What's new

Do you pray?

Salam bro and thanks for the input. I read Witr is Wajib and a must. Thats why I am a bit confused

These terms like wajib , sunnah e Muakkadah , ghayr Muakaddah etc are all fiqh terms , developed by scholars , not by prophet.

The main thing is that in Islam there are obligatory thing , and non obligatory thing. If you do non obligatory you will be rewarded .

Those who say witr or sunnah is wajib , ask them why they do not fast on Mondays and thursdays ? That is not regular sunnah of the prophet ?

A old , retired person can sit in the masjid whole day and pray . If you pray your 5 prayers , and then work hard and earn money in right way for your family , the reward will be much higher than a person sitting whole day and praying.

Always remember Allah swt does not require worship , Allah swt is worthy of worship.

There is a hadeeth also where prophet says that a person who prays 5 times , and keeps away from major sin , will insha Allah will enter paradise.

Jazzak Allah brother. May you be rewarded for taking the time to answer me.

This. Just keep it simple. Get used to doing the obligatory and the non obligatory becomes easy. Also I believe there is a hadith referring to people who wake up early to go to work for their family. Their waking up for work is an act of worship and if they complete their obligatory prayer at the same time, their waking up early is equal to tuhujjud. So just a little bit of motivation for those of you having to wake up very early for your family.

Allah swt has said in Quran , that he created men and Jinns to worship him only , worship does not mean that you will keep praying all day and night , it means to live according to will of Allah swt. If you put a morsel of food earned through hard work in mouths of your family , that is also act of worship. Try to do whatever is possible for you , but try to avoid haram things , that is more important.

Going through heartbreak and mental issues , so praying, not for problems to go away but for mental strength..

I owe an apology to everyone I was judgmental towards but i do realize faith can help in smaller doses..

Stay strong, these crumbs of comfort will prove invaluable when one gets to reflect later.

Staring into the fire can be life-affirming though, as it lays bare the trivial nature of our own judgment.

Thanks hoping for the same!

You need something to hang on to when you are down in Gutters. Praying definitely has a placebo effect.

It transforms your life
I started praying in 10th grade after some really wild years in my life...

and being praying since than most of the time it's five but sometimes I end up missing the day prayers so I combine tham

Heartbreak in romance - time for phupho ki beti, ask for arranged marriage :)) (If anything else I am looking highly insensitive but I am taking that risk)

Mental issue - Any religion for some reason humans need that trust in some kind of energy that's behind thme
Hard to replicate with anything else in life (Please don't turn it into an atheist debate just my feeling)

I had mental issues when living without family in a dorm after you hang out with friends and have fun you miss your family

Maybe you are alone? That also plays a part
Try to keep yourself occupied with social activities I have joined the obnoxious things to keep my mind occupied and busy - have to get creative if you are alone

I never miss Isha prayer. I perform it very late in the night, generally my last activity of the day. It gives me great peace and tranquility, more so than any other prayer.

Generally I perform 2-3 prayers a day, and all five on a good day once in a while.

3.5 years later, my frequency has dropped to 1 per weeks only, i.e. the Friday prayer.

A shame really.

3-4 per day always depending on sleep schedule. Occasionally I’ll get 5 but always tryna improve

From the Quranic reference, Asr is the most important daily prayers.
Perhaps you can start with focusing on this one, and see how it goes?

Asr is always the most challenging for me because I am either in the hospital or on the golf course.

I have always found Isha and Fajr the easiest, so I will try to start from there.

My mother and wife pray 5 times a day so I hope their influence rubs on me eventually.

JaDed is married bro. And love marriage at that!

Hope you come out successful against whatever troubles you're facing right now bro JaDed. This too shall pass.

I'm agnostic but I'm not one of those hardcore atheists who think religion is B S. I've always thought that even if all the religious stuff is nothing but a figment of our imagination, there's nothing wrong with believing in a fairy tale if that fairy tale gives you peace of mind. After all life is nothing but an experience and if belief in an all powerful superior entity makes you feel protected and gives you mental peace, I'm all for it. Problem arises only when things turn political and people get divided based on these fairy tales, fighting for supremacy over each other.

Everyday, in the morning and after sunset. Life has been good after I started praying. There was a time when I thought it was cool to declare oneself atheist.

How can a prayer work for a Muslim/Hindu/Christian? Who is answering those prayers?

I used to think like that, but once I started praying I found that I was more respectful towards life and less egoistical about myself. It may just be a coincidence, but I also found huge increase in my wealth. During my faithless days had to always ask others for money at the end of the month to pay off my debts, and now I donate to dharmic causes every month. Of course, just because it worked for me doesn't mean it will work for others. If atheism makes some people happy and fulfilled, that is ok too.

JaDed Don't read too much into my posts directed at CricketCartoons.

I'd suggest you staying off online discussions in times like these. It might seem like a good place to vent, but I feel it adds to your stress.

I used to be lazy and avoid Fair and read the 4. In more recent times,it's all 5. May Allah accept my prayers

Which God may I ask you prayed for? Do you think that God really exists?

I am neither a Theist nor an Atheist. I am a seeker. So wanted to find out which God you prayed to and what was the response. No trying to offend you.

It was a serious reply. You have to take your own path to find God. What or to whom I pray is of no value here. Actually I wrote, but discarded that paragraph as it is not the right place to talk about it. Want to discard this reply as well, but just want you to know that I wrote an answer but didn't feel it was worth it to post hit here.

Got it. Thanks.

Everyone prays to God at some point in their life inc Atheists. There will come a time a person is in a terrible situation they will ask for help from a higher power, which God or higher power will be different.

Prayed 5 times a day when I was Muslim. Quite common in religious Pakistani families in the UK, I find.

Obviously, I've had no reason to pray in years. Someone asserted that atheists pray when they're at the lowest point in their life. Perhaps some do, likely not out of belief, just in the odd chance that there is a supreme deity out there who hid themselves very well and gave humans no reason to believe. I wouldn't necessarily call that a 'win' for theism, however.

Praying is always good.

If you haven't tried it already, google "mindfulness" and check it out on YouTube or even better enrol in some online classes.

Technically speaking the middle prayer is Fair.. which I try to read daily but often miss... Usually read all the others, minimum

Sometimes I might travel to the Shamanic Upper World to ask advice of my tribal ancestors.

Or maybe that just means meditating and accessing my deep memory.

Yes, hope so.
Also, just notice the staff at hospital who manages to pray Asr. Could be your fellow collogues, auxiliary staff, kakaa, and also notice those one or two at golf club who take the time out and mange to pray Asr. Just notice them and appreciate it.

The reason is, when you look for good qualities into others and appreciate them, those qualities automatically come into you.
And the vice versa is also true. When someone looks for faults and short comings into others, those exact short comings make their way into his own life.

This is one the lessons of my life. I later found that that this is also mentioned in Hadeeth.

Also, remember, where there is a will, there is a way.

Hopefully, you will start just noticing and appreciating those around you, who try to pray Asr on time.

Having a prayer buddy or buddies also help.
Sometimes when you are lazy, they help you get up and offer prayers. Other times when they are lazy, you push them to get up and go for prayers.
