Woman Gangraped At Dhaba 100 Meters From Metro; 4 Arrested

A 42-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped at a deserted dhaba in Haryana's Bahadurgarh, just 100 meters from a metro station on Delhi Metro's Green Line. Four of the five accused have been arrested.

A 42-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped by a gang of four men at a roadside dhaba, just 100 meters from a metro station in Bahadurgarh on Monday.
As per the woman's complaint, she had just arrived in town from Uttar Pradesh, along with her uncle. They had got off at the Pandit Shree Ram Sharma metro station on Delhi Metro's Green Line around 2 am on January 12.

Her cousin had come to pick them up and that is when they noticed the five men following them.

"By around 2.30 am, the men separated the woman from her uncle and cousin, intimidated them and took her to a deserted dhaba on Delhi-Rohtak Road, where they sexually assaulted her," a senior police officer was quoted as saying by a TOI report.

The woman had initially not reported the entire matter to the police, officials said, noting only that the accused had stolen some belongings.
However, when the police examined the CCTV footage from the dhaba area, the entire nature and extent of the crime was revealed.
"She then agreed to give a detailed statement, and her uncle subsequently filed a complaint," Jhajjar police commissioner Rajshree Singh said.
Further investigations revealed that shortly before the assault, the accused had purchased liquor from a nearby shop, leaving behind a digital trail. They paid Rs 100 in cash while transferring the remaining Rs 30 digitally through UPI, police said.
"Tracing the Paytm account allowed us to identify the suspects and reconstruct the sequence of events," a police officer involved in the probe said.
CCTV footage, digital payment records, call detail records, social media analysis, and inputs from local intelligence were then reviewed to narrow down the accused.
Within eight hours of the crime, four of the five men were arrested. All four are residents of Bahadurgarh, originally from Bihar, and living in rented accommodation in the Chhotu Ramnagar area.
The arrested men were produced before a Bahadurgarh court on Wednesday and remanded in police custody for two days.
"Efforts are on to identify and apprehend the fifth accused," an officer said.

A class 12 student was allegedly abducted and gang-raped by two men inside a moving car in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district, police said on Monday, adding that the suspects are on the run and efforts are being made to nab them.

The incident occurred on January 6 in the Napasar area, but a case was registered only on January 11 following a complaint by the survivor’s family, police said.

According to the complaint, the 19-year-old student had left for school on the morning of January 6. Two accused intercepted her and abducted in a car and drove away. They allegedly drove around for several hours, threatening and raping the girl taking turns inside the moving vehicle, Gangashahar circle officer Himanshu Sharma said, quoting from the complaint.

Later, when the car entered a neighbouring village, local residents grew suspicious and stopped the vehicle. After forcing the girl out of the car, the accused fled the spot, Sharma, who is investigating the matter, said.

Villagers informed the girl’s family, who reached the spot and took her home, the officer said.

One of the accused has been identified as Hansarj Saraswa while the identity of the other accused remains unknown. Both are absconding.

“The victim has also alleged the involvement of some other locals in the complaint and we are investigating the matter from every aspect,” Sharma said.

Based on the complaint, a first information report (FIR) has been registered under sections 70(1) (gang rape), 140(3) (abduction) and 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Napasar police station. “A medical examination of the victim was conducted on Sunday and the investigation will proceed further once the medical report is received. NRAI suspends national coach over sexual harassment

Earlier on January 8, the National Rifles Association of India (NRAI) suspended national coach Ankush Bharadwaj after being accused by a minor shooter. NRAI has confirmed the development, even as an FIR has also been filed against Bharadwaj in Faridabad.

NRAI Secretary Rajiv Bhatia told PTI that the coach has been issued a show-cause notice and won't be associated with any coaching activity unless he proves himself innocent. "NRAI has suspended him, and we will issue a show-cause notice. He has been suspended on moral grounds. Now, he has to prove himself innocent. Till the inquiry is not completed, he will not be associated with any coaching activity," he said.

Bhatia also stated that Bharadwaj had been recommended by NRAI to be part of the 37-man coaching staff for the Paris Olympics in 2024 and was part of the contingent as well. "It was on the recommendation of the NRAI that he was appointed by SAI as one of the coaches. It is a case of sexual harassment that happened in Surajkund," Bhatia added.
