A 24-year-old migrant woman from Assam was allegedly gangraped by three men in Tamil Nadu's Thoothukudi after she and her husband decided to quit work at a brick unit. Her husband was assaulted during the incident.

A 24-year-old migrant woman from Assam was allegedly gangraped by three men from the same state in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, while her husband was assaulted.

The woman and her husband had been brought from Assam by the main accused to work at a brick manufacturing unit.

The couple later decided to quit the job and leave the workplace.

According to the complaint, after learning about their decision, the main accused allegedly brought two other men in an auto to prevent the couple from leaving. He also accused them of a payment-related issue and attempted to stop them from exiting the area.

The complaint further stated that the woman was taken in the auto to a secluded location, where she was allegedly gangraped, while her husband was assaulted.

A case has been registered against the three accused men in connection with the incident.

In another incident from November, a college student in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by three men near the city’s international airport after her friend was attacked. The incident prompted the formation of special police teams to track down the suspects.

Police reportedly shot and arrested the three accused after they attempted to flee, with all three taken to hospital with injuries.

Tamil Nadu college student gang raped by 3 men near airport, accused on the run

A college student in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore was allegedly gang raped by three men who abducted her after attacking her friend near the Airport area on Sunday night. Police have formed seven special teams to nab them.

A 19-year-old college student was allegedly gang raped by three men behind the Airport area in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore on Sunday night.

Police said the victim was with her friend in a car when the men approached them, attacked her friend, abducted her, and fled the spot.

The friend immediately alerted the authorities, following which police launched a search operation and found the woman unconscious. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Police have formed seven special teams to trace and arrest the culprits.

Reacting to the incident, former Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai said the case reflects the DMK government’s failure to ensure women’s safety. In a post on X, he called the assault “deeply shocking” and wished for the survivor’s speedy recovery.

He wrote, “Since the DMK government came to power in Tamil Nadu, incidents like this series of crimes against women clearly show that anti-social elements have absolutely no fear of the law or the police.”

Annamalai further alleged that there is a “clear tendency to protect sexual offenders” within the ruling dispensation and accused the DMK government of using the police to target critics instead of maintaining public safety. He said Chief Minister MK Stalin “should hang his head in shame” over the deteriorating law and order situation.

In another incident from February this year, seven college students were arrested under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for allegedly sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl.

The students, studying at a private college in Kuniyamuthur, had befriended the minor through a social media app. When she failed to return home after meeting one of them, her family filed a missing complaint.

The girl was later found and alleged that she had been assaulted by the students. Police arrested all seven and placed them under judicial custody.

India top court orders ex-lawmaker to stay in jail over rape

India's Supreme Court has put on hold a controversial order that had suspended the life sentence of a former lawmaker convicted of raping a teenager.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar, formerly of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was found guilty in 2019 under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.

But last week, the Delhi high court suspended his sentence and granted him conditional bail - although Sengar remained in jail in a separate case related to the death of the survivor's father.

The high court order sparked outrage and protests, including from the survivor and her mother.

The crime against the 17-year-old in Uttar Pradesh state's Unnao district was one of the most horrific in India in recent years.

The survivor, who can't be named under Indian laws, alleged that she had approached Sengar for a job in June 2017 and was kidnapped and raped for more than a week by him and others.

Her ordeal first came to national attention in 2018 - a year after the assault - when she tried to set herself on fire, alleging police inaction.

At the time, Sengar was an influential politician from the BJP, which was in power in the state as well as at the national level. The party later expelled him.

Months before Sengar's conviction in December 2019, the woman survived a suspicious car crash that killed two of her aunts and seriously injured her lawyer.

The family also accused Sengar and his men of assaulting the woman's father in April 2018. Police charged five men over the attack but also arrested her father for illegal firearms possession. He later died in prison.

In March 2020, Sengar was found guilty of culpable homicide and given a 10-year-jail sentence.

The suspension of Sengar's life term had led to protests, including by the survivor and her mother

The high court's decision last week to free Sengar in the rape case was based on whether the assault could be considered "aggravated" or not.

According to the Pocso Act, an assault becomes aggravated and attracts more stringent punishment if it is committed by someone in a "position of trust or authority" - such as a public servant or a police officer inside a police station, members of the security forces or a hospital or jail staff.

Sengar's lawyers had argued that he was a legislator which was not included in the list of public servants under this law.

The Delhi High Court accepted their argument, noting that without aggravated assault, the law mandates a minimum seven-year sentence - which Sengar had already served. It suspended his sentence and granted bail, sparking nationwide outrage.

The survivor, her family, and activists protested at Delhi's India Gate, with the woman saying she feared for her life if Sengar were released.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which had investigated the case, challenged the high court's decision in the Supreme Court, arguing that Sengar, as an elected legislator, is a public servant holding a "constitutional position of trust and authority."

On Monday, the Supreme Court stayed the high court order until it heard the case.

A bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant said the top court usually did not stay a bail order without hearing the convict or the under-trial.

But in this case, they were doing so because "here are peculiar facts and circumstances since convict is also sentenced for the culpable homicide of the survivor's father and he is in custody in that case".

'Nothing Will Happen To Me': Satna BJP Councillor's Husband Accused Of Rape As Threat Video Goes Viral

A local BJP councillor's husband was caught on camera threatening a woman who has accused him of sexually assaulted her months earlier. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for action against the accused.

A BJP councillor's husband in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district has been accused of raping a woman at knifepoint, recording the assault, and later using the video to threaten and coerce her.
The case drew widespread outrage after a video recorded by the survivor went viral showing the accused claiming that he was untouchable.
In the viral clip, the accused is allegedly heard telling the survivor, "What will happen to me? Nothing will happen. Complain wherever you want, nothing will happen to me," as the woman sobs and speaks about approaching the police. Times Now cannot independently verify the authenticity of the video.

(He is the husband of a BJP councillor in Satna, a criminal... he is threatening the rape victim, abusing the police but is roaming around freely.)

According to the survivor's written complaint, the alleged rape took place around six months ago. She said she stayed silent due to repeated threats to her life and the safety of her family.

Following the complaint, the case was transferred to Satna Deputy Superintendent of Police Manoj Trivedi.
The woman alleged that Singh, a resident of Karhi, entered her house, raped her at knifepoint, filmed the act on his mobile phone, and warned her of dire consequences if she spoke out.
She further claimed that on December 20, he approached her again, molested her, and renewed his threats, demanding that she comply or face public humiliation through the release of the video.
The survivor told police that Singh frequently visits her shop, abuses her verbally, and continues to intimidate her.
Police officials said Singh was booked late Saturday night for threatening and misbehaving with the woman after the video surfaced.

Congress Reacts

The Congress reacted to the video, writing on X: "This is BJP's cunning, character, and face."

(In Madhya Pradesh, a BJP leader accused of rape is threatening the victim to go and make a video, no one can harm me.This is BJP leader Ashok Singh. He raped the victim at knifepoint and filmed the video. Now, he is pressuring her to have sex with him by threatening to make the video viral. This video shows that this despicable BJP leader has the full protection of the government, on the basis of which he is openly threatening the rape victim.Narendra Modi and his party have created a gang of rapists, criminals, and fraudsters across the country. BJP leader Ashok Singh is a member of this gang. This is the conduct, character and face of BJP.)

The party added: "This video shows that this vile BJP leader has the full protection of the government, which is why he's openly threatening the rape victim."

The BJP is yet to respond on the matter.

Woman raped, killed by UP couple posing as employers, remains found in suitcase

When a woman's decomposed skeleton was found in a suitcase at NH-9 fields in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur, Police were thrown into a tizzy. However, a missing FIR in Delhi's Vivek Vihar police station gave them the first lead to uncover the horrific crime...Read more to know how...

The ghastly crime against a woman who was allegedly raped and brutally murdered came haunting for the accused three months after she was murdered and her skeleton was found in suitcase near National Highway-9 in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Simdega district in Jharkhand. A man accused of raping her, brutally assaulting her to death in August, and dumping the body in a field has been arrested along with his wife, after the woman’s skeleton, packed inside a suitcase was discovered on December 1 in a sugarcane field under the Pilkhuwa police station area in Hapur district.

The body was highly decomposed, making identification initially difficult. Given the seriousness of the case, the local police worked with the district SWAT team to investigate.

The accused have been identified as Ankit Kumar, a resident of Nawada Kalan village in Hapur’s Simbhawali area, and his wife Kalista alias Kali, a native of Simdega, Jharkhand. The couple allegedly ran a racket in which poor and vulnerable young women from Jharkhand were brought to Delhi-NCR on the pretext of domestic work and then illegally confined and exploited.

Police said Ankit sexually assaulted the woman after bringing her to Delhi for work and recorded obscene videos to blackmail her. When Sonia threatened to approach the police, the couple allegedly beat her with sticks on the night of August 27, killing her.

ACCUSED USED SPRAY TO SUPPRESS SMELL

The body was kept inside their rented accommodation for two days, during which they used spray to suppress the smell, before being packed into a suitcase.

On the night of August 29, Ankit allegedly hired an autorickshaw and dumped the suitcase in a field near NH-9, opposite Rama Hospital, before fleeing to Delhi. The remains were recovered three months later.

The breakthrough came after investigators traced a missing woman’s report in Delhi’s Vivek Vihar police station. A domestic worker informed police that she had witnessed the murder and was later threatened and sexually assaulted by the accused to silence her and shift the blame.

Additional Superintendent of Police Vineet Bhatnagar said the joint operation by Pilkhuwa police and the district SWAT team led to the successful arrest of the husband-wife duo. Police recovered the murder weapon, three mobile phones containing incriminating videos, and other evidence from their possession.

Both accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.

This is not to make it a competition about rapes. Even 1 rape is too many rapes. This is just to open the usual clowns that worry so much about Indian women that they have no time to report rapes in their own countries they much seem to be higher than India. :clown

Basically India has 2.2 to 4.9 reported rapes per 100k women

Pakistan has 0.3 to 3.7 reported rapes per 100k women

Bangladesh has 8 to 9.82 rapes per 100k women

But Saar!! Our countries are best Saar! India is a dangerous place for women Saar! :dw :dw

Following the investigation, the police arrested the main accused and two persons who operated the cafe.
The girl belonged to the Dalit community, went missing, triggering tension. Her family approached the police, telling the latter about what happened. The police registered a case and launched an investigation. Following this, the officials traced the girl within hours, reported news agency PTI.

Delhi Girl Who Ran From Home At 14, Sold Into Marriage, Dies

The Delhi Police had recorded the girl's statement when she was undergoing treatment at the GTB Hospital has now registered an FIR in the matter.

New Delhi:
She left her home at the age of 14 after a family dispute and ended up living on the street, picking rags to survive before being sold into marriage with a man from Rajasthan. But her ordeal came to light when she landed at a Delhi hospital, where she died after a 40-day battle for life.

The Delhi Police had recorded the girl's statement when she was undergoing treatment at the GTB Hospital has now registered an FIR in the matter, police sources said.

"Initially, we got to know that the girl, a resident of Dayalpur area had left her house after dispute with her family members last year. Her family members had never lodged a missing person report or approached the police," a police officer said, adding that she began living on the streets and picked rags to survive.

On October 24, a passerby noticed the girl lying in a critical condition in Haryana's Panipat and alerted the police. She was first taken to a local police station in Panipat and later shifted to Delhi, where she was admitted to GTB Hospital for treatment.

"She was extremely malnourished and suffering from multiple health complications when she was brought to the hospital," the officer said.

The source said after receiving information from the hospital, a team from the police station reached and recorded the statement of the girl.

She had levelled allegation that she was sold and forcibly married to a man in Rajasthan and she somehow managed to escape from there and eventually ended up in Haryana, the police source said.

"Despite sustained medical care, she could not recover and died on December 12," the source said.

"We have registered an FIR and have launched further investigation into the matter. The role of the parents and guardians is also under scrutiny. We are verifying claims made by relatives and examining whether there was any cruelty or abandonment that contributed to the condition," the source added.

Medical records and post-mortem findings have been sought to establish the exact cause of death, which is believed to be linked to prolonged illness and extreme weakness.

A mother-of-three was gang-raped for more than two hours inside a moving van before being thrown onto the road in India, police have said.

The horrific attack took place overnight from Monday into Tuesday after the married woman was waiting for transport to return home in Faridabad, near Delhi.

According to police, a van stopped and two young men lured the woman inside after promising to drop her home.

Instead, the vehicle was driven towards Gurgaon Road, where she was allegedly raped repeatedly.

The woman is believed to have been held inside the van for around two-and-a-half hours, during which time the attackers continued to assault her and threatened her when she tried to resist.

At around 3am, she was thrown out of the moving vehicle near Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar, suffering severe facial injuries. She was left bleeding heavily at the roadside.

The victim repeatedly tried to call her sister.

When her sister returned the call and realised what had happened, family members rushed to the scene and took the woman to hospital, where she was admitted in a critical condition.

Doctors later applied 10 to 12 stitches to her face.

While her condition is now stable, police said the woman remains in a state of shock and has not yet been able to give a formal statement.

In her complaint, the victim’s sister said the woman had called her the evening before the attack, at around 8.30pm, saying she had argued with her mother and was going to stay at a friend’s house.

She told her sister she would return home within three hours.

The woman, who has three children, is married but lives separately from her husband due to a domestic dispute.

Police confirmed that both suspects have been arrested and that the van used in the attack has been recovered. An investigation is ongoing.

Class 10 boy rapes junior, forces her to steal mother's jewellery in UP

A Class 10 student in UP's Firozabad was arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a Class 8 girl. The two became friends, and during their interactions, the boy allegedly clicked her photos in compromising situations.

A Class 10 student in Firozabad has been arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a Class 8 girl and stealing jewellery worth over 1.5 lakh from her house after taking her objectionable photos.

According to police, the incident began six months ago in the South police station area, where the boy saw the girl dancing at a wedding. The two became friends, and during their interactions, the boy allegedly clicked her photos in compromising situations. The two would speak daily on mobile phone, and using the photos, the accused reportedly manipulated the girl into stealing her mother’s gold jewellery.

Police said the minor girl handed over jewellery valued at more than Rs 1.5 lakh to the accused, who kept it with him. The boy had also recorded intimate photos and videos of the girl and used them to blackmail her, officials added.

When the jewellery went missing, the girl’s family grew suspicious and questioned her strictly. The girl confessed that she had taken the ornaments and given them to another youth at the accused boy’s behest. The family then approached the police.

A case was registered, and the police arrested the Class 10 student. The stolen ornaments were also recovered from his possession.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Ravishankar Prasad said further inquiry is underway. He urged parents and guardians to monitor their children's mobile activities and keep a close watch on their friend circles.

Rape, Murders, Cannibalism: What Happened At Noida’s ‘House Of Horrors’ - A Timeline

After 19 years, the Supreme Court acquitted Surender Koli in the 2006 Nithari killings, citing a lack of evidence.

The Nithari killings case, which shook the conscience of the entire nation in 2006, was officially closed after the prime accused, Surender Koli, was acquitted by the Supreme Court on Monday in the absence of “the identity of the actual perpetrator”.
The SC bench headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai, while acquitting Koli, observed, “The offences in Nithari were heinous, and the suffering of the families is beyond measure. It is a matter of deep regret that despite prolonged investigation, the identity of the actual perpetrator has not been established in a manner that meets legal standards. Criminal law does not permit conviction on conjecture or on a hunch. Suspicion, however grave, cannot replace proof beyond a reasonable doubt.”

The court, however, said: "We are mindful of finality. We are equally mindful that curative relief is exceptional and proceeds on narrow grounds. The present case crosses that exacting threshold."

The case became the topic of ‘horror discussions’ in every household when human remains were found in a drain outside a home in Noida Sector 31 in 2006. The case involved the killings of several children and young girls and included charges like rape, murder, and cannibalism. For 19 years, there were petitions, counter-petitions, acquittals, and convictions, but the case ended in disappointment for the relatives of the victims, who are left with nothing but a question: ‘Who killed their children?’

A complete timeline of Noida's

December 29, 2006
A gunny bag was found in Noida Sector 31, containing 16 human skulls, skeletal remains, and fragments of clothes behind bungalow number D-5, adjacent to Nithari village.

December 30, 2006
The police found more skeletons. Later, five policemen were suspended for mishandling the investigation after some parents alleged that they had complained almost two years ago about their missing children.

January 11, 2007
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation and filed 16 charge sheets. Koli was charge sheeted in all the cases for murder, besides other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). While Pandher was charged in only a single case under the provisions of the Immoral Trafficking Act.

February 13, 2009
Koli and Pandher were awarded the death penalty in the first Nithari case by the Ghaziabad court.

May 12, 2010
Koli was awarded the death penalty in the second case related to the abduction, rape, and murder of an eight-year-old girl.

2010 to 2012
In these three years, Koli was awarded the death penalty in three more cases.

Jan 16, 2021
Koli was awarded the death penalty in the 12th Nithari case related to the murder of a 20-year-old domestic help, while Pandher was acquitted. Later, in March, Koli was acquitted by the Ghaziabad court in a case related to the destruction of evidence, abduction, attempted rape, and murder of a 10-year-old girl. This was the first case in which Koli was acquitted.

May 03, 2024
In October 2023, the Allahabad High Court acquitted Koli and Pandher. Later on May 3, 2024, the Supreme Court issued a notice on a plea against the acquittal of the accused.

July 30, 2025
The Supreme Court commenced hearing on the appeal in April 2025, and on July 30, the apex court rejected 14 appeals against the Allahabad High Court verdict acquitting the accused. Later on October 7, the Supreme Court reserved its verdict on Koli's curative petition challenging his conviction and death sentence in one of the cases.

On Monday, a bench comprising Chief Justice BR Gavai and Justices Surya Kant and Vikram Nath delivered an assessment of the investigation and the trial process. The Supreme Court allowed Koli's curative petition.
According to the officials, Koli and Pandher, who were awarded death sentences on the charges of rape and murder, have been acquitted due to a lack of evidence. Now, their death sentences stand cancelled after the court's verdict.

'Kaal For Us': Unnao Rape Survivor To Move SC Against Suspension of Kuldeep Sengar's Jail Term

HC decision like 'kaal (death)' for us, will challenge order in the Supreme Court, said Unnao rape case survivor on suspension of Kuldeep Sengar's jail term.

A day after the Delhi High Court suspended the jail term of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the 2017 Unnao rape case, the rape survivor termed the decision "kaal (death)" for her family. The Unnao rape case survivor on Wednesday said that she would move the Supreme Court against the High Court order.
Reacting to the verdict, the survivor, who was a minor when she was kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017, told PTI over phone from Delhi that security for her family members, lawyers and witnesses had already been withdrawn and the court's decision had deepened her fears.

"If the convict gets bail in cases like this, how will the country's daughters remain safe? For us, this decision is no less than 'kaal' (death)," she said. "Those with money win, those without money lose," she rued.

The Unnao rape case and other connected cases were transferred from Uttar Pradesh to Delhi on the directions of the Supreme Court in August 2019.

Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday suspended the jail term Sengar, saying he has already served seven years and five months in prison. Sengar's sentence has been suspended by the high court till the pendency of his appeal challenging his conviction and sentence in the rape case. He has challenged a December 2019 trial court verdict in the case.
He will, however, remain in jail since he is also serving 10 years' imprisonment in the custodial death case of the victim's father and has not been granted bail in that case.
The bench of Delhi High Court Justices Subramonium Prasad and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar directed Sengar to furnish a personal bond of Rs 15 lakh with three sureties of the like amount.
It also directed him not to come within a five-km radius of the victim's residence in Delhi and not to threaten her or her mother. "Violation of any of the conditions would lead to cancellation of bail," the high court said.
About the victim's apprehension about danger to her life, the court said it expects that she will continue to get CRPF cover. Furthermore, he was also asked by the high court to deposit his passport with the trial court and to report to the local police station every Monday at 10 am.

Unnao rape case: CBI to move Supreme Court challenging suspension of Kuldeep Sengar's life sentence

Unnao rape case: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday suspended the jail term of expelled BJP leader Sengar, who was serving life imprisonment in the 2017 Unnao rape case, saying he has already served seven years and five months in prison.

New Delhi:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will immediately challenge the suspension of the life sentence and the grant of bail to former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the 2017 Unnao rape case before the Supreme Court, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday, citing officials. The decision was taken after the agency examined the order passed by a division bench of the Delhi High Court in the case.

A CBI spokesperson said it has been decided to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court at the earliest against the high court’s order, which suspended Sengar’s life sentence and granted him bail.

Sengar had moved the high court challenging his life imprisonment, a plea that was strongly opposed by both the CBI and the victim's family. "The CBI filed timely replies and written arguments in this matter. The family of the victim has also opposed the petition, citing safety and threats. The CBI will immediately challenge this order," the statement said.

On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court suspended Sengar's life sentence in the rape case and granted him bail while his appeal against the December 2019 conviction remains pending. While allowing the relief, the court imposed strict conditions, directing Sengar not to enter a 5-kilometre radius of the survivor’s residence or intimidate her or her mother, warning that any violation would result in automatic cancellation of bail.

However, Sengar will continue to remain behind bars as he is also serving a 10-year sentence in the custodial death case of the survivor’s father and has not been granted bail in that matter.

Unnao rape survivor meets Rahul Gandhi

Unnao rape survivor on Wednesday (December 24) met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the national capital. Rahul Gandhi met the rape survivor at his mother Sonia Gandhi's 10, Janpath residence after the woman staged a protest in Delhi against the bail granted by the Delhi High Court to the convict in the case, expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar.

Sonia Gandhi was also present in the meeting. Both of them have promised the Unnao family that they will do everything in their capacity to ensure they get justice and security.

The victim and her family made three key requests to the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. They sought his help in getting a top lawyer to fight against Sengar in the Supreme Court, a request to which Rahul Gandhi assured support. They also asked for assistance in relocating to a Congress-ruled state, citing fears for their lives and lack of confidence in their security. Rahul Gandhi said he would help with this as well. Additionally, the victim’s husband requested help in securing a better job, and Rahul Gandhi said he would look into the matter.

Unnao rape case

The girl was kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor. On March 13, 2020, Sengar was sentenced to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment and was fined Rs 10 lakh in connection with the case of the custodial death of the rape victim's father. The court had also awarded a 10-year jail term to Sengar's brother, Atul Singh Sengar, and five others.

The father of the rape victim was arrested at the behest of Sengar in a case under the Arms Act. He died in custody on April 9, 2018. The rape case and other connected cases were transferred to Delhi from a trial court in Uttar Pradesh on the directions of the Supreme Court on August 1, 2019.

Shooter Gangraped By Friends During Party After Competition; Woman Among the Accused

In Faridabad, three individuals, including a woman, have been arrested following the alleged rape of a 23-year-old female shooter at a hotel. The accused are Satendra, Gaurav, and the shooter’s friend, who were detained after the survivor reported the incident.

Faridabad: Three people, including a woman, have been arrested in Faridabad in connection with the alleged rape of a 23-year-old female shooter at a hotel, police said on Thursday. The accused, identified as Satendra, Gaurav, and the shooter’s female friend, were taken into custody from the hotel premises following a complaint lodged by the survivor.
According to police, the woman had travelled to Faridabad on Tuesday with her friend to participate in a shooting competition. On Wednesday evening, after the event concluded, her friend contacted Gaurav, an acquaintance living in the city, asking him to drop her at a metro station.

Gaurav arrived with his friend Satendra, and the four later decided to stay back in Faridabad and leave the next day, officials said. They booked two rooms at a local hotel, where they gathered for a party in one of the rooms.

Alleged Assault Inside Hotel Room

The survivor alleged that around 9 pm, her friend stepped out with Gaurav to bring some items, leaving her alone in the room with Satendra. It was during this time, she told police, that Satendra raped her.

After her friend returned, the woman informed another acquaintance about the incident. She then locked the accused inside the hotel room and approached the police for help.

Police are examining the role of each accused, including the woman friend, and are collecting evidence from the hotel and surrounding areas. Officials said they are also recording statements and verifying details related to the events leading up to the alleged assault.

Minor Raped, Murdered In Odisha, Locals Demolish Accused's House

Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rout said one accused person was arrested from Jagatsinghpur district.

Bhubaneswar:
A 10-year-old girl was allegedly raped and murdered in Odisha's Bhadrak district, triggering a massive outrage with locals demolishing the accused's house, police said on Wednesday.

Bhadrak Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Rout said one accused person was arrested from Jagatsinghpur district.

Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed deep anguish over the incident, and stressed the need for a thorough and impartial investigation and strict punishment for the culprits as per the law.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the next of family of the victim, and directed officials to ensure proper investigation and "strictest possible punishment" for the accused in accordance with the law.

Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Naveen Patnaik, strongly condemned the incident, saying it has shaken the civilised society to its core.

Opposition parties BJD and Congress separately called a six-hour Chandbali block bandh from 6 am on Thursday in protest against the incident.

The incident came to the fore when some people found the body of the minor near a bush in Baligaon in Chandbali police station area on Tuesday evening, another officer said.

The victim had gone to school on Tuesday morning and when she did not return in the afternoon, her family lodged a police complaint. Hours after a missing case was filed, locals found her body in a pool of blood.

BJD's Chandbali MLA Byomakesh Ray condemned the incident. Angry locals staged a protest in the Chandbali area, while BJD workers demonstrated outside the CM's official residence in Bhubaneswar.

The opposition party accused the BJP government of failing to contain incidents of sexual assaults on women and girls across the state.

As soon as the news about the incident spread, locals hit the streets on Tuesday night. The agitation intensified on Wednesday morning, with protesters blocking roads in at least three places in Chandbali. They also gheraoed the local police station.

When the accused was identified, enraged locals rushed into his house in Rampalli village and demolished it.

"Police arrested the prime accused within 24 hours of the incident," the SP said, adding he has been personally monitoring the case.

Heavy deployment of security forces has been made in the area, with the SP appealing to people not to take the law into their hands.

The governor, in an X post, said, "Hon'ble Governor of Odisha Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati expressed deep anguish over the tragic incident at Chandabali in Bhadrak district, conveying heartfelt condolences and praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul." He stressed the need for a thorough and impartial investigation, strict punishment for the culprits as per law, and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family, the governor added.

The CMO, in an X post, said, "Chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed profound grief over the unprecedented incident at Chandbali in Bhadrak district and offered prayers for the departed soul's eternal peace." "The Hon'ble Chief Minister has directed that the incident be properly investigated and the culprits be awarded the severest possible punishment in accordance with the law, while announcing assistance of 10 lakh rupees from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the next of kin of the victim," it added.

Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who is also in charge of the Women and Child Development Department, said that strict action will be taken.

"The accused involved in the Chandbali case was swiftly arrested. The government is working to prevent such heinous crimes. Social awareness must also be created," she said.

Law Minister Pritihiviraj Harichandan said that police have been given a free hand to take stringent action regarding crimes against women.

"Under the BJP government, accused in such cases are arrested within 48-72 hours. No accused is able to escape arrest. We have full faith that the police will do justice in the Chandbali incident as well," he said.

DIG, eastern range, Pinak Mishra said that a team of doctors are conducting a post-mortem examination and a scientific team is collecting evidence. "We will take the case to its logical conclusion," he said.

BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik, in an X post, said, "It is utterly heinous. It has shaken civilised society to its core. The increasing incidents of such crimes in Odisha, along with the government's utter inaction, have left everyone shaken and terrified." He claimed that the image of Odisha, once renowned for women's safety and strong law and order, is now being tarnished before the entire world.

"While women's safety in the state has deteriorated, the BJP government's indifference is astonishing everyone. Why is the government dragging its feet in taking exemplary steps to ensure a safe environment for all? How many more innocent lives must be lost before the government wakes up? Odisha's mothers and sisters want safety, not the empty fireworks of the double-engine government's false promises," the BJD president said.

Before the situation worsens further, the government must step forward proactively and strictly enforce security measures, he said.

Odisha Congress leaders, at a press conference, strongly criticised the BJP government over crimes against women and asked the saffron party's state president Manmohan Samal to issue a statement on the Chandbali incident.

Samal was the BJP's candidate in Chandbali assembly segment in the 2024 elections.

Bulandshahr gang-rape case: All five convicts sentenced to life imprisonment

The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO) Om Prakash III, who termed the ruling significant in a case that had shocked the district.

LUCKNOW: After nearly nine years of legal proceedings, five convicts of the Bulandshahr NH-91 gang rape case were sentenced to life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1.81 lakh each by the local court on Monday.

Initially, 11 people were named as accused in the case, which pertained to a family that fell victim to brutal atrocities in 2016. Prime accused Salim Bawariya died during the course of the trial in 2019, while two other accused were killed in separate encounters by the STF.

Those who were given lifer on Monday include Zubair and Sajid of Kannauj, and Dharamveer, Naresh and Sunil, residents of Farrukhabad.

After the case was referred to the CBI, during its investigation, it found three accused to be innocent and dropped their names.

The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge (POCSO) Om Prakash III, who termed the ruling significant in a case that had shocked the district.

The court also ordered that the total fine amount be equally distributed between the two rape survivors.

The horrific incident dates back to July 29, 2016, when a family of five was travelling by car from Noida to Shahjahanpur to attend a wedding function.

As they reached near Dostpur village on National Highway-91 under the Bulandshahr Kotwali Dehat area, the attackers threw 'something' on their vehicle.

After one of the family members got out of the car to see what had fallen on the car, over six to seven people attacked him, stopping the car by placing an iron rod on the road.

The men then forced the family out of the vehicle and took them to nearby fields along with the car. The accused brutally gang-raped the woman and her daughter, while the other family members were kept hostage.

The culprits then robbed the family of the ornaments and the cash before fleeing the spot.

Speaking after the verdict, Additional District Government Counsel Varun Kaushik said the court’s decision sent a strong message that such offenders must be kept away from society.

Kaushik added that forensic evidence played a key role in securing the conviction. “The most crucial evidence in this case was the DNA of one of the criminals found on the clothes of the gang rape victim’s mother,” Kaushik said.

Raped By Boyfriend, Blackmailed With Video, Then Gangraped By His Friends: Bengaluru Minor's 'Love Story' Becomes Nightmare

Bengaluru: Police in Magadi have arrested three men following the harrowing ordeal of a 17-year-old student. What began as a relationship under the guise of marriage reportedly spiralled into a nightmare of digital blackmail, repeated sexual assault, and the viral circulation of explicit content.
The suspects, identified as Vikas (25), Prashant (19), and Chetan (28), are currently in custody as authorities piece together a timeline of abuse that spanned several months.

The ordeal began approximately eight months ago when the victim, a college student, met 25-year-old Vikas. According to investigators, the two entered into a relationship, with Vikas allegedly promising to marry the girl.

Srinivas Gowda, Superintendent of Police for Bengaluru South, noted that the victim and the accused were known to each other, living in the same colony and belonging to the same community. This proximity allowed a sense of false security to develop.

The police report states that in September, Vikas lured the girl to his home in Magadi, where he sexually assaulted her. Unknown to the victim, Vikas secretly recorded the act on his mobile phone, a recording he would later use as a weapon of coercion.

From Coercion to Gang-Rape

The situation escalated in October when Vikas allegedly used the footage to blackmail the teenager. Threatening to leak the video on social media, he forced her to return to his residence. It was during this visit that the victim was allegedly gang-raped by Vikas and his two associates, Prashant and Chetan.
The group reportedly filmed the gang-rape and began circulating the footage. When the victim finally attempted to resist Vikas’s ongoing demands, he allegedly sent the video to her via Instagram as a final, direct threat of public shaming.

Police Intervention and Legal Action

The silence was broken on Wednesday when the victim, unable to bear the harassment any longer, confided in her family. They immediately approached the Magadi Police Station to lodge a formal complaint.
By Thursday, police had tracked down and arrested all three suspects. Officers also seized the men's mobile phones to conduct forensic examinations and determine how widely the videos had been shared across social media platforms.
"We have registered a case and arrested all three accused," confirmed SP Srinivas Gowda. "They misused intimate images to blackmail her before committing the alleged gang-rape.
The trio has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new criminal code that recently replaced the Indian Penal Code. The charges include:
  • Section 64: Punishment for rape.
  • Section 70: Gang-rape.
  • Section 71: Punishment for repeat offenders.
The Magadi police are continuing their investigation to ensure all digital evidence is recovered and to prevent further circulation of the distressing footage.

'Until Justice is Served...': Unnao Rape Survivor's Mother Says Delhi Protest Was Blocked - Watch

The Delhi High Court suspended the sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the case, and ordered his release on bail pending the disposal of his appeal against his conviction by a trial court in December 2019.

Family members of the 2017 Unnao rape survivor on Wednesday alleged they were stopped from protesting in central Delhi. The survivor’s mother said she was left alone on the roadside while Central Reserve Police Force personnel took her daughter away in a bus. The mother alleged that she had no security and that her daughter had been “taken away” by the force.
Yogita Bhayana, activist accompanying the family, alleged security personnel behaved harshly, first during the night and again on Wednesday morning, and did not allow the family to proceed with their protest.

Posting the video on X on Tuesday, she wrote, "Is this how a gangrape victim should be treated??? Is her only fault that she is demanding justice? What kind of justice is this???"

The family had planned to demonstrate near Mandi House against the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the jail sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar in the rape case. The protest was later called off.

Family members also alleged the CRPF and local police did not cooperate and prevented them from assembling. Authorities, however, said permission for the protest had not been granted.
Officials from the CRPF said that the protest was not allowed as they didn't have permission. The family later headed back to their residence in Ghitorni.

Reacting to the incident, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the treatment of the survivor and her family, saying it was inappropriate to restrict a rape survivor from peacefully raising her voice for justice. He said granting bail to a convicted rapist while treating survivors “like criminals” raised serious questions about the justice system.
The Unnao rape case survivor on Wednesday termed the Delhi High Court's decision to suspend the jail term of expelled BJP leader Sengar "kaal (death)" for her family and said that she would move the Supreme Court against it.
The HC on Tuesday suspended the sentence of Sengar, who is serving life imprisonment in the case, and ordered his release on bail pending the disposal of his appeal against his conviction by a trial court in December 2019.

In its order, the high court directed that Sengar shall not come within a 5-km radius of the victim's residence and shall not threaten the survivor or her mother. It also said violation of the conditions would automatically lead to cancellation of bail.
Sengar, however, will remain in jail since he is also serving 10 years' imprisonment in the custodial death case of the victim's father and has not been granted bail in that case

Unnao Rape Survivor Meets Rahul Gandhi Post Delhi Protest, Says Kuldeep Sengar Bail Order Has Created Fear

Rahul Gandhi met the 2017 Unnao rape survivor in Delhi after she claimed ill-treatment during her protest against the bail given to her attacker.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi met the 2017 Unnao rape survivor in Delhi on Wednesday after she alleged she was ill-treated while protesting against bail granted to her convicted attacker. The meeting took place at the residence of Sonia Gandhi, where the survivor arrived with her mother. The woman had earlier staged a protest in central Delhi against the Delhi High Court’s decision to suspend the jail sentence of expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
After the meeting, the survivor said she had sought Rahul Gandhi’s help to approach the Supreme Court. She also requested assistance in getting a senior lawyer to fight the case. Gandhi assured her of support, sources said.

The survivor’s family told Gandhi they feared for their safety and asked for help in relocating to another state. The survivor’s husband also requested support for better employment.

Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi assured the family that they would help in every possible way to ensure justice and security.

Speaking to reporters, the survivor said she had been fighting for justice and wanted to meet the PM, but no one from the government had reached out to her. “We will move the Supreme Court and have asked Rahulji for help,” she said.
"This is the first order of its kind where a sentence has been stopped and bail given. There is fear in the minds of all women. What kind of government is this?" she asked.

Meanwhile, reacting strongly, Rahul Gandhi questioned the treatment of the survivor during their protest in Delhi. In a post on X, he asked whether it was right to treat a rape survivor this way for raising her voice. He said granting bail to the convict was “disappointing and shameful.”
“Bail for rapists and treating survivors like criminals — what kind of justice is this?” Gandhi said. He added that India was not only facing economic problems but was also “turning into a dead society.”

He said in a democracy, people have the right to protest and speak up, and suppressing such voices was wrong. He said the survivor deserved respect, safety and justice, not fear.
Earlier in the day, the survivor had described the high court’s decision as “kaal,” or death, for her family.
The Delhi High Court had ordered that Sengar stay at least five kilometres away from the survivor and not threaten her or her mother. It warned that any violation would lead to cancellation of bail.
Sengar, however, will remain in jail as he is also serving a 10-year sentence in a separate case linked to the custodial death of the survivor’s father.
