Dale Steyn among the top three pacers of all time, says Waqar Younis

This 'top three pacer of all time' averages 26.09, at E/R of 3.36, has taken 147 wickets in 59 innings, in 33 matches, away from home against the Top 8 sides.

Excluding Windies, this 'top 3 pacer of all time' averages 27.00, at E/R of 3.36, has taken 132 wickets in 54 innings in 30 matches, away from home against the Top 8 sides.

Not sure what all this hype is about.

South Africa has always been a fast bowler's paradise.

Stats, visual evidence, and statements from players confirm this fact. Almost any player who has played a few series there can take tons of cheap wickets.

Compared to now? Wasim Akram was rubbish against better teams in easier time to bowl.

Even his haters wouldn't say that (does the ATG have haters?)

You seem to be a level above a hater.

i would put him 4th among the fast bowlers i have seen- mcgrath, ambrose, donald, steyn

Ya like Wasim Akram, Anderson etc have absolutely dominated in SA. What a joke if an argument.

Wasim Akram dominated opposition in South Africa, much more than Steyn or many other bowlers. In ODIs.

Throughout his elaborate career, Wasim Bhai only got the opportunity to play in South Africa for only two Test matches.

In ODIs, he got the opportunity to play against a lot of opposition and in different seasons, in South Africa and around the world.

Wasim Bhai's performance and stats both stand much higher than Steyn or many others.

Fact is Wasim sucked in england SA NZ Austrlia etc despite playing in so called helpful conditions

Ponting and Sachin were on their last legs, KP smashed him, made him look like a nothing bowler, while I don't rate others much.
KP hit a couple of fours and a six but Steyn has gotten him out on nought too. Gilly, Jayasurya etc smashed Wasim all over the park. Almost all the teams smashed Akram like he was nothing

Fact is Wasim Bhai, even statistically, outplayed Steyn in Tests, which is Steyn's favoured format, AWAY against Top 8 sides.

In Australia:

Wasim Bhai - 36 Wkts at 24.05, in 9 Matches, 15 innings, despite all the dropped catches, denied LBWs, denied wickets, infighting etc.

Dale Steyn - 30 wickets at 28.03, in 6 matches, 11 innings, with a fantastic saffer fielding unit backing him up and against a team that was no more the superb all time great Aussie line up.

In New Zealand:

Wasim Bhai - 50 Wkts at 17.18, in 7 Matches, 13 innings, despite all the ...

Dale Steyn - 9 wickets at 26.55, in 3 matches, 6 innings, S/R of 66.88

In England

Wasim Bhai - 53 Wkts at 28.73, in 14 Matches, 23 innings, despite all the ...

Dale Steyn - 23 Wkts at 31.65, in 5 Matches, 9 innings

In South Africa:

Wasim Bhai - played only two (2) test matches in his entire Test career spanning 17 years.

No meaningful sample in Tests, but he did play a lot of ODIs in Saffer conditions to make meaningful comparisons.

In South Africa, ODIs:

Wasim Bhai - 43 Wkts at 19.39, at E/R of 3.90, in 24 Innings of 24 Matches, with 3 4-wkt hauls, 2 5-wkt hauls, and 2 MoMs

Dale Steyn - 77 Wkts at 23.83, at E/R of 4.54, in 47 Innings of 47 Matches, with 4 4-wkt hauls, 1 5-wkt hauls, and 1 MoM

Quite comfortably, Wasim Bhai outplays Dale Steyn in Tests and in every format, even statistically, the only criterion by which Dale Steyn supposedly has a distant chance of comparing himself with Wasim Bhai.

In terms of skills, talent, domination, variation, control, completeness as a bowler (versatility), durability and unplayability, dominance over opposition's best batsmen - there is just no comparison between the most talented and complete fast bowler of the last 45 years that is Wasim Bhai with Dale Steyn who is this generation's best fast bowler in only one format.

I can show you multiple videos where Dale Steyn was hit for consecutive sixes by mediocre, no name or great batsmen.

Can you show me any video where Gilly and/or Jayasuriya and/or any other batsmen hit Wasim Bhai for three consecutive boundaries, including at least two sixes?
