Does India have talent waiting in the wings for the 2023 World Cup?

Having actually grown up in India, unlike many who are posting about this, I can tell you that Indian ages are accurate. The age fudging thing doesn't happen except in rare cases and in those cases too it is detected by referring to birth and school records.

Is Shami really 28? Wow age effects different people differently I guess.

In India misrepresenting their age doesn't happen. May be actors and actresses. Not players. In school you have to give the right age. You have to produce certificates.

Probably not... anyway, it is not common. It appears Shami comes from a poorer background where the record keeping isn't that great. I was replying to a post which suggested it is the norm.

In four years time, the ages of the current 11 will be:

Rohit - 36
Rahul - 31
Kohli - 34
Karthik - 38
Pant - 25
Pandya - 29
Dhoni - 42
Jadeja - 34
Chahal - 32
Kumar - 33
Bumrah - 29

Clearly a very old team. Dhoni is likely to have retired, likewise Karthik. Rohit will still be there you would imagine but it's doubtful that he can keep this sort of form up in his late thirties.

So who is there to refresh this team?

The same thing was said on this forum when India lost the fab 04 in 2012 and the domestic structure has the capacity to churn out players at will..

At least it's going in the right direction. Pakistan in the 80s were a 4 man team, in the 90s were a 2 man team and today a 1 man team. Looking forward to the next youngsta beauties! :afridi

From my school-sports( volleyball and soccer)playing days in the late 90’s, I remember age-fudging among athletes from North Indian states. Most the of players looked way over their official age. But its very rare in South India and especially in states like Kerala where it is nearly impossible to fudge your birth certificate and coaches at youth level are very strict against that.

Incoming players are

Gill(sure)
Shaw(sure)
Pant
Agarwal
Hanuma vihari(can bowl) maybe ?
Ishan kishan is a middle order slogger type substitute for pant.

Very young - abhishek sharma(18),riyan parag(17)
Krunal pandya and washington sundar can be good spinning allrounders in 2023.
Rahul chahar is the next good leg spinner with shreyas gopal next in the pecking order.Chahar can replace chahal if necessary.

Mavi, saini, nagarkoti, avesh, rajpoot are fast bowling prospects. If khaleel builds muscle maybe.Good thing is saini ,rajpoot, avesh are all tall and good pace 140 plus.

Riyan Parag too.May not have best of technique but he showed great composure in taking RR home in a tense game.Plus he can bowl handy economical legspin. He's the perfect guy for that no 5/6 slot we need.Just needs to develop his power game and he will be GOLD for the Indian team

Why do Indian fans take T20 performances and extrapolate that to ODIs which is a completely different format. Remember, Granpa Dhoni is still a force in IPL and was blasting bowlers all over the park. The T20 West Indian champs are pretty poor in ODI. Both require completely different skill sets and temperament.
Let him do something in List-A and ODIs in A tours and then we can hype him up.

Shaw
Gill
Pant
Mavi
to name a few
4 years of IPL and a few more are certain to come
World cricket in safe hands.
