Endemic rape culture of India

Why is there no outcry or national inquiry? As I said earlier in this thread, why is this an acceptable part of Indian society that government does not want to tackle meaningfully.

Rape’ of Bengal monitor lizard is act of perversion: forest dept

PUNE The initial probe by Kolhapur range forest department into the alleged rape of Bengal monitor lizard by four persons in Sahyadri Tiger Reserve (STR) in Maharashtra has revealed that it was an act of perversion.

Nanasaheb Ladkat, field director, conservator and chief investigator, STR, said, “It is a case of perversion and the same was put forth in the complaint. The accused are in judicial custody.” The incident took place at Gothane village in Ratnagiri district.

The forest department had taken the accused — Sandeep Tukaram Pawar, Mangesh Kamtekar, Akshay Kamtekar and Ramesh Ghag — under various sections of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 on March 31 for illegally entering Chandoli National Park, which is part of the reserve, with one of them carrying a gun.

The STR is spread over four districts of Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Ratnagiri. Being an eco-sensitive zone, as many as 290 trap cameras have been fixed in the area to monitor the wildlife. The wildlife patrol on duty found one of the cameras missing and another camera detected that two persons had removed the camera while a third accused had a gun with him.

Prominent Indian ex-MP gets life sentence for rape

A court in southern India has sentenced a prominent politician in the state of Karnataka to life in prison after being found guilty of raping one of his domestic staff.

Man who alleged hundreds were raped and buried in Indian temple town arrested

for the ppl who cant view the article, listed below:

Police in India have arrested a man who recently alleged that he had been coerced into burying hundred of bodies of women who were raped before being murdered.

His startling claims had thrown the tiny religious town of Dharmasthala in the southern state of Karnataka into turmoil.

Home to the centuries-old temple to Manjunatha Swamy - an incarnation of Shiva from the Hindu holy trinity - the town attracts thousands of pilgrims daily and is central to the fabric of local people's lives.

A political row in the state resulted in the government setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to verify the man's allegations.

A SIT official who did not want to be named told the BBC on Saturday morning that the man "has been arrested for perjury".

In early July, the middle-aged man had lodged a police complaint and appeared before a magistrate to record his statement. His identity has been withheld and, so far, he has appeared in public dressed fully in black, including a hood and a face mask.

In the police complaint which the BBC has seen, the man said he worked as a cleaner at the temple from 1995 to 2014 - and alleged that he had been forced to bury the bodies of hundreds of girls and young women who were brutally raped and murdered.

He narrated five alleged incidents where he gave specifics, and said there were many others. Some of the victims, the man alleged, were minors.

He said he had been in hiding since 2014 and had returned and spoken up to silence his nagging conscience.

The cleaner did not name anyone but blamed the "temple administration and its staff" - allegations the temple chief rejected as "false and baseless", external.

When he was taken to the magistrate, the man went on to produce a human skull from his bag as evidence. He said it belonged to a body he had buried and that he had retrieved it recently from the spot.

"The skull and skeletal remains he produced are not brought from any spot in which he claimed to have buried the bodies,'' the SIT official said.

Saturday's arrest comes as a major turn in a saga that has set off a firestorm within the state and outside.

The allegations received intense media coverage. After concerns were raised by the state's women's commission, the government launched a major criminal investigation and set up the SIT.

For the past several weeks, the team conducted excavations at locations in and around Dharmasthala to verify the man's claims. He had initially identified 13 spots - some of them in hard-to-reach areas covered by dense foliage and reportedly infested with venomous snakes.

Sources in the SIT confirmed to the BBC that human remains, including a skull and nearly 100 bone fragments, have been found at two of the spots and had been sent for forensic testing. It is not clear who they belong to.

The allegations also put the spotlight on the influential Heggade family - hereditary administrators of the temple.

In a statement to the BBC, chief administrator Veerendra Heggade, an MP in the Indian parliament's upper house who received the country's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan in 2015, welcomed the SIT inquiry.

The temple "really appreciates the government for appointing the SIT for investigating the alleged unnatural deaths claimed to have occurred in and around Dharmasthala", he wrote.

"We are already extending full support for the investigation. We have full faith on our judiciary and investigation agency and constitution of India," he added.

In an interview, external with Indian news agency PTI later, he called the former cleaner's claims "impossible" and said that "once and for all the truth should come out".

The allegations also resulted in a huge political row - the issue was discussed in the just-concluded session of the state assembly, with the opposition BJP members calling it a "smear campaign" against a Hindu religious site that has millions of devotees.

Home Minister G Parameshwara from the state's governing Congress party said the government had no intention of either shielding anyone or maligning anyone.

"Shouldn't the truth come out?" he asked. "If nothing is found, Dharmasthala's stature will only grow stronger. If something emerges, justice will be delivered," he added.

Rape case filed against Domino's Pizza franchise owner in India

Indian police have registered a case against leading businessman Shyam S Bhartia and three others for alleged criminal intimidation and rape of an aspiring Bollywood actress.

Bhartia is the founder and chairman of Jubilant Bhartia Group. Its subsidiary Jubilant Foodworks is the largest franchisee for Domino's Pizza outside of the US.

The woman, who can't be named under Indian law, accuses Bhartia of intoxicating and then "brutally" raping her in Singapore.

Bhartia has denied the allegations as "baseless, false and disparaging" in a filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange on Tuesday.
The company said Bhartia would fully cooperate with the investigation.

Jubiliant FoodWorks has not responded separately to the BBC's request for comment.

The woman said she first complained to the police on 11 November 2024. But her case was registered only on 22 February on orders of the Bombay High Court after it heard her petition.

The petition and the police complaint seen by the BBC alleged that the woman first met Bhartia in 2022 at a five star hotel in Mumbai through a co-accused, who allegedly promised to introduce her to people who could help further her career in the entertainment industry.

She alleges that Bhartia agreed to invest in her film project and asked her to come to Singapore, giving her his credit card details to book flight tickets.

In the petition, the woman also alleged that the co-accused made a video of the rape in Singapore in 2023.

She further alleged that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted by Bhartia thereafter that year.

In the company's filing with the stock exchange, Jubiliant FoodWorks said the court had made it clear it had not gone into the "merits of the complaint". It rubbished the allegations against Bhartia saying they were made with a "clear mala fide intent against him

Child grooming: India must take measures to protect children from online sexual abuse

Earlier this month, newspapers reported that a 13-year-old girl from Tirupur was lured and raped by a 21-year-old man in Chennai. What makes this incident even more shocking is that the rapist had befriended the victim first on Facebook and sexually assaulted her after having gained her trust online. This incident brings to light a growing concern surrounding child safety issues on the internet, namely, ‘online grooming’.

Child grooming incidents in India

Child grooming is generally understood as the practice of befriending and forming an emotional bond with a child by a person with the objective of sexual abuse. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word ‘grooming’ was first used in connection with a paedophile in a 1985 story by Chicago Tribune which stated, "These 'friendly molesters' become acquainted with their targeted victim, gaining their trust while secretly grooming the child as a sexual partner."

Child grooming incidents have increased with the advent of the internet, where such incidents are increasingly taking place online, through public chatrooms and social media. In India too, such instances have been reported in the past. Last year, two teenagers were arrested in Kolkata for kidnapping and rape of a 15-year-old girl whom they had befriended on Facebook. Another instance of online grooming was reported in December 2016 where a teenage girl was raped by a Facebook friend in Mumbai. More recently, in January 2017, a minor girl in Cuttack alleged rape by a boy whom she had met through a social networking site. With the proliferation of smartphone users in India, child grooming incidents can only be expected to rise in future.

How the internet abets child grooming

A unique feature of child grooming which takes place on the internet is the relative ease with which groomers are able to operate and gain a child’s trust online. The anonymity provided by the internet and the social media addiction (which is prevalent today among children before they even enter teenage) are factors which have contributed to the rise of child grooming online.

Another reason could be that it is difficult for parents to monitor the activities of their children on the internet. This makes it easier for child groomers to approach children online with the intent of befriending unsuspecting victims. Further, social media interaction has grown by leaps and bounds in the recent past making it the perfect modus operandi for child groomers.

Social media policies are also conducive to child participation in social networking. Facebook’s ‘Statement of Rights and Responsibilities’ permits children as young as 13 years of age to sign up for an account. The minimum age restriction is regularly flouted by children by lying about their age on Facebook. Given the tendency of social media users to share (and even over-share) their personal details such as residential addresses, location (information about their favourite hangouts) and family details, one can imagine how easy it is for a child groomer to lure kids online with the intent to sexually abuse them.

Indian laws dealing with child grooming

At present, the law in India to protect children from sexual offences is The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO). Section 11(vi) of POCSO provides that a person who entices a child for pornographic purposes or gratification, with sexual intent is said to commit sexual harassment upon a child. Further, section 11(iv) of POCSO states that a person is said to commit sexual harassment when such person "repeatedly or constantly follows or watches or contacts a child either directly or through electronic, digital or any other means" with sexual intent.

Section 67B(c) of Information Technology Act, 2008 also punishes the enticement of children in an online relationship with the purpose of publishing or transmitting of material depicting children in sexually explicit act in electronic form. These provisions, however, do not use the term ‘grooming’ explicitly. In 2016, a UNICEF report titled, ‘Child Online Protection in India’, highlighted the inefficacy of Indian laws to protect children from online abuse including grooming. The report notes that limitations in the law include lack of clear-cut and uniform terminology in legislations, risk of subjective interpretation of legal provisions and absence of any legal duty on intermediaries (such as internet service providers) to protect children from online threats.

Recommendations aimed at preventing online grooming

To make laws against grooming more robust in India, ‘grooming’ needs to be explicitly recognised as an offence in India. The legislature must formulate a definition of ‘grooming’ to avoid any ambiguity in the meaning of the term. In June 2016, the International Labour Organisation issued Terminology Guidelines for the Protection of Children from Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse to bring about consensus on terminology related to sexual exploitation and sexual abuse against children. The Guidelines define ‘grooming’ as "the process of establishing/building a relationship with a child either in person or through the use of the Internet or other digital technologies to facilitate either online or offline sexual contact with that person." India could adopt this definition to ensure that country’s understanding of ‘grooming’ is in line with international standards.

While there is a need to strengthen Indian laws to protect children from online grooming, legal provisions are more in the nature of ‘cure’ than ‘preventive’ measures. This necessitates that alternative measures aimed at preventing online grooming are also explored. One way of doing this could be through stringent social media policies against grooming- Section 4 clause 6 of Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities states, ‘You will not use Facebook if you are a convicted sex offender’. Facebook further outlines steps to report a convicted sex offender on Facebook, following which Facebook disables the account of the said person. Facebook’s ‘Friend Verifier App’ further aids in identifying whether a particular Facebook user is a registered sex offender. These measures are helpful to the extent that they prevent the use of Facebook by sex offenders including paedophiles and child groomers who have been convicted in the past.

However, these can be implemented in India only when the Indian government maintains a national register of convicted sex offenders in India which could be accessed by Facebook. (India has been deliberating the setting up of a national registry of sex offenders especially after the Jyoti Singh gang-rape case, however, a law to implement the same has not been enacted yet.) It is only through collaborative measures such as these between the Indian government and social networking sites that we can effectively tackle online grooming and protect children from online abuse.

India anger over 10-year-old rape victim's death after alleged treatment delay

The death of a 10-year-old rape victim in the eastern Indian state of Bihar after an alleged delay in medical treatment has sparked outrage in the country.

The girl died on Sunday morning at the state government-run Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) in the capital Patna.

Her uncle has alleged that the child's condition worsened as she was kept waiting in an ambulance for around four hours on Saturday before being admitted to the hospital.

PMCH authorities have denied this, saying that claims of a delay in admission are "baseless".
The girl's death has made national headlines, with opposition leaders accusing the Bihar government - a coalition led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal United (JD-U) - of gross mismanagement. The government has denied any negligence.

The girl is from the Dalit community, which is at the bottom of the Hindu caste hierarchy. Dalits face widespread mistreatment in India despite laws in place to protect them.

Following the outrage, the National Human Rights Commission and National Commission for Women have criticised the incident and asked for the hospital's role to be investigated.

Rape victims cannot be named under Indian law.

The girl was raped on 26 May, allegedly by a man who lived near her aunt's house in Muzaffarpur. Police have arrested the man and are investigating the crime.

The girl went missing while she was playing outside her house. Her family members later found her lying injured near a road. Police officials have told reporters that she had several knife wounds.

She was first taken to a local hospital and then to the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), around 85km (53 miles) from Patna.

Kumari Vibha, the superintendent of SKMCH, told BBC Hindi that the child had several injuries, including wounds on her chest and neck, but that her condition had stabilised. She was referred to PMCH as she needed reconstruction surgery on her windpipe, Ms Vibha said.

But at PMCH, the child's uncle said, they faced a delay in admission while the child waited in the ambulance.

"They [the hospital staff] made us run around for four hours from one hospital department to another one," he alleged. She was later admitted to the gynaecology department, he said.

The hospital has denied the allegations. IS Thakur, a top hospital official, said that the child's family had initially admitted her to the paediatrics department but that she was sent to the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department because of her injuries.

"Since we do not have an ICU in ENT, the child was shifted to the ICU of the gynaecology department," he said, adding that the child was brought in an Advance Life Support ambulance, which is equipped to offer critical care.

"The allegations of a delay in getting a hospital bed are baseless," Mr Thakur said.

The child's plight began making news after a viral video showed members of the opposition Congress party arguing with hospital staff, demanding that she be admitted.

Opposition parties in the state have held several protests since the death.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the girl's death was "extremely shameful" and demanded that strict action be taken against negligent officers.

"The rape victim waited for hours outside PMCH to be admitted... what is the use of the big buildings being built in the name of hospitals when there is chaos, corruption, misbehaviour, lack of resources and insensitivity all around?" the state's main opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal said on X.

Leaders of the BJP and JD(U) have denied any negligence. Anamika Singh Patel, a BJP spokesperson, called the girl's death "unfortunate".

"But I myself run a hospital and I know that getting a bed in a hospital is a process which takes time. People in our government are working responsibly," she said.

The incident has also brought attention to the condition of Bihar's medical infrastructure, months before the state assembly election is due to be held.

Last month, a patient at another government hospital in Patna said, external that a rat bit his toe while he was asleep. Hospital authorities had launched an investigation into the incident.

On Tuesday, in a scathing editorial titled Bihar's Shame, the Times of India newspaper highlighted the sorry state of hospitals in the state. It referenced a recent report, external that found that only half of all ventilators in government hospitals were functional and that capital Patna had just one government doctor for 11,541 people. That ratio is much worse in rural areas.

Thrissur (Kerala):
A 75-year-old woman was murdered, allegedly by her daughter and her partner, over a gold chain in Kerala's Thrissur. Incidentally, it was the missing chain that led the cops to the daughter.

Neighbours found the body of the elderly woman, Thankamani, in a plot behind her home in Mundoor early on Sunday. She had injury marks on her face, and the police initially suspected that she had died due to a fall. But the post-mortem confirmed it as a case of homicide.

As the cops started probing the matter, neighbours said Thankamani always wore a gold chain that had been missing. The cops then grilled her daughter, Sandhya (45). After separating from her husband, Sandhya had been living with her mother, Thankamani. The investigation revealed that she was in a relationship with Nithin, a 29-year-old who lived nearby.

During questioning, Sandhya revealed that she wanted to help Nithin financially and asked her mother for her gold chain. Thankamani refused, and this started an argument that turned into a fight. During a scuffle, Sandhya allegedly grabbed her mother's throat and pushed her. Thankamani hit her head on the ground as she fell. She was dead.

Sandhya and Nitin, reports said, tried to portray her death as accidental. After the body was found, they feigned ignorance, hoping that the cops would assume Thankamani died due to a fall. But the post-mortem raised suspicions and the missing chain gave the cops a breakthrough. During questioning, Sandhya and Nithin cracked. The two have been taken into custody and further probe is on

The 23-year-old accused, identified as Salman, remains on the run even four days after the incident on the evening of November 21.

In a strong expression of displeasure over the delay in arresting the accused in the rape of a six-year-old girl in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav late on Tuesday night ordered the immediate removal of the Raisen Superintendent of Police and the Misrod police station in-charge.

The Chief Minister's action came after an emergency meeting convened at 8:15 pm at the Police Headquarters (PHQ) with top state officials, including the Director General of Police (DGP), Additional Director General (ADG) Intelligence, and the Bhopal Police Commissioner.

Chief Minister Yadav reportedly expressed severe displeasure not only with the police's inability to arrest the accused who has now remained at large for four days but also with their "lax response" in handling the massive public protests and road blockades that have gripped the region.

The 23-year-old accused, identified as Salman, remains on the run even four days after the incident on the evening of November 21. He allegedly lured the six-year-old girl, who was playing outside her home, to a nearby forest on the pretext of giving her chocolate and fled after raping her.

The 23-year-old accused, identified as Salman, remains on the run even four days after the incident on the evening of November 21. He allegedly lured the six-year-old girl, who was playing outside her home, to a nearby forest on the pretext of giving her chocolate and fled after raping her.

The survivor was found in a blood-soaked condition in the forest. She is currently admitted to AIIMS Bhopal, and doctors report that her condition is improving. However, the initial response was marred by negligence at the local hospital when no ambulance was available for over an hour, forcing the family to use a private vehicle to take the critical child to Bhopal. This negligence fueled initial public anger.

The community outrage has solidified into a three-day protest outside the Gauharganj police station, with villagers, including women and girls, staging a continuous sit-in despite the biting cold. This came after a violent protest and a massive highway blockade. Police initially used mild force (lathi-charge) to clear the highway, but protesters quickly returned, prompting the deployment of personnel from five police stations.

Authorities have now increased the reward for information leading to the accused's arrest to Rs 30,000. Twenty police teams and around 300 personnel have been deployed across the region as part of the intensified search operation.

He was taken to Bhopal's Jai Prakash Hospital for first aid," SP Ashutosh Gupta told news agency ANI.

Speaking to ANI, Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Obedullaganj, Sheela Surana, said that further action will be taken based on his treatment and doctors' advice.

SDOP Surana said, "He was taken into police custody and was being taken to Gouharganj. During this time, our vehicle suddenly got punctured. He snatched our sub-inspector's gun, started running, and fired at them. Then the police fired at him, and he was injured. We will take further action based on the doctors' advice. Marital Rape Not Viewed With Seriousness It Deserves In India: Shashi Tharoor

Shashi Tharoor said the exception is a "travesty," of justice and it offers impunity even in cases where couples are separated but not yet divorced.

Kolkata:
Diplomat-turned-senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Thursday said he was shocked that India remains one of the few democracies where marital rape is not viewed with the seriousness it deserves, despite having stringent anti-rape laws.

Speaking at a programme organised by the Prabha Khaitan Foundation in association with the FICCI Ladies Organisation, Tharoor said, "I am shocked to find that India is one of the few democracies in the world where the case of a husband raping his wife without her consent is not treated with the seriousness as it should have been." He pointed out that while India has strong anti-rape law, there are exceptions for husbands which is nothing but marital rape violating a woman without her consent.

"Why should they (husbands) be exempted?" he said.

If one doesn't respect his life partner and rapes her against her wishes citing conjugal relationship that is violation of law and violence against women, he added.

He said the current provision rests on "an outdated assumption that marriage is a sacred sacrament and that whatever happens within it cannot be classified otherwise." "We think a proper law against domestic rape is massively necessary in the country. It is however sad that even women ministers holding particular portfolios did not look into this aspect," to prevent such atrocities, he said.

"We think a proper law against domestic rape is massively necessary in the country. It is however sad that even women ministers holding particular portfolios did not look into this aspect," to prevent such atrocities, he said.

Tharoor said the exception is a "travesty," of justice and it offers impunity even in cases where couples are separated but not yet divorced.

"A lot of marital rape occurs among couples who are separated but not legally divorced. You often see situations where, for example, talaq has been pronounced, the husband is living separately, and yet he returns whenever he wishes and forces himself on his wife and nothing can be done because the law still considers them husband and wife," he said.

Tharoor was replying to a question by a female college student during a 'tea-a-tea' with him and his sisters, Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan and Smita Tharoor, at the GD Birla Sabhagar here.

Observing that there is an implicit assumption that "marital rape" can be allowed within a conjugal marriage, he reiterated, "It is not part of conjugal love, it is violence." "We need to stand up for rights of women, which in many ways are being overlooked. We should speak out," Tharoor said to thunderous applause of the audience.

Asked about the alleged hostility towards Indians and other immigrants in the US and Europe, he agreed that the "resentment has become so much more visible, so much overtly hostile." "There is hostility to migrants, a xenophobia which is not just in the West but worldwide. People feel their dreams are being thwarted by people not like them. That hostility is increasing and is also visible in our country," he said.

"For young people going to US for scholarship my advice will be gain knowledge and then come back. Your city needs you. Your country needs you," he said.

Thanking his sisters and family for the "tremendous, emotional support to negotiate through the rough tumble of political life," Tharoor said, "The most important thing to be true to oneself. To watch your values your capabilities" in the chosen domain.

"I always said there is no point in being a cookie cutter politician. I believe and stand by my politics, of my ideas, of my values. Even if my values are not palatable, I never flinch. I never said anything I did not believe in," he said.

To a question about the perception that he communicates in exotic, uncommon English words, Tharoor said, "I like to think I am a communicator with people and there is no point in communicating if they don't understand you." Asked if he exercises diplomatic restraint at home, he quipped, "I won't say I am diplomatc at home." "There is no possibility of being under watch (when one is at home) whether you are following party line" with every utterance and action when you are in the company of your near ones and not in public," he explained.

Lucknow woman kills live-in partner after he ‘eyed’, tried to molest, her 17-year-old daughter

A 46-year-old woman in Lucknow allegedly murdered her 35-year-old engineer partner with the help of her two daughters after he showed "inappropriate intentions" with one of them

A 46-year-old woman allegedly slit the throat of her 35-year-old live-in partner, who was an engineer, in Lucknow’s Green City area.

According to police, Ratna and her two daughters had murdered Surya Pratap after a heated argument over his “inappropriate intentions” toward her elder daughter.

The daughters are aged 17 and 14.

Police said that the woman remained in the house for nearly 10 hours after the murder before calling the police and confessing.

The two minors were also in the house.

The police team found the man lying in a pool of blood after they rushed to the house.

During interrogation, the woman said that her partner was “eyeing” her elder daughter for several days and that he even tried to molest her. His behaviour led to frequent arguments between them.

On Sunday, the woman slit the man’s throat using a kitchen knife with the help of her daughters.

The forensic team recovered the weapon from the crime scene.

The deceased man, who was from Deoria, worked as an engineer in a private firm. In 2012, he had tutored the woman’s daughters. After the woman’s husband died in 2014, the two began a relationship despite the opposition from both families.

An FIR was filed under charges of murder against the woman and the teens, based on a complaint by the engineer’s father, Narendra Singh. The father also said that the woman and his daughter were "financially exploiting" his son and misleading him.

DCP East Shashank Singh said that the woman was arrested and booked for murder, and her minor daughter was detained.

Police are probing the case from multiple angles. There are also speculations that the couple fought over property and money based on the father's allegations. Local residents however believe that the man had behaved inappropriately with Ratna's daughters and even engaged in physical assault according to the Daily Jagran. Police are yet to confirm the motivation for the killing.

A total of 261 witnesses were examined during the trial, including several from the film industry. Many actor-witnesses turned hostile. The investigation officer alone was examined for 109 days. The court admitted 834 documents and two defence witnesses.

Two key witnesses - former MLA PT Thomas and director Balachandra Kumar- died during the trial stage.

The prosecution claimed that Dileep had animosity with the victim after she allegedly informed Manju Warrier, the actor’s first wife, about his affairs with another acrtor. It said Dileep hatched a conspiracy to harm the actress after they had an intense quarrel during the rehearsal of a stage event in 2016.

A POCSO case has been registered at the Murgod police station after the girl filed a complaint against the accused.
The police on Tuesday arrested the two accused, identified as Manikanth Dinnimani and Iranna Sankammanavar, and produced them before the court

The girl alleged that Manikantha sexually assaulted her while Iranna assisted him.

He added, "The minor girl gave her statement in the presence of a female officer, and we have arrested the two accused, Manikantha and Iranna, and initiated legal procedures. They are already under arrest."
The SP further said that they need to investigate why the complaint was filed late. "Usually, in such incidents, children may be in shock and may not open up immediately, or some parents may hesitate to come forward due to concerns about their dignity."
"These are the patterns we have observed. We need to investigate the reason for the delay in filing the complaint and whether the incident occurred as stated. But as of now, it appears to have happened," he continued.

Girl Kidnapped, Raped By 5 On Her Way To College In Odisha

The survivor, in her complaint, said that she was kidnapped in a car near Khurda New Bus Stand on November 18, made unconscious with a handkerchief soaked in chemicals, and then gang-raped.

Odisha:
A girl was allegedly kidnapped and later gang-raped by her friend and his four associates while she was on her way to college in Odisha, officials said.

The survivor, in her complaint, said that she was kidnapped in a car near Khurda New Bus Stand on November 18, made unconscious with a handkerchief soaked in chemicals, and then gang-raped.

The accused later abandoned her at Khurda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) two days after the rape, from where she was shifted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on November 21 as her condition worsened.

According to police sources, the security guard of DHH is being questioned as the girl had reportedly contacted him over the phone on the day of the alleged incident.

One of the accused, the survivor's friend, is suspected of having orchestrated the entire crime and is being interrogated by cops. She had reportedly come in contact with him through social media.

Police are yet to trace the car in which the survivor was allegedly kidnapped, officials said.

Police say they have detained some people linked to the case and are interrogating them.

Former chief minister Naveen Patnaik, in a post on X, expressed outrage over recent incidents related to women's safety, stating that such incidents expose the government's complete failure in ensuring women's protection.

The incident of abduction and gang rape of a minor girl in Khurda Baghmari is very touching and heartbreaking.Similarly, incidents like the brutal beating of a young woman on the village street by SHG women in Aranji, Bhadrak for installment money after her mother's death are completely unacceptable in a civilized society. During the Biju Janata Dal government, mothers were climbing the ladder of success and making a name for themselves through Mission Shakti. But under the BJP government, mothers have become the most vulnerable, development has stalled. The increasing incidents of atrocities and mistreatment against women in Odisha are disturbing everyone. The government should wake up and take strictest action against the culprits immediately.

He described the Bhadrak case, where a young woman was publicly beaten in the village by SHG members after her mother's death left her unable to pay dues, as unacceptable in a civilised society.

Delhi Horror: 'Psycho Killer' Rapes Woman, Slashes Face, Smashes Head With Stone; Arrested

A 23-year-old man, Salman alias Bona, has been arrested for the brutal rape and murder of a mentally challenged woman in north Delhi. The victim, 52-year-old ragpicker Seejan, was found deceased with severe injuries.

A 23-year-old man accused of raping and brutally killing a mentally challenged woman earlier this month in north Delhi has been arrested after a multi-state manhunt, police said Friday.
The suspect, identified as Salman alias Bona, was tracked down in Gujarat using CCTV footage and a pair of slippers he allegedly left at the crime scene, officers said. Police described him as a "psycho killer" and said he has a history of serious criminal offences.

The body of the 52-year-old woman, identified as Seejan, a ragpicker from Metro Vihar in Holambi Kalan, was recovered on November 16 from shrubs behind the Adarsh Nagar Railway Station. Police said she was found semi-naked with deep cuts on her face and head, apparently inflicted with a sharp weapon.

Police recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attack, along with two pairs of slippers, one belonging to the victim and another believed to belong to the suspect.

CCTV footage from a nearby public toilet showed the woman entering moments before a man in a pink shirt, grey pants and white-and-black slippers followed her inside. The slippers matched the ones found at the scene, police said.
The suspect was later seen in the footage fleeing barefoot in the direction of Sarai Peepal Thala.
Teams traced the trail to jhuggis in Badhola village, where the suspect was identified as Salman, though he had already fled. Police searched locations in Ghaziabad, Mukundpur and Kasganj in Uttar Pradesh, but his mobile phone had been switched off since the day before the killing.

Officers received a tip-off on the night of November 17–18 that he had escaped to Vedach in Gujarat. He was arrested there and, during interrogation, confessed to the crime, police said.
According to the investigators, Salman followed the woman, struck her on the head with a stone, raped her and then slashed her with a sharp-edged weapon before fleeing.
Police said he is a repeat offender and previously involved in cases of robbery, kidnapping and the rape of a minor. Investigators are still trying to determine his motive.

A 67-year-old woman has made shocking claims against her husband, breaking the silence after 42 years of marriage. A Bengaluru woman, who is a government professor, alleged that she has been facing domestic violence and sexual harassment from her 70-year-old husband throughout her marriage, according to a TOI report.
The woman alleged that she has been facing mental, physical, financial and sexual abuse for years, and lodged a complaint with Govindarajnagar police on Saturday last week.

This action comes after recently, when her husband sent a legal notice to the woman and her two sons, asking them to vacate the matrimonial home within eight days, citing that the property is registered solely under his name.

The 67-year-old woman gave her life to developing young minds and then retired as a principal after serving in multiple colleges across Karnataka. She alleged that her husband resented her professional success, belittled her PhD and promotions, and even systematically coerced her into transferring her salary, pension, gratuity, and properties into his name.

Here's what the woman alleged

Her husband lost his job in 1993 and lived on her earnings, and continued the abuse, according to the report. She further alleged that last month, her husband forcibly dragged her into a room, sexually assaulted her while cleaning the house. When she refused and tried to escape, her husband allegedly kicked, choked, verbally abused, and threatened her with death.
She further alleged that her husband even threatened to kill their two sons, TOI reported. She claimed that the assault was captured on CCTV cameras installed by their children.
Following her report, a case has now been registered against her husband under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including cruelty by husband, assault to outrage modesty, criminal intimidation, and hurting her.

The crime occurred after the victim was dragged into a sugarcane field. The incident came to light late because the victim's family was reportedly issued life threats.

Belagavi, Karnataka:

The arrested individuals are Manikantha Dinnimani and Iranna Sankammanavar. Police stated that one of the accused assaulted the girl while the other supported him by standing guard.

The incident was reported within the limits of the Muragoda police station. According to the police, the victim, a seventh-grade student, was allegedly abducted and raped while she was returning from a flour mill.

The crime occurred after the victim was dragged into a sugarcane field. The incident came to light late because the victim's family was reportedly issued life threats.

The accused, Manikantha Dinnimani and Iranna Sankammanavar, committed the crime against the minor girl while she was returning home from the flour mill. The crime was committed at a spot located just 300 meters away from her house. Following a complaint filed on Monday (December 1), the Murgod Police registered a case and arrested the accused.

Reacting to the incident, Belagavi SP Bhimashankar Guled stated, "The victim, in her complaint, stated that one of the accused committed the crime and another supported him by standing guard."

"As soon as the complaint was lodged, the police officers took the accused into custody. We have deputed a woman police officer to look into the case. The accused persons, Manikantha and Iranna, would be produced before the court soon," SP Guled stated.

Regarding the delay in reporting, the SP said, "We will investigate to ascertain why the complaint was lodged late. In our experience, victims will be in shock. Initially, they won't open up; even if they do open up, they will be scared and fear society."

He emphasised that the delay in reporting to the police is irrelevant. "The crime has taken place, preliminary investigations have indicated it, and the accused have been arrested," he said.

"We will give protection to the victim if necessary. The police have not tried to compromise the case. Especially in POSCO cases, the police are careful. This is not a case to be compromised, and the policemen won't indulge in such activity," he stated while answering a question.

Strongly condemn it.

Below is to not do one up on BD, A rape is a horrible thing no matter where it happens irrespective of the country. Since you keep referring to rape cases so much about India, I wonder if you have any tears left for Bangladeshi ladies who seem to be bearing even bigger brunt of rapists in BD. I hope you respond to this and not chicken out like usual. :runaway:
