Lancashire opening batsman Keaton Jennings has replaced Mark Stoneman in England’s squad for the second NatWest #NoBoundaries Test match against Pakistan, starting on Friday at Emerald Headingley.

England second Test squad

Joe Root (Yorkshire) Captain

Jimmy Anderson (Lancashire)

Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire) Wicketkeeper

Dom Bess (Somerset)

Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire)

Jos Buttler (Lancashire)

Alastair Cook (Essex)

Keaton Jennings (Lancashire)

Dawid Malan (Middlesex)

Ben Stokes (Durham)

Chris Woakes (Warwickshire)

Mark Wood (Durham)

Jennings, 25, returns to the Test squad for the first time since August last year, when he played in the series victory over South Africa. Since joining Lancashire at the start of this season, the left-handed batsman has averaged 43.79 in the Specsavers County Championship Division One, accumulating 314 runs and scoring two centuries.

National selector, Ed Smith, said:

“Keaton Jennings showed a strong temperament in scoring a hundred on his Test match debut against India in December 2016. Keaton has found good form in county cricket this season, including three centuries in his last seven innings (two in the First Division of the County Championship, one in the Royal London One-Day Cup).

"Mark Stoneman misses out at Emerald Headingley. Mark has experienced a disappointing start to the 2018 season and had a difficult Test match at Lord’s.”

England will report to Leeds on Wednesday and will be aiming to draw the series having lost the first Test at Lord’s by nine wickets.

So it's between Woakes or Wood, after Woakes's performance against Pakistan last time around, should be a no brainer.

Mr. Jennings may perform superb against India.

But playing a‘gainst Pakistan is a whole different story.

Welcome Keaton!

As expected.Stoneman has done pretty poorly.

It would have been a bit tough to drop Bess after 1 match.

Jennings got humilated by Philander. Abbas is of that mould if not the same quality

Sort of amazing that England have not been able to find a decent opener

I worry about Woakes though. He will probably destroy us again, and he offers a fair bit with the bat as well.

Would be fun to see Abbas bowling him in the first over. Then Cook as well. That’s two easy wickets

Jennings struggled big time against philander.
Let's hope he worked on his flaws because abbas would cause similar troubles.

Should have poached Aiden Markram instead of Keaton Jennings. Is Roland Jones injured?

Looks like Woakes will replace Wood. Worried about Woakes, he's a really good bowler as well as batsman. He was probably their best player against us in 2016. Keaton Jennings, not too worried about him tbh, he didn't have a great technique, hopefully Abbas will nip him out early.

Was very surprised that Woakes didn't play in the first Test but then again England played an offie who clearly isn't good enough to trouble teams who face such standard of spinners at home regularly.
