LMAO after 13-14 years of international cricket he finally plays a match winning knock.
With this knock now he would be permenant member of playing11 and breathing down the neck of ms dhoni.
With good ipl he can seriously claim for wicketkeeper spot in 2019 wc.
One of the best T20 knocks ever.

He played a match winning test knock at the age of 19 against Pakistan. He underachieved given his potential. Also go back to India's first ever T20. He was the man of the match.
What under achieved? He was just born in the wrong era to share an era with arguably the GOAT keeper in ODI’s is not his fault.. He just never got a consistent run during his peak years because of Dhoni..
Same thing happened to McGill, Badrinath, Haddin and few others whose names I can’t remember I guess..
I think both Dhoni & Karthik will be part of the team from now on. Karthik used to be a tremendous fielder too ... still remember his catch at slip to dismiss Graeme Smith in the 2007 T20WC. Don't know how he fields these days but will still be better than Jadhav/Iyer.
He is technically a far superior batsman to Dhoni. But Dhoni's x factor trumped Karthik. Dinesh Karthik did have good outing in England and SOuth Africa as a test opener. Just that he didn't move on to next level. Consistent domestic performances is still keeping him in the radar. Hope he makes up for all the lost years. A fine batsman to watch when in full flow.
Kartik always seemed to be a technically far superior batsman to Dhoni in tests even before. How did Saha get in instead of Kartik when Dhoni retired. An Indian fans can throw some light?

As if he is regular player in the team

happy for him, he always looked a decent player when I saw him, but it never clicked.
When you say awful. What do you mean? He is known for taking absolute blinders. Sometimes he misses out on dollies. But that was years back. Not the same anymore. He has done keeping for a while since he is back. Don't see any mistakes. His reach is much better than both Saha and Dhoni because of his acrobatic abilities.I will jump off a building before selecting Karthik over Saha in my test team.
Karthik the wk is just awful.
As a batsman, talented but inconsistent to the core.
He played an unreal inning but Mr cool?

I can see where SIF is coming from. Saha has played ultra patient knocks. Don't think Karthik can do that. But yes he is the more dangerous batsman.
The truth is DK is still the worst specialist batsman in Indian cricket history to have played 100+ International games (All formats combined)
Well played in the final but 11-12 years and still a nobody means a TTF

IPL will show if he is a certified clutch or if this was a one off. Apparently he's the captain of KKR.

I meant what i said.
He is a rubbish wk. Few great takes mean nothing.
Him and Parthiv are just awful.
Will Dhoni be dropped from the T20I team?
Should be, although won't be. He has added little value to the T20I team over the years.
Moreover, I echo SRT's views on the format - it is for young cricketers to get exposure and opportunity to play under pressure. If not for DK, Dhoni should allow some young WK batsman to replace him (Pant, Samson, KL). We have not won anything substantial in this format since the first world cup, might as well rejig the team.

That makes a lot of sense. As a Pakistan fan, I know first hand how dangerous it is to select a keeper based on batting skills. I gotta say though that Kartik looks like a better bet even as a specialist batsman than some of the other options you have. Looking at you, Jadhav and Pandey.
Another question: I was talking to my roomate who's from Chennai and he claims that Kartik didn't get anywhere close to the chances he deserved in comparison to say, Rohit Sharma, simply cause of a regional bias in selections. Any truth in that?

That is true. That has always been the case. Maybe nowadays the bias is not so strong but except @SIF everyone else knows that DK should have played more for India
Regional biases were always there (its even there now) but Karthik lost his place because he was inconsistent.
Look at his stats. The sample sets aren't small.
He looked like he turned over a new leaf in 2013 but was dropped after he started flopping.
I hope he has really changed now (has been scoring prolifically in domestic cricket) but i won't hold my breath.
I thought India made a huge mistake never giving Uthappa 2.0 a proper run.
its partly true , DK probably deserved a longer than he got , but on big problem was he was tagged as a Wk-Bat though he was good enough to play as a batsmen alone . This kind of killed his chances as he was always seen as a backup option for Dhoni till recently .
As for Rohit , thats a very poor example . No one in Indian cricket got the number of chances he got to prove is "talent" for reasons only the selectors know .
So clearly Kartik should've got a chance before with a strong hint of regional bias playing a role. That's good; I always feel for people like Fawad Alam who keeps churning out runs domestically and never get a chance.
Watched the whole Indian innings to make sure the claims of greatness are not exaggerated. In the end, the hype was worth it. Hats off to him, what a knock. The last ball six was harder to make than what Miandad actually did as he got a full toss. Plus, Minded needed four runs so a boundary would have been enough but in Karthik's case, it was six or burst. However, Miandad literally carried the whole innings on his shoulders unlike Karthik.

Normally I would dismiss any comparison with the Miandad six but considering how the BD fans still talk about the 2007 win, Karthik probably saved us for a few years. And that makes it an extremely significant knock, even keeping aside its quality.
However, I would rate the impact of the Miandad six higher because I don't see Bangladesh feeling the six culturally the way India did.
The Miandad six phenomenon was also a product of its times and if it were to happen today, I don't see the Indian team looking nervy in future encounters or the fans feeling their vibes. Cricket is significantly less personal to our lives nowadays.
Thats not entirely true. Even a 4 would have meant that the match went to super over. So it was not 6 or bust.
Also, Miandad’s 6 came against their biggest rivals. As much as Bangladeshi fans may insist, the fact is India - Bangladesh rivalry in non existent.
It was a great innings nonetheless and should be considered legendary as it spared us another nagin dance.
Pakistan legend Javed Miandad congratulates Indian hero Dinesh Karthik
Mumbai: Dinesh Karthik did a Javed Miandad — hitting a six off the last ball — to take India home in a thrilling final of the Nidahas Trophy in Colombo on Sunday. The Pakistan legend, who had pulled off a heist against India in 1986, on Tuesday congratulated Karthik for his spectacular show.
“I didn’t watch Karthik’s knock, I read about it in the papers. It requires a lot of confidence to hit a last-ball six. It is a pity for the bowler though,” Miandad added.
Miandad then wanted to know the boundary distance of the Colombo stadium. “Hitting a last-ball six has not remained unusual in modern-day cricket. My six is always compared with the other batsmen but one should remember that in those days, it was very difficult to pull it off. No batsman would ever think of it,” Miandad said.
The former Pakistan cricketer said the introduction of T20 has changed the dynamics of the game. “Power hitting has become common these days. Now, even scoring 30 runs in an over is possible,” he said. “I am proud that my last ball six is still remembered by the fans,” he added.

Tbf I don't recall other ones than Karthick and Miandad in INTL games where it got the team to victory.
