PCB Chairman told Mickey Arthur to keep challenging the players in terms of their performances.

He also backed Sarfaraz as captain and wants to give him every opportunity to become a good leader.

Good work.
That's all that can happen mid tour really.
Mickey can put pressure on him which may or may not lead to a resignation at the end of the tour

Anything more on this, any sound bites?

This is the first consequential thing that Mani has done so far. It’s absolutely the right move

Sarfaraz has been given too much patience to be honest all this while

Sarfraz has been given a lot of confidence, despite being a lame duck in terms of performance. He needs to repay the faith, big time.

This was the only option right now. Just hope we dont see Shafiq in the next game

If I was Sarfraz, my BP would be 10x higher knowing that the PCB Chairman had to come to SA due to the teams’ performance.

And not with roses either.

Mark my words, watch Sarfraz in the upcoming test. He will do something special.

Here to point out that when we toured with Misbah and Younis in South Africa in 2014 we were blown away for under 50 in our first game.
The difference between us and South Africa in this game was inches, not miles

A loss is still a loss at the end of the day. This is a weak SA batting line up which batted below par, they will not have an off game again

And yes supposedly we had a stronger batting lineup. I feel bullish about our chances.

Agreed. Our first innings was crucial, a decision here and there maybe 20-30 runs here and there as well and who knows.

Not to mention we were cruising pretty easy before Oliviera’s burst.

Not sure what else people think Mani should do in middle of a tour!

Sarfraz’s days are numbered as PAK Captain - definitely as Test Captain, probably LOs as well. Had WC not been 6 months later, I would have used definitely for LOs as well.

The clue is given in OP it self. PCB Chairman doesn’t need to tell Head coach to challenge players, for better performance- he did utter that to make sure that the point is noted, after the lick out of dressing room bust up, it was required. And, he indeed is supposed to back PAK Captain.

If Mani does not sack Sarfraz AFTER the tour ends, it'd just add to a list of blunders made by him so far.

Need to back Mickey.

People are looking too much into the so-called competitiveness of the game. South Africa were only 1 down in the fourth innings with 10 runs to chase. On a green wicket, it is a proper drubbing.

The few cheap wickets that we got after the South African batsmen checked out means nothing.

Thanks for your usual neagtive outlook and false narrative attached to anything Pakistani.
It was by no means a stunning in fact we were in a very good position several times and due to lack of mental strength by some senior players we handed the match to South Africa. If the referee did not overturn the catch for which he had no reason to do so as image was not conclusive to overturn umpires decision, and Fakhar held to the catch, South Africa would have been in deep trouble. All that despite using only three pace bowlers in both innings, due to blunder of selecting Yasir .

There are always ifs and buts. If this happened, if that happened, if that didn’t happen etc. etc., but the fact is that that South Africa were only 1/2 down with 10-15 runs to go. That is by all accounts a thrashing, especially on a green pitch.

Pakistan lost the game in the first innings when all the frontline batsmen (minus Babar) were back in the pavilion for 80 odd.

No the fact is south africa were 4 down by the end

its inconsequential what they were with with 10-15 runs to go just as its inconsequential pakistan were leading 60-1 in their 2nd innings

only the scorecard matters in the end

Ifs and buts... ONLY IF dean elgar was out BUT not .given out, this COULD could have chsnged the game. Yes you're right if and buts and we all know south africa.choke big time

A little reminder to the players and captain of their responsibilities and what is expected of them.

Also a little nudge to the skipper - perform or we will replace you.

And also Pak could have easily won even after conceding the small lead. So they were in the match in second inning with Imam and Shan going strong.

Since Ehsan Mani has replaced Sethi Pakistan team has gone nowhere but down.

His appointments[who have a bias against foreign inducted staff] have only added more pressure to people like Coach Arthur who is more sincere.

Pakistan Govt. should also review Ehsan Mani's performance also. His backing and no criticism of the chief selector Inzamam ul Haq nepotism and cronyism is a huge concern. Inzamam is the main responsible for the batting devastation of Pakistan team for last 2 years. The selectors have been a hurdle to new batting talent themselves and have consolidated senior and certain favorites positions without them performing.

Babar Azam is suppose to bat up the order, he has been pushed down to 5th position just to keep him in the team. Chief selector has slipped in his nephew who is a walking wicket. Seniors perform is a bonus, if they don't perform they get selected for next tour anyways. Players warming the benches are thrown without getting a game [Asif Zakir,Saad Ali,etc.. ]

Can't blame Sarfraz and Arthur only, who have not been provided with a solid batting resources.

Chairman Ehsan Mani needs to face some authority for his quiet support for crony selection committee.

The thing is no one deliberately plays bad, and this is not the old Pak team under Mickey and Azhar they are training hard, but they are mentally weak and take too much pressure especially the swniortrio of Azhar Asad and Sarfraz, add tailenders too when batting bar Mohd Amir.

Please Ehsan Mani has hardly had time to influence anything. His appointment would only Help and calm Pak jazbati and bias management.

NO one is asking Sarfraz to be sacked mid-tour but after the tour he will have no business in playing for Pakistan, enough is enough.

He has had plenty of time.

He entered the PCB office on 4 September but he had started meetings with different officials in the last week of August.

Mani is now 100 days plus without showing anything substantial. His policy either has been to carry forward the previous garbage accumulated by Sethi or go slow. The only change is there is no marketing staff who resigned themselves.

The MD he nominated is suppose to start in February which is another 2 months late. He has not shown anywhere he is interested to take the problem head on. He has slowed down everything.

Administratively, the recently organized Natl. T20 Cup was a huge disappointment cricketing and telecast wise. Players participating in Quaid e Azam trophy complained about the facilities and the situation of the stadiums. He is neither made any changes or taken firm decisions. On issue of T10 participation he backed off and gave NoCs to players.

His appointed cricketing committee has shaken the confidence of the team also. Mickey Arthur, Sarfraz, Zaman look in a lot of pressure compared to cheif selector Inzamam, his nephew Imam, Shan Masood, etc..

Media and social media were up in flames when Chief selector announced the team in a hurry just before the start of Pakistan's 2nd innings in last Test against New Zealand. Which means they knew beforehand that team is going to collapse again and the players selected are all those failures pushing Paksitan team down. Yet no action or even a word on the selectors behaviour.
