What's new

David Warner 151* as Australia pile on 312/1 at Stumps on Day 2 against Pakistan at the Gabba

To wrap up early and also win by an innings?

So why not score 600?

EDIT: You know what don't worry about it. It's nearly 5am and I'm not getting into a silly debate over this just because I'm tired and cranky about Pakistan getting battered as usual in Australia. :))

Can we please add:

At The Gabba tall fast bowlers like Hazlewood can exert incredible control when the ball goes soft.

Pakistan needed Sameen Gul and Ehsan Adil for this match, even if they never play anywhere else (except for Johannesburg and Centurion).

Why do you want Abbas, as per another thread, in the side then?

What can a coach and captain, both timid by nature say to inspire a team? Nothing.

Goes to show how bad our batting was on this wicket. On these pitches, scoreboard pressure makes all the difference. We got knocked out of the game on the first day itself tbh.

Not that I think Abbas is some world beater but this is what happens when you replace the most accurate international bowler with a below average trundler like Imran khan.

Not to say Warner and Burns didn't batted fantastically but would Abbas made a different? He's been your best test bowler for past year or two

We got rid of Mickey for trying to put together a team with two all rounders so we can have a balanced bowling attach. And we got a Misbah in exchange who Is ready to call Zulfiqar Babar by the next game, I reckon.

A tall Shadab who can spin miles and bat better than Shakib, a 6 ft 7 Faheem who destroyed SA with both bat and ball aka Stokes are needed here.

Warner, Smith and Kohli when set always cash in and score big 100s.

When I switched on in the first session earlier, the pitch of balls were untidy to say the least. I think you should watch the first session again.

Imran was all over the place, Shaheen was pretty consistent. From what I remember, the pitch map they showed didn't distinguish between them.

This was Misbah's strategy to curb Smith. Don't allow him to bat by not taking any wickets, Genius!

Prediction. Imran Khan will be back with a bang now. Removing Warner and Smith in the same over.

What a dream that was.

21 no balls haven't been called today that's extra 21 runs and more than 3 overs that should've been bowled again. Hope waqar is watching and works on this. I guess we will have another wicket to a no ball soon.

The PM needs to act in national interest for once and demand immediate resignation of Wasim Khan.

Anyone who can see through his British accent and the “I left ECB to help Pakistan cricket” drama can tell that he is completely clueless and and up to no good. ECB must be delighted to see his back.

After this tour, Wasim and Misbah have to be removed from their respective roles.

Everyone except Misbah and his loyalists knew that Imran’s performance in the warmups meant nothing. He never was and never will be good enough for this level.

This is the kind of pressure we need to built every over, every ball. Our field placements have been so negative.

Not a fan of watching cricket in Australia. The ball does not seam or swing. Nothing in it for spinners. The pitches are like playing in indoor nets. The grounds are massive.

You have to be really really good to extract something out of it. Otherwise anyone can be treated like pie chucker by good batsmen.

Why they still bowling Yasir. Guy is on the decline in the UAE and has always been trash away from UAE

Need to have more threatening field placements. We are essentially creating no pressure.

You must have not seen the test series against India last summer then. You need a good all-round attack to get something out of these pitches.

Wanna tell us more about why Imran should’ve been picked ahead of Abbas.

This pitch is not a pacy pitch for normal speeds. At 85 kph Yasir shah is not going to hurry these guys. He gotta bowl flippers and wrong uns once in a while

Wonderful 100 by Warner. Very disciplined. Not many irresponsible shots. Kept the bat close to the body most of the time.

Yeah if you have 3 or 4 6ft plus bowlers who all bowl in excess of 140 then you might have a chance but on the whole it's not a great spectacle.

Always prefered watching cricket in England where its a lot more even between bat and bowl

True but the few overs I saw both Shaheen and Shah had one loose delivery per over.
But again first session..

Shaheen, Nasim, and Yasir have been putting on good pressure. The problem is that we all know what's going to happen as soon as Imran comes back on...

Shaheen hasn’t been great either. His pace is down and bowling fairly defensively.

This hundred has no credibility, but well it boosted his numbers and put his team in a winning position so he doesn’t care.

Pakistani players are so soft. They will be traumatized this and meekly surrender for the rest will of the series

Height won't make a good enough diff. This Pakistani team is just not good enough.

They have good pace, yes. But haven’t really seen batsmen being beaten too often today - looked like a comfortable romp for the batsmen.

If you keep the ball around the off stump long enough eventually you will find one catching the upper edge of the bat. Problem with this rookie attack is they are not patient enough to keep the ball in the channel long enough. Also far too many noballs. It means they are looking for speed more than anything else. If Pak bowlers have to learn from someone it is Hazlewood who is a wonderful channel bowler. But he moves the ball though.

Scoring a century against pak holds probably the same amount of weight as scoring one against Zimbabwe

I really hope Australia bats long enough to allow Smith to score a hundred as well.

It is fine and dandy for a first Test. Will the fast bowlers be able to withstand the slogging required for Test match cricket?

At least Yasir isn’t going at 7 an over yet. That is a positive for me, because I expect nothing less when he steps out of Asia.

Pak cricket shall be humiliated further under Misbah. It will be written as a black chapter in Pak cricket history.

415 is the highest opening partnership in Test Cricket.

323 is the highest opening partnership in Australia.

Can these two make history?

More Misbah magic: Pakistan played Imam regularly in South Africa and he started getting the hang of things. Despite seeing Haris’s mediocre form all tour he chose to bench Imam instead

Pakistan have been generous with opening pairs. Gibbs and Smith, Sehwag and Dravid in Pakistan etc.

It’s a super flat pitch and these batsmen are too good to miss out. I am no longer watching game, but I am sure we are displaying our multigenerational timidity in the field in Australia

Alot of its due to the KOOKABURRA BALL.
Rubbish ball, loses it lacquer and seam in 20 overs and rarely reverses.
ICC should make the duke ball compulsory in all forns of cricket.

This reminds me of India's test at centurion. First day pitch was super spicy. Then it became a flat deck. India had Sreesant, Ishant, Unadakat (first and last test). They piled up 600 plus in no time. Although here the pitch was nothing to close to spicy.

Yasir shah is just too full. Honestly this guy should never have been selected for this tour especially on these wickets

Our only hope is to bore these two into dismissals. We are bowling like a cheap bowling machine. Monotonous, boring, pathetic bowling.
