Toxin in Milk: How Contaminated Supply From One Dairy Killed 16 in Andhra Pradesh

The suspected milk adulteration incident in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district has resulted in 16 fatalities due to multi-organ failure from ethylene glycol exposure. Following reports of severe health issues among residents since mid-February, health authorities initiated an investigation after a spike in acute kidney failure cases.

The death toll in the suspected milk adulteration case in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district climbed to 16 on Sunday, with laboratory findings confirming that victims died of multi-organ failure triggered by acute renal failure after consuming milk laced with ethylene glycol, a toxic chemical commonly used in antifreeze.
Three persons are currently undergoing treatment at hospitals in Rajamahendravaram, while one patient has been discharged after recovery, officials said.

How It Unfolded

The incident traces back to mid-February, when residents of Chowdeswaranagar and Swaroopanagar areas in Lalacheruvu began reporting severe health complications, including vomiting, abdominal pain, inability to urinate, and acute kidney dysfunction, after consuming locally supplied milk.

The case formally came to light on February 22, when a cluster of patients with acute kidney failure symptoms was reported, prompting health authorities to launch an epidemiological investigation. The same day, police registered a case under Section 194 of the BNSS, which deals with unnatural deaths, following a complaint by Tadi Seetharamaiah, son of one of the deceased.

Between February 16 and March 21, a total of 20 persons were admitted to various hospitals. Of these, 16 have since died, three remain under treatment, and one recovered.

Source Traced, Supply Stopped

Investigators identified a dairy unit in Narasapuram village under Korukonda mandal in East Godavari as the suspected source. Milk from the unit had been supplied to over 100 families in the area. Supply from the unit was immediately stopped after it was flagged.
The milk vendor was taken into custody by police, while forensic teams examined the premises and collected evidence.

What the Labs Found

Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of ethylene glycol in the contaminated milk. "Preliminary findings indicate that the victims suffered acute renal failure with elevated blood urea and serum creatinine levels, suggesting toxic exposure likely linked to contaminated milk consumption," the release said.
The Food Safety Department collected samples of milk, curd, ghee, paneer, water and other materials from the dairy unit, which were sent to multiple laboratories for both microbial and chemical analysis. The Animal Husbandry Department separately collected samples of cattle feed and water to determine whether contamination occurred at the source level.

Scale of Response

Authorities mounted a large-scale public health response in the affected localities. Among the measures deployed:
Rapid Response Teams comprising medical specialists, epidemiologists and surveillance officers were constituted to conduct field visits and identify symptomatic cases early. House-to-house surveys were carried out covering over 300 individuals across affected families, with blood samples collected and tested, the majority of which returned normal results. Emergency medical camps were set up in the area, and senior health officials and specialist doctors from Hyderabad were deputed to monitor treatment protocols.
Patients admitted to hospitals included elderly persons and children, several of whom required dialysis and ventilator support, officials said. Authorities said the situation is currently under control. Further action will be taken based on detailed laboratory findings and the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

How Nashik Godman Was Exposed: The Former Staffer And Pregnant Survivor Who Spoke Up

A pregnant survivor's testimony, followed by a former staffer’s sting operation, blew the lid off the abuse and exploitation taking place inside Nashik godman Ashokkumar Kharat's office.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Hidden Camera Breakthrough: Staffer submits pen drive with 100+ clips allegedly showing women being drugged and exploited inside Ashokkumar Kharat's cabin
  • ‘Ritual’ Abuse Allegations: Survivors claim he invoked “divine powers”, forced substance consumption, and issued threats to ensure compliance
  • Fraud and exploitation: ‘Energised stones’ racket, money routing, and digital blackmail trail now under SIT probe
A hidden camera, a pen drive, and over 100 video clips - it was a former staffer who blew the lid off the Nashik godman Ashokkumar Kharat's sexual exploitation scandal. The staffer approached Nashik Police on Sunday (March 22), alleging that he secretly recorded activities inside the godman’s private cabin after a woman he knew accused Kharat of sexually assaulting her while she was pregnant. The footage, handed over to investigators, is now central to the probe.
Police said the material - stored on a pen drive - allegedly shows multiple women being made to consume substances, appearing disoriented, and then subjected to inappropriate acts. Officials confirmed that more than 100 clips have now been recovered, far exceeding the initial estimates.

The former staffer, who joined Kharat in 2019, said the accused cultivated an image of having “divine powers” and drew visitors, including influential individuals. According to his complaint, couples were often called in together, after which the male partner would be asked to leave, leaving the woman alone inside under the guise of rituals. Women also visited individually.

He recounted a 2023 incident involving a pregnant acquaintance who had visited Kharat for a ritual meant to ensure safe childbirth. After being asked to step out, the staffer said the woman later told him that Kharat switched off the lights, instructed her to close her eyes, and touched her inappropriately under the pretext of examining the unborn child. She resisted and left.

Initially skeptical due to Kharat’s influence, the staffer said he believed her after she insisted and swore on their unborn child. That episode led him to closely monitor activities inside the office.

Tamarind Seeds As Gemstones

The complaint alleges that the exploitation went far beyond abuse. Under the cover of rituals, tamarind seeds were polished and passed off as “energised” stones, sold for amounts ranging from thousands to lakhs of rupees

He then installed a hidden camera inside the cabin, recorded footage over time, and later handed it to the police. The staffer alleged that after he refused to cooperate in such activities, he was removed from his job in late 2024 and denied two months’ salary. He further claimed he was threatened with death if the footage was not surrendered.
Within hours of the staffer's complaint, another woman filed an FIR, accusing Kharat of repeatedly raping her between 2020 and 2026 under the pretext of religious rituals. She alleged he claimed to possess “divine powers”, made her consume substances during these rituals, and issued threats to her and her children to ensure compliance. She further alleged that he impregnated her and later administered pills that caused a miscarriage. She told police she came forward after reading about similar allegations. With these, the total number of FIRs in the case has risen to three.

Old FIR Filed By Nashik Godman Surfaces

The case had begun surfacing earlier through a different route. According to a TOI report, on December 29, 2025, Kharat himself filed a complaint at Vavi police station, alleging he was being blackmailed with objectionable photos and videos and asked to pay Rs 5 crore. In February 2026, one of his associates was booked in Shirdi for allegedly creating morphed obscene images and issuing threats.
Amid these developments, the state government set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) on March 13, 2026. Days later, on March 17, another woman approached Sarkarwada police station alleging repeated sexual assault between 2022 and 2025. An FIR was registered and Kharat was arrested the same day. The case was transferred to the SIT on March 18 due to links between multiple complaints.

Maharashtra Women's Panel Head Rupali Chakankar Quits After Row Over Black Magic, Ties With 'Rapist' Astrologer

Rupali Chakankar resigned as Maharashtra Women’s Commission chief after controversy over her alleged links with rape-accused godman Ashok Kharat triggered political backlash.

After row over her association withrape-accused 'godman' Ashok Kharat, Maharashtra State Commission for Women chairperson Rupali Chakankar resigned from her post on Friday (March 20). Chakankar, who is also the NCP women's wing chief, submitted the resignation letter to deputy Chief Minister and party president Sunetra Pawar. She had been appointed to the post on October 15, 2024.

According to sources as quoted by PTI, she met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis earlier in the evening, and he asked her to resign. This comes after Chakankar faced flak from opposition parties with opposition leaders even trying to corner the BJP-led government by pointing to Chankankar's links with the accused. In the letter addressed to Fadnavis, Chakankar stated that she was stepping down from the post with immediate effect.

Black Magic, Intimidation of Victims

Shiv Sena UBT spokesperson Sushma Andhare, social activist Anjali Damania and NCP’s Rupali Thombre have accused Chakankar of indulging in black magic rituals and protecting an individual who was involved in committing atrocities against women. Andhare claimed that under the influence of Kharat, who claims to be an astrologer, Chakankar 'cut' her 'anamika' or ring finger as part of some occult ritual. Andhare also showed photos where Chakankar is purportedly seen with a bandage on her ring finger.

Rajya Sabha member Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati demanded that Chakankar step down, while Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut wanted to know who was protecting her.
The demand for Chakankar’s resignation intensified after it emerged that she had performed rituals along with Kharat, who heads Shree Ishaneshwar Mahadev Temple Trust of which she is a member. However, Chakankar, in a post on X two days ago, had denied having any knowledge about Kharat's personal life.

Fear, Threats and Fake Rituals

Kharat, who claims to be a retired Merchant Navy officer and is known as "captain", was involved in sexual exploitation of women under the guise of spiritual practices and also in financial frauds and land grabbing, she alleged.

Kharat, who had several politcal leaders visit him over the years, was arrested in Nashik on Wednesday for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting a woman for three years. He was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by a 35-year-old woman. According to the victim's complaint, Kharat called her to his office claiming that his predictions pointed to “threats” to her husband’s life, gave her sedative-laced drinks, and raped her on multiple occasions between November 2022 and December 2025.

A Fisherman Stripped Mumbai's ONGC Platforms for Over a Decade, One Sneaky Boat Ride at a Time

A fisherman from Raigad, Chandrakant Patil, allegedly established a lucrative criminal operation by stealing equipment from ONGC offshore oil platforms.

A fisherman from Raigad district has allegedly built a multi-crore criminal empire by repeatedly stealing valuable equipment from Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) offshore oil platforms in the sea off Mumbai's coast. Chandrakant Patil started out as an ordinary fisherman. But in 2009, he allegedly took part in his first theft on an ONGC offshore platform, said a media report. That single incident appears to have changed the course of his life. He quickly realised that industrial batteries and copper cables, the kind used on oil platforms, fetch very good money when sold as scrap. Investigators estimate that theft alone caused losses of over Rs 2 crore.

After that, Patil allegedly gave up fishing entirely and turned to crime full time, reported Mumbai Mirror.

The Method

Patil's alleged approach was simple but effective. He and his associates used small fishing boats, the kind that raise no suspicion at sea, to reach the offshore platforms. They timed their visits carefully, striking during hours when surveillance was weak. Once on board, they stripped the platforms of battery banks, solar panels, and copper wiring. They then ferried the stolen goods back to the mainland and quietly sold everything through the scrap market. Over the years, police believe he may have made crores of rupees this way.

The Latest Arrests

Mumbai Port Trust's Yellow Gate police recently made a breakthrough, arresting three of Patil's alleged associates, Dattatray Patil (36), Santosh Patil (40), and Vitthal Mhatre (32), all from Raigad, in connection with four separate theft cases filed in March this year. Police recovered 47 stolen battery banks worth roughly Rs 90 lakh and also seized a fishing boat worth Rs 15 lakh that was allegedly used to access the platforms.

The Chase

A special Mumbai Police team then tracked Chandrakant Patil himself to the jurisdiction of Dadar Coastal Police Station in Raigad. When officers moved in to arrest him, Patil jumped out of a moving autorickshaw to escape. Police gave chase on foot. He then tried to flee again by jumping into the water, but officers caught him there too.

The Scale of the Problem

Police say Patil has 13 theft cases registered against him across multiple police stations. Seven of those cases are at Yellow Gate police station alone, covering thefts on four separate ONGC platforms causing losses of around Rs 1 crore. The remaining cases are spread across stations at Mandwa, Vadkhal, Alibaug, Navi Panvel, and Uran.
Investigators now suspect that Patil sits at the centre of a wider organised network. They are looking into the role of scrap dealers who allegedly bought the stolen goods, knowingly or otherwise, and helped turn stolen equipment into cash.

Political Feud or Personal Affair? BJP Worker Found Dead With Throat Slit in West Bengal—What Led to His Murder?

BJP worker, Kishore Das, was found murdered in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas, triggering panic and political backlash. His body was discovered near his home, prompting police investigations. Initially, BJP leaders accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters of involvement, citing threats received since the election announcement. However, authorities suspect an extramarital affair may be the motive.

A 38-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was found murdered with his throat slit near his residence in South 24 Parganas' Raidighi, West Bengal, on Monday night. The incident happened around 70 kms away from Kolkata, and has caused panic and anxiety among locals, according to a TOI report. The police are suspecting an extra-marital affair angle, which led to the murder of BJP worker Kishore Das.

According to the police, locals found the body of the man near a pond adjacent to the victim's house. As soon as the officials were alerted, they moved his body to Raidighi Rural Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Das's death triggered political reactions as he served as the vice-president of booth number 216 of the BJP.

What Could Have Led To His

According to The Statesman report, the BJP leaders alleged that Das was receiving threats since the announcement of the Assembly Elections and blamed "Trinamul-backed miscreants" for the killing.
The police, however, found something else suspicious. They suspect an extramarital affair, which led to his killing. Acting on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, police detained three persons for questioning and later arrested Maji’s wife, Anima Das, along with her alleged partner, Gobinda Haldar. Both are currently being interrogated, officials said.

What BJP Workers Are Saying?

BJP Candidate for the Raidighi Palash Rana alleged that the police and the TMC are creating drama by claiming that this was a case of an illicit relationship.

"If they attempt to cover up this murder, their efforts will fail. The BJP will continue its agitation until justice is served for this killing," he added, according to a Statesman report.

What TMC Said?

The Trinamool Congress has dismissed the allegations, stating that the BJP is essentially trying to capitalize on troubled waters. Bapi Haldar, the Trinamool MP from Mathurapur, said, "At its core, this is a matter of a love triangle. The BJP is now attempting to pin the blame on the Trinamool. There could be no conspiracy more despicable than this," IANS reported.

NIA Investigates the Incident

The Election Commission transferred the probe to NIA on the Supreme Court, taking suo moto cognizance in the matter, ordered after the top court slammed West Bengal’s administration for Wednesday’s violence. The SC directed CBI or NIA to investigate the incident.

On Friday, the NIA officers visited the Mothabari police station, Kaliachak-II block office, and inspected the roads where the judges’ cars were attacked.
The team is also collecting CCTV footage from the Mothabari police station and the BDO office. However, the NIA officials who remained at the block office till evening did not comment to the media.

According to reports, the NIA team is examining the police response to the incident, focusing on challenges faced during the rescue operation. Officials have questioned personnel who were on duty, including the area’s circle inspector, to piece together the sequence of events. However, as the NIA team reached the spot, several locals reportedly fled the area and shut their shops to avoid questioning.

Hidden Phones in Toilets, TV Set in Jail: Bengaluru Prison Inmates Caught Using Mobiles in Viral Video

In Bengaluru, three jail officials were suspended following the release of videos showing under-trial prisoners at Parappana Agrahara Central Prison discussing an Indian Premier League match and other matters.

Bengaluru: Three jail officials have been suspended after videos were recorded and shared by under-trial prisoners from inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, officials said on Sunday.
The videos, which were released by a news portal, allegedly showed prisoners making remarks against Alok Kumar. They also claimed they had access to mobile phones and spoke about Indian Premier League match in Bengaluru.

However, the prison department denied the claim that officials had provided mobile phones to inmates.
Following the incident, three jail warders — Niranjan Kamath, Hanumantappa Hadpad, and Shivanand Karlabatti — were suspended for negligence of duty, officials said.

"Three warders, Niranjan Kamath, Hanumantappa Hadpad and Shivanand Karlabatti are being placed under suspension for dereliction of duty," Alok Kumar told PTI.

Action has been initiated against the Jailer who was allegedly on supervisory duty at the time of the video recording.
Detailing the sequence of events, he said three video clippings were released from Parappana Agrahara Central Prison in 'Bangalore Suddi' news portal around 9 am on Saturday.

"One of our media friends shared those clippings with me. Chief Superintendent Anshu Kumar, and his team found out the mischief mongers and seized the mobile phones which were hidden inside the pipe in the toilet chamber."

According to Alok Kumar, the main accused in the case are Darshan and Abhi, linked to the Hennur Bande murder case, while the voice in the clips was identified as that of Zypsin Daniel.
"To derail the process of reform, these prisoners deliberately shared the clippings with the media to bring a bad name and to demoralise the top hierarchy of the Prison and Correctional Services department," he said.

A complaint has been filed at the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison Police Station against the accused.
The DGP further said action has been initiated against staff on duty during the night of March 27 and the morning of March 28.
He also flagged the issue of mobile connectivity inside the prison.
"Presence of Airtel signal has been found in some parts of the prison. We are issuing a warning to them to take adequate measures to rectify the issue," he said.
"The process of reforms in the Prison and Correctional Services department will go on despite a few vested interests trying to subvert the process. Our team of officers and men have been working very hard to implement the proposed changes," Alok Kumar added.

The Casebook: ‘Stoneman’ — Unsolved Mystery of Killer Who Crushed Homeless With 30 kg Stones in Kolkata, Mumbai

In the 1980s, a mysterious killer known as “Stoneman” terrorised Kolkata and Mumbai, targeting homeless people sleeping on pavements. Victims were killed with heavy stones in the dead of night. Despite multiple investigations, arrests, and theories, the killer was never identified, making it one of India’s most chilling unsolved mysteries.

The City Sleeps, Fear Awakens

In the late 1980s, Kolkata’s nights appeared calm, but a silent fear was taking shape. Pavement dwellers—labourers, migrants, and the homeless—slept under open skies, unaware of danger. As bodies began appearing with fatal head injuries, police initially saw isolated cases. But a pattern soon emerged, revealing a chilling truth: someone was targeting the city’s most vulnerable, striking silently in the dark.

The Killer’s Method

The killer’s method was disturbingly simple yet brutal. Victims were attacked in their sleep using large stones, often weighing over 20–30 kilograms. A single, forceful blow to the head ensured instant death. There were no signs of struggle, theft, or motive. The consistency in method across cases pointed to a calculated approach, making the crimes even more unsettling for investigators.

The Victims — Invisible Lives

The victims were almost always pavement dwellers—people living on the margins of society. Many had no identification, making investigations slower and less urgent initially. They were daily wage workers, migrants, and the destitute. Their invisibility in life extended into death, allowing the killer to operate without immediate detection, exploiting society’s neglect of its most vulnerable citizens.

Midnight Killings

Most murders occurred between midnight and early morning hours, when streets were deserted and victims in deep sleep. The timing suggested careful planning and familiarity with city patterns. With minimal witnesses and reduced patrols, the killer operated undetected. The stillness of night became his greatest ally, turning ordinary streets into silent crime scenes.

Panic Grips the City

As the killings increased, fear spread rapidly. Police intensified night patrols, questioning suspects and monitoring vulnerable areas. Pavement dwellers began staying awake in groups, trying to protect themselves. Despite these efforts, the randomness of attacks made prevention difficult. The city lived in fear of an unseen killer who struck without warning.

The Mumbai Connection

Similar killings had been reported earlier in Mumbai, following the same pattern—homeless victims, nighttime attacks, and fatal head injuries using stones. This raised the possibility of a single killer moving between cities or copycat crimes inspired by earlier incidents. The connection deepened the mystery, expanding fear beyond one city.

The Killer Who Was Never Found

Despite multiple suspects being detained, no one was conclusively linked to the murders. Lack of evidence, witnesses, or forensic leads stalled the investigation. Then, as suddenly as they began, the killings stopped. The killer disappeared without a trace, leaving behind unanswered questions and a trail of fear that still lingers.

A Mystery That Still Haunts

Decades later, the Stoneman case remains unsolved. Theories range from a lone serial killer to multiple perpetrators or copycats. Occasional similar crimes revive memories of the case. With no closure or confirmed identity, the mystery continues to haunt, raising one chilling question—was the killer ever truly gone?

Pune Cabbie Bites Techie's Finger: A cab driver in Pune allegedly bit off part of an IT professional's finger during a fare dispute on March 16.

Pune Cabbie Bites Techie's Finger: A cab driver allegedly bit off part of a finger belonging to an IT professional during a heated argument over fare payment in Pune on Monday afternoon (March 16). The victim, a 42-year-old man who works at an IT firm in Hinjewadi IT Park Phase I, booked a Rapido cab to travel home to Nana Peth after his shift. Before the journey even began, the driver insisted on charging fare according to the vehicle's meter. He refused to accept the payment as per the app used for booking the ride, which escalated the argument between them. Around 3.40 in the afternoon, the driver bit two fingers on the man's left hand, partially severing one of them. The victim was taken to a hospital in Pune for treatment.

The following day, the man went to the police and filed a complaint. Officers at Hinjewadi police station arrested the driver and produced him before a court. Assistant Inspector Sandeep Vanganekar, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the dispute started before the ride began, solely over the question of how the fare would be calculated, reported The Times of India.

A Wider Problem
This incident highlights a growing frustration among cab users in Pune. Many drivers routinely refuse to accept app-based fares and push passengers to pay by meter instead.
Tanvi Shaikh, a resident of Kondhwa, shared her own experience. She booked an Uber at around 2 in the morning from the MSRTC stand in Wakdewadi to Kondhwa. She claimed that the driver asked her to pay by meter before starting the trip, ignoring the fare shown on the app. She cancelled and tried Ola, but faced the same problem. In the end, she took an autorickshaw, which at least used the meter as it should.

Gujarat Godman, Six Disciples, Rs 2.38 Crore Fake Currency Racket: Inside Their Modus Operandi, Bizarre Reason

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch has dismantled a counterfeit currency operation, arresting seven individuals, including a self-proclaimed Godman, Pradeep Jotangiya.

The Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has busted a counterfeit currency racket and arrested 7 people, including a Surat-based self-styled Godman Pradeep Jotangiya aka Pradip Guruji, and seized fake currency notes of Rs 500 denominations with a face value of Rs 2.38 crore. The counterfeit money — Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) — were intercepted from a vehicle in Ahmedabad’s Amraiwadi area and also from Surat.

Initial interrogation of the accused revealed that they had brought the FICN from Surat-based Satyam Yog Foundation (Dham) in the Kmarej region, the Ahmedabad DCB informed.

The DCB then passed on this information with the Surat crime branch and asked them to keep a close watch on the Ashram and also on the residence of one of the close aides of the accused Godman.
On March 19, Ahmedabad DCB raided the Surat Ashram and Mukesh Thummar’s residence and also arrested Bharatbhai Kakadiya aka Bharat Patel, according to The Indian Express. They also seized another Rs 28 lakh worth of fake currency notes in Rs 500 denominations along with printing machines, blank papers, colors, inks, among other things.

The seven accused arrested in the case have been identified as Pradeep Jotangiya aka Pradeep Guruji, Mukesh Thummar, Rameshbhai, Bharat Kakadiya, Ashok Mavani, Ramesh Balar, Divyesh Rana, and a woman.

According to the DCB, the self-styled Godman is being seen as the main accused in this case, while others are his followers. He runs the Surat-based Shree Satyam Yog Foundation.
All the seven accused were remanded to 10-day police custody on Friday by a city court in Ahmedabad.
PTI reported that were held after 42,000 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination were seized from a car, while another set of notes were recovered from a house in Surat, quoting Gujarat Police official. Currency bundles were recovered from a black bag and concealed packaging inside a white SUV on Wednesday.

What Are The Charges Against Seven Accused

The accused have been charged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 178 (counterfeiting currency-notes), 180 (possession of forged currency), 181 (having instruments to forge currency) and 61(2) dealing with criminal conspiracy, Ahmedabad Crime Branch Inspector SJ Jadeja said.

Why Pradip Jotangiya Was Involved in Fake Currency Notes Racket

Police said accused Pradeep Jotangiya or Pradip Guruji, established Shri Satyam Yog Foundation in Kamrej in 2008, and the fake currency notes plan was devised after it ran out of funds.
The accused, who were associated with the Yoga foundation, began printing counterfeit currency four months ago, an official said, adding that Jotangiya had also attempted suicide in 2018 over a financial dispute in Kamrej.

How Jotangiya Was Printing Fake Currency Notes

According to police, the racket was led by Mukesh Thummar, who arranged printers, paper cutting machines, etc., and had also procured security thread paper resembling RBI markings from Chinese sources through online platforms like Alibaba using digital payment gateways such as cryptocurrency.

The accused had formulated a printing set up at a residential building in Surat, including professional printers and cutting machines.

Incidentally, the SUV from which fake notes were seized had a 'VVIP' sticker as well as a plate with 'Shri Satyam Yog Foundation Recognized by Ayush Mantralay, Govt. of India' written on it.

How Accused Were Putting Fake Notes into Circulation

According to The Indian Express, the accused at first printed a small batch of counterfeit notes and circulated them through agents. After observing the response, they later started printing them in large numbers and circulated them in local markets.

Police said they (the accused) circulated counterfeit currency with a face value of Rs 20 lakh and were paying 20-25 per cent commission to agents.

The seized fake currency notes were sent to the Reserve Bank of India and FSL for testing, where it was found that they were of high quality. The paper was imported to India while the notes were being printed at Mukesh Thumper’s house in Sarthana.

While a further investigation into the case is underway, the police are also tracing the source of the high-quality paper that the accused were using to print the counterfeit notes.

How Police Nabbed Pradeep Jotangiya

The Ahmedabad DCB, acting on a tip-off that a huge consignment of fake currency was entering the city closely followed the accused’s movements and kept an eagle eye at the Amraiwadi center. When the cops witnessed some suspicious movement, they held the suspects.

Where Was The Fake Currency Consignment Being Transported

According to officials, the counterfeit currency notes were being transported to Satyam Yog Foundation. The vehicles that had been seized bore government of India and Ministry of AYUSH markings, which they accused may have been used to disguise law enforcement agencies.

What Did the Accused Reveal?

During the questioning, one of the accused informed police that fake currency notes were being printed in Varachha, Surat. Acting on this information, the cops raided the location and witnessed a printing set up including machines, raw material, and documents.

So far during the investigation, the crime branch has seized several key documents and technical equipment that were being used for printing notes.

The police have also questioned accused Pradeep’s brother Amit Jotangia, who currently oversees yoga classes, as they were trying to trace financial links and his involvement in the fake currency case.

What Was the Modus Operandi Behind Fake Currency Scandal?

The New Indian Express quoted the Crime Branch that the accused, as per a scheme, were offering genuine Rs 500 notes to exchange them for fake currency worth Rs 1500. They were planning a new deal where they would trade Rs 66 in original currency for fake notes worth Rs 2 crore.

Investigation into the case is still underway to nab other accused and unearth the full distribution network of fake currency.
According to TOI, the accused told police that the fake currency racket was to raise funds for the social welfare activities of the Satyam Yog Foundation.

During the questioning, accused Jotangiya told cops that he was short of money to support and provide treatment and accommodation to those who were coming to the yog centre, therefore they decided to arrange the funds illegally.
However, police refused to buy the argument that the entire motive behind the fake currency racket was social welfare as they were already looking out for agents to push the money into circulation.

Pradeep Jotangiya’s Political Links

Pradeep Jotangiya had set up the Satyam Yog Foundation in 2008 at Dhora Pardi Village in Kamrej. According to TOI sources, he maintained close ties with politicians, as many of them had been visiting his centre.

Bengaluru Delivery Agent Marries Minor, Impregnates Her Before Going into Hiding

Authorities in Bengaluru are searching for Nataraj, a 20-year-old food-delivery agent, who allegedly married a 17-year-old girl now five months pregnant.

Bengaluru: Police have launched a manhunt for Nataraj, a 20-year-old food-delivery agent, after he allegedly married a 17-year-old girl. The girl is now five months pregnant, and the groom has gone into hiding. The Kadugodi police registered the case following a formal complaint from Tilakesh Kumar K, a legal officer with the District Child Protection Unit. Nataraj, a resident of the Slum Board in Sadaramangala, now faces serious charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, said a media report.

Families Ignored the Law

Nataraj, originally from Tamil Nadu, had been close to the girl’s family for years. The girl, a school dropout, was in a relationship with him. When their families discovered the romance, they chose to arrange a wedding rather than wait for the girl to reach the legal age of 18. Investigators noted that the families completely ignored the legal consequences of their decision. Consequently, police also booked the girl’s mother and Nataraj’s parents for participating in the crime, reported by The Times of India.

A Spurned Suitor’s Revenge

In a dramatic twist, the illegal marriage came to light because of a professional and romantic rival. Another food-delivery agent, who also wanted to marry the girl, became "disappointed" and angry after she wed Nataraj. Seeking revenge, he approached the child protection unit and filed a complaint.

Officials cross-checked the girl’s records and confirmed she was only 17 years and six months old.

beng

Nataraj is currently absconding. He switched off his mobile phone shortly after the police filed the case to avoid being tracked. Authorities continue to search for him while monitoring the health and safety of the minor girl.

Crime Tracker | For Son’s ‘Cure’, Mother Sacrifices Daughter: Police Reveals Chilling Horror

A 13-year-old girl in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag was allegedly killed in a ritual sacrifice by her mother and two others under occult influence, police said.

An investigation into the death of ateenage girl in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag has now become a chilling story of 'faith and crime' that has stunned the region and beyond, with police alleging that the victim was killed as part of a 'ritual sacrifice' carried out by those closest to her. What was initially reported as a case of abduction and suspected sexual assault has now taken a darker turn, as investigators claim the crime was planned under the influence of occult beliefs, exposing disturbing details about the motive and execution of the killing.
The incident took place on the night of March 24, when the village was immersed in Mangla Julus celebrations during Ram Navami.

Mother, Occultist Among Three Arrested

According to police, the girl went missing during the procession, and her body was discovered the next morning, March 25, near a bamboo grove behind a middle school.
Initially, the girl’s mother, Reshmi Devi, filed an FIR alleging rape and murder. However, the investigation took a dramatic turn after the formation of a Special Investigation Team led by IPS officer Nagar Goje Shubham Bhausahab. Hazaribag SP said the probe, supported by technical evidence and sustained questioning, revealed that the mother herself was involved in the killing.

Police have arrested the 35-year-old mother of the girl, Reshmi Devi, along with a 55-year-old occult practitioner, Shanti Devi, also known as Bhagatini, and a 40-year-old man, Bhim Ram. Hazaribag Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan and DIG Anjani Jha confirmed the arrests during a late-night press conference. According to police, the mother, identified as Reshmi Devi, frequently visited a ‘tantrik’ seeking treatment for her youngest son, who suffers from mental and physical health issues. "The occult practitioner told the mother that they needed to sacrifice a virgin girl to cure the son of all ailments," SP Anjani Anjan said.

Ritual Killing During Festival Night

Police said the crime took place on March 24, the night of Ashtami, when the village was engaged in Mangla Julus, a Ram Navami procession. Police said the girl was first made to sit in a temple and ritual preparations were carried out. She was given sindoor and kajal and offered prasad. Later, she was taken to a secluded bamboo grove where the ritual escalated into violence. Investigators said the child was forced to lie on the ground, after which Bhim Ram allegedly strangled her while the mother held her legs.

The police claimed that further acts of brutality followed as part of the ritual. The accused used a bamboo stick during the ceremony and inflicted injuries to collect blood, which was then used for the ritual. After the killing, the body was buried in the garden area to conceal the crime.
Anjan said the trio attempted to mislead the probe by claiming rape, which was not confirmed in the postmortem and forensic findings.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with protests led by the Opposition BJP and other groups. A bandh was observed in Hazaribag, and a statewide shutdown call was also given. Meanwhile, the Jharkhand High Court has taken suo motu cognisance of the case, seeking accountability from the state administration as the investigation continues.

Crime Tracker | Indira Gandhi Assassination Link Surfaces In New Zealand's Biggest Meth Bust: Who Is Baltej Singh?

The arrest of Baltej Singh, a drug lord in New Zealand's Auckland, has brought back focus on the assassination of Indira Gandhi, owing to his familial links to one of the killers.

In New Zealand, a sprawling international drug investigation has taken an unexpected historical turn. Baltej Singh - a businessman based in Auckland - has been named as the key figure behind the country's largest methamphetamine bust, and he also shares links with one of India's most defining political assassinations - that of Indira Gandhi in 1984. Singh was sentenced to 22 years in jail on Monday, March 30, after he was convicted for his role in the drug network. Soon the spotlight fell on his family links to Satwant Singh, one of the men involved in the assassination of the former prime minister Indira Gandhi.

Assassination of Indira Gandhi

On October 31, 1984, Gandhi was shot dead by two of her bodyguards - Satwant Singh and Beant Singh - at her residence in New Delhi. The assassination came months after Operation Blue Star, a military action ordered by Gandhi at the Golden Temple in Amritsar, which had outraged sections of the Sikh community.

The events following the assassination plunged India into one of its darkest phases. Large-scale anti-Sikh riots broke out in several parts of India, particularly in New Delhi. Mobs targeted Sikh homes, businesses and gurdwaras, with widespread reports of arson, looting and killings. Thousands of Sikhs were killed over the next few days, while many more were displaced, marking one of the worst episodes of communal violence in independent Indian history.

The riots also triggered a prolonged political and legal battle, with victims' families alleging delayed justice and lack of accountability for those responsible. Over the decades, multiple commissions and court cases have examined the case, bringing renewed attention to the need for justice. The 1984 anti-Sikh riots continue to remain a deeply emotive issue, serving as a stark reminder of how quickly communal tensions can spiral into large-scale tragedy.

Baltej Singh: Family Links And Global Drug Network

Against this backdrop, Singh's arrest in a major international drug trafficking case has drawn much attention. Reports describe Baltej Singh as someone who maintained a low profile in public, while running his complex, transnational drug network. According to investigators, Singh used global supply chains and exploited legal trade routes to run his trafficking network. This made his detection particularly challenging.

As per investigators, Singh's sophisticated trafficking network brought more than 700 kg of methamphetamine into New Zealand. Reports say that the drugs were hidden inside everyday consumer objects like coconut water cartons, kombucha bottles and beer cans, and shipped across borders to evade detection. The operation came to light after a man died after unknowingly consuming meth-laced liquid. The incident happened in 2023 triggering a nationwide probe.
For years, Singh's identity was suppressed by court orders, partly due to fears that his family background and connections might spark backlash. However, that restriction was eventually lifted, with courts saying that there was overwhelming public interest in the case.
With Singh now convicted and sentenced, authorities in New Zealand have called the case a landmark in their fight against organised drug trafficking - both for the scale of the seizure and the methods used to crack it.

They have called for strict action against them, tagging the Delhi Traffic Police to take note of the matter. The video surfaced on Sunday afternoon and have been widely shared since then.

One of the victim bikers recorded the entire incident on camera. He chased the car carrying the minor boy, but the vehicle sped up. When he managed to make eye contact with a woman in the passenger seat and asked her to stop, she laughed and ignored him. The car sped away as he tried to engage them

"Delhi: A boy sitting in a car was seen throwing water balloons at bikers, creating a dangerous situation where a man narrowly escaped an accident. When confronted, his mother appeared to ignore the concern. Such behaviour shows a lack of civic sense. @DelhiPolice please take strict action!" read one post.

This is NOT funny. This is criminal. A kid sitting in the backseat of this car (DL2CBF0212) was throwing water balloons at bike riders on a flyover. One rider was seconds away from a fatal fall… this could have been a death, not a 'prank'. Even more shocking, the woman in the co-passenger seat is seen laughing. This is reckless endangerment. Strict action must be taken before someone actually loses their life," read another post.
People have demanded strict action, heavily criticising the act.

Crime Tracker | Mob, Morality, And Misogyny: What Nalanda Woman Assault Case Reveals About India's Dangerous Vigilantism

A 25-year-old woman - a mother of two - was assaulted, harassed, groped and paraded through a street in Nalanda district's Noorsarai village, by a mob accusing her of having an extramarital affair. The incident has sparked questions about mob justice in India.

Bengaluru. Guwahati. Manipur. And now Nalanda. Across India, women have borne the brunt of a deeply perverse mindset that likes to masquerade as "vigilantism" and mob justice. In Bengaluru, during New Year's celebrations in January 2017, several women were molested by an unruly crowd that sought to justify the assault claiming that the women had "asked for it" by partying late into the night. In Guwahati, in July 2012, a teenage girl was chased down a highway, surrounded and molested by nearly 30 men outside a bar. As per reports, the attack was instigated by a local journalist. In Manipur, two women were paraded naked amidst the ethnic violence that erupted across the state in 2023.

And now in Nalanda, the pattern repeats. A woman who had stepped out to buy groceries was assaulted, groped and paraded through a street by three men, as a crowd followed behind filming the entire incident. Their alleged trigger? As per some reports, the crowd claimed that the woman was living separately from her husband and was having an affair with a local mobile repair technician.

Different years, different cities. But the script remains the same - moral policing by a perverse mob that turns its deeply ingrained misogyny into street assault.

The woman - seen sitting on the street with her head down after the ordeal - told mediapersons how the mob escalated its assault on her: As per varying reports she had stepped out to either recharge her mobile phone or buy groceries when a crowd gathered around her.

Recounting her ordeal, she said, "The members of my own community arrived, after which I was subjected to harassment and physical assault." What followed was not confrontation - it was collective punishment. She added, "The villagers harassed me. The window was blocked by a brick. I removed it and climbed out. As soon as I got out, the people thrashed me and tried to strangle me. Some tried to force me to get married and tried to forcibly apply sindoor on my forehead. I kept weeping and pleaded that I could not get married."
In another account, the woman - described as a mother of two - was returning home with groceries when three men accosted her. They "grabbed her, dragged her along the street, touched her inappropriately, tried to tear her clothes and attempted to rape her while hurling obscenities".
Videos online show one goon grabbing the woman, groping her and forcibly kissing her while she pleads to be set free, as a crowd follows behind.

Mob As Moral Police

What stands out in Nalanda is not just the brutality, but the justification. The violence was framed - implicitly or explicitly - as punishment. The alleged "crime" in both versions: a rumour of an extramarital relationship. The reported attempt to forcibly apply sindoor on the woman shows symbolic control, an attempt to assert patriarchal authority over a woman's body. The mob was not just attacking her. It was trying to "correct" her.
If the assault itself was disturbing, what followed perhaps is even more unsettling. As soon as the attack unfolded, a crowd gathered at the scene, and instead of intervening, many onlookers pulled out their phones and recorded the crime. The assault was captured in clips lasting about 42 seconds. What is worse? The footage shows the perpetrators urging others to continue filming while the woman struggles to be free. And according to some reports, the video was circulated online by the accused after the woman filed a police complaint, thus using the footage as a weapon of intimidation, rather than a proof of their crime.
A social media user summed up the outrage starkly: "In Nalanda, a married woman was publicly assaulted as she pleaded for mercy, while miscreants attempted gangrape and even filmed the act. When she approached the police, the accused allegedly circulated the obscene video. Two arrests have been made, but serious questions remain about safety and justice."
The message is clear: the assault on the woman's dignity did not end on the street - it continued online.
And claims such as alleged "illicit relation" reflects another troubling pattern: the scrutiny of the woman's character alongside the crime itself.

The Bystander Crisis

The Nalanda case also exposes a recurring pattern: the collapse of bystander intervention. Dozens reportedly watched and few, if any, intervened. This is not apathy - it is using violence as consumable content. The presence of cameras seems to embolden perpetrators, not deter them. The act itself becomes both crime and performance.
Police have moved to make arrests, with two accused Ashok Yadav and Matlu Mahto taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to nab the others. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanjay Jaiswal said, "We are currently investigating this case. So far, we have arrested two individuals in connection with this matter, and the third named accused will be arrested very soon." Nalanda SP Bharat Soni said, "So far, three people have been named in the case, out of which two have been arrested. They are from the same village of the victim."
A SIT has been formed to investigate the incident.

Political Blame Game

The incident has triggered sharp political reactions, with Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav calling it a collapse of governance. "It was a gang rape attempt. Those who misbehaved with the woman tore off her clothes. This presents a scary picture of the collapsed law and order in Bihar."
The Rashtriya Janata Dal posted, "Nitish Kumar's so-called 'good governance' is at its peak!"
The Congress went further, drawing parallels with past horrors: "Even before becoming the chief minister of BJP, the beginning of brutality akin to Manipur has occurred from Nitish Kumar's home district in Bihar!" It added, "In Nalanda, a woman was subjected to an extremely disgusting act of mistreatment. The thugs publicly tore the woman's clothes and made a video of it, which they viralized.
"This incident is a stain on society. Those who did this should receive the harshest of harsh punishments. This incident shows that 'jungle raj' prevails entirely in Bihar and women are not safe. The BJP-JDU government has been providing protection to criminals, and now those same criminals are openly roaming the streets and committing such atrocities."

What Nalanda Reveals

At its core, the Nalanda assault is not just about crime. It is about who gets to enforce morality - and how. A few cameras in the hands of a few pervert men masquerading as cultural enforcers results in a dangerous ecosystem where misogyny is legitimised by the size of the crowd, and brutality is amplified by technology.
And as long as suspicion can so easily turn into public violence - and violence into viral content - Nalanda will not be the last such story.

Act Within Marital Relationship, Can't Prosecute Husband: MP HC Quashes 'Unnatural Sex' Charges

In Madhya Pradesh, a woman accused her husband of demanding dowry and committing unnatural sexual acts within their marriage

Bhopal: While the debate around marital rape continues, a woman from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind accused her husband of unjustified dowry demands and of committing "unnatural sex" with her when she failed to fulfil them. The matter was heard on March 25 in the MP High Court, Gwalior Bench, which quashed the ‘unnatural sex’ charges, stating that such charges cannot be prosecuted when the couple is legally married. The woman’s FIR (First Information Report) stated that the husband performed unnatural sexual acts that inflicted severe pain.

“It is apparent that the allegations made by the complainant against petitioner No.1 (husband), even if taken at face value, pertain to acts committed within the marital relationship. In view of the exception carved out under Section 375 IPC (which defines rape) and the judicial pronouncements referred to hereinabove, such allegations would not constitute an offence under Section 377 IPC,” the Court observed, as reported by Bar and Bench.

The Court partly accepted the petition of the husband, who was accused of sexually abusing his wife.

What Was The Whole Case?

The woman alleged that she was harassed by her husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. Despite giving a dowry of Rs 4 lakh at the time of marriage, the family allegedly pressured her for an additional Rs 6 lakh and a Bullet motorcycle.

When she failed to meet these demands, she was subjected to harassment, assault, and threats. She further alleged that her husband forced her to perform sexual acts that caused severe pain. In her complaint, the woman also accused her father-in-law of behaving inappropriately towards her and threatening her with a licensed firearm.
After she filed a formal complaint, the police registered a case under Section 498A (cruelty by husband or his relatives), Section 354 (assault on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), and Section 377 (unnatural offences), which was one of the few legal provisions available to her.
Other provisions related to assault and criminal intimidation were also invoked, along with charges under the Dowry Prohibition Act.

Husband Knocks on HC’s Door

Countering his wife’s allegations, the accused husband approached the High Court, seeking to quash the criminal case registered against him and his family members.
The husband’s counsel submitted that the allegations made by the complainant were exaggerated and inconsistent with her earlier statements during maintenance proceedings.
They further argued that Section 377 cannot be applied to sexual acts between a husband and wife.
The High Court reviewed the law on sexual offences after the 2013 changes to criminal law. These changes widened the definition of rape under Section 375 of the Indian Penal Code to include different forms of penetration, such as oral and **** acts.

What is Marital Rape Exception?

However, the Court pointed out that the law still includes what is known as the “marital rape exception”. This means that sexual acts by a husband with his wife, as long as she is not a minor, are not considered rape under the law.
The Court said that because of this exception, consent within marriage is not treated as legally relevant when deciding whether such acts amount to rape. It referred to the legal position discussed in the 2018 Navtej Singh Johar v. Union of India case.
Since these acts fall under the definition of rape but are exempt within marriage, the Court ruled they also cannot be charged separately as “unnatural offences” under Section 377. As a result, the charge under Section 377 against the husband was dismissed.

Case Against Sister-In-Law Dismissed

The Court also dismissed the case against the sister-in-law, saying the allegations against her were vague and no clear role was mentioned in the complainant’s statement.
However, the Court refused to dismiss the other charges against the husband, father-in-law, and mother-in-law. It said there was enough initial evidence of dowry harassment and physical abuse.
The Court added that claims such as false accusations, inconsistencies in statements, lack of medical evidence, and bad intent cannot be decided at this stage. These issues must be examined during the trial.
The case will therefore continue against the husband and his parents on charges including dowry-related cruelty and criminal intimidation.

Indore: In a horrific incident, a 42-year-old woman was killed after an overspeeding car ran into residents inside a housing colony in Indore late Wednesday night. The incident, followed an argument over a power cut and penthouse used as Airbnb, was captured on CCTV camera. The deceased has been identified as Shampa Pandey, who worked at Infosys. Another woman, a security guard’s wife, was also injured in the incident. Shampa was survived by his husband and two children.

Argument Over Power Cut Turns Violent

According to police, the incident took place in Shiv Vatika township, where a penthouse owned by Kuldeep Chaudhary was being used for rental purposes through Airbnb.
Taresh Soni said, "The incident occurred last time. There is a building in Shiv Vatika township where a person named Kuldeep Chaudhary owns a penthouse here, which is used for the purpose of renting out, registered with Airbnb. The residents of the colony had expressed their disapproval of such a rental existing in the residential premises to Kuldeep Chaudhary. Last night, the colony residents turned off the power to his penthouse."

He further added, "Following this, there was an altercation between the residents and Kuldeep Chaudhary. Soon after, his son, Mohnish Chaudhary, hit some people with his overspeeding car here. In this, Shampa Pandey, a software engineer working in Infosys, suffered injuries and lost her life, and another woman, a security guard's wife, was injured. We have registered a case of murder against Kuldeep Chaudhary and Mohnish Chaudhary, and they have been detained for questioning,"

Husband Recounts Night of Incident

The victim’s husband, Saurabh Pandey, described how the situation escalated.
He said, "Last night around 10 pm, when my wife and I were preparing to go to sleep, the power in our house went out. Upon checking, I found that there was power in the gallery area and some people had gathered on the ground floor. We also saw a penthouse owner standing there. When I asked the penthouse owner if anyone had purposely switched off the power supply to my house, he answered in the affirmative. On this, I argued with him about why he turned off our light when I didn't turn down his light. In the meantime, other people of the society also gathered over there,"

He added, "Suddenly, this penthouse owner rang his son and asked him to bring their car and let's settle this today. As soon as he (the penthouse owner's son) came, he started hurling abuses at us. Suddenly, this man drove his car at a speed of 60-70kmph inside the campus of our housing colony. He first hit a maid and then he hit my wife with his speeding car. As a result of the impact of the hit from the car, my wife's body flew and hit a wall, and she suffered a brain haemorrhage, which led to her death. There is CCTV footage of the incident. The penthouse owner is someone called Chaudhary; we suspect he runs a housing rental service in his penthouse here,"

Injured Woman Shares Account

Another injured woman, identified as Ranu Rawal, said, "I went out after dinner and I went to see a verbal altercation which was underway here last night. During this, Kuldeep's son hit me with his car. After this, he crushed a woman resident to death with his car, broke the gate and ran away. I sustained injuries in my back and leg. The Police had come here last night. I work as a security guard here,"

Accused Detained, Probe On

Police have registered a murder case against Kuldeep Chaudhary and his son Mohnish Chaudhary. Both have been detained for questioning. Officials said CCTV footage of the incident is being examined as part of the investigation.

4 Killed, 18 Injured in Andhra Pradesh Blast — Was It a Cylinder Explosion?

A significant explosion in Andhra Pradesh's Sri Sathyasai district resulted in four fatalities and 18 injuries on April 15. The blast, which occurred around 12:30 PM at a residence in Kummaravandla Palli, is believed to involve both detonators and an LPG cylinder.

A powerful explosion killed four people and injured 18 in the Sri Sathyasai district of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday (April 15). The blast is suspected to be caused by detonators cum LPG cylinder at a house at Kummaravandla Palli at Kadiri mandal. Among the 18 injured, 12 are said to be in critical condition and have been rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment.
Though the explosion, which demolished at least two houses, was being attributed to a gas cylinder blast, it may not be limited to a gas cylinder, given the intensity of the blast, the official told PTI news agency.

"Until now, four people died, and 18 others were injured, including one in a serious condition," the official said.
Earlier, Sri Sathyasai district superintendent of police S Satish said the explosion occurred around 12.30 pm. He said workers from Telangana were living in that house where the explosion occurred.

Was it LPG Cylinder Blast or a Detonator Blast?

The preliminary investigation by the police revealed that several detonators used for quarry blasting were reported to be illegally stacked up at the house where the blast happened, according to a TOI report.

Moreover, in the blast, four adjacent houses were also gutted and reduced to rubble. The bodies of the four victims turned into mounds of flesh due to the intensity of the fire and were hard to identify.

Andhra

Last month, at least 21 people were killed and eight others critically injured after a massive explosion tore through a cracker manufacturing unit in Vetlapalem village in Kakinada district of Andhra Pradesh on March 1. The blast was so powerful that bodies were flung into nearby paddy fields. Police have deployed drones to locate body parts scattered across agricultural land.
The blast occurred at around 2 pm at Surya Fireworks in Vetlapalem village in Samarlakota mandal. Andhra Pradesh Minister Kandula Durgesh, who visited the spot, said the scale of destruction was unlike anything seen before.
"This is the biggest blast in the state. Full details are yet to come. There is no chance that anyone would survive. Some people are undergoing treatment," he said.

Nainital SDM Schools BJP MLA’s Son For Hooting, Shatters His ‘Papa Vidhayak Hai Mere’ Attitude – WATCH

A BJP MLA’s son was pulled up by the SDM in Nainital after using an illegal hooter and flaunting “Papa Vidhayak Hai Mere” attitude.

A display of alleged VIP entitlement on the busy Mall Road in Nainital turned costly for theson of BJP MLA Rajendra Patel after police seized his vehicle on Thursday (April 2) following misconduct and multiple traffic violations. The incident, as per a report by TOI, occurred amid heavy tourist congestion, when a white Toyota Fortuner, blaring a loud hooter, was seen aggressively pushing through traffic.

The vehicle was directly behind Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khaliq, who initially gave way, assuming an emergency or the presence of a senior official. However, when the siren continued despite being allowed passage, the SDM intervened and stopped the vehicle. What followed was a heated exchange.

The occupant identified himself as the MLA’s son and allegedly argued with the officer, invoking political influence and behaving in an unruly manner.

VIP culture in Nainital

As the situation escalated on the road, police personnel reached the spot and took control. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police issued a challan under the Motor Vehicles Act and seized the vehicle on the spot. Afterward, the MLA’s son continued to follow the legal process until evening to secure the vehicle’s release. This action by the administration is being seen as a strong message against VIP culture in Nainital.

During the inspection, authorities found multiple violations. The Fortuner, which carried an MLA sticker, was registered in the name of another individual, Surendra Kumar Singh. More importantly, the driver failed to produce a valid driving licence, insurance documents, or a pollution certificate. Police officials said both the traffic violations and the alleged misconduct with a public servant were taken seriously while initiating action.

The Man Behind 1,000 Hoax Emails: Twisted Revenge of a Mysuru Law Professor Against India's Courts

Delhi Police apprehended a 47-year-old man from Mysuru, Karnataka, for allegedly sending over 1,000 false messages to various courts, government offices, and institutions across India. The suspect, Srinivas Louis, harbored resentment towards the judicial system due to a protracted land dispute involving his father.

The Delhi Police has arrested a 47-year-old man from Karnataka’s Mysuru for allegedly sending over 1,000 hoax messages to courts, government offices and other institutions across India. According to police sources, the accused, identified as Srinivas Louis, was arrested on Monday from his rented accommodation in Mysuru and has been sent to a six-day Delhi Police remand.

Motive Linked to Land Dispute

Sources said the accused had developed resentment towards the judicial system due to a long-running land dispute involving his father in Mysuru.

"The accused, who was responsible for sending over 1000 hoax messages to several institutions, High Courts, and government offices, had a deep resentment towards the judicial system after his father did not get his share in a land dispute in Karnataka's Mysuru, the Delhi Police sources said."

Apparently, Louis’ father was not getting his share of property, which led the accused to lose faith in the system. He later studied law and even qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET), after which he worked as an assistant professor. Police said most of the emails and messages were sent using his mobile phone. He was skilled in hiding his IP address, which made it difficult for authorities to trace him.

He reportedly sent hoax emails not only to courts across multiple Indian cities, including even the Supreme Court of India, but also to a few cities in Pakistan.
"He would send emails multiple times a day and to various locations simultaneously. Most of the emails were composed and sent in either Kannada or English."

Investigation And Arrest

The accused kept changing his residence frequently to avoid being caught. Police said he lives with his mother, who is his only immediate family member. The arrest was made after a detailed investigation and technical surveillance by the Delhi Police. Officials have also reached Mysuru to seize his mobile phone, which was used to send the messages. The probe is ongoing, and police are trying to gather more details about the case.

Offered Help, Then Killed Him: How Nagpur Engineering Students Murdered Drunk Man to Steal His Car

In Nagpur, three engineering students have been arrested for the murder of a 44-year-old man, Suchit Bhojapure, whom they allegedly killed to steal his car and mobile phones. The incident unfolded when Bhojapure, intoxicated and unable to drive, asked for assistance from the students.

A shocking murder case has come to light in Nagpur, where three engineering students allegedly killed a 44-year-old man to steal his car and mobile phones. Police said the incident happened on Thursday night when the three students spotted a red Alto car parked in a risky position on a flyover at Wardhaman Nagar. The driver, identified as Suchit Bhojapure, was drunk and slumped over the steering wheel.
The students approached him and offered help. As he was unable to drive, Bhojapure asked them to drop him a short distance away.

Trip Takes Unexpected Turn

One of the students took the wheel, and during the journey, Bhojapure asked them to drive him to Bhiwapur for a delivery. After finishing the work, he requested them to drop him home near Baba Trimurti Nagar in Wadi. Police said the students even called his wife, who initially asked them to bring him home. However, when they reached and found the house locked, she reacted angrily when contacted again.

According to police, this incident made the students believe that the man was not cared for. They then allegedly decided to kill him and take his car and mobile phones. They drove him to a deserted area near a crematorium on Khadgaon Road, dragged him out of the vehicle and attacked him with stones, killing him on the spot.

The next day, Bhojapure’s body was found in bushes near the crematorium. He was found without clothes and had severe head injuries. After his father filed a missing complaint, police launched an investigation and cracked the case within 12 hours. Police said CCTV footage, technical tracking and call records helped them identify the accused. One of the students had called Bhojapure’s wife, which became a key clue.

The accused, Aryan Shende, Rishabh Kamble and Anuj Ramesh — were picked up from their college campus. Blood stains found on their shoes raised suspicion, and during questioning, they confessed to the crime.
Police later recovered Bhojapure’s car from near one of the accused’s homes. All three students have been arrested and booked for murder. They were produced in court and have been sent to police custody.

Forged Documents, Broken Locks: Mumbai Police Expose Housing Scam in Mankhurd

The Trombay Police in Mumbai have discovered a scam involving forged government documents and unauthorized occupancy of police housing in Mankhurd, leading to the arrest of two women

The Trombay Police in Mumbai have uncovered a scam involving fake government papers and illegal occupation of police housing in Mankhurd. Following which, they have arrested two women, who was living illegally in flats inside a police quarters building developed by MHADA (Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority). Police said that they had received a tip-off about unknown people staying in Building No. 21. When they raided the building, they found two women living in flats numbered 511 and 708.

Police have identified the women as 44-year-old Sufia Khatun Mohammad Shamim Khan, who says she is a social worker, and 22-year-old Shahida Khatun Usama Khan, a housewife.

'Showed Fake Papers'

When questioned, the women showed documents claiming that the flats were officially allotted to them by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, police checked the papers and found that they were fake. The documents had forged signatures in the name of an Assistant Municipal Commissioner from the M-East Ward.
Police said the two women were working with a man named Sansar Khan, who is currently absconding. He is believed to be the main person behind the scam. Investigators say he pretended to be a BMC employee and told Sufia that he could get her a government flat for Rs 5 lakh. She allegedly paid him Rs 2 lakh in cash and gave him her identity documents.

Police believe the group created fake allotment letters and then broke the locks of empty police flats to move in. The fake possession letter was reportedly made in Shahida’s name.
The two flats have now been sealed. Police are checking around 30 other flats in the building to see if more units were taken over using fake documents. They are also searching for Sansar Khan.
Investigators suspect that more people may be involved and are checking whether this scam is linked to other government housing projects in the city.

A road rage incident in Ahmedabad's Dhandhuka town escalated into violence and arson after a motorcycle confrontation resulted in a fatal stabbing.

Ahmedabad: A road rage incident in Ahmedabad's Dhandhuka town spiralled into deadly violence and mass arson on Saturday after an argument over overtaking ended in murder, triggering riots that brought the area to a standstill. According to police, the trouble began when two commuters — one on a motorcycle — got into a heated altercation after an overtaking dispute. The confrontation escalated rapidly, and one of the accused fatally attacked the other. Within hours, news of the killing spread through the locality, and enraged groups poured onto the streets.

Following the incident, the police arrested 15-20 people for their alleged involvement in the violent activities. "We have detained 15-20 people involved in the arson, and their questioning is ongoing. Currently, there is a peaceful atmosphere in the entire village. I want to convey to you that we need the people's cooperation to maintain this peace," said IPS Omprakash Jat, SP Ahmedabad rural.

Arson, Vandalism, and Shutdown

The mob's fury targeted the market area, where several shops, roadside stalls, and parked vehicles were set ablaze. Protesters also vandalised public property, sending residents scrambling indoors. Several shopkeepers pulled down their stores' shutters in panic. The scale of the destruction triggered widespread fear across the town, with locals wary of stepping outside.

Police Move In

Authorities responded swiftly. District Police Chief Omprakash Jat personally rushed to the spot to assess the ground situation. Heavy reinforcements — including SOG (Special Operations Group) and LCB (Local Crime Branch) units — were deployed across sensitive zones, and patrolling was intensified to prevent fresh outbreaks of violence.
"A murder incident occurred in Dhandhuka. Two bikes collided. Based on this, a fight broke out between the two men. After the fight, one young man stabbed another man in the leg with a knife. Consequently, one young man died from bleeding," the SP added.
Senior officers are currently holding mediation sessions with representatives from both communities involved in the dispute, in a bid to defuse lingering tensions. Simultaneously, investigators are combing through CCTV footage and recording eyewitness testimonies to identify those responsible for both the murder and the subsequent rioting.
"The situation is currently under control. We are identifying the perpetrators involved in the arson and violence, and strict legal action will be taken against them," a senior official said.

Always Involved In Corruption": Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta On Arvind Kejriwal

Kejriwal and his AAP repeatedly protested their innocence, which was upheld this morning by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court; it found no "overarching conspiracy or criminal intent in the policy".

New Delhi:
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the people of Delhi "will never forgive" Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party. Speaking to NDTV Friday evening, after the AAP boss and his ex-deputy, Manish Sisodia, were acquitted in the Delhi liquor policy case, Gupta refused to acknowledge their innocence, stating, "They have always been involved in corruption and debauchery."

The AAP leaders were arrested (Sisodia in February 2023 and Kejriwal in March 2024) and jailed, sans trial, on corruption and conspiracy charges. Their detention and twin scandals – the other being the 'sheesh mahal' row – were weaponised by rivals BJP to win the 2025 Delhi election.

Kejriwal and his AAP repeatedly protested their innocence, which was upheld this morning by Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court; it found "no overarching conspiracy or criminal intent in the policy".

The Chief Minister, though, repeated her party's allegations.

When they were in Delhi, they stayed in their 'sheesh mahal' and used all the resources available. They said they didn't want 'VIP culture' but they wanted everything."

Asked if the current Delhi government is planning another investigation, she said, "Everything is with the CAG (i.e., the Comptroller and Auditor General). Every scam – classroom scam, medicine scam, 'sheesh mahal' scam – is under investigation. What will they answer for?"

"Today they are celebrating and shedding crocodile tears, claiming to be clean. If you were clean, why did you run away?" she continued, claiming Kejriwal 'fled' Delhi – to neighbouring AAP-ruled Punjab – after the Supreme Court granted him bail in September 2024.

"Even today, they are using the power of Punjab… enjoying luxury there and building a 'sheesh mahal 2'," Gupta raged, referring to the BJP's fresh claims of corruption against Kejriwal and the AAP, i.e., that Kejriwal has been allotted a Rs 7 crore government bungalow in Chandigarh

"The syndicate that used to work in Delhi has now moved to Punjab and is operating from there... Sisodia and others are also working there. Their secretaries and everything have been moved there. Doesn't this show their intention?" she claimed. "They've packed up from Delhi and moved there. If they loved Delhi so much, they would have stayed and fought."

The prosecuting agency in this case, the Central Bureau of Investigation, has said it will 'immediately' appeal the verdict in the Delhi High Court, arguing that Special Judge Jitendra Singh had either overlooked or not considered several aspects of its investigation.

The judge, in acquitting Kejriwal, Sisodia and nearly two dozen other individuals, including Telangana politician K Kavitha, the leader of the 'South Group', had asked searching questions of the CBI,.

These included asking why it had chosen that term and why it had relied almost exclusively on statements by accused persons turned government witnesses, or 'approvers'.

Nashik:
A 16-year-old boy driving a BMW car hit a scooter from the rear side, seriously injuring its two occupants in Nashik city of Maharashtra, a fallout of a past dispute between the trio, police said on Tuesday.

The under-age car driver, booked for attempt to murder among other charges, fled the spot after the accident, which took place in the Gangapur Road area of the city on Saturday (January 24), but was tracked on the basis of CCTV footage, detained and later sent to a remand home, they said.

Citing preliminary reports, police said the teenager is the son of a government official.

The injured scooter riders are two friends, both in their teens. As per a complaint lodged by one of them, he and his friend were passing through the Gangapur Road area when the 16-year-old boy chased them in his high-end car and hit their scooter hard from behind with the motive to kill them.

Relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act were also invoked, they said.

The police immediately started an investigation and searched for the car based on CCTV footage from the accident spot.

As per CCTV footage, two persons are seen passing from Gangapur Road on a two-wheeler when a red speeding car came from behind and hit their scooter. The hit was so intense that the two were thrown on the road. Local residents took the injured to hospital with the help of the police.

Police have arrested an absconding accused involved in a Rs 4,000 theft case registered nearly 20 years ago, a period during which he kept changing his location and was recently found working as a sugarcane cutter in Latur district of Maharashtra, officials said on Tuesday.

The Mumbai city court judge noticed an issue with his phone's screen on March 30, leading him to contact a number listed online as customer care service

Mumbai:
A Mumbai judge lost around Rs 93,000 to cyber criminals posing as customer care representatives who contcted him through a fake customer care application.

The Mumbai city court judge noticed an issue with his phone's screen on March 30, leading him to contact a number listed online as customer care service. The 46-year-old was then connected to a fraudster posing as a customer support executive.

Per the Mumbai Police, the accused sent an APK file to the judge via WhatsApp and instructed him to download it. The judge was also asked to pay a nominal fee of Rs 20 through Google Pay as reigstration.

The judge went ahead with the payment, allowed the fraudster remote access to his mobile device and banking information. Soon, two unauthorised transactions amounting to Rs 93,000 were made from the judge's State Bank of India (SBI) account.

On seeing the deduction messages, the victim understood that he was targeted by cyber criminals and contacted the police.

The Mumbai Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Tardeo Police Station against an unidentified accused, and an investigation is currently underway.

On the same day, a 25-year-old man was arrested from Jharkhand for allegedly duping a Bombay High Court judge of Rs 6.02 lakh in a cyber fraud case. The accused was connected to at least 36 cyber fraud cases across 10 states, per investigators.

In another shocking case, a 69-year-old retired senior officer from Mumbai was reportedly placed under "digital arrest" for 25 days and defrauded of Rs 1.57 crore in December last year. Fraudsters posed as police and court officials and even staged a mock court hearing via video call, invoking the name of a former Supreme Court judge to intimidate the victim. Acting on the complaint, the Mumbai Police Cyber Cell arrested an auto-rickshaw driver, Ashok Pal, who allegedly allowed the accused to route the defrauded money through his bank account in exchange for a commission.

On Camera, Man Thrashes 28-Year-Old Wife, Runs SUV Over Her In Karnataka

The Kalaburagi superintendent of police said the couple had been married for four years.

In a chilling murder in Karnataka, a man thrashed his wife by the side of a road and then ran an SUV over her.

Officials said Akshay and his wife, Shaila (28), were travelling to Ganagapura, a pilgrimage site, in a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga on Thursday morning. Around 11 am, when they were near Ballurga village, the couple had an argument and Akshay pushed Shaila out of the vehicle.

A video captured by an onlooker shows Akshay grabbing Shaila by the hair as she lies by the side of the road and beating her up mercilessly as she cries for help.

Passersby intervened and helped Shaila into the car after stopping Akshay from attacking her. A few minutes later, however, Akshay drove towards a field and pushed his wife out of the vehicle again. He then drove the SUV over her, and this act was also captured on camera.

Kalaburagi Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu said the couple had been married for four years and were originally from Baramati in Maharashtra.

Preliminary investigations suggest the murder may have been triggered by Akshay's suspicion that Shaila was having an extramarital affair.

"We are probing this and all other angles. The husband has been taken into custody," said an official.

After Doctor Suicide, Someone Used Her Fingerprint To Delete Data On Phone: Family

The family has also alleged that the 'last seen' status on the doctor's WhatsApp account showed activity on the social messaging app even after her death, raising suspicion that someone else used it.

Beed:
The relatives of the woman doctor, who allegedly committed suicide in Maharashtra's Satara district last week, have claimed that someone used the victim's fingerprint to unlock her phone after her death and erased vital information from it.

They have also alleged that the 'last seen' status on the doctor's WhatsApp account showed activity on the social messaging app even after her death, raising suspicion that someone else used it.

The 28-year-old doctor, hailing from Beed district of central Maharashtra and posted at a government hospital in Satara, was found hanging in a hotel room in Phaltan town (in Satara district) on the night of October 23.

In the suicide note written on her palm, she alleged that sub-inspector Gopal Badane raped her on multiple occasions, while Prashant Bankar, a software engineer, mentally harassed her.

The sub-inspector and the engineer were arrested on October 25.

Talking to reporters on Monday night, the victim's uncle claimed that the woman doctor's mobile phone was accessed using her fingerprint after her death, and crucial data was deleted.

"We were informed about the doctor's death by hanging, but by the time we reached the spot (hotel room), her body had already been taken to the hospital. We later found out that a suicide note was written on her hand," he said.

"We suspect that her mobile phone was tampered with after her death. Before we arrived at the spot, someone had used her fingerprint to unlock the phone and erased vital information related to the incident. Her WhatsApp 'last seen' status appears to show activity after her death, which raises further suspicion that the phone was operated by someone else after her death," he said.

The family has also demanded that the case be heard in a Beed district court to ensure an impartial investigation.

Dr Omprakash Shete, the state government's representative coordinating with the woman doctor's family, visited her native place on Monday evening and assured the family that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would be briefed on the matter to ensure justice.

Her family also submitted a memorandum of demands to him.

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) chief Prakash Ambedkar and Congress leader Vijay Waddetiwar also spoke to the victim's family members over the phone and assured their support till justice is delivered.

Residents of Wadwani in Beed observed a bandh on Tuesday, demanding a probe by a special investigation team (SIT) into the alleged suicide of a woman doctor who hailed from the region.

Mumbai Police To Interrogate Mastermind Of Over 1000 Bomb Hoax Mails

Mumbai Police coordinate with Delhi Police to question Srinivas Lewis over hoax bomb threats causing widespread panic.

Mysuru/Mumbai:
The Mumbai Crime Branch has initiated preparations to secure the custody of 47-year-old Srinivas Lewis, who is accused of sending more than 1,100 threatening emails nationwide, including several targeting Mumbai.

In a major breakthrough, the Delhi Police on Monday arrested Srinivas Lewis, the alleged mastermind behind a series of fake bomb threats that triggered panic across the country, from Mysuru in Karnataka.

Officials said the Mumbai Police will soon take custody of the accused for further interrogation.

Investigators suspect that the same individual could also be responsible for over 100 threatening emails reported in Mumbai and nearby areas over the past three years.

According to officials, Srinivas Lewis was apprehended during a joint operation by the Delhi Police in Mysuru.

Preliminary findings indicate that he repeatedly sent hoax bomb threats to sensitive locations such as schools, High Courts, Legislative Assemblies, and various government offices, forcing security agencies to issue alerts and leading to widespread disruption and panic.

Mumbai Police officials confirmed that they are in touch with their Delhi counterparts and are currently analysing the accused's past email activity, including patterns, linguistic style, and digital footprints.

A senior official said that if a concrete connection is established, the accused will be brought to Mumbai for detailed questioning.

Investigators noted that since 2023, a serial email threat sender had been active in Mumbai, often claiming that RDX-based improvised explosive devices had been planted.

These threats led to multiple evacuations of government offices and financial institutions, though all alerts later turned out to be hoaxes.

On March 18, an email was sent to the Regional Passport Office at the Bandra-Kurla Complex, warning that 19 cyanide gas bombs had been planted and would explode at 1:30 pm.

In another incident in May 2025, the Palghar Collector's office received a threat warning of an RDX attack.

Officials said such emails frequently included conspiracy narratives and attempted to mislead investigators by referencing names of South Indian politicians, actors, and YouTubers.

The probe has further revealed that the accused allegedly used multiple digital identities and spoofed email addresses to conceal his identity.

Cyber teams are currently examining email headers, IP logs, and routing data to establish whether there is a direct link between the Mumbai threats and the arrested individual.

Police officials believe the accused deliberately targeted high-profile institutions to maximise fear and disruption.

Preliminary assessments have also raised the possibility that he may have been suffering from mental distress, although authorities emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing and all angles are being examined.

Further details are awaited.

Food Regulator Data Leak: FIR Targets 'Insider' And Not The Media

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of the matter and issued a notice to the Health Ministry, FSSAI and Delhi Police

New Delhi:
Social media users and alleged whistleblowers are facing scrutiny following a data leak at the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI). Government sources told NDTV that the recent FIR linked to the incident is aimed at identifying an 'insider' responsible for leaking confidential inquiry documents, and not at silencing the media.

The case, registered by the Delhi Police against unnamed persons, seeks to trace the origin of sensitive documents related to an ongoing internal probe. Top sources told NDTV: "The leak of the confidential inquiry document is a criminal breach of trust. The culprit is within FSSAI, and the Delhi Police investigation is to find the source of the leak."

The documents in question pertain to an internal inquiry into appointments made in 2021 across multiple levels, including director, joint director and deputy director posts. Complaints over these recruitments surfaced in 2025, prompting FSSAI to initiate a suo motu inquiry in December. Officials said the probe is still underway and the final report has not yet been submitted.

Investigators suspect that portions of the ongoing inquiry were leaked from within the organisation and circulated on online platforms, raising concerns about a breach of confidentiality during a live investigation.

Officials told NDTV that the police action is focused on safeguarding the credibility of the inquiry process. According to sources familiar with the matter, "such leaks could jeopardise the investigation by alerting potential wrongdoers before findings are finalised and action is taken."

FIR Names Social Media Handles

The FIR was registered at the IP Estate Police Station following a complaint on 24 March by FSSAI official Dr Sanjay Kumar. It names several social media accounts, including @khurpenchh, @YTKDIndia, @gemsofbabus_, @IamTheStory_, and @NalinisKitchen.

According to the complaint, these users were part of a "highly coordinated" campaign to circulate "misleading content" and "confidential internal documents", while also criticising the regulator over an alleged lack of monitoring.

Police said action was initiated after detecting the dissemination of inquiry-related material on online platforms. Investigators have also indicated that some of the circulated documents may have been "manipulated" and were originally classified as "highly confidential". Police have invoked provisions under Section 94 and issued summons to the account holders, asking them to produce relevant documents as part of the probe.

Government sources reiterated that the FIR is not directed at any journalist or media organisation, but at identifying those responsible for unauthorised access and circulation of sensitive internal records.

Meanwhile, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of the matter and issued a notice to the Health Ministry, FSSAI and Delhi Police. The notice follows a complaint alleging that action was taken against whistleblowers who raised concerns about alleged wrongdoing in the public interest. The rights panel has sought an action taken report within two weeks.

The decision was taken during a joint security review closed door meeting in the Assembly.

The sources added that the proposed measures, including periodic drills and a centralised alarm system, are aimed at strengthening preparedness and plugging gaps in the security apparatus exposed during the breach.

The investigation so far has revealed that the accused, identified as Sarabjeet Singh (37), had come to Delhi in search of his missing nephew and, distressed by the situation, sought to draw the attention of authorities.

Singh was arrested on Monday evening, hours after he drove an SUV into the Delhi Assembly premises. He breached security by crashing through gate number 2, designated as a VIP entry point, and exited the complex after leaving a bouquet and a garland inside the car of the Speaker, police said.

72 Hours After MNS Workers Slap Mumbai Shopkeeper, Cops To Question Accused

The seven men - members of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which has refused to apologise for the assault - will be deposed at the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office.

Mumbai:
Over 72 hours after a Mumbai shopkeeper was assaulted for not speaking in Marathi - his ordeal filmed and circulated online by the assailants - and over 24 hours after the FIR was filed, the police will finally record the statements of the accused, sources told NDTV Thursday morning.

The seven men - members of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, which has refused to apologise for the assault - will be deposed at the Deputy Commissioner of Police's office.

It is unclear if they will be taken into custody after their statements are recorded.

Action against the accused - the first concrete step in what has been dubbed the 'MNS slapgate' case - comes after sustained pressure by NDTV, and demands for justice for 48-year-old Babulal Khimji Chaudhary, the owner of the 'Jodhpur Sweet Shop' in Mumbai's Mira Road suburb.

The video of the awful assault, which took place past 10.30 pm Sunday and has been widely shared online - showed the MNS goons surrounding Chaudhary and threatening him with worse action, including forcibly shutting down his business, if his staff and he don't speak in Marathi.

Bagharam, a migrant worker from Rajasthan, spoke to NDTV after the assault. He said the MNS thugs wanted to buy bottles of water but when he spoke to them in Hindi, they demanded he speak in Marathi. "I said we speak all languages, so they threatened to beat me up..."

The thugs then accosted Chaudhary and attacked him.

As horrific as the assault was, the matter was compounded after the MNS - ironically leading a protest against the 'imposition of Hindi' in the state - refused to apologise to Chaudhary.

The party accused Chaudhary of being 'arrogant'. It said he had provoked his attackers by stating that all languages are spoken in Maharashtra, a statement that is correct.

Experts have pointed out every Indian has the right to speak the language of their choice, a right primarily protected by Article 19 of the Constitution, which esures freedom of speech and expression.

The party has also complained because seven men were named in the FIR names, while the video shows only three hitting Chaudhary.

Meanwhile, Babulal Chaudhary, whose business has been flourishing on Mira Road for the past two decades, told NDTV he would fight to ensure the MNS goons are held to account. "Mumbai is my 'karmabhoomi'... but now I am living in fear. I want safety, I want to feel safe," he said.

Chaudhary - who intends to hold a protest march despite an ominous 'warning' from the MNS - has been backed by fellow traders, many of whom shut shops for the day to signal their support.

UP Woman Kills Husband, Sleeps Beside Corpse With Children At Night

The woman secretly mixed sedatives into Mehraj's food and, subsequently, summoned Farman and his friend, Adnan, to the house during the night.

Amroha:
A woman, her lover, and his friend were arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district for murdering her husband. The woman slept with her husband's corpse all night, along with their kids, and later fabricated a story claiming that a robbery had taken place.

The victim, Mehraj, was a mason and resident of Amroha's Piplaoti Kala village. His wife, Ruhi, had been involved in an illicit relationship with Farman, the brother-in-law of her own sister, and the couple desired to live together. When her husband discovered this affair, he strongly opposed it.

Ruhi then hatched a plot to kill her husband and remove him from her path. She secretly mixed sedatives into Mehraj's food and, subsequently, summoned Farman and his friend, Adnan, to the house during the night.

They bound Mehraj's feet with a rope and collectively murdered him by slitting his throat with a sharp knife. After carrying out the heinous act, Ruhi slept through the night on a cot situated right next to her husband's corpse, with her two children sleeping beside her. When Mehraj's father arrived at his son's home the following morning, he found his son lying on a cot on the veranda, his hands and feet still bound

In an attempt to shield herself, she fabricated a story claiming she had been assaulted and robbed. However, Mehraj's father grew suspicious and informed the police. Upon taking her into custody and conducting an interrogation, the truth behind the murder was uncovered.

The police have arrested all three and recovered two knives used in the murder, as well as two mobile phones. Following the official disclosure of the crime, the police have sent all three accused individuals to jail, and further investigation continues.

Andhra Endowment Officer Arrested, Assets Worth Crores Found

Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau arrests Endowment Departmentssistant Commissioner in disproportionate assets case after coordinated raids.

Vijayawada:
In a major anti-corruption drive, the Andhra Pradesh Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Endowment Department Assistant Commissioner Kalingiri Santhi in a disproportionate assets case after simultaneous raids at multiple locations in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam on April 7.

Acting on what officials described as "credible information" that Santhi had collected wealth beyond her known sources of income, AP ACB sleuths of the Vijayawada Range registered a case and launched coordinated searches at four premises across the state, including her residence, a garment shop belonging to her mother and the residence of her sister. Searches were also carried out at another property in Visakhapatnam.

During the raids, investigators seized several incriminating documents and unearthed a sizeable amount of details of assets allegedly linked to the officer. ACB officials unearthed details related to a residential flat in Visakhapatnam, a G+2 building in Vinayawada, nearly 770 grams of gold jewellery, close to 3 kilograms of silver articles, cash amounting to Rs 1.15 lakh and bank deposits of around Rs 3 lakh. Officials also found a Volkswagen Polo car, a motorcycle, electronic gadgets and other valuable items.

Santhi, who was recruited through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission in 2020, had served in both Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada. According to officials, she remained under suspension from July 2024 to March 2026 and was awaiting a fresh posting at the time of the raids.

The ACB booked the corrupt officer under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which deals with public servants found in possession of assets disproportionate to their lawful income. After her arrest, Santhi was produced before the Special Court for ACB Cases in Vijayawada, which remanded her to judicial custody till April 21. She was later shifted to the district jail.

Further searches and valuation of the seized assets are still underway, and ACB officials indicated that the total value may increase as the investigation progresses

YouTuber 'Ex-Muslim' Living Under Fake Identity: How Police Arrested Him for 30-Year-Old Murder

Saleem Wastik, a controversial YouTuber, was recently arrested for the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy in Delhi, a crime committed 31 years ago.

A shocking twist has emerged in the story of a controversial YouTuber, Saleem Wastik, who was recently stabbed at his home in Ghaziabad. Police have now arrested him in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy in Delhi nearly 31 years ago. Officials said Saleem Wastik was living under a false identity for decades. Acting on a tip-off, police traced him to the Loni area of Ghaziabad. His identity was confirmed using old records, fingerprints, and photographs.
He has now been sent to Tihar Jail after being sentenced to life imprisonment in the case involving kidnapping, extortion, and murder.

1995 Kidnapping and Murder

The case dates back to January 20, 1995, when Sandeep Bansal, son of a Delhi-based cement businessman, left for school but did not return. The next day, the family received a ransom call demanding Rs 30,000. The kidnappers asked the father to leave the money in a bus near the Loni flyover and warned him not to inform the police. However, the family approached police, and a case was registered at Gokulpuri Police Station.

During the probe, a neighbour reported seeing the boy with a man known as ‘Masterji’. Police tracked down Saleem Khan — now known as Saleem Wastik, who was then a martial arts instructor at Ramjas School in Daryaganj.

He later confessed to the crime and led police to a drain in Mustafabad, where the child’s body was found. His accomplice, Anil, was also arrested. Police recovered the boy’s belongings, including his school bag, tiffin box, and watch, which were used as evidence in court.

Conviction and Escape

In 1997, a court in Karkardooma Court convicted both Saleem and Anil and sentenced them to life imprisonment. They challenged the verdict in the Delhi High Court. Saleem was granted interim bail in 2000 but later absconded and never returned. In 2011, the High Court upheld his life sentence, but by then, he had disappeared.
Police said Saleem declared himself dead and took on new identities such as Salim Wastik and Salim Ahmed. For years, he lived in places like Karnal and Ambala in Haryana, working as a wardrobe maker. Around 2010, he shifted to Ghaziabad’s Loni area, where he opened a women’s clothing store. Over time, he became known as a YouTuber and social activist, often posting controversial videos on religion and terrorism, according to NDTV report.
Sources said a Bollywood producer was planning a biopic on his life and had even paid him an advance. However, his arrest stopped the project.
Last month, Saleem was attacked at his home in Ghaziabad by two men. CCTV footage showed the attackers entering his house and stabbing him multiple times. During the attack, the assailants were heard saying, "You are insulting our Prophet, you are insulting our Lord".
He suffered serious injuries to his neck, abdomen, and ear and was rushed to hospital. He was later shifted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for treatment.
A case was filed by his son, Usman.
Police later identified the attackers as Zeeshan and his brother Gulfam. Both were carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh. Zeeshan was killed in a police encounter on March 1, while Gulfam died from injuries on March 3.
The case has now brought renewed focus on how a convicted criminal managed to evade law enforcement for decades while living in public view.

Over 600 Indian SIM Cards Sent To Cambodia For Cyber Fraud, 5 Arrested In Hyderabad

Officials said the gang had secretly transported more than 600 Indian SIM cards to Cambodia since 2023. Investigators believe these SIM cards were used for online crimes such as phishing, fake calls, identity theft and extortion

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested five people after uncovering a network that was illegally sending Indian mobile SIM cards to Cambodia, where they were allegedly used by cyber fraud gangs to cheat people across India.

Officials said the gang had secretly transported more than 600 Indian SIM cards to Cambodia since 2023. Investigators believe these SIM cards were used for online crimes such as phishing, fake calls, identity theft and extortion, leading to losses worth crores of rupees.

The case came to light on March 31 when one of the accused, Syed Ashraf Ali, was stopped at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad while allegedly attempting to fly to Cambodia with 198 SIM cards hidden in his luggage.

Immigration officials detained him and later handed him over to TGCSB officers. During questioning, Ashraf reportedly told investigators that he was part of a larger gang led by Rizvan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh who is believed to have links with a fraud syndicate operating in Cambodia. Police said Rizvan arranged for SIM cards to be collected from local agents in Hyderabad and other locations.

According to investigators, many of the SIM cards were obtained using fake documents or by misusing the identity papers of innocent people. Police said three of the arrested men were running Airtel and Jio point-of-sale centres and knowingly supplied active SIM cards to the gang. One more suspect, identified as courier Arvind Kumar, is still on the run.

"This is not a small operation. The network has several layers and people working both in India and abroad," said Shikha Goel, Director of TGCSB.

She added, "Fraudulently obtained SIM cards are a serious threat because they help criminals hide their identity and make it harder for police to track them."

The cyber security bureau has advised people not to share personal documents carelessly and to check the Sanchar Saathi website to see whether any unknown SIM cards have been issued in their name.

Raids At Telangana Deputy Collector's Home In Disproportionate Assets Case

Venkat Reddy was arrested by ACB officials after he was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 while handling a school contract renewal case in December last year

Hyderabad:
The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has launched detailed inspections and raids in a widening disproportionate assets investigation involving Deputy Collector A Venkat Reddy.

Venkat Reddy was arrested by ACB officials after he was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 60,000 while handling a school contract renewal case in December last year. Following his arrest, he was suspended from service. Now, based on the investigation and new information that Venkat Reddy may have amassed assets far beyond his known official income, a deeper probe into disproportionate assets was launched.

The ACB conducted searches at around 10 locations connected to Venkat Reddy across Telangana, including his residence in Manchirevula Villas at Hanamkonda and other properties. Raids are also being conducted in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts as part of coordinated action.

Officials reportedly seized crucial documents and evidence tied to various assets and property transactions.

The ACB sleuths are now examining the extent and origin of Reddy's wealth.

Reddy's bank documents, property records, and other financial papers are also being verified.

Officials have not yet released official details on the total value of the assets under scrutiny, but it is suspected that the assets are worth several crores. If the ACB concludes that Reddy's assets are indeed disproportionate to his lawful income, he could face further legal action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

While hearing a petition against a Bombay High Court order denying bail to a man named in a case involving a firing incident inside a police station, the Supreme Court quipped the case reminds them of the Hindi film 'Singham'.

A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta was hearing a plea by Kunal Dilip Patil, an accused in the case of ex-corporator and Shiv Sena leader Mahesh Gaikwad being shot at by former BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad inside Maharashtra's Ulhasnagar police station last year. Mr Patil has been accused of restraining Mahesh Gaikwad's bodyguard during the shootout.

The shooting allegedly stemmed from bitter rivalry and land dispute between the two politicians. The Bench said the incident is cinematic enough to be a script of its own, with Justice Mehta adding that, "This gave us the memory of 'Singham'. It should be a story with a tagline." Joining in on the joke, Mr Patil's advocate Siddharth Dave said such a story would probably be made into a film in a few years.

Mr Dave argued that his client was not inside the cabin from where the BJP leader had fired the shots, adding that he was not named in the original FIR. He further said that Mr Patil's role was similar to that of the co-accused, all of whom had been granted bail in the case.

The Bench issued a notice to the Maharashtra government on the bail plea of the accused and sought a reply.

"If Cops Ask, Say We Are Friends": Bengaluru Surgeon Told Lover After Killing Doctor Wife

Mahendra Reddy had allegedly killed his wife, Kruthika Reddy, by administering an overdose of an anaesthetic drug at their residence.

Bengaluru:
A Bengaluru surgeon, accused of killing his dermatologist wife, had allegedly planned a cover-up with his lover, according to new chats that have surfaced about a year after the sensational murder.

Mahendra Reddy was arrested in October last year, nearly six months after he allegedly murdered his wife, Kruthika Reddy, by administering an overdose of an anaesthetic drug at their residence.

The incident dates back to April 21, when Kruthika allegedly fell ill at home. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by Mahendra, where she was declared dead. It initially appeared as a natural death, but suspicions later arose among investigators.

According to police officials, Mahendra allegedly used his medical knowledge to make the death appear natural and avoid immediate suspicion.

During the course of the investigation, police uncovered that the accused was in a relationship with a nurse, Harishtha.

Investigators found incriminating communication between the two, which became a crucial part of the case.

Authorities revealed that the accused deliberately avoided conventional messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and instead used UPI payment applications to send messages - an attempt to evade detection.

Police have compiled a massive volume of digital and forensic evidence against him, which has been included in the chargesheet. This includes over 10.34 lakh digital files recovered by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), along with PhonePe chats, deleted data, intimate photographs, and other key materials.

Some of the messages allegedly sent by the accused to Harishtha indicate prior planning and consciousness of guilt, sources said.

In a message, he wrote, "Do not text or call me anywhere after you see this message. I will call you once everything is settled. Mostly police will call you to ask what's our relation, tell we are friends..."

In another message, he stated, "I don't have proof but I have killed Kruthika. I will go behind bars..."

Further messages suggest emotional distress and acknowledgement of wrongdoing, with the accused stating he would "live life like a murderer".

Mahendra and Kruthika got married in May 2024. They were both working at a hospital in Bengaluru.

A local court has rejected Mahendra's bail application, citing the gravity of the allegations and the strength of the digital evidence collected.
