Donald Trump's 21-point plan to end Gaza war

Trump says he thinks Gaza hostages will be freed 'very soon'

President Donald Trump has said he thinks the hostages held in Gaza will start to be freed "very soon" as mediators are set to meet in Egypt on Monday for indirect peace talks between Hamas and Israel.

The talks come after Hamas agreed to some parts of a 20-point US peace plan, including releasing hostages and handing over Gaza governance to Palestinian technocrats, but is seeking negotiations on other issues.

The group's response did not mention the key demands of its disarmament and playing no future role in Gaza's governance.

When asked about flexibility, Trump told reporters "we don't need flexibility because everybody has pretty much agreed to it, but there will always be some changes".

Trump added that he had heard negotiations were "going very well".

"It's a great deal for Israel, it's a great deal for the entire Arab world, Muslim world, and world, so we're very happy about it."

Meanwhile, Israeli air strikes continued in Gaza, despite Trump telling Israel to "immediately stop the bombing" on Friday after Hamas responded to the proposed plan.

Israeli government spokesperson Shosh Bedrosian told reporters on Sunday that "while certain bombings have actually stopped inside of the Gaza Strip, there's no ceasefire in place at this point in time".

Bedrosian said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had given orders "to fire back for defensive purposes... if there is a threat to their life in the battlefield in Gaza".

Reports from Gaza say Israel continued air strikes and tank fire overnight and into Sunday, destroying a number of residential buildings in Gaza City.

A BBC correspondent heard explosions from inside Gaza and saw a plume of smoke while near the border in Kibbutz Be'eri, Israel, on Sunday morning.

Another 65 people were killed by Israeli military operations in the 24 hours leading up to midday, Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry said.

Trump urges mediators to 'move fast' as key Gaza peace talks set to begin

US President Donald Trump has urged everyone involved in efforts to end the Gaza war to "move fast" as mediators are set to meet in Egypt on Monday for indirect peace talks between Hamas and Israel.

The talks come after Hamas agreed to some parts of a 20-point US peace plan, including freeing hostages and handing over Gaza governance to Palestinian technocrats, but is seeking negotiations on other issues.

The group's response did not mention the key demands of its disarmament and playing no future role in Gaza's governance.

Writing on social media that talks had been "very successful", Trump said: "I am told the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to move fast."

The US president added that "time is of the essence or massive bloodshed will follow".

Speaking to reporters earlier, Trump said he thought the hostages would start to be freed "very soon".

When asked about flexibility over his peace plan, Trump said "we don't need flexibility because everybody has pretty much agreed to it, but there will always be some changes".

"It's a great deal for Israel, it's a great deal for the entire Arab world, Muslim world, and world, so we're very happy about it," he added.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told the BBC's US news partner CBS News that bombing needs to stop to facilitate a hostage release.

"You can't release hostages while there's still bombardments going on... that has to stop, but you also have to work through the other logistics," he told CBS News' Face the Nation on Sunday.

"We want to get the hostages out as soon as possible," he added.

The 20-point plan proposes an immediate end to fighting and the release of 48 hostages, only 20 of whom are thought to be alive, in exchange for hundreds of detained Gazans.

Netanyahu said in a televised address on Saturday that he hoped to announce the release of hostages "in the coming days".

The prime minister has "made it clear that in an agreement with the Trump administration talks will be confined to a few days maximum", Bedrosian said.

Netanyahu ordered the departure of the Israeli delegation on Monday for the crucial talks.

A Hamas delegation headed by chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, one of the targets of an Israeli assassination attempt in Doha, Qatar last month, was due to arrive in Cairo on Sunday night.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will also attend.

The talks are expected to be among the most consequential since the start of the war and could determine whether a path toward ending the conflict is finally within reach.

Many Palestinians described Hamas' response to the peace plan as unexpected, after days of indications that the group was preparing to reject or at least heavily condition its acceptance of Trump's peace plan proposal.

Instead, Hamas refrained from including its traditional "red lines" in the official statement, a move many interpret as a sign of external pressure.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the talks told the BBC that Qatari, Egyptian and Turkish mediators played a major role in convincing Hamas to tone down its objections and to leave contentious points such as the fate of its weapons, Gaza's post-war governance and its other concerns for the negotiation table.

Many Gazans warn that this tactical flexibility carries considerable risk.

Every additional day of delay means more deaths, destruction, and displacement for hundreds of thousands of Gazans.

Yet Hamas' decision to enter the talks without explicit preconditions could also be seen as a recognition of its limited leverage after nearly two years of war.

Trump, when asked by CNN's Jake Tapper what would happen if Hamas insists on staying in power in Gaza, responded in a text message that the group would face "complete obliteration".

The US president posted on social media that Israel had agreed to an initial withdrawal line in Gaza, the first in a proposed series of pull-backs by Israeli forces.

According to population distribution data in the Gaza Strip, the withdrawal map published by Trump would initially exclude nearly 900,000 Palestinians from returning to their homes.

The proposed lines carve out Rafah at the southernmost edge, Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia in the north, nearly a quarter of Gaza City, and half of Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah in the centre and south.

Hamas had rejected a similar map during previous rounds of talks in March and May this year.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

Since then, 67,139 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza, the health ministry says.

International journalists have been banned by Israel from entering the Gaza Strip independently since the start of the war, making verifying claims from both sides difficult.

For now, the region holds its breath as negotiators prepare to gather in Egypt, hoping that despite deep mistrust and political fragility this round might finally open the way toward a ceasefire.

Deadly Israeli airstrikes continue as Hamas and Israel to start indirect talks on Gaza plan

The US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, yesterday urged Israel to stop bombing Gaza ahead of the discussions in Egypt.

“You can’t release hostages in the middle of strikes, so the strikes will have to stop,” Rubio told CBS.

Despite this warning, at least seven Palestinian civilians have been killed by Israeli forces across the Gaza Strip since dawn on Monday, according to Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Gaza’s civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal told the BBC, meanwhile, that 24 Palestinian people were killed in the latest 24 hours, with Israeli bombardment having continued overnight and into Monday.

Potential hurdles litter road as Israel and Hamas head to Gaza peace talks

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas over Trump’s 20-point plan are set to begin in Sharm el-Sheikh, but the lack of details means plenty of potential obstacles remain.

Delegations from Hamas, Israel and the United States are due to convene in Egypt for talks on US President Donald Trump’s proposal to end the war in Gaza.

Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas over the 20-point plan are due to begin in Egypt’s Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday.

The talks, which come on the eve of the second anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel that led to the war, have raised hopes that the devastating conflict, which has killed tens of thousands in Gaza, could soon end. But at the same time, there are plenty of potential obstacles to sealing a deal.

Trump has insisted that both sides are on board with his peace framework and has called for the negotiations to “move fast” in reaching an agreement.

Despite the failure of several initiatives to try to end the conflict, including two brief ceasefires that collapsed, the bombardment of Gaza, which has now killed at least 67,160 people, wounded 169,679, and pushed the enclave’s two million or so people towards starvation, Trump said “the first phase should be completed this week”.

In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said there had been “very positive discussions with Hamas” and other governments over the weekend “to release the Hostages, end the War in Gaza but, more importantly, finally have long sought peace in the Middle East”.

“These talks have been very successful, and proceeding rapidly,” he said. “I am asking everyone to move fast … time is of the essence, or massive bloodshed will follow.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also appeared to buoy expectations when he said the release of the 48 Israeli captives held by Hamas – 20 of whom are believed to be alive – could be announced this week.

Under the plan, Hamas would release the captives in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

Israel and Hamas begin indirect talks in Egypt on Trump's Gaza peace plan

Indirect talks aimed at reaching a final agreement on a US peace plan to end the war in Gaza have begun in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Palestinian and Egyptian officials have told the BBC that the sessions are focused on "creating the field conditions" for a possible exchange that would see the release of all Israeli hostages in return for a number of Palestinian prisoners.

Hamas has said it agrees to the peace plan proposals in part, but has not responded to several key demands - including its disarmament and future role in Gaza.

Israel's prime minister said on Saturday that he hoped to announce the release of hostages "in the coming days".

Trump says chance of Gaza peace deal 'really good' as talks to continue in Egypt

Indirect talks aimed at reaching a final agreement on a US peace plan to end the war in Gaza are set to continue on Tuesday in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh.

Palestinian and Egyptian officials have told the BBC that the sessions are focused on "creating the field conditions" for a possible exchange that would see the release of all Israeli hostages in return for a number of Palestinian prisoners.

Israel's prime minister said on Saturday that he hoped to announce the release of hostages "in the coming days".

As the officials met on Monday, US President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House: "We have a really good chance of making a deal, and it'll be a lasting deal."

Hamas has said it agrees to the peace plan proposals in part, but has not responded to several key demands - including its disarmament and not having any future role in the governance of Gaza.

A senior Israeli security source said the talks initially would focus only on the release of hostages and give Hamas a few days to complete that phase.

The second day of the talks, which will see Egyptian and Qatari officials holding shuttle meetings with delegations from both Israel and Hamas separately, will be taking place on the second anniversary of the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response. Since then, 67,160 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza, including 18,000 children, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

In a statement commemorating the 7 October anniversary, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Trump's plan "presents an opportunity that must be seized to bring this tragic conflict to an end".

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer reiterated his support for the plan in his statement commemorating the anniversary, saying: "We welcome the US initiative towards peace in the Middle East, and this government will do everything in our power to bring about the day where every child of Israel can live peacefully, alongside their Palestinian neighbours, in safety and security."

These discussions are expected to be among the most consequential since the start of the war and could determine whether a path toward ending the conflict is finally within reach.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani are among those attending.

Trump, writing on social media, has urged everyone involved in efforts to end the Gaza war to "move fast" and says he has been told the first phase of the peace plan - which includes the hostage release - "should be completed this week".

On Monday, he told reporters at the White House that "Hamas has been agreeing to things that are very important."

"I really think we're going to have a deal," he added.

A Palestinian official close to the negotiations told the Reuters news agency that the first session ended late Monday evening, and more talks were due to take place on Tuesday.

State-affiliated Al-Qahera News also said talks would continue on Tuesday – and that the first day had ended "amid a positive atmosphere".

The 20-point plan, which has been agreed upon by Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, proposes an immediate end to fighting and the release of 48 hostages, only 20 of whom are thought to be alive, in exchange for hundreds of detained Gazans.

The plan stipulates that once both sides agree to the proposal "full aid will be immediately sent into the Gaza Strip".

It also states that Hamas would have no role in governing Gaza, and it leaves the door open for an eventual Palestinian state.

However, after the plan was announced publicly a week ago, Netanyahu reinstated his longstanding opposition to a Palestinian state, saying in a video statement: "It's not written in the agreement. We said we would strongly oppose a Palestinian state."

On Friday, Hamas responded to the proposal in a statement, in which the group agreed "to release all Israeli prisoners, both living and dead, according to the exchange formula contained in Trump's proposal" - if the proper conditions for the exchanges are met.

It did not specifically mention or accept Trump's 20-point plan but said it "renews its agreement to hand over the administration of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian body of independents (technocrats), based on Palestinian national consensus and Arab and Islamic support."

The statement made no mention of the demands that Hamas agree to its disarmament and to playing no further role in the governance of Gaza.

It added that the part of the proposals dealing with the future of Gaza and the rights of Palestinian people was still being discussed "within a national framework", of which it said Hamas will be a part.

European and Middle Eastern leaders have welcomed the proposal. The Palestinian Authority (PA), which governs parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, has called the US president's efforts "sincere and determined".

Iran - which has been one of Hamas's main sponsors for many years - has also now signalled its support for Trump's Gaza peace plan.

Israeli bombardment continued in several parts of the Gaza Strip on Monday ahead of the talks beginning.

Israel is carrying out an offensive in the city, which it has said is aimed at securing the release of the remaining hostages.

Mahmoud Basal, spokesman for Gaza's Hamas-run civil defence, told the BBC that "no aid trucks have been allowed into Gaza City since the offensive began four weeks ago".

"There are still bodies we cannot retrieve from areas under Israeli control," he said.

Hundreds of thousands of Gaza City residents have been forced to flee after the Israeli military ordered evacuations to a designated "humanitarian area" in the south, but hundreds of thousands more are believed to have remained.

Israel's defence minister has warned that those who stay during the offensive would be "terrorists and supporters of terror".

In the last 24 hours, 21 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and a further 96 injured, the Hamas-run health ministry said in its latest update.

International journalists have been banned by Israel from entering the Gaza Strip independently since the start of the war, making verifying claims from both sides difficult.

Future of Gaza must remain in the hands of Palestinians: Qatar

While it is too early to speak about the future of Hamas, the future of Gaza and the people must remain in the hands of the Palestinians, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson added.

“The reconstruction [of Gaza] will require international support but the Palestinian affairs must remain in the hands of Palestinians who have the liberty and freedom to determine their future.”

US special envoy and Trump's son-in-law to join Gaza peace talks in Egypt

US special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner will join Gaza peace plan talks between Israeli and Hamas negotiators in Egypt on Wednesday.

Their arrival comes as a second day of indirect talks on Tuesday ended without tangible results, a senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations told the BBC.

Trump struck a positive tone as Israelis marked the second anniversary of the 7 October Hamas-led attacks on their country, saying "there's a possibility that we could have peace in the Middle East".

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not comment on the status of the talks, but told Israelis they were in "fateful days of decision".

In a post on X, Netanyahu added that Israel would continue to act to achieve its war aims: "The return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the promise that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel".

Witkoff and Kushner were expected to depart the US on Tuesday evening and arrive in Egypt on Wednesday, a source familiar with the talks told the BBC.

Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, seen as a key mediator, will also join the talks, an official told the Reuters news agency.

Al Thani's attendance was aimed at "pushing forward the Gaza ceasefire plan and hostage release agreement", the official said.

The head of Turkish intelligence is expected to join him.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations told the BBC that an evening round of indirect talks on Tuesday began at 19:00 local time (16:00 GMT).

The official said the morning session ended without tangible results, amid disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not resume fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the talks were "tough and have yet to produce any real breakthrough", but noted that mediators were working hard to narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Trump addressed concerns on Tuesday, telling reporters that "we're going to do everything possible to make sure everybody adheres to the deal".

Earlier, a Palestinian official said the negotiations were focused on five key issues: a permanent ceasefire; the exchange of the hostages still held by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners and detainees from Gaza; the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza; arrangements for humanitarian aid deliveries; and post-war governance of the territory.

Chief Hamas negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, whom Israel targeted last month in a series of air strikes on Qatar's capital, told Egyptian state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV the group had come to have "serious and responsible negotiations".

Hayya said Hamas was ready to reach a deal, but it needed "real guarantees" from Trump and the international community that the war would end and not restart.

Senior Hamas official Fawzi Barhoum said the group's negotiators were working to remove "all obstacles to an agreement that meets the aspirations of our people".

Trump said the prospects for peace were "something even beyond the Gaza situation", adding that "we want the release of the hostages immediately".

In a message marking the anniversary of the 7 October attacks, the single deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust, UN Secretary General António Guterres called on all parties to agree to Trump's peace plan, describing it as a "historic opportunity" to "bring this tragic conflict to an end".

Opinion polls now consistently show that around 70% of Israelis want the war to end in exchange for the release of the hostages.

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

At least 67,173 have been killed by Israeli military operations in Gaza since then, including 20,179 children, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry. Its figures are seen as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

The ministry has said another 460 people have died from the effects of malnutrition since the start of the war, including 182 since a famine was confirmed in Gaza City in August by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC).

The UN-backed body said more than half a million people across Gaza were facing "catastrophic" conditions characterised by "starvation, destitution and death".

Netanyahu has repeatedly denied starvation is taking place in Gaza.

A UN commission of inquiry said last month that Israel had committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, in a report Israel's foreign ministry categorically rejected as "distorted and false".

This peace plan will never work. Trump is trying to fool the entire world again. I highly doubt Hamas would agree to lay down their arms, move themselves out from governing Palestine and allow a foreign body comprised of Tony Blair to run the country.

Israeli forces intercept new aid flotilla bound for Gaza

A new flotilla heading for the Gaza Strip with food and medical supplies on board has been intercepted by Israeli forces.

The fleet, made up of nine vessels and 150 people, was stopped in international waters, according to the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza which are jointly running the operation.

"Another futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade and enter a combat zone ended in nothing," Israel's foreign ministry said.

Last week, Israel's military stopped a 42-boat aid convoy with 479 pro-Palestinian activists on board, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg. Almost all of them have been deported, with six reportedly still in detention.

Organisers of the new attempt initially said three of its boats had been intercepted in the early hours of Wednesday morning, 120 nautical miles off the coast of Gaza.

Within hours, a live tracker showed that all nine boats had been stopped.

"The vessels and the passengers are transferred to an Israeli port. All the passengers are safe and in good health," the Israeli government said.

"The passengers are expected to be deported promptly."

The 150 passengers hail from a wide range of countries, including Turkey whose foreign ministry called the intervention "a grave violation of international law" and "an act of piracy".

The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.

At least 67,183 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the territory's health ministry.

Israel has maintained a naval blockade off the coast of Gaza since 2007, when Hamas took control of the Strip.

Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry has said at least 460 Palestinians have died from the effects of malnutrition since the start of the war, including 182 since the declaration of a famine in Gaza City, which has been at the centre of an Israeli military campaign in recent weeks.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), which is backed by the United Nations, confirmed there was a famine in Gaza City and warned that it could spread within weeks.

Israel disputes the IPC's findings. It insists that it acts in accordance with international law and facilitates the entry of aid into Gaza.

US and Israel upgrade presence at Gaza talks after Hamas hands over hostage swap list

Talks to end the war in Gaza were bolstered by the arrival of senior figures from Israel and the United States on Wednesday after Hamas handed over its lists of hostages and Palestinian prisoners to be freed in a swap.

With President Donald Trump's 20-point plan appearing closer than any previous effort to halt the war, delegations were upgrading their presence at the talks, launched on Monday in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh.

Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh, sources familiar with the talks said, and an Israeli official said Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, a close confidant of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, was also now there.

They were expected to join the talks, along with the prime minister of longstanding mediator Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the indirect negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas had made "a lot of headway" and that a ceasefire would be declared if they reached a positive outcome.

Gaza deal is "very close" and could be reached in next 48 hours, sources say

A Gaza ceasefire deal could be reached within the next 48 hours, multiple sources familiar with the negotiations say.

Two Israeli sources said a deal was “very close,” with one saying an announcement could come within the next 24 hours. A third source said a deal could be reached in the next 48 hours, with the release of hostages likely beginning early next week.

A US official confirmed progress had been made, saying that a deal could come within “days.”

In a further sign that talks were moving in a positive direction, one Israeli official said the government has already started work on a preliminary draft of the ceasefire resolution that would be presented to the cabinet for a vote if any agreement is reached.

According to Israeli law, any decision to release Palestinian prisoners as part of a hostage deal must first be approved by the government.

If the cabinet votes in favor of the deal, there is a short window for petitions to be filed before Israel’s High Court of Justice to challenge the releases. The government can only proceed with releases after that hurdle is cleared.

India Welcomes Israel-Hamas Deal, PM Modi Praises Netanyahu's Leadership

India has welcomed the US-brokered peace deal between Israel and Hamas that would facilitate the return of those held hostage in Gaza and a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from the besieged land. Trump and Netanyahu confirmed the development earlier this morning, aiming to end the war that has kept the Middle East on the boil since 2023.

This reflects the strong leadership of Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this morning, hoping that the agreement would pave the way for lasting peace in the war-torn Gaza Strip.

"We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump's peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace," said PM Modi, tagging US President Donald Trump and Israel's PM Netanyahu in an online post.

Under the deal, Hamas would release all hostages "very soon" and Israel would pull its troops back beyond an agreed-upon line, Trump said in an online post earlier this morning, calling it a "great day" for the Arab and Muslim world and Israel.

For Netanyahu, it was a "diplomatic success" and a "national and moral victory" for Israel.

"From the beginning, I made it clear: we will not rest until all our hostages return and all our goals are achieved. Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally, President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point," he said, thanking the US President for his "unwavering commitment" to the safety of Israel and the freedom of hostages.

The Israel-Hamas deal seeks to end the two-year war that had begun with a surprise offensive in border towns of Israel by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

The focus, however, is on the release of hostages. Hamas had submitted a list of Palestinian prisoners that it wants to be freed from Israeli jails in the first phase of the deal. In exchange, Hamas would set free 47 remaining hostages, both alive and dead.

Israelis, Palestinians celebrate after agreement on Gaza ceasefire and return of hostages

Israelis and Palestinians rejoiced on Thursday after a ceasefire and hostage deal was reached under the first phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end a war in Gaza that has killed more than 67,000 people and reshaped the Middle East.

Just a day after the second anniversary of Hamas militants' cross-border attack that triggered Israel's devastating assault on Gaza, indirect talks in Egypt yielded an agreement on the initial stage of Trump’s 20-point framework to bring peace to the Palestinian enclave.

The Reuters Gulf Currents newsletter brings you the latest on geopolitics, energy and finance in the region. Sign up here.

The accord, if fully implemented, would bring the two sides closer than any previous effort to halt a war that had evolved into a regional conflict, drawing in countries such as Iran, Yemen and Lebanon.

News of the deal prompted celebrations in Israel, Gaza and beyond, with Israeli families of hostages letting off fireworks, while Palestinians clapped and cheered in hopes of an end to the bloodshed.

“Thank God for the ceasefire, the end of bloodshed and killing," said Abdul Majeed abd Rabbo, a man in the southern Gaza city of Khan Younis.

"I am not the only one happy, all of the Gaza Strip is happy, all the Arab people, all of the world is happy with the ceasefire and the end of bloodshed."

But the agreement announced by Trump late on Wednesday was short on detail and left many unresolved questions that could yet lead to its collapse, as has happened with previous peace efforts.

"I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan," Trump said on Truth Social.

"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," Trump added.

Successful completion of the deal would mark a significant foreign policy achievement for the Republican president, who had campaigned on bringing peace to major world conflicts but has struggled to swiftly deliver, both in Gaza and on Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would convene his government on Thursday to approve the agreement.

"With the approval of the first phase of the plan, ALL our hostages will be brought home," he said in a statement. "This is a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for the State of Israel."

The conflict upended the Middle East in Israel's favour after it assassinated the leaders of Tehran-backed Hamas and Lebanon's Hezbollah and killed top Iranian commanders and pounded Yemen's Houthis.

But global outrage has mounted against Israel's assault. Multiple rights experts, scholars and a U.N. inquiry say it amounts to genocide. Israel calls its actions self-defence after the 2023 Hamas attack.

Hamas confirmed it had reached an agreement to end the war, saying the deal includes an Israeli withdrawal from the enclave and a hostage-prisoner exchange.

"We affirm that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain, and that we will remain true to our pledge - never abandoning our people’s national rights until freedom, independence, and self-determination are achieved," Hamas said.

Gaza authorities say more than 67,000 people have been killed and much of the enclave has been flattened since Israel began its military response to the Hamas cross-border attack on October 7, 2023.

Around 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage back to Gaza, according to Israeli officials, with 20 of the 48 hostages still held believed to be alive.

"These are moments that are considered historic moments, long awaited by Palestinian citizens after two years of killing and genocide that was committed with arrogance against the Palestinian people," said Palestinian Khaled Shaat in the city of Khan Younis in Gaza.

Despite the hopes raised for ending the war, crucial details are yet to be spelled out, including the timing, a post-war administration for the Gaza Strip and the fate of Hamas.

HOSTAGE RELEASE EXPECTED IN DAYS

Families of Israelis held hostage in Gaza gathered in what has come to be known as Hostages Square in Tel Aviv after the announcement.

"President Trump, thank you very much. We thank him, our children will not have returned home without him," said Hatan Angrest, whose son Matan is among the hostages.

A Hamas source said the living hostages would be handed over within 72 hours of the Israeli government approving the deal. Hamas officials have insisted it will take longer to recover the bodies of dead hostages, believed to number about 28, from Gaza’s rubble.

Trump told Fox News' 'Hannity' program on Wednesday that the hostages will probably be released on Monday.

Netanyahu and Trump spoke by phone and congratulated each other on an "historic achievement," and the Israeli prime minister invited the U.S. president to address Israel’s parliament, according to Netanyahu's office.

Hamas said earlier on Wednesday it had handed over its lists of the hostages it held and the Palestinian prisoners held by Israel that it wanted to be exchanged.

The Islamist group has so far refused to discuss Israel's demand that Hamas give up its arms, which the Palestinian source said Hamas would reject as long as Israeli troops occupy Palestinian land.

The next phase of Trump's plan calls for an international body led by Trump and including former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to play a role in Gaza's post-war administration.

Arab countries which back the plan say it must lead to eventual independence for a Palestinian state, which Netanyahu says will never happen.

There is no clear indication who will rule Gaza when the war ends. Netanyahu, Trump, Western and Arab states have ruled out a role for Hamas, which has run Gaza since driving out Palestinian rivals in 2007.

Hamas has said it would relinquish Gaza governance only to a Palestinian technocrat government supervised by the Palestinian Authority and backed by Arab and Muslim countries. It rejects any role for Blair or foreign rule of Gaza.

Finally! Hope it doesn't fail. The madness has to stop. This is not the 15th century.

He is getting away with it scot free

People like Modi are praising his leadership.

People like Trump is directly funding this genocide whom Pakistan wanted to give peace prize.

Modi is simply supporting the peace deal as it will stop killing. It is a noble stance. Asim Munir from Islamic republic of Pakistan is directly Paw Pawing the genocider.

Hope this peace deal would stop all these irritating protests in streets and universities across London. Free our roads...no place for riot like situation every weekend.

Pakistan have never given any praise to Israel.

Trumps effort must be commended. Yes it is one sided deal but he has helped at least put some pressure on Netanyahu.

Modi is supporting the leadership of Netanyahu. The implication of what he is saying is clear. He is giving shabash for killing so many Muslim babies

When has Modi said shabash for killing muslim babies? Does these kind of dramebaazi works in this day and age, LOL.

If anything, India always stayed neutral in this fight. It is Pakistan who shed crocodile tears for Palestine and then support for noble peace prize for Trump whose administration directly responsible for killing Philistine kids. Just like how Islamic republic of Pakistan acts hypocritical for Uyghur muslims in China.

As I said, the implication of Modi statement is clear. You can bury your head in the sand if you wish.

The genocide started before the Trump administration.

Even Indian opposition are aghast at Modis support for the genocidal Netanyahu.

He really has proven why Bilawal called him a Temu Netanyahu. Even western leaders have praised the agreement without praising Netanyahu.

It is a shame that you concluded Modi's tweet about welcoming the peace plan to him being praising children getting killed. It is more of a case of your inner bias and things you want to hear more than my burying my head in sand.

It is also your inner bias that you will not blame Munir/your army for nominating Trump for peace prize award who is directly responsible for killing mussalman kids in Philistine.

If I praised Hitler, what would you infer from that?

Modi praising a genocidal maniac that the whole world detests is disgraceful.

Trump is also a piece of **** for imposing a foreign body to rule Gaza which includes Tony Blair and himself. He’s also complicit in genocide for letting Netanyahu do whatever he wants and for providing military support.

Okay what that makes of Pakistan for nominating same piece of **** Trump for noble peace prize?

Okay what that makes of Pakistan for nominating same piece of **** Trump for noble peace prize?
What’s that got to do with me? I don’t give a **** for people in power whether in Pakistan or India or U.K. or the US. I hate them all.

Pakistan is sucking Trump’s ass and I find it disgraceful, just as much as Pakistan covering China’s torture of the Uighur's.

The world is a horrible place and humans are horrible creatures.

Arre bhai...so say that to @DeadlyVenom na. He is the one defending Pakistani establishment here for nominating Trump for noble peace prize and accusing Modi for taking pleasure in killing mussalman kids of Philistine.

There is a difference.

Pakistan presented Trump this sham nomination to try and stop a war on Iran and secure a deal. It was done with the intention of negotation.

You cannot compare it to Modi lauding Netanyahu after the deal is secured. It is truly shameful, what leadership is he praising?

The only logical conclusion is he giving shabash for the genocide.

"The prime Minister has welcomed the new developments regarding Gaza and hailed President Trump. That eagerness to do so is not surprising. But what is shocking, shameful, and morally atrocious is Mr Modi's unqualified praise for the Israeli PM Mr Netanyahu - who has unleashed a genocide in Gaza over the past twenty months,"

Congress general secretary in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh

Respect for Jairam bhai. He seems like a proper statesman.

I don’t think Modi is taking pleasure in killing Palestinian kids. He’s just supporting his genocidal friend Netty, just like he supports his criminal friend Putin. Doesn’t mean he enjoys the death of Ukrainians.

I’ll say it to anyone, sucking ass to Trump is a shitty thing. Until Pakistan improves itself and becomes stronger like India, it will continue to suck American ass and won’t have any self-respect.

Huh?

Actively participating? You are reading Times of India too much.

I think recent events have unhinged you gabba Bhai. Sit down and have some water bro, BP seems high.

It’s debatable that Pakistan did it to secure peace for Iran.

It’s debatable that Pakistan did it to secure peace for Iran.
It is likely that was the reason.

But what is there to debate about Modis praise or Netanyahu?

The whole world is giving thanks that the war is over, praising the partners in negotiation but one guy breaks ranks and praises a war criminal.

and Pak military was actively participating in the genocide and nominated Trump for Nobel peace prize. how does it feel to be citizen such a whore of a country? or are you wearing your British jersey now?
Yes, nominating Trump was a really crappy thing but this is ludicrous. Actively participating in genocide is to do the killing or providing weapons, etc. which Pakistan did not do.

I agree, Modi is just another piece of crap.

UN’s top priority is getting humanitarian aid to Gaza

The key role for the UN now going forward is the humanitarian part of this. Remember, the UN has been locked out of Gaza and the humanitarian efforts. They’ve not been able to get any of their supplies in, and of course, we have a situation of famine in Gaza.

The American administration had for many months been backing the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, who, when they carried out their work there, were surrounded by mercenaries and Israeli security forces. And many times, those aid delivery efforts turned into massacres.

The UN wants to get back, it wants to get involved. I think the UN is pleased that the Trump 20-point plan puts the UN in place. It puts the UN and the Red Crescent as the delivery methods for aid going forward, and not that controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.

We know in the past that Israel has wanted to inspect every single truck. It’s caused all sorts of problems for aid coming in and for aid workers, not granting their visas. I think they’ll be looking at the UN to see whether that has changed.

This peace plan will never work. Trump is trying to fool the entire world again. I highly doubt Hamas would agree to lay down their arms, move themselves out from governing Palestine and allow a foreign body comprised of Tony Blair to run the country.
Good post. Hamas will never give up their ways.

Trump trying too hard to get that Nobel peace prize.

You think Jairam Ramesh has love for Palestinians? He is a Congress stooge and will do exact opposite of Modi does.

Had Modi praised Hamas and Palestinians, Jairam would have blasted him and praised Netanyahu. Opposition party's duty is to oppose no matter what. :mv

For a long lasting peace to happen, Gaza should merge with Egypt. Gaza cannot survive on its own.
Secondly the other part of Palestine which is Westbank should merge with Jordan or Lebanon.

Palestinians need political stability which only Egypt or Jordan can provide. This will ensure Hamas like Terrorist organizations will never comeback to power again.

Gaza was part of Egypt and the West Bank was part of Jordan until Israel invaded in 1967 and annexed both.

While Jordan gave its Palestinian in the West Bank citizenship, Egypt did not do the same for the people of Gaza, which makes them as bad as Israel in that regard.

Israel will never allow this since it means loss of land. Israel needs land, how else will it accommodate Jews making Aliyah from the West? Did you know land in the West Bank is cheaper than in Israel itself, hence why they are building illegal settlements as per international law.

Typo. I meant to say "actively participated" remember mard-e-momin's service in Jordan?

Not surprised you want to deflect from Pak's active role in adding to the Palestinian misery over the years.

The Trump Nobel peace nomination is a symbol of Pak aukat. no amount of dancing around will make that go away

Perfect.
Israel invaded and won the war and hence the territory.

As a good will gesture Israel should give back the territory to Egypt and Jordan and in return, Jordan and Egypt should ensure border safety and no more terror attacks from their soil.

Anyways Gaza and Westbank are controlled by Palestinians anyways. Its not like Israel rules those places or has evacuated all of Palestinians from Gaza and Westbank. So why not just give the territory back will be the question.

The whole world is giving thanks that the war is over, praising the partners in negotiation but one guy breaks ranks and praises a war criminal.
ok forget any sides for a second.

It’s called a “Peace deal”

Peace between whom? Gaza/ Islamic countries and …….. (fill in the blanks) ?

If Netanhayu was considered a war criminal, he would be arrested and this wouldn’t be called a “peace deal”, it would be called a victory for the other side.

By the way Pakistan signed on the dotted line which pretty much says “bas kar Netanyahu” 🙏

Ps: I don’t endorse any innocent dying leave alone kids. I have 0 stake in this war and I am happy if it ends peacefully 👍

Palestinians don’t control their territories. Have you not been paying attention? Gaza has been blockaded by Israel since 1967. Israel controls what comes in and out as well as its water supply and electricity. It’s an open air prison!

West Bank is divided into 3 parts as per Oslo; areas A, B and C.

A and C make up 20% of the West Bank territory each (total 40%). In A the Palestinian Authority (PA) controls both the civil and security apparatus/infrastructure. In B, the PA controls civil and Israel controls security and in C, which is 60% of the West Bank territory, Israel controls it all and is building illegal settlements. Israel was supposed to hand over all of the West Bank to the PA but it hasn’t and when Palestinians try to build homes in B and C, it tears them down and cites security concerns, despite the West Bank being Palestinian territory. Palestinians can’t get permits to build on their own land.

So you are having a laugh if you think they control their own territories.

Netenyahu has arrest warrants issued by the ICC and if he lands in countries which abide by this, he will be arrested. There is a reason why can can’t visit Europe. Countries like Spain have openly said they will arrest him.

Some random arrest warrants don’t matter. People have FIR’s registered for social media posts. At the end of the day he is sitting at the negotiating table from a position of power and the other side is making peace with him. Rest all is rhetorical.

India voted in favor of Palestine and Indian govt has good relationship with Non-Hamas and civilian leadership there and so do we have with Israel. Not our conflict. That’s how diplomacy works.

You have some extra sentimental attachment, that’s your issue. Not mine.

I was just responding that there are 0 issues if Modi wished the democratically elected leader of another country. You are just wasting time and energy blowing a gasket over that.

Invading other countries or kingdoms or empires is part of our history. Your own Islamic empire spread from a tiny place in Saudi Arabia all the way to Western border of India to Eastern part of Europe. How do you think it spread? Magic?
Your own country Pakistan also invaded Kashmir and took a portion of it.
China invaded Tibet and took over the country. They also annexed Eastern Turkmenistan and gave it a nice Chinese name. No qualms about it I suppose for them.

Gaza may be blocked by Israel. But the government is still Hamas which does not want peace with Israel. Palestine produces no oil or natural gas and completely reliant on Israel. But their government wants to rout out Israel into oblivion. Bunch of jokers are these Hamas loonies.

What you are saying Israel controls PA, Israel won the war and the land belongs to them now. They will have to renounce the ownership of the land out of charity and for long lasting peace.

Palestinians are in no position to demand land. Anything they get from Israel is out of goodwill. Victors get the spoils of war.

Again, Palestinians lost their land during the Israel Arab war. It is history. For the sake of peace, Israel should give up that land. If they want it, they have to fight for it again. If they cannot fight, they should be happy with what they got.

You care comparing the ICC arrest warrants with some FIRs! Seriously? The ICC is the highest criminal court in the world! Netenyahu will one day for his crimes.

Sorry for being sentimental when there is a literal genocide happening but I guess you don’t care about that. Scumbag!!!!

Modi is wishing a genocidal maniac well. Says a lot about his character. Such hypocrisy coming from those who are supporting this when they cry over terrorist attacks or claim they are for humanity.

Abusing me, Indians. Hindus or Modi will not acheieve anything here. Your opinions don’t matter: At the end of the day Pakistan an Islamic country is sitting on the negotiating table Or part of this with the other party. The other party being “Netanyahu”. You are barking up the wrong tree here.

If you feel Netanyahu eliminated all people in Gaza, than Pakistan needs to use the nuclear weapon right? What can be a better reason to use it?

India has nothing to do here. We have great relationships with both sides. Your opinion doesn’t matter. It’s been crystal clear from the start that we don’t pick sides.

You need to take it up with your leadership who us part of the peace deal with Netanyahu. Rest all his rhetoric.

1967 annexation happened after the rules based order was established. Countries cant go around taking land anymore and you can’t compare what happened 100s of years ago with that.

Islam did not all spread by the sword, it also spread via trade and conversion by people. The initial spread of Islam happened under legitimate cause. There were two empires surrounding the early Arab Muslims in Arabia, the Byzantine and the Sassanid empires. Both attacked the Arabs first, the Byzantine where their allies killed an ambassador and the Sassanids by instigating sedition in Arabia. The Muslims acted out in self-defence which was legitimate and they defeated both empires and took their territories all the way to the edge of Iran and to North Africa. This was legitimate as if they had not, they would have been wiped.

Any further expansion happened later under Arab rulers I do not consider legitimate, so don’t really care but my point was that there wasn’t a rules based world order at the time.

Pakistan taking Kashmir is no different to India taking states whose rulers were Muslim and wanted to be part of Pakistan. Both sides cheated and broke the partition agreement arranged by the British, which in itself went against the wishes of the local majority populations. You can’t compare the partition of the subcontinent with Israel/Palestine as the whole situation is very different and again there was no rules based order at the time.

The Palestinians don’t want to rout out Israel, they simply want their own land which Israel has not given them. They are native/indigenous to the land and have rights over it. They aren’t foreigners and have been there for thousands of years. DNA evidence proves this. You talk about right of conquest and territorial gains from war. Under international law, you can’t do that unless the UN authorises it. India can’t walk into Pakistan and claim territory just because it wins a war and takes over that territory. These things can’t happen any more and we are not living in the Middle Ages!

But let’s say Israel is allowed to claim and take territory. There is something called the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which supersedes any territorial rights. Under Human Rights, people need to be provided for and Israel despite taking their land, has not given them citizenship. You can’t simply take over territory and then not give citizenship to the very indigenous people you have taken territory from!

Even the US has given citizenship to the native Americans when they took their land.

Palestinians are reliant on Israel exactly because it has control over their land! They are given Bantustan style townships in the West Bank and are then expected to be self-reliant. You can’t make a functioning state out of bits of land here and there without a contiguous state. 60% of the West Bank is Area C and under complete control of Israel. If the Palestinians had even that they could do so much with it.

Palestine does produce oil/gas. It has natural gas reserves off the coast of Gaza but again fully controlled by Israel.

You talk about Israel winning the war, but they started the war which you ignore. It wasn’t the Palestinians who started it. And then you say they have to renounce the land out of charity. You are a sick individual with a backwards mentality where you think it is ok for countries to just randomly invade and take their land.

BTW, the Arabs invaded in 1948, a year after the Zionist terrorist militia like the Haganah and Irgun wiping out Palestinian villages in 1947. One of the main factors for the Arabs invading was because they were massacring Palestinians. Have you heard of the Deir Yassin massacre?

When did I say my opinions matter. I’m calling out your hypocrisy and your defence of something that is indefensible. Have some perspective and think that maybe, just maybe, supporting a genocidal maniac is not a good look by Modi. Have some empathy for people who are being genocided.

I don’t support the use of nuclear weapons nor is the Pakistani government my government. I don’t claim them nor do I care for them and not is Pakistan an Islamic country. It claims it is Islamic in name only.

I don’t care about India either. As I have said, I was simply pointing out that Modi likes to support some sick individuals. I have the right to say that whether my opinions matter or not. You have to logically refute my arguments why supporting sick people is ok and if you can’t then you have lost the argument.

Carry on having great relationships with immoral individuals.

Btw, the discussion was about Modi. I’m happy to say the same about anyone who has supported Netenyahu, whether it’s the Arab sheikhs or the Pakistani leadership.

Who is anyone to tell who to attack and whom not to?
How can Palestinians demand the land back after they lost the war fair and square? They had the entire Arab world fighting along their side and still lost. So they lost the land. As I said, Palestinians demanding the land back as some sort of birth right is a joke. Israel can only give them the land back out of generosity and charity. If Palestinians do not want Bheek ki Gift, then they should fight Israel and win it back.

US took over Native American lands and gave them citizenship. I am totally in favor of Palestinians joining Israel and form a united country. I doubt Hamas accepts it.

Who cares who started the war? It ended with Israeli victory and now are the new overlords. Accepting defeat and moving on is also a virtue instead of constantly crying about it and trying to take revenge. I am not against Palestinians taking revenge. They can win back the land. But they do not have the army or firepower to take on Israel.

That entire area is ridden with war in its history. It was under the occupation of many empires. It is just Israel's turn for now.

If that’s your logic then know that the Arabs will not forget what happened in the last two years. Israel is surrounded and one day daddy America will not be strong enough to protect it. I guess, as per your logic, you will be ok when that genocide happens to the Israelis.

Israel could have been fair and given the Palestinians their own land, and made good relations with the Arab world but instead it chose hatred and violence. It has set itself up for eventual demise. It might not happen in our lifetime, but it will happen.

Also, a lot of Palestinians want a single state with Israeli citizenship because they know they will never get their own land. However, majority do support a two state solution.

The UN decides as per international law. All countries have signed up to it. You can’t just say, no one tells us what to do lol.

They can demand the land back because they are living in their own indigenous land that was stolen from them and controlled by Israel. Why are we debating this simple point! If you steal my house, it doesn’t become yours just because you control it now! If you can’t understand this basic point, there is no point arguing with you on this anymore.

Israel was supported by the West against the Arabs, that’s how they won.

Israel has made peace with the biggest and richest Arab countries in Saudis and Emiratis. Israelis are not dumb. Their military is top notch and no Arab country will dare to attack it without heavy repurcussions.

I am totally in favor of Israel taking all Gazans as its citizens and forming a united country. But we are not the ones making decisions.

I am also in favor of 2 state solution. But for that Israel has to give up the land they won during the war with Arabs. So it depends on Israel’s goodwill and charitable mood. Most countries do not give up land they won during a hard fought war for charitable reasons. Even US fought war with Mexico and took over vast portions of its territory. East Asian looking Turks took over a Christian Anatolia and kicked out many out of those lands and converted many and took them as slaves. So much so that most Turks in Turkey have lost their Asian features completely.

Bottom line is, Palestinians and Muslim world in general have lost the war and lost their territory. They cannot demand it back as their birth right. Only Israel’s charitable mood can get them back the territory they lost. If they do not like to beg, they can fight and keep on fighting. It’s a waste of time.
Even if Israel gives back Gaza and Westbank back, those lands should be taken over by Egypt and Jordan. I feel Palestinians are too radicalized to not fight with Israel again and again.

The gulf Arabs are clever and are playing a long game. When the time comes that the US is no longer supreme and they think they can end Israel, they will attack.

Israeli military is propped up by the US. Their Air Defence is all paid for by Congress as is the $3.9bn they get from Congress annually for the latest jets like the F-35. Israel doesn’t have much of a navy and its army is small, again using US based weapons. They have no conventional ballistics the likes of which Iran has so can only attack via their jets.

The only thing they have going for them is their nukes, but if they use those. Israel will also be destroyed in return.

So, when the US declines and cannot support them, there will be blood.

You are right in saying Israel’s real power is coming from US. It is not going to change anytime soon. Not in the foreseeable future.

US is not going to decline. US along with China will rule the world from here on. Super Intelligence AI will be a reality by 2030. That will be the last ever invention that Humans will ever do. All the weapons that we see today will be outdated in a decade from now.

This is the reason why Saudis and Emiratis are rapidly modernizing their country. They do not want to be left behind with their oil wealth alone. Power comes with latest tech. Saudis and Emiratis are partnering with tech companies in US to stay in the race for global power grab. US will be an obvious winner and Israel along with it. So the power will stay with US and Israel no matter what.

I sincerely hope that peace returns to the innocent people of Gaza. They are stuck between Hamas and IDF. They have suffered enough.

I have logically refuted your points already but it keeps going over your head.

If “your country” as your name says “patriot” is sitting on the negotiating table with a so called genocider of Muslims when it clearly is so much of a touchy subject, you should be focusing on that.

Modi or Indian govt is a neutral party and has no stake here and as any diplomatic government would be we wished both parties “peace”

What is so confusing here?

If you just want to take Khunnas on Modi like every Pakistani does funnily and has his narrative centered around BJP/Modi which has nothing to do with this war and in fact voted in favor of Palestine, then you nitpicking on a tweet rather than focusing on the larger issue is definitely a you problem .

That just shows you probably are the typical enjoy failure of India more than any success of Pakistan even though clearly it seems like a Pakistani failure here for bowing down to Netanyahu’s terms 🤷‍♂️

this is exactly how things have happened. If you can’t see facts when it hit you in the face, Not my problem. We are done here 👍

Even India sat on a negotiating table when Modi asked Trump for the ceasefire.

You have not refuted anything.

I’m a patriot to Pakistanis not its government. It’s no government of mine. I have lived and spent my whole life in the U.K.

As for taking shots at Modi, the whole discussion was about Modi, so I made my comments that I find him supporting a genocidal maniac disgusting. You are the one who got offended by it, and could have simply agreed, yes Modi shouldn’t support horrible people but the issue is wider than Modi. But since you have to defend everything he says, you started arguing over a very simple point. Prove to me, why genocidal maniacs should be supported if you are so hell bent on defending Modi. I have no such loyalties to anyone.

I agree with you that Modi tweeting about it is the least of anyone’s concerns and the issue is wider. But look at my original post, I simply added my comments to the discussion at hand and it was nothing more. I’m not going to go against my morals that I find supporting genocidal maniacs an abhorrent act. What else were you expecting? I have made my criticisms of the US/Trump/Netenyahu/Pakistan known in other threads.

You can also check my other posts on the forum before accusing me of enjoying Indian failures as you claim. I do no such thing. I don’t go around creating threads about everything India does or attacking India. I have always been fair in my points of view. For example, even in this thread, I said that I don’t think that Modi enjoys the death of children as there is no evidence for it.

As for Pakistani government bowing to the Trump/Netenyahu deal, I will make it clear that all those who agreed to it and supported it are nothing but traitors to the Palestinian people.

Anyways Gaza and Westbank are controlled by Palestinians anyways. Its not like Israel rules those places or has evacuated all of Palestinians from Gaza and Westbank. So why not just give the territory back will be the question.
If that's the case, why are there 700,000 (and growing) Israeli settlements in the West Bank ? Those settlers regularly attack Palestinian villages with impunity and enjoy the protection of the IDF.

Because the land was won by Israel during the war. It is theirs now. Palestinians are allowed to govern it and live there. Until another agreement is made and the Israeli settlements are pulled back, Israel can do whatever it wants. Palestinians are living on a land that was given control to them by Israel's goodwill.

IMO, peace will not return unless
1) Gaza is absorbed into Egypt and Westbank into Jordan.
2) Israel takes complete control of both Gaza and Westbank. In this case, all of Palestinians will be refugees in Egypt and Jordan.

I prefer Case-1. If a separate Palestinian state exists, they will always be at war with Israel. The radical elements among them will not let peace prevail. It will lead to another war in the future. Same old story will repeat.

Ceasefire to come into effect on Saturday

A ceasefire is due to come into force early on Saturday in Gaza, 24 hours after the deal was approved by the Israeli government.

Once that starts, the hostages should be released within 72 hours. Twenty of them are believed to remain alive. In return, hundreds of Palestinians will be freed from Israeli jails.

Ahead of the vote, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, who has been accused of prolonging the conflict for political purposes, thanked US President Donald Trump for helping negotiate the deal.

Hamas’s exiled Gaza chief, Khalil Al-Hayya, said he had received guarantees from the United States and mediators that the war was over.

Germany, Egypt discuss Gaza during call following ceasefire

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz spoke with Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and praised Cairo’s role in helping achieve an end to Israel’s war on Gaza and promised further German support.

“The chancellor stressed that Germany would continue to engage with Egypt for the release of hostages, a stable ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of Gaza,” said a German government statement detailing the call.

Earlier, Merz said he wanted to organise an international conference with Egypt on the reconstruction of Gaza, saying it would “address the most urgent needs, such as rebuilding water and energy supplies and medical care”.

US to send 200 troops to Israel to monitor Gaza ceasefire

Up to 200 US troops already based in the Middle East will be moved to Israel to help monitor the ceasefire in Gaza, according to US officials.

The US military will establish a multinational taskforce in Israel, known as a civil-military coordination centre, which is likely to include troops from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey and the UAE, they said.

One senior official said no US forces will enter Gaza, adding that the American role was to create a Joint Control Center which will "integrate" the multinational force going in.

The Israeli government has approved the first phase of a Gaza deal with Hamas, which has led to a ceasefire and the release of hostages and prisoners.

The taskforce will be led by US Central Command (Centcom) based in the region, and is intended to oversee the progress of the ceasefire agreement and also help coordinate humanitarian assistance.

The multinational force will inform both the Israelis and Hamas via Egypt and Qatar of the situation on the ground and any potential violations of the truce, one of the officials said.

The force is being established under the leadership of Adm Brad Cooper, head of Centcom. He joined the American delegation for part of indirect talks in Egypt earlier this week, one of the officials said.

Those talks led to US President Donald Trump announcing on Thursday that Israel and Hamas had "signed off on the first phase" of a peace plan he unveiled last week.

One of the point's in Trump's 20-point Gaza plan included the US working with Arab and international partners to develop a temporary International Stabilisation Force to immediately deploy in Gaza but this is yet to be agreed between the sides and would only happen if a hostage and prisoner exchange is completed.

Israel launched the war in Gaza in response to the Hamas attacks on Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken hostage.

Since then, Israel's massive military offensive has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry, including more than 18,000 children. These figures are seen as reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

Hamas presses Israel to free prominent prisoners as part of Gaza deal

Hamas is pressing Israel to include prominent Palestinians in a prisoner-release list - part of a ceasefire deal that will also see hostages returned from Gaza.

Hamas's insistence comes after the Israeli justice ministry published the names of 250 prisoners to be freed, but excluded seven high-profile prisoners, including Marwan Barghouti and Ahmad Saadat.

The men, who are serving sentences after being convicted of involvement in separate deadly attacks in Israel, have long been seen by Palestinians as symbols of resistance.

Twenty Israeli hostages are expected to be released before 12:00 (09:00 GMT) on Monday as part of the deal proposed by US President Donald Trump.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the talks told the BBC that US envoy Steve Witkoff had promised to raise the exclusion of the Palestinian prisoners with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, but Israel has firmly refused to include them.

It is not clear whether this could be a sticking point, or impact the timeline for the release of hostages from the Gaza Strip and Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

The releases are due to take place in the first phase of Trump's ceasefire and hostage return deal, approved this week to end the two-year war in Gaza.

It is unclear how the hostages will be released this time - on previous occasions Hamas paraded them in public, infuriating Israel and many of its Western allies.

The bodies of deceased hostages will also be returned. It is thought that at least 26 hostages are deceased, with the fate of two others unknown.

Israel will also release about 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences in Israeli jails, and another 1,700 Palestinians from Gaza who have been detained.

Hamas had submitted a list of prisoners it wanted released that included Barghouti and Saadat.

Barghouti is serving five life sentences plus 40 years after being convicted in 2004 of planning attacks that led to five civilians being killed.

Opinion polls have consistently indicated that he remains the most popular Palestinian leader, and that Palestinians would vote for him in a presidential election ahead of the current Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas or Hamas leaders.

Barghouti remains a senior figure in the Fatah faction that dominates the PA, which governs parts of the occupied West Bank not under Israeli control.

Saadat, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was sentenced to 30 years after being convicted in 2008 of heading an "illegal terrorist organisation" and involvement in attacks, including the assassination of an Israeli minister in 2001.

Among the 250 prisoners set to be released is Iyad Abu al-Rub, an Islamic Jihad commander convicted of orchestrating suicide bombings in Israel that killed 13 people in the early 2000s.

According to the Israeli justice ministry, he will be released either to Gaza or deported abroad.

The BBC understands that Hamas is also pushing for some possible additional prisoner releases. These relate to Palestinian prisoners who were released years ago as part of an exchange for the hostage Gilad Shalit - and then were rearrested after 7 October.

Hamas argues that since they were part of a previous hostage exchange, they should not be included in the 250 figure.

'They've destroyed everything': Palestinians return to devastation in Gaza City
The first phase of the Israel-Hamas deal saw a ceasefire take effect on Fridayand Israeli forces partially withdraw from parts of Gaza. Hundreds of aid trucks a day are now expected to enter. The next phases are still being negotiated.

Israel's war on Gaza was triggered by the Hamas-led attacks on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage.

Since then, 67,682 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's military offensive in Gaza, the Hamas-run health ministry says.

Israelis praise Trump at huge rally ahead of expected hostage release by Hamas in Gaza

Hundreds of thousands of people have held a rally in Tel Aviv, ahead of the expected release of Israeli hostages by Hamas.

Addressing the crowds, US special envoy Steve Witkoff said the hostages "are coming home" and praised Donald Trump for making a Gaza ceasefire and hostage return deal possible.

In Gaza, Palestinian officials said about 500,000 people had returned to northern Gaza - which lies in ruins - in the past two days, following the withdrawal of Israeli troops.

Meanwhile Egypt confirmed it would host a summit on Monday to finalise an agreement aimed at ending the war.

More than 20 leaders including Trump would attend the summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, an Egyptian presidential spokesperson said. French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer are confirmed to be travelling to Egypt on Monday.

Trump is expected to visit Israel on Monday before heading to Egypt. His daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner also addressed the Tel Aviv rally on Saturday.

Three members of Qatar's top administrative body - the Amiri Diwan - died in a car crash near Sharm El-Sheikh, the Qatari embassy in Egypt said on Sunday. Qatar has been mediating in the Gaza crisis.

Under the ceasefire and hostage release deal announced on Thursday, Hamas was given 72 hours - until 12:00 local time (09:00 GMT) on Monday - to release all the 48 hostages it is still holding after two years of war, 20 of whom are assumed to be alive.

A top Hamas official, Osama Hamdan, told AFP news agency that "according to the signed agreement, the prisoner exchange is set to begin on Monday morning as agreed, and there are no new developments on this matter".

He said Hamas militants on the ground had not yet notified the movement's leadership about the logistics of the handover.

Aviv Havron, whose family members were murdered and others kidnapped in the 7 October 2023 attack by Hamas, told the BBC in Tel Aviv: "It's so important for the community... that they come back. Without this, we can't restart our lives.

"My sisters and two brothers in law were murdered. Seven of my family members were kidnapped - my older sister was kidnapped, her daughter, her grandchildren. Four bodies of Be'eri [community] members are still in Gaza,."

Shulamit and David Ginat, who also attended the Tel Aviv rally, told the BBC all the hostages must be saved.

"They're our brothers and sisters. We want to heal again. We want to stop the war, stop the pain and heal again," Shulamit said.

Many in the crowd yelled "Thank you, Trump!" - but also booed when Witkoff mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking just afterward, the couple said they were angry at him over the failure to prevent the 7 October attack, the war and the failure to bring the hostages home sooner.

"He wants to continue the war only because he wants to stay prime minister," David said.

In Gaza, Hamas has called up thousands of fighters to reassert control over areas of Gaza recently vacated by Israeli troops, according to local sources.

The Hamas mobilisation had been widely anticipated amid growing uncertainty about who will govern Gaza once the war ends and fears of internal violence. There have also been reports of armed clashes between Hamas and Gaza clans.

Displaced Palestinians have continued to move north in Gaza in large numbers, in many cases arriving to find their homes destroyed.

"There is no house anymore. Everything is gone," lawyer Mosa Aldous said over the phone from Gaza City.

Raja Salmi, 52, told AFP she reached Gaza City's Rimal neighbourhood to find her home also gone.

"I stood before it and cried. All those memories are now just dust," she said.

Under the terms of the ceasefire and hostage release deal, the amount of aid entering Gaza is due to be scaled up but the World Food Programme (WFP) told the BBC that a surge of aid lorries had "not yet" entered Gaza, reporting only two to three lorries entering the territory daily.

With full access, WFP, a UN agency, said it intended to restore its regular food distribution system, boosting aid through 145 distribution points across Gaza.

Cogat, the Israeli military body overseeing the entry of aid into Gaza, said 500 trucks had entered on Thursday of which around 300 were distributed inside Gaza by the UN and other organisations.

A recent report by the world's leading hunger monitor Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), backed by the UN, estimated that 500,000 people in Gaza - a quarter of the territory's population - were suffering from famine.

Israel has repeatedly denied that starvation is taking place in Gaza, and Netanyahu has said that where there is hunger, it is the fault of aid agencies and Hamas.

About 1,200 people were killed and 251 taken hostage in the Hamas attack on 7 October 2023 on southern Israel.

Israel responded by launching a military offensive that has killed more than 67,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

Palestinian Prisoners Freed, Israeli Captives Return; Trump Addresses Knesse

The historic ceasefire between Israel and Hamas has seen the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli jails, coinciding with the return of all 20 living Israeli captives from Gaza. Crowds in Ramallah and Gaza welcomed the freed Palestinians with cheers, hugs, and Palestinian flags, while families of released Israeli captives expressed immense relief. Palestinian academic Basil Farraj highlighted the harsh conditions endured by prisoners in Israel, noting, “They have been brutally beaten, tortured and violated… the release does not mean the end of the struggle.” Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump arrived in Israel, calling the day “a great and beautiful day. A new beginning,” and praising Qatar’s role in facilitating the agreement. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also welcomed the deal as “a historical milestone,” pledging EU support for Gaza’s reconstruction and governance reform.

Despite the celebratory mood, questions remain over the broader peace process. Analysts caution that the Trump-led initiative only addresses the prisoner exchange and ceasefire, without a comprehensive plan for lasting peace. Mohamad Elmasry of the Doha Institute noted, “We do not have any outline for a broad peace… there’s no discussion about the Israeli blockade on Gaza or any structural roots of this conflict.” Families of some Palestinian prisoners face uncertainty about exile or relocation, while Israeli authorities continue operations in the West Bank. As the Sharm el-Sheikh summit approaches, leaders including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Netanyahu (potentially) are set to discuss the ceasefire’s implementation and the future of Gaza.

The adda of barelvis and deoband in India no protest in India.

No protest in any of the camel jockey countries who have the biggest stake in this issue and Palestinians are their arab kin. They could have opened the border and even repatriated every palestinian women or child yet they didn't.

No protest In iran the one who was hamas main supporter in this suicidal venture against Israel a few chitar by Israeli airforce and have gone all quiet and their mullah went in basement and started crying .

Gaza ceasefire: all living Israeli hostages freed as Trump heads to Egypt for summit

All 20 remaining living Israeli hostages have been released by Hamas after more than two years in captivity in Gaza.

Hostages were handed over to the Red Cross before finally rejoining their families with the help of the Israeli army.

Hamas had allowed some of the hostages to make video calls home on Monday morning before their release.

Great achievement’: El-Sisi thanks Trump for Gaza ceasefire

Egypt’s leader Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has praised US President Donald Trump for bringing about the Gaza ceasefire.

While sitting beside his US counterpart in the resort town of Sharm el-Sheikh, el-Sisi expressed his belief that only Trump was “capable of making peace”.

The Egyptian president also praised him on behalf of his compatriots and all “peace-loving people” for what he described as a “great achievement”.

The task now is to ensure the Gaza ceasefire holds, he added.

After he finished speaking, Trump shook el-Sisi’s hand saying, “He’s a good man. We’re with him all the way. He played a very important role. I appreciate it very much.”

Trump described el-Sisi as a powerful leader who keeps crime down in Egypt.

He told Al Jazeera correspondent Tareq Abu Azzoum that most of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails are tortured more than once a day.

Inmates were fired at by Israeli troops with rubber-coated bullets and because of that, he had “deep wounds around his private parts and back”. Many detainees were also electrocuted, he added.

“We were detained in a slaughterhouse,” he said.

Speaking at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in southern Gaza after being freed, he said the Palestinians of Gaza remain “brave and steadfast”.

“We have sacrificed a lot, but our sacrifices are too little compared to others,” the man said.

He thanked “God, the Palestinian people, and the resistance fighters in Gaza” for securing his release.
