Do you see a day when both Afg and Bangladesh have players above Pakistan in ODI player rankings?

I think that day is coming very soon and it should be a matter of great concern for the PCB as that will also mean that the teams will overtake (Bangladesh already have) us in the team ranking also.

The inevitable reality. However, the travesty is that while it will happen eventually nonetheless, I feel the time is imminent. Pakistan has regressed while the world has progressed. Nepotism has ruined us.

Bangladesh already has players ranked above Pakistan in the bowling and all-rounder rankings. And also it is a joke that Babar Azam is ranked ahead of Tamim Iqbal in the batting rankings.

Shows that we are progressing slower than the teams that we have had a head start on. We are rolling backwards.

Afg yes given their systems' infancy but BD no. Talent is talent and with a half decent system the talent will show. NZ's population is 1/30th of Pak, would we be similarly concerned?

I can also see a day when Afghanistan as team would rank better than Pakistan, let alone the players.

And also most importantly the Bangladesh TEAM is ranked two places ahead of Pakistan which so many people on this forum seem to forget.

For Afghanistan to truly improve and become a strong test nation they need 5-6 teams in Indian Ranji trophy or their players need to play county cricket but I don't think that will happen so they can only hope to become a semi decent ODI side in best case scenario..

Afghanistan has still a long way to go.
Currently I don't see great talent except Rashid - and he is just a spinner.

Team is full of bits and pieces cricketers.

Afghanistan will be fairly competitive in Asia, but there is still a long long way to go before they can beat good teams consistently.

Next 20 years they might catch up.

Afghanistan has a long way to go I'm not sure how many good players they have going through. First step should be getting test status

Unless the domestic system is revamped pakistan cricket will fade away.

The same domestic structure has produced Hasan, Shadab, Babar, Sharjeel, Fakhar, Fahim and Imad in the last 2 years alone. It is a easy cop out to blame the domestic structure.

I think bigger culprit is the team selection and captaincy. Put players like Azhar, Hafeez and Shehzad even in India's team and watch how their performance plummet.

that's a lot of untested players you are using to validate the domestic system. ppl think revamp is massive changes. its not.
some of it is pretty simple:
- stop playing odi tournaments in the north of the country in winter
- dont select players basis aggregates, but rather consistency of strike rates through their innings.
- get some grass on the ground so that the point fielders start diving

The only "untested" players I listed were Fakhar and Fahim. The rest have all performed and earned their spots.

Agree with your other points.

Even babar isnt that good and fakhar is untested , ya selection is one of the problems but bigger problem is domestic system.

Good players are those who stand the test of time , we will see in a couple of years where these players stand. Damp pitches , poor balls and umpiring and overall poor fitness are what our domestic system is comprised of. We are on decline because of that reason.

Only in ODIs, the way BD fans crow on and on about rankings you'd think they're 50 points ahead of us. :))

No,Pak is getting back to the mid level range and within 2 years will be better than BD,individual players of any team can be ranked higher, the team won't though.

Just yesterday they were 7 and we were 8 with only 2 points difference. LOL one win against NZ and all of a sudden BD is world beater.

Already 2 BD pacers are above any PAK pacer, but that's nothing indicative. It's not about how many are above, it's rather how many are below. PAK can have 3 batsmen & bowlers in top 10, but is other 2 batsmen are MoHa, Azhar & other 2 bowlers are Wahab & Gul - PAK'll remain outside top 5 comfortably.

Why just Pakistan?

Its inevitable that one day (even if it takes many years) some Afghans and Bangladeshi players will be ranked above some Pakistanis, Indians or even Aussies

Tendulkar was a better ranked player than most Pakistani batsmen in the 90s despite playing for a weaker team.

Bangladesh is already a better ranked team and minnow teams can also have one or two exceptional cricketers.
