Did the England ODI series prior to the World Cup cost us at the start of WC2019?

For two reasons mainly.

1-Shaheen are best odi bowler for past 6 months got couple of pastings on those motorways and lost confidence and hence missed out on the starting eleven spot for first half of the tournament prior to the start of the England tour many expected him to be among on the first names on the team sheet.

2- The game against the westindies due to their experience from the odi series went in with the mindset of needing to score 350 to post a par score when in realty it was a 220-230 track .Some rash strokes played. And found themselves 70-5 and the lower order folded thinking they will fall short by atleast 100-150 of the par score had we hung in and got to 180 we may have have stretched the game to atleast the 40 over.

That England ODI series was definitely deceptive. Pitches in that ODI series were way different than most World Cup pitches.

Pakistan could've beaten West Indies had they posted 150-180.

Partly agree with Shaheen’s low confidience. But he should have been able to find the right line and length. If you keep bowling on Bairstow’s legs he will keep hitting you. Was also missing Riaz and Aamir who at least could have guider him on the field.

Re the second part. This is professional game. You need to adapt to all given conditions and make adjustments accordingly.

The thing is they thought it was the same type of track so it is not a question of adjusting it was after 4-5 games in the World Cup that most teams realise that these were 270-280 par tracks and not 340/350 which were norm prior to world Cup

We had some good performances despite losing 4-0. However, were we prepared for that tent bridge pitch against West Indies? Such a drastic difference compared to the pitches we played on against England. I wont be surprised if those pitches were tailored for England, as most pitches England have played on during this world cup seemed to be similar.
