminary stage now. The modus operandi has come before us, but we cannot share details without cross-verification," Chawla said.

What Bank Has Said

Amid the investigation, the bank has said it has already repaid 100 per cent of the amount claimed by Haryana government departments.

In a statement published in newspapers today, the bank has said it always upholds the highest principles and standards.

"Now was the occasion to stand up and deliver when it truly matters and put our CUSTOMER FIRST principles in action. We are a principle-based bank, and mean it. We did not hold up the payment on account of the matter being under investigation. This is the DNA of IDFC FIRST Bank," the bank said in its statement.

"Hence, even though the investigation in the matter is ongoing, we have paid out 100% of the principal and interest to the relevant departments of Haryana Government as claimed, which works out to a net amount of INR 583 crore. The departments have sincerely thanked and appreciated the Bank for the positive approach, professional manner, and speedy and principle-based resolution," the statement said.

The threat also affected private schools in Mohali. When schools in Phase 5 and other areas received the news, students were quickly sent home for safety. Worried parents rushed to pick up their children, causing traffic congestion in many areas. The senior officer said the police were conducting checks in the schools.
Earlier, sixteen private schools in Mohali had received bomb threat emails, triggering evacuation and prompting detailed anti-sabotage checks by police. However, after detailed inspection, no suspicious or explosive material was found at any of the locations, reported news agency PTI.
The latest scare comes close on the heels of similar threats in Chandigarh, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala and Haryana schools. All threats turned out to be hoaxes.

A rift in their relationship prompted Priyanka to leave her partner, Sandeep, on July 1, 2014, seven years after her marriage.

In 2024, when Sandeep Kumar's wife left their home in Uttar Pradesh, taking along her jewellery and their son, he thought she had been killed by his in-laws. Little did he know that two years later, his wife, Priyanka Prajapati, would turn up hale and hearty, seeking a change in her Aadhaar card details.

Enraged Wife Leaves Marriage Of 7 Years

May 14, 2017 - the day Sandeep and Priyanka got married and stepped into a new phase of their life together. The two had a son and everything was going fine until one day Priyanka left the house.

A rift in their relationship prompted Priyanka to leave her partner. On July 1, 2024, Priyanka collected her jewellery worth lakhs and left for her maternal home. Hours later, she left her parents' home as well with the intention of ending her life.

After trying to die by suicide multiple times, Priyanka moved to Ayodhya to seek Lord Ram's blessings.

Beginning Of A Love vs Heartbreak

In Ayodhya, Priyanka met Mangal Chandra from Rajasthan. The two fell in love and started living as husband and wife in Rajasthan.

Far away in Uttar Pradesh's Basti district, Sandeep was devastated. When he approached his in-laws to inquire about his wife and child, some people told him that the two had been murdered by her father for jewellery and their bodies thrown into the Saryu river.

Sandeep then approached the court following which, on November 4, 2024, a case was registered against Priyanka's father, Dayaram, her mother, Subhavati Devi, her uncle's daughter, Sanjana, and another villager, Ashok Kumar Maurya, under charges of murder and destruction of evidence.

An OTP Flipped The Story

For nearly two years the police have been investigating the missing cum murder case of Priyanka Prajapati. Then one day Sandeep received a one-time password (OTP) on his phone for updating information on Priyanka's Aadhaar card.

The police then swung into action and went to Rajasthan in search of the 'dead' Priyanka.

Sandeep has now requested custody of his child, while Priyanka's family has disowned her.

From ‘Accidental Fall’ to Murder Case: Bengaluru Police Arrest Nephew for Killing Uncle Over Property Row

A 52-year-old polio survivor, Inayathulla Pasha, was allegedly murdered by his 23-year-old nephew, Masrur Ahmed, following a dispute over living arrangements. The incident occurred on March 1 after Pasha returned home intoxicated.

Bengaluru News: In a shocking incident, a 52-year-old polio survivor in Austin Town allegedly killed by his own nephew, who initially tried to pass off the death as an accident. The accused, 23-year-old Masrur Ahmed, reportedly attacked the victim, Inayathulla Pasha, after a heated argument at Pasha’s house on the evening of March 1. Pasha ran a two-wheeler repair garage near Shoolay Circle. For the past 11 years, he had been living in a house owned by his elder sister, Usna Banu, under a lease arrangement. Pasha had been divorced for about 14 years and had no children.
According to police, Pasha had been in a long-running dispute with Banu over the house. He had reportedly paid a lease amount of Rs 3 lakh, but Banu allegedly refused to return the money and was pressuring him to vacate the house. This issue often led to arguments between Pasha, Banu and her son, Masrur Ahmed. On the evening of March 1, Pasha returned home after drinking alcohol. Police said Ahmed again asked him to vacate the house, which led to another argument. The verbal fight soon turned violent.

Investigators said Ahmed allegedly assaulted Pasha inside the house. During the attack, Pasha suffered serious injuries and died.
After the incident, Ahmed allegedly tried to hide the crime. Police said he placed Pasha’s body on the bed and told relatives and neighbours that Pasha had died after accidentally falling while drunk. Banu and Ahmed reportedly repeated the same story to friends and family members.

However, suspicion grew the next day when preparations for Pasha’s funeral began. Some of his friends felt something was wrong and approached the Viveknagar police, raising doubts about the cause of death.
When police arrived at the house, they noticed visible injuries on Pasha’s body. Residents and relatives also told officers that although Pasha’s body was lying on the bed, there were bloodstains near the door, which raised further suspicion.
Based on a complaint filed by Pasha’s stepson, Syed Mohammed Ali, police registered an unnatural death case and sent the body for a post-mortem examination. Ali told police that Pasha had survived polio in childhood and his left leg was affected.
Doctors later informed the police that Pasha had died due to assault. The post-mortem report revealed that he had multiple broken ribs, indicating a violent attack.

Following this, police asked Pasha’s relative, Attaullah Sharif, to file a formal murder complaint.
Inspector Veeresh R and his team then detained Masrur Ahmed for questioning. During interrogation, Ahmed allegedly confessed to the crime. He told police that he lost his temper after Pasha abused his mother during the argument.
Ahmed admitted that he assaulted Pasha with his hands, pushed him to the floor and repeatedly kicked him in the chest and abdomen.

Police said Ahmed later tried to cover up the crime by cleaning the bloodstains from the floor and leaving the house after placing Pasha’s body on the bed.
Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday and has now been remanded to judicial custody.

The incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh and the man reportedly suffered serious burn injuries.

Fake Documents, Murders: How Fraudsters Ran Rs 100 Crore Insurance Scam In UP

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also taken interest in the case and sought related documents and FIR copies from the local police, officials added.

Sambhal (UP):
A massive insurance scam involving fraudulent policies, fake documents and even killings carried out to claim insurance money has surfaced in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district, with the estimated fraud amount crossing Rs 100 crore, officials said on Thursday.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also taken interest in the case and sought related documents and FIR copies from the local police, they added.

Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Anukriti Sharma told reporters that the gang involved in the scam has been under surveillance since January. So far, 52 people have been arrested in connection with the case, while around 50 accused are still absconding. Three of the accused have surrendered in court.

Explaining the modus operandi, Mr Sharma said, "The gang members used to target young individuals and, in some cases, killed them to claim life-insurance money. In other instances, they took out insurance policies in the names of people suffering from terminal illnesses, such as cancer, as well as in the names of deceased individuals and then conspired to claim money from health and life insurance companies by forging documents and manipulating records."

The officer said the scam has links to at least 12 states and 17 FIRs have so far been registered, including four for murder.

"In the murder cases, the deaths were passed off as road accidents caused by unidentified vehicles to obtain insurance payouts. The FIRs in those cases were closed, but police managed to reopen those after finding irregularities. Investigations have so far revealed that 29 death certificates used by the gang were completely fake, while some others were genuine but had tampered dates to align with insurance claims," Sharma said.

The gang's operations were not limited to Sambhal district alone. Cases have also been identified in nearby districts, such as Amroha, Badaun and Moradabad, according to officials.

Police said they believe the total fraud amount has already exceeded Rs 100 crore and the figure may rise further as the investigation progresses.

Sharma said police have sought detailed data from various insurance companies and are scrutinising records currently to identify other suspicious claims.

The suspected data will be shared with the insurance companies for further verification and follow-up action, she said.

According to Sharma, initial findings point to the involvement of ASHA workers, individuals working in the health sector and employees of insurance firms.

She said the investigation is going on swiftly and more arrests are likely.

Responding to a question about the ED's involvement in the case, Sharma confirmed that the federal agency has sought specific information, including FIR copies, which have been provided by police.

Aligarh Teacher's Killers Kept Shooting Him In The Head Even After He Died

Danish Rao, a computer science teacher, had gone out for a walk on Wednesday night when he was shot dead by two gunmen.

Lucknow:
Two days after a teacher was shot dead on the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus in Uttar Pradesh, CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced. The gunmen kept shooting into Danish Rao's head even after he died, the video showed.

Rao had been teaching computer science for 11 years at the ABK High School, located on the AMU campus. He had gone out for a walk on Wednesday night with two other colleagues when a scooter stopped near them and threatened them with pistols. Soon after, shots were fired, and Rao collapsed.

The murder was caught on a CCTV camera. The footage showed a group suddenly getting scattered in front of Kennedy Hall . As Rao lay lifeless on the road, one of the attackers bent downwards, placed a gun on his head, and kept firing. At least six shots were heard being fired in the footage.

There were two attackers, and both shot at Rao, Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Jadon confirmed yesterday. Before the shooting, one of the gunmen told Rao, "You don't know me yet, now you will," NDTV earlier reported.

Panic and chaos ensued after the shooting as people started running for their lives, unable to understand what had just happened on the campus of one of the prominent educational institutions in the country.

The teacher was declared dead on arrival at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College.

The police have formed six teams to trace and arrest the attackers. They are reviewing the CCTV footage from the area to zero in on the suspects who are still at large.

The AMU administration was informed about the shooting around 9 pm, Proctor Mohd Wasim Ali said. "We received information that there had been a shooting near the library and that a man had been injured and was being taken for treatment. We learn the victim was Danish Rao and that he was a teacher at the ABK School," Ali told reporters.

Divorce Can't Be Granted Citing Cruelty Based On WhatsApp Chats: Bombay High Court

The woman moved the High Court, challenging the family court order claiming that the same was passed ex-parte and without giving her an opportunity to oppose or put forth her arguments.

Mumbai:
Divorce cannot be granted on grounds of alleged cruelty merely based on WhatsApp chats without giving the spouse a chance to rebut, the Bombay High Court has said.

A bench of Justices Bharati Dangre and Manjusha Deshpande last week quashed an order passed by the Nashik district family court allowing an application filed by a man seeking divorce from his wife on grounds of cruelty.

The woman moved the HC, challenging the family court order claiming that the same was passed ex-parte and without giving her an opportunity to oppose or put forth her arguments.

The family court, in its May 2025 order, relied on a WhatsApp chat submitted by the man in which the woman demanded that they shift from Nashik to Pune to live separately, and also in which she allegedly made derogatory comments against her mother-in-law and sister-in-law.

The family court noted that the wife had used pressure tactics, emotional blackmail and intemperate language in the WhatsApp chat and held that cruelty was meted against the husband and hence he was entitled to divorce.

The high court, in its order, noted that the family court failed to give an opportunity to the wife to rebut the evidence (WhatsApp chats) submitted by the husband.

"Merely relying on the WhatsApp chat, the divorce decree cannot be granted, since it is not proved by leading evidence," the HC said.

Hence, the order granting decree of divorce needs to be set aside and the matter needs to be remanded to the family court so that the wife is granted an opportunity to be heard and submit evidence, it said.

The court said that while the family court decides the matter afresh, the estranged couple can explore the possibility of settlement through mediation.

Forged Documents, Broken Locks: Mumbai Police Expose Housing Scam in Mankhurd

The Trombay Police in Mumbai have discovered a scam involving forged government documents and unauthorized occupancy of police housing in Mankhurd, leading to the arrest of two women.

The Trombay Police in Mumbai have uncovered a scam involving fake government papers and illegal occupation of police housing in Mankhurd. Following which, they have arrested two women, who was living illegally in flats inside a police quarters building developed by MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority). Police said that they had received a tip-off about unknown people staying in Building No. 21. When they raided the building, they found two women living in flats numbered 511 and 708.
Police have identified the women as 44-year-old Sufia Khatun Mohammad Shamim Khan, who says she is a social worker, and 22-year-old Shahida Khatun Usama Khan, a housewife.

'Showed Fake Papers'

When questioned, the women showed documents claiming that the flats were officially allotted to them by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, police checked the papers and found that they were fake. The documents had forged signatures in the name of an Assistant Municipal Commissioner from the M-East Ward.
Police said the two women were working with a man named Sansar Khan, who is currently absconding. He is believed to be the main person behind the scam. Investigators say he pretended to be a BMC employee and told Sufia that he could get her a government flat for Rs 5 lakh. She allegedly paid him Rs 2 lakh in cash and gave him her identity documents.

Police believe the group created fake allotment letters and then broke the locks of empty police flats to move in. The fake possession letter was reportedly made in Shahida’s name.
The two flats have now been sealed. Police are checking around 30 other flats in the building to see if more units were taken over using fake documents. They are also searching for Sansar Khan.
Investigators suspect that more people may be involved and are checking whether this scam is linked to other government housing projects in the city.

Raipur: A horrific incident was narrowly avoided at a petrol pump in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur after a man allegedly set a fuel nozzle on fire while trying to smoke, triggering flames on a motorcycle and the pump machine. The incident took place on Thursday evening in the Urla area. Police said two men, identified as Dharmendra Kshatri and Imran, had arrived at the petrol pump on a motorcycle to refuel. While Imran remained seated on the bike, Dharmendra stood next to it as the fuel tank was opened, according to a report.

How Bengaluru Man Lost Rs 70 Lakh in Bitcoin Scam

A Bengaluru man lost Rs 70 lakh in a bitcoin scam after replying to a wrong Telegram message. Fraudsters promised high returns, froze his account, and demanded more money before he reported it.

Bengaluru Bitcoin Scam: A 50-year-old private firm employee from Kodihalli, east Bengaluru, lost Rs 70 lakh after falling victim to a bitcoin investment scam. It all started with a simple reply to a wrongly sent message on Telegram, according to a media report. On November 30 of last year, he received a message from a woman identifying herself as Priya Agarwal, who claimed she had intended to contact someone named Rahul. Instead of ignoring it, he replied, and their conversation soon became regular chats, later moving to WhatsApp.
Priya said that she lived in Liverpool, UK, and was running a family business there. The two began discussing her ventures, including online bitcoin trading. Priya convinced the victim that she had been making huge profits for the last four to five years, reported The Times of India.

She persuaded him to invest and promised that she would personally guide him to quick and big returns. Later, the man used the link Priya sent to reach a trading platform. He signed up and made his first investment of Rs 50,000 on December 9, 2025, transferring the money to a bank account provided by the platform’s so-called customer support team.

1 Month, 8 Transactions

The platform showed impressive profits, encouraging the victim to deposit more money. From the day of making his first investment to January 14, 2026, the victim made eight transactions, sending a total of Rs 70 lakh. Reportedly, the victim even took loans from a bank and a finance company and also used his personal savings, all at Priya’s insistence.

Domestic Dispute Turns Deadly: History-Sheeter Pumps 8 Bullets Into Wife in Jhajjar

A history-sheeter allegedly shot his wife eight times outside their home in Haryana’s Jhajjar district following a suspected domestic dispute and is currently absconding.

A man allegedly shot his wife dead outside their home in Haryana’s Jhajjar district on Monday (March 2) night, firing eight bullets before fleeing the scene. Police teams have launched a massive manhunt after the incident, which is believed to have stemmed from a domestic dispute. The man identified as Sanjay is reportedly a history-sheeter with three criminal cases registered against him, including one related to murder.
According to police, the accused opened fire on his wife, Anjali, outside their residence before escaping. A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence, while investigators began scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to track his movements before and after the incident. Multiple police teams, including CIA and special staff units, have been conducting raids at suspected hideouts, but the accused has not yet been traced.
Preliminary findings suggest that a domestic dispute may have triggered the fatal shooting. However, police said the investigation is ongoing and all possible angles are being examined as efforts continue to apprehend the suspect.

The case comes days after a CA allegedly killed his banker wife on Valentine's Day and then passing it off as a robbery. The Police solved the killing of Mahak, a bank employee, within 18 hours, which her husband, chartered accountant Anshul Dhawan, initially passed as a robbery attempt by unknown attackers.

Anshul called the police on late night around 11:00 pm, claiming that he and his wife had been attacked by unknown people while coming back from a dinner. However, when police reached on the spot and recorded his statement, they soon found inconsistencies in his complaint. According to investigators, he kept changing his statements and failed to describe the alleged attackers, raising suspicion.
When questioned strictly, Anshul eventually broke down and confessed to the murder. Police said he had been suspicious of Mahak’s character, who worked at HDFC Bank in Gurugram and led to frequent arguments between the couple. Mahak’s father, Krishna Kathuria, said he had suspected his son-in-law from the beginning.

"Don't Paint Us As Delhi's

Harsh Singh and his wife, Ruby Jain, hit national headlines after a video of them abusing three women from Arunachal Pradesh went viral and sparked outrage.

New Delhi:
Harsh Singh, who hurled racist abuses along with his wife at three Northeastern women living in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, has said they are "ashamed" and apologised to the people of the Northeast. Singh and his wife, Ruby, hit national headlines after a video of them abusing three women from Arunachal Pradesh went viral and sparked outrage.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta met with the women affected by the incident on Wednesday. "Strictest action will be taken against those involved in this incident. There is absolutely no place for hatred, discrimination, intimidation, or racial abuse in Delhi. Such behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated under any circumstances," Rekha Gupta wrote on X.

"I also request all concerned to respect the privacy of the young students and their families," she added.

At the centre of the altercation was an electrical installation that the three Arunachal women were getting done at their rented home. During the work, some dust fell into the couple's home downstairs. This started an argument that took a racist turn. Harsh Singh and Ruby Jain made racist and derogatory remarks, calling the three women "momo" and saying they run a massage parlour and are sex workers. Ruby Jain is also heard saying that her husband is the son of a customs officer and a politician.

In the video, the Northeastern women are seen protesting the racist insults that the couple hurled in the presence of police personnel. The video sparked massive outrage, with Chief Ministers and prominent voices from the Northeast demanding strict action against the couple. Delhi Police registered a case under sections relating to outraging the modesty of a woman, criminal intimidation and promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between different religious, racial, language, or regional groups.

Harsh Singh has now spoken to news agency ANI and said he and his wife made the derogatory remarks in the "heat of the moment". "We are showing complete cooperation with Delhi Police and we have complete faith that the police and Indian judiciary stand with us and will clear everything through an unbiased investigation. We are definitely ashamed. I am not such a person, but it was in the heat of the moment. We did not intend to do so," he said, his face covered by a mask.

"I want to ask the social media users to listen to both sides of the story. The videos show our reaction. Our property was damaged... the situation escalated after the woman came... Please don't do media trials; the Indian judiciary is above that. I trust Delhi Police will bring the truth to the forefront. We will accept whatever punishment we get, but don't paint us as Delhi's darinde (brutal) couple. We don't deserve this. I am being sent obscene, doctored images of my mother on social media. Our family and profession should not be dragged into this. I am ashamed, and I personally apologise to all the Northeastern people," he said.

Social media users, however, trashed the apology and said the remarks do not reflect a momentary rage, but ingrained racism. Others pointed out how harassment faced by Northeastern people in various parts of the country are part of a pattern and not isolated incidents.

Amid growing outrage, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Union Minister for Development of Northeastern Region, said he was "deeply disturbed by the racial harassment" the three Arunachal women faced.

"A minor residential issue escalating into abuse and intimidation rooted in prejudice is profoundly shameful. Spoke with Hon'ble CM of Arunachal Pradesh, @PemaKhanduBJP ji, and took up the matter with the Commissioner of Delhi Police. Have sought immediate and stringent action. An FIR has been registered and I am assured the accused will be apprehended swiftly. Any injustice against our brothers and sisters from the Northeast will not be tolerated. Their safety and dignity are paramount to us," the minister said on X.

Engineering Student Among 5 Arrested For Robbery In Coimbatore

The engineering student allegedly played a key role in identifying and sharing information about students who lived alone in rented houses or private accommodations.

Chennai:
A five-member gang, including a second-year engineering student, has been arrested in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore for allegedly robbing mobile phones, laptops, and cash from students living alone in private residences at knifepoint.

According to police, the engineering student, who is from Sivaganga district, allegedly played a key role in identifying and sharing information about students who lived alone in rented houses or private accommodations.

Investigators say the gang used this information to plan and execute robberies.

The March 3 crime came to light after some victims approached the police with complaints that their phones, laptops, and cash had been robbed at knifepoint.

Police said they traced the suspects to a location following the complaint, but the arrest operation turned violent.

When officers approached the group, one of the suspects allegedly stabbed a sub-inspector. In response, police opened fire in self-defence and shot one of the accused in the leg before securing the arrest of all five.

Speaking about the operation, Coimbatore Superintendent of Police K Karthikeyan said four of the arrested men already have cases registered against them.

"We have arrested five persons. Four of them have attempt-to-murder and robbery cases. One of them is a second-year engineering student from Sivaganga. He gave shelter to the accused and helped them identify locations where students stay alone," the SP said.

Police say the case has revealed what they describe as a worrying new pattern of crimes involving students in the city.

Just days earlier, police had arrested a group of five students--including two graduates and three currently studying--for allegedly selling ganja to students living in private residences.

SP Karthikeyan said police have now intensified surveillance and searches to dismantle such networks.

"We have intensified searches and are breaking this network," he added.

NEET Exam Wasn't The Reason Lucknow Man Killed, Chopped Up His Father

In an act of revenge, Akshat went to his father's room around 4 am, took the rifle, and shot him in his sleep.

Lucknow:
Hours before Akshat Pratap Singh murdered his father and chopped the body into pieces, the two engaged in a heated argument over the accused stealing money to pay for the renewal of a liquor licence, their neighbour revealed.

On the night of February 19, Manvendra Singh returned home to find that Rs 50 lakh cash was missing. When he questioned his accused son, he found out that Akshat had stolen the money for a liquor contract - the online application for which was expiring on February 23, the neighbour said. This soon turned into a heated argument when Manvendra, enraged, slapped Akshat and pointeda rifle at him.

In an act of revenge, Akshat went to his father's room around 4 am, took the rifle, and shot him in his sleep. Minutes later, he moved the body from the third floor of the family home to a vacant room on the ground floor, where he used a machine to dismember the body. Sources said that he severed the legs below the knees, chopped off both hands, and decapitated the victim. He then disposed of the chopped parts near Sadrauna on the outskirts of Lucknow - around 21 kilometres away from his home, over two days.

The accused had kept his father's torso in a blue drum, wrapped in a sleeping bag, inside his car. As he was leaving to dispose it off on February 22, the liquor shop accountant arrived at his house, leading him to cancel his plan.

Sources also revealed that the accused used a room freshener to keep the stench away.

The grisly crime was witnessed by the accused's sister - whom he reportedly threatened into silence.

In a move to divert the police, Akshat also filed a missing person report for his father.

Accused stole cash, jewellery from father

A few days before the killing, Akshat had stolen jewellery and cash from the house and blamed the maid for the theft. According to the accused's neighbour, he stole it to buy expensive gifts for his girlfriend and to indulge in debauchery. His father was aware of Akshat's relationship, he told NDTV.

"He was addicted to drugs, which troubled Manavendra," he added.

The accused also transferred a large amount of money to another unidentified person's bank account. The cops are investigating the bank details, officials said.

Accused's regret

When Akshat was leaving the court, NDTV questioned him whether he regretted killing his father.

Without raising his head or saying a word, Akshat nodded "yes".

He also denied the involvement of any other family member in the incident.

Man Hammers Boy To Death, Drinks Blood, Tries To Eat Flesh, Say Villagers

According to the police, the boy had no dispute with the accused and was simply walking to his sister's home for Bhai Dooj when the attack occurred.

Bhai Dooj, a day meant to celebrate the bonds between siblings, turned into a scene of horror in Samanna village in Madhya Pradesh's Damoh, where a 16-year-old boy was killed in broad daylight, allegedly by a man with a violent criminal past who had recently come out of jail.

Bharat Vishwakarma was on his way to meet his sister when Gudda Patel allegedly attacked him from behind with a rod, then struck him repeatedly with a hammer, killing him on the spot around 1:30 pm. What followed, eyewitnesses claim, shocked the villagers, as Patel allegedly drank blood from the boy's head and tried to eat flesh before fleeing into nearby fields.

According to the police, the boy had no dispute with the accused and was simply walking to his sister's home for Bhai Dooj when the attack occurred. The suddenness of the attack, the brutality of the blows, and the disturbing allegations made by witnesses have sent panic through the village, with residents describing it as something they had never seen before.

Within minutes, people rushed to the spot and claimed they saw the accused behaving in an "inhuman" manner, standing near the body instead of running away immediately, and acting with chilling calm.

Bhagwandas Patel, an eyewitness, said Patel lived nearby and had just returned from jail, where he had served time for the murder of his wife. He said an unknown boy was passing by when Patel knocked him down with a rod and began drinking blood from his head. Patel then brought a hammer and, in a horrifying act, appeared to try to eat flesh from the boy's head before trying to escape. Villagers, he said, chased him down, while police also arrived, and he was eventually surrounded and caught.

Vijay Vishwakarma, the boy's brother, said there was no argument or provocation and no known dispute between them. He said his son was on his way to his sister's house when he was struck from behind with a hammer. The family has been left in shock, struggling to understand how a festival visit ended in a killing that has horrified the entire area.

Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Damoh, HR Pandey, confirmed that the victim was Bharat Vishwakarma, aged 16, and that the incident took place around 1:30 pm. When the boy passed through the area, Patel allegedly knocked him down and then attacked him with a hammer, killing him, he said.

The officer said Patel tried to flee but was surrounded and caught by villagers. Pandey also confirmed that the accused had previously served jail time for murdering his wife and that it is being said that he had developed a mental disorder, for which he will be medically examined.

The incident has raised serious questions over the need to monitor individuals with violent histories after release.

Police said an investigation is underway, statements are being recorded, and a medical assessment will be conducted to determine the attacker's mental condition.

Samanna village remains shaken, with residents describing the incident as a nightmare.

Mumbai: A small argument over speaking loudly on a video call turned deadly in Mumbai’s Pydhonie area, where police arrested a 19-year-old youth for allegedly killing his 39-year-old neighbour. The victim, Vipul Karamkar, was a daily wage labourer living in the Masjid Bundar area. The accused, Ibrahim alias Kalu Shaikh, also lived in the same locality, according to a report.

Police said the incident happened on Monday when Karamkar was talking to a woman on a video call. Shaikh reportedly asked him to speak softly. The argument soon turned into a fight. During the scuffle, Shaikh allegedly beat Karamkar and banged his head against the cement road, causing serious injuries. Karamkar later died due to his injuries, as per Times of India.

After receiving information, the Pydhonie police reached the spot and arrested the accused. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Class 10 Student Sends Bomb Threat To School. He Wanted Board Exam Postponed

The Vadodara Cyber Crime Cell has traced a bomb threat sent to a local school back to one of its own students.

Vadodara:
A class 10 student sent a bomb threat to his own school in an attempt to postpone his ongoing CBSE board examinations.

The incident unfolded on March 5. At approximately 3:43 am, Santoshkumar Tiwari, a mathematics teacher at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 3, Makarpura, received a message on his WhatsApp from an international number beginning with a +1 country code.

The message, originally written in Arabic, translated to, "Your school will be completely destroyed tomorrow, God is great, Allahu Akbar." Upon seeing the message at 8:00 am, the teacher immediately alerted school principal Jitendrakumar Dhadoch and local authorities.

The threat triggered immediate security protocols. Bomb disposal squads and local police cordoned off the Makarpura Air Force Station area, where the school is located, and conducted a thorough sweep of the premises. While no explosives were found and the exams proceeded as scheduled, the hoax created significant panic among students, staff, and parents across Vadodara.

An FIR was registered on March 12 following a preliminary inquiry. The case was initially filed against "unknown persons" under sections 351(3), 351(4), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66-C of the IT Act.

However, investigators from the Cyber Cell soon narrowed the search. The Vadodara Cyber Crime Cell has traced a bomb threat sent to a local school back to one of its own students. Driven by an attempt to avoid the pressure of the examinations, the student had used a virtual number to send the threat, hoping it would lead to a temporary closure of the campus.

The police have confirmed that the threat was a hoax intended solely for mischief. Authorities are now focusing on the legal procedures involving the juvenile while emphasising the urgent need for mental health support and counselling for students during the high-stakes exam season

Bengaluru Woman Alleges Phone Theft at Chinnaswamy Stadium: "Organised Crime"

A Bengaluru woman has come forward alleging that her husband's phone was stolen at Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The woman, Ritu Tiwary, claimed that not just her husband's, but also around 50-60 phones were stolen from the P3 stand-alone, with many victims reporting similar incidents. In an Instagram post, she revealed that her husband had left his phone on his seat to grab some water during the first innings break. When he returned, the phone was gone.

"...We went to ask the stadium police for some help, but they were least interested. So we went back to the police station where there were lots of people complaining about the same," she said in the video.

The woman alleged that the thefts appear to be organised. "This shouldn't go unheard because it's such an organised crime where so many phone's were stolen and it's such a breach of trust & security," she wrote in the caption.

She has filed an FIR and urged the public to be vigilant. "I request Bangalore Police to take strict action against this and get hold of the belongings and criminals," she added.

In the video, she said that the police had "already caught 10 to 12 kids and they were all minors dressed in jerseys and they also had complimentary tickets." The suspects were wearing RCB jerseys and had complimentary match tickets. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators.

"...When I looked up on Google, the same thing happened at the Chennai and Wankhede stadiums as well. So this is happening at all the IPL matches. Most of this thing happened at the second innings when lots of people went out to get some drinking water or some refreshments."

The incident has raised concerns about security at the stadium. Fans are demanding better crowd monitoring and surveillance. The post gained significant traction with over 314,000 views and nearly 10,000 likes.

"I am sorry hear the loss but please don't spread panic and fear unnecessarily. I have attended multiple matches at Wankhede and have never faced such instances or any of my friend also faced the same. It can be a fringe incident and not a IPL-wide issue. Stop generalizing," one user wrote.

"Really concerning, people should feel safe at public events," another user wrote.

"Why keep your phone unattended. We have a habit of holding our phones in our hand even when we don't need it. Keep it in your purse or pocket securely," a third user suggested.

Delhi DDA Flat Horror: Man Kills Wife With Mini LPG Cylinder In Front Of Child; Body Found Lying In Pool Of Blood

A Delhi man was arrested from his DDA flat after he killed his wife using a mini LPG cylinder even as his 18-month-old toddler watched the distressing crime.

New Delhi: A Delhi man bludgeoned his wife to death using a household mini LPG gas cylinder on Sunday night. The incident happened inside their DDA flat in south Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area following a domestic dispute between the two. Such was the impact of the hit that it resulted in the woman's immediate death.
As per the police, the couple has two children. One resides with their grandmother, while the other - an 18-month-old infant, was present inside the house at the time of the killing. The incident occurred around 9.30 pm.

The police said that the couple had moved into the DDA housing complex just a month ago. According to a neighbour, the man suspected his wife of having an affair.
The police said that the woman's screams alerted the neighbours who arrived at the scene. However, the door of the house was found locked from inside. The neighbours, with the landlord's help, forced open the door and were met with a gruesome scene inside. The woman's body was found lying in a pool of blood while the husband was sitting nearby with the infant in his lap

The man, identified as Suresh, was arrested at the scene. The wife has been identified as Poonam.

Preliminary police investigations suggest that the crime may have been spurred by extreme suspicion. The police have launched a probe to determine if the act was pre-planned.
This is the latest in a series of domestic killings rocking the NCR region. Earlier this month, the Delhi Police arrested a vegetable seller for the murder of his wife and their three children. The incident happened in Samaypur Badli. The accused, identified as Munchun Kewat, was arrested in Rajasthan. He initially claimed that he committed the murders due to mounting debt. However, the claims are still being verified.

Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk, Detained For Nearly 6 Months, To Be Released

Sonam Wangchuk was detained on September 26 last year, two days after violent protests over statehood and constitutional protection left four people dead and 50, including security personnel, injured in Ladakh's Leh.

New Delhi:
Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was detained for nearly six months under the National Security Act (NSA) for allegedly inciting a mob with provocative statements in Ladakh's Leh, will be released, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said.

The ministry decided to revoke Wangchuk's detention by exercising the powers available under the NSA after "due consideration".

The Centre, in its statement, said that Wangchuk had undergone nearly half of the period of detention under the NSA.

"Government remains committed to fostering an environment of peace, stability, and mutual trust in Ladakh to facilitate constructive and meaningful dialogue with all stakeholders. In furtherance of this objective, and after due consideration, the Government/MHA decides to revoke the detention of Sonam Wangchuk with immediate effect. Government reiterates its commitment to providing all necessary safeguards for Ladakh," it said.

It added that the central government has been "actively engaging with various stakeholders and community leaders in Ladakh with a view to addressing the aspirations and concerns of the people of the region".

"However, the prevailing atmosphere of 'bandhs' and protests has been detrimental to the peace-loving character of the society and has adversely affected various sections of the community, including students, job aspirants, businesses, tour operators, tourists and the overall economy. The Government reiterates its commitment to providing all necessary safeguards for Ladakh. It remains hopeful that the issues concerning the region will be resolved through constructive engagement and dialogue, including through the mechanism of the High-Powered Committee as well as other appropriate platforms," the statement read.

Wangchuk was detained on September 26 last year, two days after violent protests over statehood and constitutional protection left four people dead and 50, including security personnel, injured in Ladakh's Leh. He was detained under the NSA on the orders of the district magistrate, Leh, to "maintain public order" and was then transferred to Jodhpur prison.

The climate activist had been protesting over the effects of climate change on Ladakh's fragile ecosystem and demanding that the Union Territory be provided safeguards under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution since 2023. Last year, he held a 35-day fast to press the statehood demand. This soon turned into a violent protest, following which Wangchuk called off his fast saying that his "message of peaceful path had failed".

The detention of the activist, a key figure in the five-year-long agitation for Ladakh's rights, had drawn strong reactions from the opposition leaders - who blamed the central government's handling of the situation.

Gitanjali Angmo, Wangchuk's wife and educator, had challenged his detention in the Supreme Court. During the hearing, the top court had pulled up the Centre over the translation of Wangchuk's speech - based on which he was detained.

According to the court, there was a "certain malice" if the transcription of a 3-minute speech runs for 7-8 minutes.

Shashi Tharoor welcomes move

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor welcomed the Centre's decision to revoke Wangchuk's detention, but called for the Supreme Court to evolve a "strict norm" for the maximum period of detention permissible. According to Tharoor, Wangchuk's detention for 169 days has been an "inordinately long time".

"Delighted that the Centre has revoked @sonamwangchuck 's detention, but 169 days seems to have been an inordinately long time. The @SupremeCourtGOI needs to evolve a strict norm for maximum periods of detention permissible without trial. Indefinite detention is an undemocratic practice left over from the colonial era. It has no place in a mature democracy," he wrote in a post on X.

Supreme Court Grants Bail To 2 Accused In Sidhu Moose Wala Murder Case

Pawan Bishnoi was allegedly booked in connection with arranging a Bolero car used in the shooting that killed Moosewala, while Jagtar Singh was booked on a separate ground, along with more than 20 others, in the high-profile murder case.

The Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to Pawan Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh, both linked to the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.

Pawan Bishnoi was allegedly booked in connection with arranging a Bolero car used in the shooting that killed Moosewala, while Jagtar Singh was booked on a separate ground, along with more than 20 others, in the high-profile murder case.

A bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the order after hearing submissions by counsels representing both accused men.

Advocate Abhay Kumar, who appeared for Bishnoi, argued that his client was wrongly booked by the authorities for aiding in the crime by arranging the Bolero at the behest of infamous Canada-based gangster Goldie Brar, who is the prime accused in Mossewala's murder.

As per Kumar, Pawan Bishnoi, while being in custody in another case, was booked in connection with the Mooselwala murder based on a confessional statement made by him. There was no other material in support of his involvement in the case, the lawyer added.

Kumar also highlighted that there were around 180 prosecution witnesses in the case and that the petitioner had already been in custody for more than 3.5 years.

Meanwhile, counsel for Jagtar Singh argued that Singh was merely a neighbour and had not assisted in conducting the alleged reconnaissance related to the incident.

The accused duo had approached the top court after their pleas seeking bail were denied by the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

After considering the submissions from both sides, the Court found it appropriate to grant bail to the accused men.

Inspired By 'Special 26', Man Fakes IT Raid, Steals 1 Kg Gold, Arrested

Police recovered 130.162 grams of the stolen gold and impounded a motorcycle used in the crime from the possession of Sheikh Akram, a resident of Madangir in south Delhi.

New Delhi:
A 49-year-old man was arrested for allegedly robbing a jewellery workshop in central Delhi's Karol Bagh by posing as a member of an Income Tax raid team after being inspired by the Bollywood movie 'Special 26', police said on Wednesday.

Five people were earlier arrested in connection with the case.

Police recovered 130.162 grams of the stolen gold and impounded a motorcycle used in the crime from the possession of Sheikh Akram, a resident of Madangir in south Delhi.

On November 27, five to six men allegedly entered the jewellery-making workshop, they said. One of the accused was wearing a fake Delhi Police uniform, while others posed as Income Tax officials.

"The accused seized the mobile phones of the owner and workers, conducted a fraudulent search of the premises and decamped with around 1.1 kg of gold. They also removed the CCTV DVR before fleeing," a senior police officer said.

Based on the complaint, a case was registered under the relevant Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections. During the investigation, five accused were earlier arrested while Akram remained at large.

A police team laid a trap and conducted a raid at a guest house in the CR Park area on December 14 based on specific inputs regarding his movement in south Delhi.

After verifying his identity through technical and manual surveillance, the accused was arrested. During interrogation, Akram admitted his role in the crime, police said.

They said he had been working in jewellery-making units in Karol Bagh for several years and had shared details of such establishments with the mastermind of the racket, Parminder, a government employee who was arrested earlier.

"The information provided by Akram was used to plan the fake raid to earn quick money," the officer said.

Further investigation is underway to recover the remaining stolen gold and to trace other links in the case, police added.

Robbers Posing As Income Tax Officers Loot Gold, Cash From Contractor's Home

The gang escaped with 500 grams of gold, cash, and mobile phones after locking the residents inside their own house.

In a robbery that appears straight out of the Bollywood thriller Special 26, five men posing as Income Tax officials looted a contractor's home in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Friday. The gang escaped with 500 grams of gold, cash, and mobile phones after locking the residents inside their own house.

The heist unfolded around 10:00 am in the Brahmin Mohalla area of Bagh town. The accused arrived in a black Scorpio SUV and targeted the residence of contractor Rajkumar Malvi.

Upon entering, the men identified themselves as officers from the Income Tax Department. They claimed to have received information regarding "black money" stored on the premises. Believing the raid to be a genuine government operation, Malvi cooperated as the men searched wardrobes, trunks, and cupboards.

The impostors eventually demanded the keys to the family locker. They seized approximately 50 tolas (500 grams) of gold jewelry, Rs 4 lakh in cash, and three mobile phones. To ensure a clean escape, the gang locked Malvi and his wife, Krishna, inside a room before fleeing the scene

The couple remained trapped until Malvi managed to alert neighbours, who then informed the police. Senior officers, including Kukshi SDOP Sunil Gupta and Bagh TI Kailash Chauhan, reached the spot to begin the investigation. During a search of the escape route, police recovered one of the stolen mobile phones from a garbage dump near a bypass road.

Dhar Superintendent of Police Mayank Awasthi stated that the crime appears to be a well-coordinated robbery. "A cyber team has been sent to Bagh, and police across the district are on high alert. CCTV footage of the black Scorpio is being analysed, and teams are searching for the accused," he said.

Police have released CCTV images of the vehicle used in the crime and have urged the public to share any relevant information. A case of robbery and impersonation has been registered at the Bagh Police Station. Investigators believe the gang may have conducted prior reconnaissance of the area before executing the raid.

Video: Thief Tries To Break Into House, Gets Stuck In Exhaust Fan Hole

His head inside the house and his leg dangling outside, the thief issued a threat to the homeowners in Rajasthan's Kota.

Subhash Kumar Rawat, a resident of Kota in Rajasthan, had gone to a temple with his wife and when they returned on Sunday night, nothing could have prepared the couple for the sight that awaited them: a man was stuck in a hole meant for an exhaust fan in their house.

The Rawats immediately began screaming and when they regained their composure, they asked the man what he was doing. Suspended 10 feet above the ground with his head and arms inside the house and his legs dangling outside, the man told them he was a thief. Others would have given up in the impossible situation, but the man chose to issue threats instead.

The thief told the couple that some of his accomplices were nearby and warned them that harm would come to them if they did not let him go.

The Rawats immediately informed the police and videos show the thief holding on to a rod as police personnel try to free him. One cop on the outside and two inside, the man can be seen being pulled into the house, wincing and crying out in pain. Another man standing on the ground holds him and he is finally able to stand uncertainly on his feet.

Officials said the man has been arrested and is being interrogated. His accomplices fled after he got stuck and the car in which they reached the house has also been seized. The car, they said, has a 'police' sticker and they are trying to find out how the gang procured it.

Delhi Sees Decline In Vehicle Theft Cases, Yet One Stolen Every Fifteen Minutes

Delhi sees a vehicle stolen every 15 minutes despite a decline in motor vehicle thefts from 40045 cases in 2023 to 35014 in 2025, police data reveals.

New Delhi:
Despite a year-wise decline in vehicle theft cases since 2023, Delhi continues to witness the theft of a vehicle every 15 minutes on average, official data showed.

According to Delhi Police data, cases of motor vehicle (MV) theft have steadily fallen over the last three years, from 40,045 cases in 2023 to 39,976 in 2024 and further down to 35,014 in 2025.

However, the latest figures still translate into nearly 96 vehicles being stolen every day across the city, a senior police officer said.

Police said that vehicle theft remains one of the most prevalent crimes in Delhi, forming nearly 20 per cent of the total crimes reported in the city

"While sustained enforcement and technological interventions have helped reduce numbers, the absolute volume of cases remains a serious concern," the officer said.

The problem is not limited to Delhi alone. The National Capital Region (NCR) continues to be a hotspot for vehicle theft, accounting for over 56 per cent of such cases reported across the country, police said.

The interlinked road networks, easy interstate movement and high density of vehicles make the region particularly vulnerable to organised theft rackets, they added.

The data also indicates that while MV theft has declined, it still remains higher than other major property-related crimes in the city. In 2025, Delhi reported 6,617 burglary cases and 16,246 house theft cases, compared to 35,014 motor vehicle thefts.

Police attributed the gradual fall in MV theft cases to increased use of CCTV surveillance, automated number plate recognition (ANPR) systems, data-driven policing and frequent interstate coordination to dismantle vehicle-lifting gangs.

"Recoveries have improved, and several organised gangs have been busted, but demand for stolen vehicles and spare parts continues to fuel the crime," a senior officer said.

Ball Hits Door, Teacher Fires at Children Playing Outside; One Injured While Fleeing in West Bengal

Bengal Teacher Opens Fire at Children: A primary school teacher in Banipur allegedly fired an air gun at children playing nearby, injuring one. He claimed it was to scare them; police have arrested him

Bengal Teacher Opens Fire at Children: A primary school teacher has been arrested for allegedly opening fire from his air gun on a group of children who were playing outside his residence in the Banipur area under the jurisdiction of the Raghunathganj police station in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Samir Kumar Mondal, a teacher at Omorpur Primary School. The incident reportedly occurred when a group of 10 to 12 children were playing in a vacant field near Mondal’s house, as they did on most days.

Local residents claimed that the children’s ball would occasionally land inside the teacher’s property while they were playing. Mondal had allegedly warned them earlier not to play in the field for this reason. On the day of the incident, when the ball once again struck the door of his house, he allegedly became enraged and fired multiple rounds from what witnesses described as a bird-hunting gun.

During the chaos, one child was struck in the hand by a bullet while attempting to flee. The injured child was immediately rescued and taken to Jangipur Subdivisional Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

The child’s father, Biswajit Saha, alleged that Mondal fired four to five rounds toward the children. “The children were playing as usual when the ball hit his door. Suddenly, he fired at them. As they tried to run, my son was hit in the hand,” Saha said.
Following the information, a team of Raghunathganj Police Station arrived at the scene and took the accused into custody from his house. They also recovered the firearm from his home. However, authorities are determining the exact type of weapon used, with preliminary assessments suggesting it may have been a modern air gun.

'Only to Scare Him, Did Not Mean Hurt Them'

Responding to the accusations, the accused claimed that he had fired the shot to scare the children away. He said he did not intend to injure anyone. The incident has sparked outrage and tension in the locality. Police officials stated that a detailed investigation is underway and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings.

DMK Youth Wing Member Arrested For Alleged Sexual Assault, Murder Of Toddler

The victim is the child of the suspect Periyanayagam's live-in partner, who is estranged from her husband, investigators said.

Chennai:
A functionary of the youth wing of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has been arrested for the alleged sexual assault and murder of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Tamil Nadu's Krishnagiri district, police said.

The victim is the child of the suspect Periyanayagam's live-in partner, who is estranged from her husband, investigators said. According to the police, the child developed health complications in December and was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared dead.

However, the girl's biological father suspected suspicious circumstances and raised concerns with the authorities, prompting a detailed probe. A post-mortem examination reportedly revealed internal injuries, strengthening suspicions of sexual assault. The final forensic report is awaited.

A senior police officer told NDTV, "The suspect has confessed to sexually assaulting the baby. We have arrested him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act." Police have also invoked murder charges. Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and gather additional evidence.

The incident has triggered a political storm in the state, with the opposition accusing the government of failing to curb crimes against women and children. Aadhav Arjuna, General Secretary of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), slammed the ruling DMK, alleging that "crime against women is increasing day by day" and that the government's "indifference has emboldened those with a criminal mindset."

Responding to the criticism, the DMK government said stringent measures are in place to deal with crimes against women and children and that the law will take its course. The party pointed to the swift investigation and fast-tracked trials in cases such as the sexual assault case linked to Anna University, where convictions were secured.

With Tamil Nadu heading into Assembly elections in the coming months, incidents involving crimes against women and children are expected to emerge as a key political flashpoint, intensifying the war of words between the ruling party and the opposition.

"We Are Responsible Citizens": Parents Respond After Mahindra Thar Surprise For Class 10 Student Sparks Outrage

Responding to the backlash, Makarandd Taayadey, the father of the teenager, issued a clarification on Facebook, explaining that the vehicle was never intended for their son to drive.

A video showing a Class 10 student being surprised with a brand-new Mahindra Thar ROXX after completing his board examinations has sparked widespread debate on social media. While some viewers initially criticised the parents for allegedly gifting a luxury SUV to a minor, the family has now clarified that the vehicle was not bought for their son but for themselves.

The video, which has been widely shared on social media, shows the boy's parents walking toward the school gate while recording themselves. His father hints at a “big surprise” as they wait for their son to come out after the exam. As soon as the school gates open, his parents spot him in the crowd, and as he approaches them, his mother greets him with a warm hug and shouts, "That's our car!" The boy appears visibly excited as the family celebrates the moment.

However, the clip triggered a wave of online criticism, with many users questioning the message such gestures send, especially when the recipient is under the legal driving age. Several users expressed concern that gifting a high-end vehicle to a Class 10 student could encourage irresponsible behavior or promote material rewards for academic milestones.

Responding to the backlash, Makarandd Taayadey, the father of the teenager, issued a clarification on Facebook, explaining that the vehicle was never intended for their son to drive and calling the videos "misleading." According to him, the car was purchased for the family, and they simply chose to surprise their son with the reveal as a celebratory gesture after his exams.

"Only my wife and I will drive this vehicle with all precautions, as responsible Indian citizens," he said while addressing the controversy. They emphasised that their son is aware that he cannot drive the vehicle until he reaches the legal age and obtains a proper license.

Underage driving in India

Many social media users pointed out that the video has reignited concerns about underage driving in India. Several noted that despite strict traffic regulations, instances of minors driving cars and motorcycles continue to surface across the country.

In India, the legal age to drive a car is 18, and a valid driving licence is mandatory under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Over the years, authorities have repeatedly warned parents and guardians about allowing minors to operate vehicles, stressing that it poses serious safety risks. Some users also pointed out that underage driving has been linked to several accidents in recent years, raising questions about enforcement and parental responsibility.

Others added that in many cities, it is not uncommon to see teenagers riding scooters or driving cars without licenses, particularly near schools and residential areas. These users argued that parents should play a stronger role in ensuring that young people follow traffic rules and understand the responsibilities that come with driving.

Over 130 Arrested In Visa, Passport Fraud Crackdown In India Last Year

The arrests were made from different parts of the country as part of a drive against organised networks involved in forging travel documents, cheating passengers and facilitating illegal overseas travel.

The Delhi Police arrested over 130 individuals in 2025, including travel agents and facilitators, as part of its crackdown on visa and passport fraud.

In a first-of-its-kind move, the IGI Airport unit of the Delhi Police also initiated financial investigations against the accused agents to trace proceeds of crime, leading to the freezing of more than 100 bank accounts with suspicious transactions, he said.

The arrests were made from different parts of the country as part of a drive against organised networks involved in forging travel documents, cheating passengers and facilitating illegal overseas travel.

"Investigating officers were specifically directed to examine the financial aspects of the frauds and establish the money trail," a senior police officer said on Friday, adding that although a large portion of the payments in such cases was made in cash, investigators were still able to identify significant financial links.

Police said assets suspected to have been acquired from proceeds of criminal activities are being identified. In one case, an application has already been filed before a competent court seeking attachment of property belonging to an accused agent. Similar action is being initiated against other agents where evidence permits, officials said.

Police also got 140 lookout circulars (LOCs) issued in 2025 to prevent absconding accused from fleeing the country. As a result, several offenders attempting to travel abroad were intercepted at airports, they said.

The crackdown also resulted in the arrest of 119 proclaimed offenders, including individuals wanted in cases that were more than a decade old, police added.

Apart from visa and passport fraud, police intensified action against touting and theft from passenger baggage and cargo areas. More than 300 cases of touting were registered during the year, leading to the arrest of over 400 people, officials said.

In cases related to theft from baggage and cargo, over 60 people were arrested. Police said ground handling staff of concerned airlines were also questioned as part of the investigation to ascertain possible involvement or negligence.

Elephant Tusks Worth Rs 2 Crore Stolen From Military Camp After DJ Party

The tusks, which had been displayed inside the officers' mess, were found missing on Thursday following a DJ party organised the previous night.

Two elephant tusks worth around Rs 2 crore have allegedly been stolen from the Pangode military station in Thiruvananthapuram following a party at the officers' club. NDTV has accessed a First Information Report (FIR) of a startling security breach inside a high-security military zone.

The tusks, which had been displayed inside the officers' mess, were found missing on Thursday following a DJ party organised the previous night. The event reportedly involved not just military personnel but also technicians who had been brought in for sound and lighting arrangements.

According to the FIR, unknown persons allegedly entered the officers' mess and removed the tusks sometime between February 11 and February 12 morning. The case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police sources said access to the Pangode military camp is tightly controlled, requiring multiple layers of security clearance, making the theft particularly shocking. Investigators are examining whether individuals familiar with the premises may have been involved or a professional gang operated this theft.

Preliminary investigation is focusing on people who entered the premises from outside for the party. CCTV footage is being examined, and both city police and military intelligence have launched parallel probes. Senior police officials have begun recording detailed statements from officers and staff connected to the event.

Seventeen civilians including minors were called in for questioning.

NDTV has learned that the tusks were handed over to the military station decades ago by the state government with the assurance that they would be safely preserved and returned upon request. The Forest Department had earlier declined a fresh request from the camp seeking additional tusks due to lack of central approval.

Ex-Nurse Loses Life Savings Worth Rs 48 Lakh In Digital Arrest, 3 Arrested

The fraudsters coerced the retired nurse with a series of false and terrifying claims, including alleging that his PAN card was misused to open illegal bank accounts and a case has been registered against him in Delhi.

In yet another case of the "digital arrest" scam, a 75-year-old retired nurse in Andhra Pradesh lost his life's savings, Rs 48 lakh, after he was subjected to intense fear and panic.

The district police arrested three accused linked to the multi-state cyber fraud scam.

The victim's ordeal began with a sophisticated video call where fraudsters, masquerading as high-ranking officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED), instantly fabricated a legal crisis.

The fraudsters coerced Repuri Benjamin, a resident of Annamayya district, with a series of false and terrifying claims, including alleging that his PAN card was misused to open illegal bank accounts and a case has been registered against him in Delhi.

Claiming that Rs 48 lakh had been illegally deposited into his account through "hawala money," the fraudsters asked Benjamin to immediately return the money to avoid detention.

The fraudsters also harassed him with allegations such as a parcel in his name contained drugs or his Aadhaar card was used to obtain fake passports.

The scammers then put Benjamin under a fake "digital arrest," coercing him to isolate completely and remain on a continuous video call.

They strictly instructed Benjamin to not step outside or talk to anyone, ensuring he remained under maximum duress and was unable to verify the claims or seek help.

Over time, the fraudsters successfully extorted Rs 48 lakh from the retired nurse.

Cash worth Rs 32 lakh, several ATM cards, mobile phones, and SIM cards used to execute the fraud were seized by the Annamayya district police.

The authorities also subsequently froze an additional Rs 7.65 lakh across the accused persons' bank accounts.

Andhra Pradesh police chief, DGP Harish Kumar Gupta, commended the Annamayya district police for their swift and effective action in tracking, arresting, and dismantling the gang.

Delhi’s Uttam Nagar clash leaves 26-year-old Tarun Kumar dead; bulldozer demolishes accused’s house as police arrest 14, including two minors.

Day after, civic authorities on Sunday (March 8) demolished parts of a house belonging to the main accused in 26-year-old Tarun Kumar's death after he was beaten on the day of Holi in West Delhi’s Uttam Nagar, Delhi AIMIM President Shoaib Jamai called the incident as 'one sided narrative' and asking: "Who authorised the Delhi government to take this action, they are just trying to create more tensions in the area."

Jamai also mentioned that Tarun, the deceased also brought goons with him adding - "You molest people and then say Bura Na Maano, this is a criminal mindset" and pointing that "the other family was also looted, and both the families are victims." The bulldozer action razed the “encroached” portion of the three-storey house, which belongs to Umardeen (49) and his son Muzaffar (25). It came after political outfits had demanded strict punishment for the accused, who belong to a minority community. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday assured “strict and exemplary action” in the matter.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police arrested seven more people and apprehended a minor in the case. With the latest arrests, the total number of people arrested in the case have gone up to 14 including two minors. Among those arrested in the latest crackdown are three women, namely Sayra alias Kali (40), Sharifan (50) and Salma (36), all residents of Uttam Nagar. The other accused arrested include Suhail alias Sahil (21), Sameer Chauhan (20), Firoj (22) and Ismile (50), all residents of the same locality. Additionally, a 14-year-old minor has also been apprehended for his alleged role in the violence, police said.

According to police sources, as cited by PTI, Sayra alias Kali was the woman who allegedly got into an argument when a young girl from the victim's family threw a water balloon that burst, splashing water on Kali who was passing by the street. Following this, a verbal altercation broke out between members of the two families, which eventually led to a violent clash in the densely populated JJ Colony area on March 4.
During the clash, several people allegedly attacked Tarun (26), who sustained serious injuries. He was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on March 5, police said. The incident triggered tension in the locality, following which heavy deployment of police and paramilitary personnel was made in the area to maintain law and order.

Congress Leader's Unique Headstand Protest Over "False" Gunfire Case

The protest stemmed from a case registered in connection with celebratory firing during a Shiv Barat procession on Mahashivratri earlier this month.

Bhopal:
Bhopal witnessed a dramatic and unprecedented spectacle on the 10th day of the state Assembly's Budget Session as Congress MLA from Sheopur, Babu Jandel, performed Shirshasana or a headstand in protest against an FIR filed against him.

The protest stemmed from a case registered in connection with celebratory firing during a Shiv Barat procession on Mahashivratri earlier this month. What began as a procedural objection during Zero Hour quickly snowballed into chaos, sloganeering and a walkout by Congress MLAs.

During proceedings, Congress MLA Pankaj Upadhyay and party whip Sohan Valmiki raised the issue, demanding action against what they termed a "politically motivated FIR". When the Speaker said the matter would be forwarded to the concerned department, opposition members started protesting, alleging deliberate targeting of their colleague.

Minutes later, the Congress benches emptied and the drama moved outside the House.

In front of the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, Jandel performed a headstand an act he described as symbolic resistance against what he called "government pressure and false cases". "A false FIR is being filed against me under pressure from the government. Three FIRs in one month...15 so far. Whenever I raise my voice, an FIR follows. They want to put me in jail. They want to kill me," he said.

Jandel said BJP leaders face no action for similar acts. "When BJP leaders fire shots or dance with weapons, no FIR is filed. I fired just one celebratory round during a religious procession. I am not a terrorist with an AK-47. I was the host of a yajna," he added.

Jandel warned that if the case is not withdrawn, he will escalate the agitation. "If the government doesn't withdraw these cases, I will protest at the Gandhi Ashram and take to the streets. Even if I have to go to jail or die by being shot, I won't be afraid," he said.

Jandel explained that on February 15, a large-scale religious event was organised in Sheopur. A three-day yajna was conducted with participation from thousands of saints and Brahmins. Lord Shiva's idol was installed after elaborate rituals, followed by a grand procession featuring palanquins, horses, flower showers, and firecrackers. "I was riding a horse," he said. "I fired one celebratory shot in honor of the deity. It was just one round." Police later registered an FIR over the firing incident.

The MLA linked the FIR to earlier protests. "Three months ago, I protested on an issue related to cows and submitted a memorandum to the Collector. An FIR was filed then too. The High Court has acquitted me in seven cases. All of them were false," he said.

Congress MLA Mahesh Parmar backed him strongly, "This government is anti-legislator. Criminals roam free, but elected representatives are targeted. When all avenues were closed, Babu Jandel took this path."

On the other hand, Cabinet Minister Govind Singh Rajput struck a measured tone. "Babu Jandel has made his point. An investigation will be conducted. If the case is found to be false, the government will take appropriate action," he said.

irupati police on Wednesday claimed to have busted an alleged conspiracy aimed at maligning the sanctity of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) and the holy Tirumala hills of Lord Venkateswara by spreading fake news on social media.

Two accused have been arrested, while another suspect is on the run.

The issue came to light on January 4, when several social media posts and news reports claimed that liquor bottles were found at Tirumala, including near the police guest house. The posts also alleged that alcohol was being freely smuggled into the hill shrine through the Alipiri toll gate.

Photographs of empty liquor bottles were circulated as proof, triggering concern among devotees. Following the reports, TTD authorities, police, and vigilance officials launched an immediate investigation.
Below is part of the same above article:

During the probe, a Tirumala police team led by Head Constable Roop Sekhar Naidu found nine empty 180-ml liquor bottles behind a parapet wall near bushes in the Balaji Colony area. Based on a complaint, a case was registered at the police station.

Police said the preliminary investigation established that the empty bottles had no connection with the police guest house, as claimed in the viral posts. Further examination of CCTV footage, vehicle movement data using FASTag, technical analysis, and Excise Department records helped officials trace the liquor bottles to shops in Tirupati.

Investigators found that the prime accused, Allapaka Koti, identified as a YSRCP activist from Tirupati, allegedly conspired with others to target the TTD and the police department.

“As part of a premeditated plan, empty liquor bottles were allegedly brought from Tirupati and dumped near the Kaustubham guest house compound wall in Balaji Colony. Subsequently, videos and photographs were recorded and circulated on social media to create a sensation and damage the reputation of the TTD and the government,'' the police officials said.

Police said Koti allegedly informed Navin, a YSRCP social media activist, who then alerted Mohan Krishna, a photographer working with a regional newspaper associated with the YSRCP. Mohan Krishna allegedly deputed photographers to the spot to record visuals, which were later shared online.

On Wednesday, police arrested Allapaka Koti and Mohan Krishna. Two mobile phones, a Swift Dzire car, and a laptop allegedly used in the offence were seized and sent for forensic examination.

Police said Mohan Krishna is allegedly withholding another mobile phone, claiming it was lost, and is not cooperating with the investigation.

The third accused, Navin, is currently on the run, and special teams have been formed to trace and arrest him. Investigations are continuing to identify the role of other individuals involved in the alleged conspiracy.

The issue has sparked a political row, with the ruling TDP sharing the police version and hailing the Tirupati police for exposing what it called a “conspiracy” to defame Tirumala, while targeting the YSRCP.

New Photos Link Former Kerala Minister to Sabarimala Gold Theft Accused

The image, reportedly taken during a visit by Surendran to Pottis home

Thiruvananthapuram:
A fresh controversy has broken out in the Sabarimala gold theft case after a new photograph emerged showing former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran with the prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, who was recently released on bail.

The image, reportedly taken during a visit by Surendran to Potti's home, shows the former minister giving a gift to a relative of the accused who had recently topped her university exams. While the exact purpose of the visit remains unclear, sources suggest this may have been the minister's second trip to the house.

Earlier photos had already shown Surendran at Potti's home alongside former Ranni MLA Raju Abraham, fueling a political standoff as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) continues to probe the alleged gold theft.

Reacting to the latest photos, Surendran said he only knew Potti as a devotee and denied any link to the crime. “Even if I had visited multiple times, I would openly admit it. I have no connection with this case,” he said.

The timing of these photos is significant, as the SIT probe itself is facing heavy criticism. The prime accused, Unnikrishnan Potti, was recently granted "statutory bail" because investigators failed to file a chargesheet within the required 90-day window. This delay has led to allegations that the investigation has lost its way.

Opposition leaders have accused the government of deliberately making procedural lapses to help the accused obtain bail. Meanwhile, the government has defended the delay, citing the complex forensic and legal work required for the case.

=Investigators are now planning more scientific tests after initial laboratory reports failed to prove whether the original gold-plated parts were actually replaced. This has created doubts about the strength of the evidence collected so far.

The SIT has also questioned political leaders across parties, including UDF convenor Adoor Prakash, over alleged links with the accused, a sign that the investigation is now moving beyond temple officials and contractors.

Probe Agency ED Conducts Multi-State Raids In Sabarimala Gold Theft Case

About 20 locations are being searched by the ED in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in connection with the Sabarimala temple gold theft case.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday intensified its probe into the Sabarimala temple gold theft case and conducted raids across multiple states. As many as 20 locations are being searched by the ED in Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu in connection with the case.

The Sabarimala gold theft case, which surfaced publicly in 2019, pertains to allegations that gold plating from temple idols and structural components was removed and siphoned off during repair and re-gold plating works. Investigators have traced the roots of the alleged irregularities back to 1998-99, when extensive gold plating was carried out at the hill shrine.

According to the investigation, in 2019, gold-coated idols weighing 42.8 kg were taken out of the temple for repair. When they were returned, their weight had reduced to 38.2 kg, indicating that around 4.5 kg of gold was missing. The idols of guardian deities and several temple components were sent to a private firm in Chennai for repairs and re-plating, a move the court later described as improper, as such work is usually conducted within the temple premises.

The Travancore Devaswom Board allegedly recorded gold plates as copper plates in official documents, which the court termed a serious lapse. A Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted on court orders, compared old and new photographs and found that gold plating had been removed from idols, doors, steps, and carved sections of the temple.

The SIT stated that while there is no direct evidence of gold theft from the main idol of Lord Ayyappa, gold has gone missing from other parts of the temple structure. Investigators further found that gold was chemically extracted from plates at the Chennai firm, re-plated in smaller quantities, and the extracted gold eventually reached a jeweller in Ballari, Karnataka.

So far, 11 people have been arrested, including contractor Unnikrishnan Potti, a Ballari-based jeweller, the owner of the Chennai firm, and three CPI(M) leaders, among them former MLA A. Padmakumar. The SIT had earlier also arrested the temple's chief priest.

The ED raids are aimed at uncovering the money trail, laundering of proceeds, and possible benami transactions linked to the missing gold. Further action is expected as the financial probe progresses.

"We Are From ED": How Help Planned Fake Raid On Her Employer In Delhi

The cops zeroed in on the culprits after scanning over 300 CCTV cameras for digital footprints and traced the car of the accused to Ghaziabad.

New Delhi:
It was 10:30 in the morning. Usha Sabharwal was not expecting any guests at her south Delhi bungalow in New Friends Colony on February 11.

The doorbell buzzed and the men at the other end introduced themsels as officers from the Enforcement Directorate, the top financial crimes agency.

"We are from the ED. The house will be searched and everything will be videographed," one of the men announced.

One among them started the videography, while another began taking out valuables from the bedroom cupboard of Sabharwals. The third person, sporting a fake uniform, immediately took possession of the phones of RC Sabharwal and his wife.

The men, speaking fluent English, started collecting cash. They also took jewellery and expensive watches from the house.

Meanwhile, Usha Sabharwal had another phone, which the people posing as ED officials were not aware of. Usha Sabharwal excused herself and went to the toilet and called her grandson, Gaurav, who is one of the lawyers for the central agency.

Gaurav immediately told her that this must be a fake ED team.

Usha Sabharwal went back and told the men that her grandson, who is a lawyer for the ED, is coming to speak to them.

Sensing danger, the three men decamped with Rs 3-4 lakh in cash, seven expensive watches and some jewellery.

The househelp, Rekha Devi, and her sister-in-law, Puja Rajput, turned out to be the masternind behind this.

Rekha Devi was working for the Sabharwals for the last two years. She planned it with her sister-in-law Pooja Rajput, who lives in Ghaziabad, police said.

Pooja Rajput's husband, Manish, was a constable in the paramilitary force. He sourced the uniform, the fake badge, and an ID card, police said. He also possessed a pistol whose licence had expired in 2019. Manish included his friend, Updesh Thapa, and his son in the raid.

Rekha Devi had reportedly tipped him off about the time of the raid and where the expensive items were kept. She was at the Sabharwal house when the fake ED raid was conducted.

Posing as fake officers, the men had come to the Sabharwal family's mansion in a blue Bolero car.

Sarita Vihar's Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Aishwarya Sharma said that after scanning over 300 CCTV cameras for digital footprints, the car was found parked in Sector 4 of Vaishali.

When the police team reached Ghaziabad, they found Pooja Rajput there. When the two were interrogated, they confessed the truth.

However, Manish, Updesh, and his son are currently on the run.

I’m In Love With Her': Ujjain Man Steals Woman's Undergarments; Tattoos Her Name On Chest, Arrested

Police in Ujjain arrested a 25-year-old man after CCTV footage showed him stealing a woman’s undergarments from a clothesline outside her house in the Chimanganj Mandi area.

Police in Ujjain have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly stealing a woman’s undergarments from outside her residence in the Chimanganj Mandi area. The incident came to light after CCTV footage captured the suspect removing clothes that had been left out to dry on a rope outside the house.

According to the Times Of India report, the matter surfaced when a woman noticed that some of her undergarments were missing. Suspecting theft, her family reviewed CCTV cameras installed nearby to determine what had happened. The footage reportedly showed a man identified as Amit Malviya, a resident of the same locality, taking the garments from the clothesline

Based on the video evidence, police tracked down and arrested Malviya. During questioning, he allegedly told investigators that he had a one-sided affection for the woman and had even tattooed her name on his chest.

The Times of India report added, the CCTV recording showed the accused selectively taking only the woman’s undergarments and placing them in his pocket, while leaving the rest of the clothes untouched before leaving the spot.

Following the discovery, the woman’s family approached the Chimanganj Mandi police station and submitted the footage as evidence. Police subsequently arrested Malviya and registered a case under relevant Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) provisions. Authorities said further investigation into the matter is ongoing, the report further said.
In a shocking incident reported last month, a 24-year-old MBA student was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend in Indore. The accused, identified as Piyush Dhamnodiya, later drew attention for his unusual behaviour when approached by reporters. According to a Times of India report, he appeared casual during questioning, smirking at journalists and largely avoiding direct responses.

Police said the victim was strangled to death by her classmate. Investigators also alleged that after the killing, the accused mistreated the woman’s body and carried out occult-related rituals while he was on the run. The crime came to light on February 13 after residents in the Dwarkapuri area complained about a foul smell coming from a locked house. Following the complaint, police entered the premises and discovered the woman’s body, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shrikrishna Lalchandani.

Reward On Indian Man, Wanted In US For Killing Wife, Hiked To $1 Million

Bhadreshkumar Patel has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and dangerous weapon with an intent to injure.

New York:
The FBI is now offering a reward of up to $1 million, significantly increasing it from the previous amount of $250,000, for information leading to the arrest of an Indian national wanted for allegedly killing his wife in 2015.

Bhadreshkumar Chetanbhai Patel, 35, was last known to be in the Newark, New Jersey, area. He is wanted for allegedly killing his wife, Palak Patel, by striking her multiple times with an object while they were both working at a doughnut shop in Hanover, Maryland on April 12, 2015.

Patel is on the FBI's list of "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" and the federal agency announced on Tuesday that it is now offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to his arrest. Initially, the FBI had offered a $100,000 reward for information about Patel, later increasing the amount to $250,000.

Patel has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and dangerous weapon with an intent to injure.

A federal arrest warrant was issued in the United States District Court, District of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland, on April 20, 2015, after Patel was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

According to a 2017 FBI press release, Patel and his wife both worked the night shift at the doughnut shop, owned by a relative of his.

Investigators believe Patel killed his wife, who was 21 at the time, in a back room of the shop just before midnight on April 12, 2015. Patel allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times and fled by a rear door.

After leaving the doughnut shop, Patel walked across the street to the apartment he shared with his wife, retrieved a few items and some cash, and then hailed a taxi. The cab driver took him to a hotel in New Jersey, near the Newark Liberty International Airport. He checked in about 3 am with no bags, just the clothes on his back. He checked out around 10 am and took a hotel shuttle to the Newark Penn station. That was the last anyone has seen of him, the FBI said.

The press release warns that Patel should be considered "armed and extremely dangerous".

According to the FBI, investigators theorise that Palak Patel wanted to return to India -- their visas had expired the month before -- and her husband was against the idea. "The best guess is that he did not want her to leave," said Special Agent Jonathan Shaffer, who was investigating the case from the FBI's Baltimore Division. "It is possible that he thought he would be disgraced by her leaving and going back to India." Although the motive remains unclear, Shaffer had noted that after the crime, Patel's "actions show a very cool and calculated mentality about escaping the scene and fleeing the area".

After the killing, a customer who entered the shop realised something was wrong when no one came to take his order. He alerted a police officer, who discovered Palak Patel's body. "It was horrific what had been done to this young woman," Shaffer said.

Realising that Patel was an international flight risk, local police requested FBI assistance and several days after the killing, a federal arrest warrant was issued charging Patel with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Investigators believe that Patel could be with distant relatives in the US or that he could have fled to Canada. "Or he could have travelled through Canada back to India," Shaffer said. "Those are among the plausible options we are exploring," according to a press release issued in 2017.

Uniform, 'Probe Agency' Raid: How Househelp Looted Lakhs From Delhi Architect

Three individuals in police uniforms forcibly entered the residence of 86-year-old RC Sabharwal, a retired architect, claiming to be ED officials.

New Delhi:
A househelp has been arrested for allegedly staging a fake Enforcement Directorate (ED) raid at her employer's residence in Delhi's New Friends Colony.

The police said that three individuals in police uniforms forcibly entered the residence of 86-year-old RC Sabharwal, a retired architect, claiming to be ED officials, on February 11. The accused threatened the family and seized mobile phones during search operations.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

After being confronted by the Sabharwal's grandson, they fled in a car with about Rs 3-4 lakh in cash, seven luxury watches and jewellery.

How Cops Cracked The Case

The police filed a case this Tuesday and launched a massive investigation. They analysed over 350 CCTV cameras, including private cameras from the residential area where the robbery took place, surveillance cameras, and high-speed traffic cameras, and zeroed in on a Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

The investigators then mapped their movements from the crime scene and found out that the car travelled via Sarai Kale Khan and entered Uttar Pradesh from the Ghazipur border.

The car was then seen parked near a residence in Ghaziabad's Vaishali.

Based on the car's registration number, the police used technical surveillance (mobile tower dump data and IMEI tracking) to cross-reference which mobile numbers were active at both the New Friends Colony crime scene and the Vaishali parking location at the relevant times.

The data then pointed to the residence of a woman named Pooja Rajput, who turned out to be the sister-in-law of the maid, Rekha Devi.

Local intelligence then confirmed that Rekha Devi was a frequent visitor to that exact Ghaziabad address, confirming the "insider" conspiracy, the police said.

When the team raided Pooja's house on Wednesday, they recovered the uniforms and tools used in the raid. They also found the stolen luxury watches and jewellery.

While Rekha, 40, and 45-year-old Pooja have been arrested, the police are on the hunt for the other accused: Prakash, a serving ITBP constable; Updesh Singh Thapa, a retired army personnel, and Manish

MP Prisoner Studied Guards and Mapped Blind Spots Before Daring Escape - Now Back Behind Bars

A prisoner named Jeevan, who escaped from Shajapur district jail in Madhya Pradesh, was apprehended days later in Chhattisgarh.

Bhopal: The prisoner, who had escaped after a jailbreak from Shajapur district jail in Madhya Pradesh, was arrested days later from neighbouring Chhattisgarh. Police said the escapee was hiding at a relative's home when he was traced and apprehended. Jeevan alias Jayram, a resident of Maksi Nai Aabadi, broke out of the jail around noon on March 15 after spending ten days studying guard movements and mapping the facility's blind spots. He is now back behind bars.

Ten Days in the Making

The escape was anything but impulsive. According to Shajapur Jail Superintendent Dushyant Pagare, Jeevan and a fellow inmate spent ten days tracking guard routines before making their move. They zeroed in on a 20-foot wall beside the kitchen — an area where guards routinely escorted prisoners for work — as their exit point

On the day of the breakout, the two inmates concealed themselves inside the kitchen. Using a wire, a stick, and a hook fixed at 15 feet on the wall, they rigged a makeshift climbing apparatus. Jeevan climbed onto his partner's shoulders and hauled himself over the wall. His accomplice, unable to follow without support from below, raised the alarm — but Jeevan was already gone.

Injured but Unstoppable

The jump injured his leg, but Jeevan kept moving. He hitched rides across vehicles, boarded a train to Amarkantak, and eventually reached Durg in Chhattisgarh.

The Net Closes

Jail authorities immediately formed a special team. Investigations gradually pointed to Chhattisgarh, where Central Jail Bhairugarh circle superintendent Manoj Sahu confirmed Jeevan was sheltering at his brother-in-law's residence. A Shajapur police team travelled to Chhattisgarh and arrested him in what officials described as a "filmy-style raid."
Jeevan was brought back to Shajapur under tight security. The second inmate remains in custody.

A retired teacher in Kanpur fell victim to cyber fraud, losing Rs 1.57 crore after engaging with scammers posing as Mark Zuckerberg and an associate of Elon Musk.

  • Lucknow: A retired teacher from Kanpur district was duped of Rs 1.57 crore by cyber fraudsters after she accepted a friend request from miscreants posing as Mark Zuckerberg and a representative of Elon Musk.

According to the FIR, the fraudsters contacted the victim on Facebook, introducing themselves as Zuckerberg and one “Josh Turner,” who claimed to be a singer and a representative of Musk. The accused, posing as Zuckerberg, told the victim that he planned to travel to India and start a chain of schools in Kanpur. The other accused claimed that Musk intended to establish a school in Kanpur and would employ the victim.

The victim fell into the trap and transferred money under the pretext of investment, a job offer, and processing fees. When she began to suspect foul play, she stopped interacting with them and was contacted by another individual claiming to be from “Miracle Givers,” who promised to help recover her money. He told her that the funds had been sent through a courier company and demanded additional payments for shipping charges, customs clearance, vehicle repair costs, package release, and operational compliance fees. The victim again fell prey and transferred a substantial amount before eventually ceasing communication with the fraudster.

Subsequently, she reported the matter online to an alleged “Cyber Reporting Assistance Online Scam Reporting Center,” where she came in contact with a person identifying himself as lawyer Ashok Suresh. He claimed that her money had been invested in a company named “Capitol Investment” and that a trading account had been created in her name. Bengaluru Delivery Agent Marries Minor, Impregnates Her Before Going into Hiding

Authorities in Bengaluru are searching for Nataraj, a 20-year-old food-delivery agent, who allegedly married a 17-year-old girl now five months pregnant.

Bengaluru: Police have launched a manhunt for Nataraj, a 20-year-old food-delivery agent, after he allegedly married a 17-year-old girl. The girl is now five months pregnant, and the groom has gone into hiding. The Kadugodi police registered the case following a formal complaint from Tilakesh Kumar K, a legal officer with the District Child Protection Unit. Nataraj, a resident of the Slum Board in Sadaramangala, now faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, said a media report.

Families Ignored the Law

Nataraj, originally from Tamil Nadu, had been close to the girl’s family for years. The girl, a school dropout, was in a relationship with him. When their families discovered the romance, they chose to arrange a wedding rather than wait for the girl to reach the legal age of 18. Investigators noted that the families completely ignored the legal consequences of their decision. Consequently, police also booked the girl’s mother and Nataraj’s parents for participating in the crime, reported by The Times of India.

A Spurned Suitor’s Revenge

In a dramatic twist, the illegal marriage came to light because of a professional and romantic rival. Another food-delivery agent, who also wanted to marry the girl, became "disappointed" and angry after she wed Nataraj. Seeking revenge, he approached the child protection unit and filed a complaint.

Officials cross-checked the girl’s records and confirmed she was only 17 years and six months old.

beng

Nataraj is currently absconding. He switched off his mobile phone shortly after the police filed the case to avoid being tracked. Authorities continue to search for him while monitoring the health and safety of the minor girl.
