Does Islamabad really need Misbah-ul-Haq the captain or the player?

With Very impressive captaincy and bowling by Ruman Raees, he can easily Cary on as captain and IU don’t have to carry the liability of an aged Misbah. To accommodate Misbag , they have to omit a youngster like Sahibzada , not good.

If they drop Asif Ali to play misbah that’s fine, but most likely farhan will get the axe

No they don't. They seem a well gelled unit and Raees has been good enough.

The OP has to get his daily dose of Misbah bashing like a patient on antibiotics.

Is probably Misbah's last PSL anyway. Let him have his farewell.

Hopefully he replaces Asif Ali instead of young Sahibzada.

I'm just glad Talat had an excellent knock... otherwise he was the ideal candidate to be replaced by Misbah. No space for a young, stylish aggressive batsman in Misbah's eleven. You never know Talat might still be dropped. This is the same Misbah who dropped Pakistan's best batsman, Babar Azam, after two failures in the first PSL.

Like Sharjeel Khan in PSL1 ?

If I recall I think Babar got injured early on in the first PSL. I may be wrong though.

if not Talat than Farhan may be the one to go - there's no winner here

Babar azam was injured, that's why he didn't play any games after the first two matches.

Yes, Babar is the leading all time scorer is PSL. He has single handedly won Karachi the PSL. How could Misbah drop such a batsman?

IU don't need Misbah, he'll be a passenger in the team.

Maybe QG would sign him next season, as they like signing passengers to play the game in Hard mode.

On regards of the thread, it hurts to say but Raees has been a great captain so I'd like to keep it as is. If Asif Ali is to be dropped which should happen sooner than later, I would pick up Butt.

Why does it matter in pyjama cricket? It’s just another pass time league.

you do know that hussain talat got selected because of Misbah. He was regular in the faislabad team and misbah got him here. Same case for Sahibzada Farhan

Also people saying that misbah is old and all, go check Sangakara or maliks age.

Thing is you guys just need an excuse to hate this guy

WIth Misbah returning, Islamabad will have a middle order batsmen to rely upon.

Even today, they made a mess of a simple run chase.

The guy knows how to tackle spinners. he knows how to mess with their line and length.

While Misbah needs to return back, the ISLU management also needs to deal with faheem ashraf and andre russel. You cannot play them both. Pick 1.

its funny how people like OP have problems with Misbah in a freaken domestic t20 match.

yet no comments on Malik, Afridi and other aged cricketers.

All the players you've mentioned are younger than Misbah.

Anyway, the age isn't as much of an issue as performances. His recent performances don't suggest he's likely to do too well in PSL. Let's see.

Misbah is still one of the best hitter of the spinners which are by far the most common in PSL. So yes he'll be needed. IU made a mess in the first game and almost folded against Tahir and Malik today, if it wasn't for some lucky escapes. Husain undoubtedly played brilliantly and should be promoted to no. 4 probably. Misbah can play at 5.

Rumman has been pretty good as captain but don't know how he will under pressure as tournament goes on. 2 matches are too little a sample size to judge a captain, but yes he's led well uptill now.

afridi`s rael age is close to 45 :) and sangas is 40

exactly.
Playing the spinners in UAE is what is needed here.

but islamabads main problem is andre russell and faheem ashraf. You can only play 1 not both

IU need some stability in their middle order as their batting faltered in both matches, Misbah should replace Asif in the middle order (#4). Sahibzada needs to play in any case.

same misbah played amad butt. Same misbah played RUmman Raees. Same Misbah played Shadab Khan
same misbah played SHarjeel Khan. Same Misbah played Khalid latif. Same misbah played Hussain Talat.

so what are you even on about

Hosla rakho... don't get your knickers in a twist... he might be your hero doesn't mean he is immune to being criticized.

Agreed with every single word.

Misbah has done a good job with the young players in the PSL, and based on their batting performance so far, I think they can do with him for one more season. He is almost certainly retiring after this season.

He should have atleast given up captaincy by now like afridi...
If he's only playing as a player one can "rest" him in a few matches

How do you know there are 3-4 years not hidden in Misbah’s certificate? He started FC career at around official 23, with an MBA, sometimes in 1998 or so. Guy is officially almost 44, Afridi 38 - keep it that way.

Coming to the topic, Misbah’s best role could be director operations or national team manager - that’ll keep him away from coach or selector’s role.

So far Raees is doing good captaincy & I think it would be good for united to play without Misbah because he won't be available for a long time period. Although Misbah can be there as a mentor.

WE need to groom captains also at domestic level, not just batsmen and bowlers. Let players like Raees and Amad develop their captaincy skill in PSL, keep Misbah away from the team.

No player is bigger than the country or the team. We already wasted NZL , Australia series to give MIsbah a farewell and once that turned out to be a disastrous move, we gave him an easy series in WI to give him a better farewell. Now you want to lose another IU season just to give Misbah a farewell ? Whats next, a national holiday on his name ?

Nope but he will play so no point pondering over it...

I just hope it’s not Talat who gets the axe when he comes into the team.

Impossible after today. Plus, he's in the emerging category so extremely unlikely he will be dropped.

Pretty unfair that he's emerging tbh, he's far above that level.

IU has too many all rounders and seamers in the playing xi. Misbah can easily be slotted in for one of them

Not if he doesn't make any runs.

Duminy should be joining the team relatively soon now that the India series is over so I assume he will get a middle-order spot.

Then it will probably be at the expense of Sahibzada...

And one failure from Talat might mean he might get the axe just like last time.

Talat might get the backing of Mickey and Co. so he should be safe. I do hope Asif Ali is dropped from the 11 and Ronchi is dropped down the order. This way, Farhan will be opening and Islu will have a more dynamic line up.

He's really not needed. If he had a bit of shame, He would have retired by now and joined the team in some other capacity but easy money I guess. I expect Sahibzada Farhan to get dropped even though he didn't look impressive yesterday.

I think it is better for Misbah to join the coaching staff now. He should not be playing any competitive cricket, domestic or international.

I really want to see United stick with Raees as captain. It is great to see young Pakistanis being given captaincy, even with more senior players in the time. I would love to see Lahore, Multan, and Peshawar follow suit. We really need to groom some young captains for the future.

The thing is Misbah has been a dud with the bat for a while now. Misbah of 2 years back might have been useful to some extent but the way he has been playing in recent times he will simply be a burden.

Plus it was good to see a fast bowler as captain.
