Elephant in the room part 2 - MS Dhoni

Have written in multiple other threads. History will repeat itself.

Before 2015 WC, Dhoni retired mid-way in a test series in Australia.

Before 2019 WC, he will be forced to retire from ODIs and T20s. Even his mafia empire of pliable experts, mediamen and PR agents will not be able to save his career.

I dont understand why Dhoni continues to play especially since i believe he himself caused many of the earlier feet-draggers to retire when he took over. But in any case, i think it is a case of Virat Kohli not being strong enough to boot him out - if the captain makes up his mind, Dhoni would be forced to go.

If he ends up playing the WC, expect a Miandad like finish to happen.

From the looks of it he might play the world cup. 2023 World Cup in India.

Dhoni is a disgrace who himself used to kick out seniors during his time as captain.

His fan following is just too much.
Kohli, rohit etc are all his followers. Ravi shashtri treats him as a deity.
I don't think anyone can force him to retire.
I was once of the opinion that he is the most
selfless player, coz he never gave importance to his centuries and sacrificed his batting position but now he has proved me wrong.

Dhoni has become so selfish over last 3 years that it beggars belief that is he the same Dhoni who once kicked out seniors like Dravid, Ganguly from Indian ODI team on account them being additional to India's requirements!

No one is above the greed of money and fame - you can say all you want to say, once someone tasted these two, they do not want to let go.

Kicked out the likes of Sehwag, Gambhir, Dravid, Laxman from ODI team..... Now when his turn came, he wants to play till he is 50.

That is where Kohli made a mistake. Dhoni was shrewd and asked for kicking out Ganguly, Dravid, Sehwag within 3 months of becoming captain. As the T20 WC was afresh, he had his way in ending Ganguly and Dravid’s ODI careers.

Kohli should have done the same by throwing Dhoni out by end of 2015 for building a young team.

It will be bad for him and his team if he decides to retire just before CWC 19.

Should retire now or play the WC 19. And hope he performs.

Always liked him, over the years he has brought the best out of some mediocre bowlers. Good WK, good striker, calm under preassure, excellent captain. With age the reflexes have slowed down naturally but his experience is gold to have. But with so much IPL most of the Indian players can handle preassure really well.

Do you remember the last time he played a match winning innings outside Asia? Or contributed majorly Ina 300+ chase anywhere? I don’t.

He was a legend and has overstayed by at least 3 years. Only hing in his favour right now is his great fitness, rest all positive stories are PRdrives by his media agents.

With 2007 WC humiliation , public opinion on Ganguly, Dravid , Laxman was at an all time low so it was probably easier to force them to retire from ODIs.

Whereas I think.public opinion on Dhoni is still very positive with the huge success of his film so its probably harder to give him a nudge at this stage for BCCI?

Just a theory, one the basis of his performances he should have retired a year back...

I know he needs to retire and is a shadow of his former self. But I can’t help to have a soft spot for him.

We need a chief selector of some standing. Someone like Vengsarkar in early 2008 did not gesitate to drop Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman while despite being new in his role, Srikanth had no qualms in nudging Dada to retirement in Oct 2008.

Current bunch has no identity or stature of their own. Peraps would not hurt to go back to Vengsarkar as chief selector to counter balance Kohli-Shastri. Despite the risk of Mumbai mafia getting stronger, he will be much better than MSK.
