And dropped in the next game
Won't be surprised if he never plays again. Such is Koach!

And dropped in the next game
Brendan Taylor v Mortaza in an ODI in Harare 2006
Klusner v NZ in a game in 1999 in Napier
Chanderpaul v SL Trinidad 2008 also did it (the only guy to have won the game with a six off last ball when SIX was required)
Asif Mujtaba hit a six off last ball v Aus (I think Steve Waugh) to tie the game
Both Rahul and Karthik will play in England ODI squad, which is the only thing that matters.
T20s are irrelevant. In that format, only IPL and WT20 matters.

Correction, IPL only matters for Indians.
It is shameful that Dhoni is still coming in the way of DK. DK is Mr Cool currently he can do no wrong, literally.
It is fault of the system. Selectors should drop Dhoni but they lack the courage and Dhoni is taking full advantage.
No player will drop himself. Noone at all.
Nayan Mongia was far better than DK.
P.patel is very underrated he should have played ahead of kartik in test.
Bhaijaan aapka yeh thread bhi gaya paani mein.![]()
Yes who knows he would have made the difference in the 1st test with some runs. He shuffles across the stumps to negate the movement, at least would have scored some runs till his stay! And Saha is a better keeper. If not these two they should have gone with Pant definitely!
Thats the downside of IPL, apart from giving recognition to legends, they reach to unprecedented levels of glorifying more than rubbish players as ATG. Last few months have been horrible to hear the arguments like, India found like for like replacement of Dhoni in DK.
Common man, even DK, don't have even 50% of that regards for himself. And many Indian fans, just believe what is thrown at them. Even Pakistan media, did not back Afridi, Shezhad and Umar Akmal collectively that much.
Other case is of Ishant Sharma, the ATG coach Ravi Shastri, etc.
People are too harsh on dinesh karhik. Give him few games in short formats and he will perform way better than dhoni does these days.
Hopefully this will be the end of Karthik's international career - he has played odis for almost 15 years and finished up with an incredible average of 30.20 and a gigantic strike rate of 73.
And to think he has played mostly as a specialist batsman in recent years lol.
Goodbye 'Mr Cool' please shut the door on your way out.
One biggest question which will remain for India from this WC should be "What would Shaw have done in place of Karthik in the SF game?"
Shaw currently has a Test average of 118 @ S/R 94. His FC avg is 61 @ S/R 79.
Karthik has a Test avg of 25 @ S/R 49. HIs FC is 41 @ S/R 59.
It doesn't take genius to figure out Shaw is a better batsman than Karthik. I think Kohli & Shastri made a major mistake here, probably over-confidence.
I am still bemused on why they dropped Iyer. He played some good knocks and is hard hitting batsman. Gill I think struggled in Newzealand and I believe he still needs to spend some time in domestics to iron out some chinks.Pathetic selection. Have no idea why he was selected. Iyer or Gill would have been a better selection. Or even another specialist seamer as India only had 3.
Should be the end for him even in T20s.
Shaw might be a better batsman than Kartik in Tests but nothing to prove in ODI yet. They should have experimented him in the last Australia ODI series. One biggest question which will remain for India from this WC should be "What would Shaw have done in place of Karthik in the SF game?"

It was against Windies attack on Indian pattas. I wont read much into that. I was actually waiting to see him bat in England or Australia as I feel he has some chinks in technique. He bats more like Sehwag without much feet movement and could be another FTB like him. But we will find out soon.If you look at his S/Rs, it seems he has the strokeplay. I hope we find out sooner than later.
lol at struggle in 2 games, out of which 1 game where everyone else failed. Even the great Tendulkar scored 3 blobs up front in what was the greatest ever ODI career.Gill I think struggled in Newzealand and I believe he still needs to spend some time in domestics to iron out some chinks.
Dude, I am a casual fan and that is my observation. I am pretty sure our selectors who have played enough first class cricket knows how to spot a good batsman.lol at struggle in 2 games, out of which 1 game where everyone else failed. No wonder with thought process like this we're shot as far our chances in world tourneys are concerned.
That's the problem. They don't know whom to back and whom not to!I am pretty sure our selectors who have played enough first class cricket knows how to spot a good batsman.

Which none of Shankar, Rayudu or Pant were.India probably wanted someone more experienced at 4.
Even Malik was better than this nalaikThe two mysterys of cricket :-
How have shoaib malik and dinesh karthik played international cricket for so long ?!!!

Seems to have done a runner from his KKR captaincy!

Kolkata Knight Riders will see a change of guard as the management revealed that current captain Dinesh Karthik has opted to hand over captaincy of the franchise to Eoin Morgan.
“Dinesh Karthik has informed the KKR management that with a view to focusing on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, he wished to handover the captaincy to Eoin Morgan,” KKR said in a statement.

Why did he step aside as skipper?
Dinesh is in red hot form, will India select him for the T20WC? I personally think he deserves a chance and this could be his last attempt as he's almost 37. Maybe there's room for both Pant and him in an XI
