Does the ICC miss a trick by not having a third-place match in the World Cup?

I've never understood why the ICC has never had a 3rd place match in the World Cup, I mean it'd be an extra match, between 2 big teams, and there is still context for the game. It would just make them more money and give fans an extra match.

Thoughts?:ds

I don't think there needs to be a 3rd place match. However, on another note I do like the PSL3 format, whereby giving the loser of the first semi (between 1 and 2 on the table) a second chance you try your best to ensure the best 2 teams play the final.

Problem is, in football it’s viewed as a complete joke match.

What exactly would be that context for fans? I mean bottom line is they both are knocked out and it doesn’t matter to us fans if they finish #3 or #4. It wouldnt change one bit and that is team wouldnt win a cup.
Complete meaningless and im glad ICC dont really follow that.

True.

Ive watched World Cups for last 20 years and never have ever watched a 3rd place playoff.

No one would watch it in cricket either.

Nope.

Complete waste of time.

No one watches and honestly what's the point? No one says, "remember when we came in 3rd?" when talking about a tournament.

The only time it makes sense is in the Olympics where a bronze medal is on the line.

It's pointless. Losing a semi final is very demoralizing and the last thing the players wanna do after is play for third place.

I think it's absolutely wonderful we have no 3rd place pointless waste of time buffer match. One of the few good consistencies in ICC event structures

In football 3rd place deciding match attracts nobody.I haven't seen any of these matches personally so far,it is of no interest to me.i am not sure whether it will worthy or not in case of cricket WC.

Pretty sure in football the only reason it even exists is due to prize money being different for third and fourth teams.

Nobody really cares. Most people who watch do so out of some morbid curiosity.

Also, considering this is cricket, it'd be a fixers dream. Any poor performance can just be blamed on lack of motivation or fatigue.
