Test century No.13 for Dinesh Chandimal - wonderful innings #SLvAUS

I thought Chandimal has retired but he is still playing!

Well played.

Superb knock.
Very difficult to dislodge him in this form.

Dinesh Chandimal brings up his fifth Test 150; his third in Galle

Good player.

I can't believe Sri Lanka dropped him in the past. Other players didn't do much better than him.

Has to be one of the very best test innings in recent memory. For the most part it was an exhibition of patience and concentration...a blueprint on how to bat in these conditions. And then in the latter half it took off and just became something incredibly fun to watch as he smacked around two of the best fast-bowlers in the world from pillar to post...all while batting with a No.11.

I think he added something like 49 runs for the last wicket. A partnership in which his partner scored zero runs and faced 9 balls.

That's how you bat with a tailender, by the way.

Important runs from Chandimal at the moment vs Pakistan in 1st Test - 54*

Defying Pakistan bowlers and potentially an innings that could hurt Pakistan

One of the most talented batsman to come from Sri Lanka over last decade or so. He had his ups and downs though.

Has been a very good test batter for SL. In LOIs, his game is definitely limited, but he has molded his batting to become a very effective test batter.
Seems to get a lot of flak from Sri Lankan fans.

Chandimal was too reckless today. If he had batted like Azhar Ali, he’d still be at the crease.

Left stranded on 94. An excellent innings though, put his team in a commanding position

Thought he'd have a much better career than he eventually did. Better late than never though to make up.

Seen some Sri Lankan pundits favourably comparing Chandimal’s red hot form to the Bairstow run of this summer.

Dinesh Chandimal rose to the occasion with a brilliant century, marking his 15th in Test cricket against Afghanistan in the only Test. He scored 107 off 181. His century has put Sri Lanka in a commanding situation on Day 2.

A top player.

SL should've played him more. I believe he was dropped before (which was surprising considering his replacements were far worse).

A very underrated test batter. I remember before debuting in tests, he had a SR of 70+ in FC and was said to know just one way of playing which was to go after the bowling.
The advances he's made in those 12 years is admirable. He strikes at 48 in Test Cricket. He's properly changed his method of batting and has worked quite hard on his defense and scoring runs in a different manner.
However, he shouldn't be playing ODIs or t20is. SL have a lot of good dynamic batters in their domestic who suit the demands of LOI cricket.

His career has had a wayward trajectory. When he first showed up, he was thought of a new generation of dynamic batters who liked taking the bowlers on. But once his honeymoon period ended, his lack of shots and limitations in LOIs became very clear. But he worked extremely hard on his game to develop a different method of scoring runs. He tightened his defense, minimised his risk taking approach(in tests), and developed oodles of patience. He's become one of SL's better test batters in their entire history.
He's played 75+ tests I think. He'll probably get to 100 tests at 40+ average which is totally fine for a good test batter.
