US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick on Friday asked India to bring down its ‘high tariffs’ as Washington aims to pursue ‘something grand’

US President Donald Trump on Friday said that India has agreed to cut tariffs significantly because he is finally exposing New Delhi for imposing ‘massive tariffs’ on American imports.

“India charges us massive tariffs. Massive. You can't even sell anything in India. They have agreed, by the way; they want to cut their tariffs way down now because somebody is finally exposing them for what they have done,” ANI quoted Trump as saying.

This is the third time in as many days that Trump has remarked about India’s tariffs. His comments come when India's Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in Washington for trade talks with his US counterpart Howard Lutnick.

MEA says US deal can ‘boost trade’

The ministry of external affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Saturday that the planned Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the US can potentially boost bilateral trade between the two countries.

“The two governments are in the process of advancing discussions on a multi-sector Bilateral Trade Agreement. Through the BTA, our objective is to strengthen and deepen India-US two-way trade in the goods and services sector, increase market access, reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers, and deepen supply chain integration between the two countries,” said Jaiswal.

Agriculture ‘has to open up’

Earlier on Saturday, Lutnick claimed that India's tariffs on American products are among the highest globally and urged New Delhi to reconsider its position, noting that the two countries share a “special” bilateral relationship.

Speaking virtually at the India Today Conclave, the commerce secretary stressed the need for India to open up its agricultural trade for imports and suggested that it can be “smarter” while dealing with the most "important trading partner" US on the other side of the table.

“The good thing is your government truly understands your market, and we understand ours. And the key is to try to find that place. So yes, the Indian market for agriculture, it has to open up,” Lutnick said.

Trump always does this to other nations, and India is no different...atleast other nations retaliate

In the long run it will be good for India. The farm bill which led to the massive protests were about agriculture to open up to free market. This will be a external push and Indian consumers will benefit :)

Trump helping his buddy Modi's agenda. :hamster:

@Technics 1210 he called it a dead economy :ROFLMAO:

Something you have told us for a while.
Indeed. The only sign one needed was the mass exodus of the cult from India, and this accelerated after the same cult voted Modi into power. Absolute marbles, but not when one accepts India is just one big lie.

No one, and I mean no one, leaves their upcoming global military economic supapuwa motherland for a job at the corner shop 1000s of miles away.

India has and always will be nothing but a cheap labour resource. Now that resource is dead with AI around the corner.

This is why why Indian is now begging for manufacturing, but Trump has put a damper in that pipe dream from the onset.

India cannot conquer IT, Cricket, let alone Kashmir, and this cult ridden nation has aspirations to conquer the world.

If three people share £10, at least everyone walks away with something meaningful. But when £20 is split between 20 people, no one really gets enough to make a difference. That’s a lot like how the Indian economy works, it might sound big in numbers, but when it trickles down to the people, there's barely anything left for the average person. It's all spread too thin to really help anyone.

People like @Rajdeep and @Devadwal will be jumping up and down shouting 4th largest economy but it really don't mean anything giving the size of their population

They have every right to be proud of their country whatever their progress is. We are honestly happy for them.

Unfortunately Indians have in recent times taken every opportunity to try and belittle Pakistan. Whether it's sports, politics or economy their whole arguments hinge on mocking Pakistan.

It is important to counter this mental illness.

The India myth is slowly but surely getting exposed at a global level. Their self-created image of an emerging superpower has been blown to pieces and Pakistan has played a major role.

Trump always does this to other nations, and India is no different...atleast other nations retaliate
By signing bad treaties
.handing over oil reserves
Letting drones kill their own citizens
Kill their VIP guests
Nominating for peace prize for killing Muslims...

Exactly how do they retaliate

This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Lets now factor:

Caste system - racial discrimination baked in. Dalits will be the first to testify their experiences when it comes to equal opportunities and jobs.

Materialism - My car is more powerful than yours; my house is bigger than yours; my wallet is bigger than yours, my wife is prettier than yours, blah blah.

Funneling - Indians with money do not invest in India, but invest abroad. This means India has a leaking economy, where the wealth and profits are not shared within India and its citizens, but invested in the motherland - Stockholm syndrome. The rich have no faith in 'Incredible India'.

Taxes - Most Indians don't know how to pronounce taxation let alone pay it! Taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilised society, but in India, there is a ancient civilisation, but there is no modern civility.

Entitlement - This is self explanatory. Baked in egoism and selfishness. A euphemism for begging bowl.

Hindutva - I mean, Judaism, Christianity, Islam have a bonafide legacy and influence on humanity. Hindutva? 5000 year head start and still playing catch-up.

In the west if you want to be rich you got to speculate to accumulate, in India, if you want to be rich, you got to be stingy.

Couple this with India's countrymen bailing 'Incredible India' and you do not have an economy, you have a myth.

I would liken it to the self created image of Babar and Rizwan as cricketing legends made by Pakistanis

Yes by losing all the war against India 🤡🤡:kp

Look at the beggars celebrating because someone imposed tarrifs on India China Russia Canada Australia and others ...some moron comparinf Islam with all the other forward thinking religions.

I would liken to the self-created image of Amir and Imad as mentally strong cricketers made by their 0 IQ fans.

That image went down quicker than Indian jets vs USA and India in the T20 WC

Pakistan Air Force destroyed Indian economy and image at a global stage let alone decimating the chooza fleet of Indian Air Force in its entirety. Choozay were grounded, now Indian economy and reputation is grounded :dw:misbah

But hey, modi got selfies with other world leaders at g7 summit!!! One of them was with the Italian PM!! 😮
