Did Babar Azam & team management botch-up the declaration decision in 1st Test against Australia?

Did Pakistan declare at the right time?

Massive blunder!

The Aussies are going to have the game in the their hands now.

This management is so clueless, that they played an extra batsman on this strip!!

This botch up will likely cost us the game. Australia will bat in the second and third session tomorrow and at 4rpo and try to go 100-150 ahead if possible. Pakistan will fold in the last two sessions, not by Lyon, but by Labu.

Well well well They certainly messed it up Aus are playing on same pitch and are scoring at 3.7 runs per over

Like many said looking back now 470 is an between score Either they shouldve batted on in 3rd day and scored 550 or ideally scored quicker and scored same Theyve given the aussies a sniff

Pakistan will need to bat well on last day or they could lose this now...

Dont rule out scoreboard pressure.

If Aus can take the score to 600 at the end of Day 4, anything can happen.
If Pakistan can get Aus all out in the next 2 sessions, and give a target of 200 with 2 sessions to go on Day 5, anything can happen.

However as of now, scenario 1 looks more likely.

Not sure you're serious or joking , assume the later as I know you understand the game well.

Well so far it seems that whenever the declaration was, it wouldn't have made any difference at all.

Terrible track and a terrible advert for cricket in Pakistan and Test cricket.

On the contrary, I think whatever the case may be, but for now, this game has simply indicated the obvious fact, and that is - “Australia is solidly a better quality team than Pakistan”

They are playing better because they ARE better in almost every aspect of the game. (Both on paper and in the field)

We had a little advantage of exploiting the home crowd support but the mindset is locked into Misbahism - “Defensive and on the back-foot approach from ball one when we started our batting innings.

You are thinking about “safety first” before the match/series even begins.

This over cautious and cowardice approach is not only very dumb but has the hints of selfishness too.

Brilliant post. Completely agree. Misbaism has taken hold of our cricket. I don’t know when we’ll come out of that. Things like this take time, and with fresh players it may happen some time in the future. Unfortunately the PCB’s ridiculous decision to make him coach / CS allowed him to influence another generation.

Who knows after a few years he may be back again to indoctrinate another generation.

The spot fixing scandal was the worst thing to happen to Pakistan cricket. The shame of it all is secondary to the fact it revived misbah’s career

I believe Pakistan's mindset going into the first Test in Rawalpindi has been to make sure they don't lose.

That is evident with the pitch they have prepared, the team selection and the way they batted.

Worst case scenario draw the first Test and then be a bit more adventurous in the 2nd and 3rd Tests perhaps.
