The PSL has catapulted several new players into the limelight. Do we now have squad depth to play 2 teams at Test and ODI level?

Tests :

Main Player and Reserve Player

Sami ---- Shezad
Azhar ---- Fakhar
Haris ---- Amin
Babar ---- Salauddin
Asad ---- Fawad
Sarfraz ---- Rizwan Keeper
Faheem ---- Hafeez All-rounder
Shadab ---- Yasir Main spinner (Asghar, Mir)
Amir --- Wahab (Raees)
Hasan --- Junaid
Abbas --- Adil

ODIS

Fakhar ---- Shezad!!
Sharjeel ---- Sahibzada
Haris ---- Azhar
Babar ---- Amin/Shakeel
U Akmal!! ---- Fawad
Sarfraz ---- Rizwan Keeper
Faheem ---- Hafeez/Malik All-rounder
Shadab ---- Asghar/Mir Main spinner
Amir ---- Wahab
Hasan ---- Mudassar
Junaid ---- Rumaan

What would be really exciting is the emergence of 2 or 3 new players in the next PSL Insha-Allah. Shaheen, etc. The PSL has made a HIUGE difference to the Pakistan team in just 2 years. Let's hope the 3rd version produces more stars.

please don't use word 'depth' next to shezzy or ukmal.

they are yesterday's joke, not tomorrow's reserve

yes, with the exception of specialist spinners for odis.

these players, if available, should currently be automatic picks:

odi batting, not necessarily in this order: fakhar, sharjeel, sahibzada, babar, sarfraz, haris

backup: aslam (is young and batting at good SR in LA cricket now), azhar, amin, saudel (talat's form has been awful)

i think this could actually become the best ODI batting lineup pakistan has ever fielded. and it could be around for a decade.

it is hard on azhar to pick him as backup, but if one is to be serious about modernizing pakistani odi cricket, the top three are indispensable, and azhar is not to be preferred to them even on the grounds of tenacity. they have all demonstrated extraordinary consistency, unlike azhar scoring both quickly and regularly

allrounders: shadab, imad, faheem, yamin, ghulam

bowling: hasan, amir, junaid (will for now play as third automatic choice but i think he will be replaceable)

backup: raees, sadaf, asghar, who else? this is where there is a gap, if any...

No.

Only time in my life that I can remember a team having that depth was Australia in the first half of the last decade.

I don't get why the PSL is getting all the praise though. If the players are any good they already existed in the past.

a) It exposes the players to pressure situations in front of crowds

b) It brings to the limelight players who wouldnt have itherwise

a) It exposes the players to pressure situations in front of crowds

b) It brings to the limelight players who wouldn't have otherwise

c) International stars lift the standard of cricket being played.

d) Exposure to international stars who will pass on their experience/give confidence to the young domestic players

a lot of players you list are either unproven (Mudassar, Asghar, Amin, Shakeel, Sahibzada) or incompetent (Shehzad, Akmal, Rizwan, Wahab) and are hence not in the team.

I wouldn't call that depth

by those standards, Pakistan have always had depth

The players are exposed to the limelight and pressure.

It's one thing to do well in empty grounds and another to deliver in front of thousands in the crowd and millions around the world.

PSL has played its role.

Plus, you're doing all of this with international players in the mix.
