Just saw this right now. The graphics look exactly same as the DBC 14, the commentary sounds kinda lame. This is still an indie game and can't expect to be like the NBA 2k17. What is your opinion of this game ?

I will give it a pass since it will have always online requirement.

The worst part about cricket games is how the batsman is completely still right up to the point where he has to play shot. Then all of a sudden, the statuesque batsmen gets into the exact position to play the shot.

This shouldn't be too hard to address, but hasn't yet been. These games in 2016 are the same as good old Brian Lara Cricket in the 1990s.

Very good point, the animations of the batsmen in Ashes 97 game were the best, I guess, and that game was released almost 20 years ago, lol, it was ahead of the time, I hope some people develop a cricket game on that model.

This is all we can hope for, the cricket video game market is very small. Despite the large sub continent population, people can't afford to dish 4000 rupees on a video game. Besides, why buy when you can pirate ? In Australia is probably the only hope for cricket game developers, the English and Kiwi farmers ain't got time to play video game when they got cows to milk. Probably few hundred people in North America like me will buy it for the hell of it. If we all buy cricket games rather than pirate, then we can expect developers to invest in more time and effort. I'm pretty disappointed with graphics and same damn animations, but oh well.

So irritating how there hasn't been a single really decent cricket game released in all these years.

Look how far the likes of FIFA and Need For Speed have come, yet all the cricket games seem to be made using 90s technology by some nerd in a basement.

The gaming experience is so dull and unrealistic compared to how enjoyable actually playing cricket is.
Meanwhile, games like FIFA are far more realistic and provide moments where you have to marvel at the brilliance of your own play. :ronaldo

Play real cricket 2016 on your phone instead, much better game.

Slightly disappointed to be honest, they had more than 2 years to improve the lacking and clunky gameplay from the last edition, but after all this time it just looks like a DBC14 copy slapped with a new name.

However will still be buying it as it is the only cricket game available on the market.

Career Mode looks decent

The game has a create a stadium feature as well which is cool, but the graphics look so poor. It looks worse than 14, hopefully it will be better when the game is out.

Come on India, use your one billion plus population to intice a good developer to make a good cricket game.

Cricket games like all sports game becoming boring very quickly. RTS games I could play for 10 years and not get bored, but cricket and football games I deleted after 2 hours.

Gadgets 360 gave the game a 6/10.

Pros

Advanced bowling controls
Challenging batting
Variety of game modes

Cons

Fielding
Graphics
Bugs
Frame rate drops

If I had a PS4, I'd rather buy used BF1 and Mafia3/Watch Dogs 2 and enjoy my long holidays/jobless weeks. I really think Indy games like these should only cost $30. You have more chance of people actually buying these games. In subcontinent, $100 is a lot of money, even for us in the West, it is way too much for a video game. CEO of the BigAnts also doesn't take non-constructive criticism too well, calling posters "Idiots" "morons" and so many other name when it is not even their forum. I may buy this game down the road when they fix it up, but as of right now, it doesn't make a good impression on me and the graphics are downgrades, not worth wasting my $100.

It costs about $70 in the UK for PS4 and DB14 is going for about $30, they are expensive because the PC version will get pirated so when they shift a small amount of units the return may just about give Big Ant a profit. It's the strategy they've gone with as an indie developer, obviously the other would be a bit risky; low in cost but if you don't shift enough units you may not even break even. Appreciate their effort but their product doesn't justify the cost unfortunately and I can't get past the graphics, BF1 is AMAZING! you should buy that instead.

I won't be buying DB17 or DB14, hopefully on the playstation store some old school Brian Lara classics become available wouldn't mind them

This happened to me yesterday:

In terms of implementing the many complex technical variations of the sport, Big Ant have done a reasonable job under their very limited budget. For me, it has the most advanced gameplay mechanics of any Cricket game to date. It's important to note however, that DBC is not and perhaps never will be a representation of the world stage. Big Ant have minimal licensing privileges and are strongly inclined to narrowing their focus towards producing a unique and creative gaming experience. Being an independent developer, Big Ant deserve more praise than criticism, for providing and encouraging its gamers a platform to create custom content.

Of course, the gameplay is far from perfect. But the discussion should be contextualised and understood in a manner which does justice to what DBC is. It was made because this market is now only a niche. They produced when no one else was willing to produce. Criticism should be based on the aspects that Big Ant are aiming to do well with the game. If we sit here talking about the lacklustre graphics, commentators, animations, licensing, stadium art and whatnot, we're just barking up the wrong trees.

Having said all that, I believe that as an independent game created for a niche market, they should adopt a "fairer" (or potentially smarter) pricing strategy. I believe they shouldn't charge regular retail prices that are just the same as any other AAA sports game in the market. But then, I'm not exactly in the know about their financial outlook, so perhaps there may be a good reason for the pricing.

Hopefully one day we will have genuine and smart investment in Cricket video games in the future.

Have you played DBC 14? How is DBC 17 different from DBC 14 in terms of graphics and gameplay? I am thinking of buying it during the christmas holidays but the $60 price tag is putting me off.

If you have Don Bradman 14 then don't get DBC 17. Batting is virtually identical and bowling isn't that much better.

Wait for it to be heavily discounted. I've just run into a bug in career mode where I got called up by Warwickshire but every time I try and play my first game for them the game crashes. Every. Single. Time.

I'm gonna contact Microsoft and get a refund because this is unacceptable for a full price game.

Why the hell not? if customers are not pleased with their experience they have every right to criticise and also blacklist a garbage product and let our friends know of that so they don't need to waste their hard earned cash.

I don't care if you're an independent developer or if Big Ant have a limited budget blah blah, if you throw crap at a wall then we will call it just that!

Oh.. millions will download. But thousands will pay :)) So no developer is going to invest in anything more than a mobile game.

Agreed. I don't really care about graphics though, the gameplay and realism of the game matter more to me, but even that has a lacklustre upgrade from DBC14 (which is very fun to play imo).

I don't think that games like BF1 are worth it though, the premium's are the biggest ripoffs I've ever seen, you can't even play as the French army for example, without getting it. The premium in the UK is as expensive as the full game, I'm fed up of developers selling unfinshed games these days due to "DLC" which should be in the main game.

In Canada its $90+Tax(13%)= $101

Oh ok, forgot you were in Canada, I used US dollars there. My bad.

Sorry I'm actually just posting about the Don Bradman Cricket video game series in general. I haven't played the new release yet. From the videos I've seen, it doesn't look too particularly improved. I'm happy to wait for a discount as I bought DBC (14) for PS4 just earlier this year.

I never said you couldn't. What I said was, by doing so you're barking up the wrong tree. You're complaining about something that was never going to be there at this moment in time. No one has been willing to invest in a serious video game for this sport other than this tiny company. It's perfectly okay to call the game garbage, but you should also realise that this is all we're going to get. Their budget was never going to be enough to seriously prioritise anything other than core gameplay and mode design. We just have to understand that it's not a marketable project for any game developer right now. It certainly doesn't help that core target markets are creating minimal revenue by taking the illegal download route for example. It's rather surprising that we have any Cricket video game at all right now.

I get it, Cricket is a niche market, but they sold everyone a broken game. The game doesn't even have a cover drive. Sick of developers selling us broken games thinking that we'll be fine with them long as they fix it over time, after its release. I don't care about the graphics looking outdated but surely DBC 17 shouldn't look worse than DBC 14 and same goes with commentary. Trailer was poor and they didn't even update anything on their site till couple of days and it still looks poor. I don't care about license because I know the community will take care of that and I actually admire the stadium creator. But come on, whats the point when you can't play the damn game properly ?

"Season passes" in games are the worst. People should stop buying them and developers will stop offering them. Watch Dogs 2 had a DLC trailer even prior to the game. Tired of devs asking us to pay large some for 2-3 maps. Stupid 13 and 14 year olds are to be blame for this.

I absolutely agree. My post was actually just about the DBC series in general (sorry for not pointing this out while writing). I haven't played DBC 17 yet myself. I have watched YouTube videos of it though. Your criticisms are clearly crucial criticisms, as they highlight the failures in which this game was actually created for. Other criticisms regarding graphics, licensing and commentary are futile with this title. Those aspects were never promised under the limitations. They never had the ability or viability to make it ideal in the first place - the whole project is one big compromise. Failing in their core gameplay and modes is what is truly damning. The rest is a fault of gamer expectations.

Hey guys, I want to finally try out the Don Bradman 14 game. Is it worth buying?

This is sad. I thought going into next gen they would make massive strides in terms of graphics and gameplay. Seems like this is not the case..
They have never put DBC on discount. Don't think DBC 14 was ever on a discount.

Thivagar, do you own the game and actually have played it or you are basing of your views on watching youtube videos? Because youtube videos can never accurately tell you about the graphics of the game and from what i have seen, the game does have a cover drive. Even DBC 14 had it.

Well Well, with the blunder EA did with Ashes game was very disappointing at that point of time DBC 14 was the best game ever marketed in regards to cricket.

I have played DBC 14, to be honest it is worth the money. A very well developed game, We can't compare cricket games to the likes of Fifa 17 , No developer is going to invest this much of a money as the target market is very small.

I am planning to buy the 17 , would like to know the reviews of people who have already got their hands on it.

Is it Worth the upgrade from DBC 14 to 17??

Yeah, if DBC 17 isn't a big upgrade on its predecessor, I'll just stick with the original. I have to know, is bowling any fun in this game or is a chore like it is in every cricket game ever made?

No, put that money towards battlefield 1 instead you wont regret it. These half baked cricket games do not deserve our support.

Yeah but when the game costs as much as Fifa 17 etc then the comparisons are justified because you expect a high end product on the same level given how much you're spending

EA never made the Ashes cricket series. It was made by codemasters.

Shaz, i think the volume is an issue here. Cricket is not as popular a sport like Fifa and most of the people in sub continent pirate games. So, they needed to price it at AAA level to get the max they can.

I found the bowling in DBC 14 quite fun, I was a part-time spinner and it was always great because you would randomly get the ball from time to time, and I suprisingly did quite well and was very tight, managed to get a wicket every other over.
Big Mac what are your thoughts on the bowling?

I only really played career mode as a leggie so I can't comment on the fast bowling but I'm enjoying the spin bowling less than I did in 14. They've given you the ability to vary the flight and bounce of your deliveries and given you a tiny bit more control over the length but as a result the bowling is more fiddly and each delivery takes a tiny bit longer than previously.

The biggest crime though?

I can't bowl a flipper. A cricket game developed by a studio headquartered in Melbourne, the home of Shane Warne, doesn't let you bowl a flipper.

Yeah, lol. With that $60 I could get Far Cry 4, Skyrim and Red Dead Redemption. All games that I have yet to play.

That sounds cool. How was it when you were controlling all the players in a team and had to bowl every over?

That's ridiculous. For me DLC is a way to support the game and add fresh content maybe 6 months to a year after release, but to plan it before the release of the game and have a trailer out for it is criminal. The worst part about this is that all companies these days get a way with it and customers don't really care, despite most of the time getting a half baked game.

I did a test match series between Pakistan and Australia, and I have to say, you do need a lot of patience with the bowling. It was strange as I always got the batsmen out LBW with the fast bowlers, the ball always hitting the batsmen on the foot.

I think it was because I was bowling full for most of it, but that's because the short balls in this game almost always get pulled away for 4 in my experience. The off-spinners are much more difficult to use for me, compared to the leggies. But I'm not sure if others had the same situation.

The fielding is generally good but the run-outs can be a little dodgy. Once, I was running back for the second, and dived a bit too early, so my batsmen decided to stand up with the bat outside of the line and the wicketkeeper started celebrating as the balls hit the stumps. Was really confused after that. :))

LOL! :)) Don't tell me the batsman was Misbah.

Just got my refund from Microsoft so my short nightmare with this game is over. Will stick with Bradman 14 on the 360 for my cricket fix and hopefully they can patch out all the issues

That's good you got your refund, can't believe that the game is actually somehow worse/more broken than the previous one.

DB14 still costs £25 here in the UK lol if it comes down to a tenner maybe I'll get it

Obviously because the pricing decision comes from the developer and its very much justifiable.

Don't we all :)) that has been the story of me career for HCC, get the call and then me knees crash into the ball ending me season

Obviously because the pricing decision comes from the developer and its very much justifiable.

They can try to justify it how they want, at the end of the day the product in the store is being sold to the customer who is not getting their value for money

Fair enough if you dont want to. I have to ask though. Have you played DBC 17 because i am intending to buy it as well and you have been very critical of it? Would like to know your views if you have played it?

I can't get past the god awful graphics, crappy animations and the large amount of £££ I have to pay for it, the purpose of the trailer was to sell the game to me and sadly Big Ant failed to do that

I reckon it's because the current generation of consoles aren't powerful enough to display the majesty of Edgbaston and the Eric Hollies Stand.

Hopefully technology will have advanced enough by the time we get to the Playstation 8 for me to be able to play for Warwickshire.

Youtube is not a good representative of a game's graphics although i agree that animations are very limited.

They speak english in this way.

It gives me a good enough visual of the graphics quality to expect from a game, the animations are obviously a bigger let down given that they belittle the strides made in the gameplay. DB14 was a good effort and I might be buying it when it gets cheaper. I guess the folk who are made out of money won't have a problem spending £50 for DB17, GTA V didn't even cost that much when it came out nor will the upcoming Gran Turismo Sport or any of the high profile sports games. Maybe £50 would be worth it if the game ticked all the box's

DB14 was very good, I'm probably going to continue my career and see if I can get a call-up to the national team.

The problem I had is that even though I was basically in the top 3 batsmen for FC cricket and 2020 (not very good in List A matches for some reason :shafiq), I decided to debut at 16, so selectors won't call me up even in my second season after consistent performances.

Hoping from someone who has actually played the game to give his views. All i have been hearing are youtube videos watched "reviews".

Thivagar, do you own the game and actually have played it or you are basing of your views on watching youtube videos? Because youtube videos can never accurately tell you about the graphics of the game and from what i have seen, the game does have a cover drive. Even DBC 14 had it.

From watching the youtube videos and after reading posts after posts about people complaining. LOL just watch Youtube clips of both of the gameplays and you'll know. Not buying a game that costs $100 and that is broken with tons of people complaining. I have a soft corner for indie developers and but this is too much for its worth. I'll think about it when it is all patched up and playable like it should have been for the release.

Exactly what I said.

Exactly that guy comes across as a big ant stooge I mean why do people even create gameplay videos, release pictures and trailers then LOOL the whole point of them is to give you an idea of the game and so do user reviews, who will download the game or buy it to see how the game is only to find that they have wasted their money :))) yeah sure go for the digital much cheaper and non refundable :yk cheaper by how much % ? :yk

See the post above. CEO of the company was abusing everyone on the forum that gave negative opinion about the game and started deleting Facebook comments soon after the trailer release. Trailer sucked, promotion sucked, commentary is horrible from the gameplays I've seen and everything visually sucks Even the shots look like downgrades, but apparently they have dilscoop and helicopter shots ". I admire their implementation of stadium creator, community creation and so on. At the end of the day, if game is bad, which is at the moment, people are going to complain. Why would people care about the developer being indie and how hard they worked ? Manual labourers in sub continent work the hardest. their life will continue to be poor anyway. We don't care about the feelings of the developer or their hard work, I want what I paid for. Games with no license should not cost the same as games with license or at least should be equally good as those. PES was good so it made up for it. Anyway, no one is forcing me to buy the game and as of now, I will not buy this game as of yet.

Totally agree with you mate, pathetic attitude from the developer with his false sense of entitlement; he and his fans go on like the customers should feel privileged  You have DB14 right I'd just play that, besides like you say their game is rubbish anyway even if it was good I'd be questioning the £50 price tag which is ridiculous and you've to pay even more then that. Get Battlefield 1 instead for your ps4, awesome awesome game I just bought the console recently and man that game is heavenly

I played DB14 on my PC with PS3 controller. Recently I accidentally threw my PS3 controller charger witch I was using to connect to the PC. I haven't played PS3 in like a year, so just waiting before I can afford a ps4 pro without doing too much damage to my wallet. BF1, NBA 2k17 and Mafia3/WatchDogs 2 are on my watchlist in that particular order.

I'm always an engineer, I like blowing up stuff and creating havoc. :kohli

I agree on the CEO part btw. That guy is a real douche bag and has this false sense of entitlement. They made this cricket game for mobile "Big Bash something". Total garbage and the game is broke because i could swipe up to every ball and it went for a six. Guess what, on one certain cricket gaming forum, the same game was being praised to the sky.

I was very excited with DBC 14 but this one is just crap not buying it anytime soon.

Big Ant studio have a strange arrogant attitude towards a crappy game actually no matter how many stadium or player creators they will create and launch them before the launch of game it will not help.

DB14 still costs £25 here in the UK lol if it comes down to a tenner maybe I'll get it

Buy it!

I got it way back when it was released - best cricket game out there in my opinion.

Better than Brian Lara and ICC Cricket where you can just stand and hit every ball for 6.

I wanna get DBC 2k17 but will need to get a PS4 or XBox 1 first :(

May get the PC version once its released...

*EDIT*

....just read the posts in this thread.

May just stick with DBC 14 :yk

Cricket in PS VR would be unreal. Danger ball shows that there is potential.

Agreed, I bought the game at a high price and I was skeptical about how good it would be, but it turned out great and actually felt like someone who cared made a cricket game for once. The licenses didn't really matter because you could download all the names, logos, stadiums etc, to make it more realistic.

About DBC17 I'd just wait till the creators actually realise that the game won't sell being a glitchy mess and that they need to give us a massive patch (as much as I hate downloading them, they're definitely worth it in the end) to fix it up. The worst part is, not only is the game bad, it's basically unplayable when you play career mode and can't advance without crashing the game.

Only problem with VR games is that they're always so simple and have no real depth, so it gets boring after a while and you move on to the next simulator. That's why I don't think that it will be that fun, as personally I prefer more in depth games rather than games you could basically port over to a phone with ease.
